Of all the private mail services Downtown Mail & Shipping is by far the best mail service that I have spent money on! This may have been over 10 years ago, but I can honestly say no other mail service has come close to their professionalism, service and politeness! Even when they are busy, they are very Polite when I had called in to see if I have any mail or packages waiting for me. If they are too busy to check for me. They politely and cheerfully ask me if they can call me back; which is no problem and above all they keep their promise to their customers and I get a call back! Most of the mail services here in Chico, had a young woman at the counter and have no phone skills. I have been told "I do not know we are real busy at the counter m" then hang up! That is how a customer is treated , and I am always polite and do not ask for unreasonable or nonsense requests of service! I would say that Downtown Mail service is the best and many other mail service should follow their business model if they want their business to be a success! read more

These guys are fantastic. All UPS/FedEx/USPS stores are NOT created equally, and this store really takes customer service to a whole new level. You can (and I have) show up with a cell phone that needs to get to New York and a confused look on your face, or a bag of frozen treats and shrugged shoulders and just say "Hey, so I need to sent this... can you help me?" They will help advise you on the best, and most cost-effective, way to ship something, help you package it, and not make you feel like the incompetent freak show you are. Shipping prices are very competitive, and it ends up being cheaper to use this place, because they don't try to up-sell you. Really great business. read more

Downtown mail & shipping is a great little store located right across the street from the Capitol building. I stopped by this place to check out the mailbox service and it seems like they have plenty of mailboxes available. They offer a variety of services including fedex, ups and United States Postal Service as the shipping base. They also have a notary public on staff which is always appreciated especially in that area. I asked the store manager to help me to receive my documents and get it apostilled at the office of the Secretary of State. And he's done just that perfectly without any problems whatsoever. Fast and reliable service from these guys. And we always appreciate that. The store looks very organized and clean as a whistle. I love a good small business with responsive employees. I had to overnight a package a few months and was in a huge rush to get it out. It was about 4:50 and so I thought I would make it just in time. Much to my surprise, the employee working at the store decided to close early that day. I could still see him inside putting things away and he ignored me when I politely knocked on the glass since it was clearly not 5pm yet. Fortunately FedEx is around the corner so I was able to go there. Needless to say I will never come here again. I used to go to here all the time but to close early when people are counting on you is completely unacceptable. read more

Great & fast notary service. I come from San Francisco just because need certified every single document which I need for oversea, however I forget one. By the time I drive to this area, ups store open at 8:30 but they told me the person not there until 10. Wait 1and half hours? No, called a person" phone call notary" charge $50 and not willing to stamp on my original document. Finally I got downtown mailing, feed 24mins meter, by the time I'm finishing this review I still have 10 mins left. The dudes who work in here, particularly Andy are like personal mail concierges. I've only been getting mail here a couple of months, but I have 24 hour access and within my 2nd week I had accidentally walked out on a Saturday night; but forgot that I left my keys in my mailbox. Of course I didn't realize this until I walked out and was locked out. On top of that I left all my keys on that key chain so now I'm locked out of my apt and car. And to make matters worse it was a 3 day weekend and I wouldn't be able to get my keys back till tuesday morning at best. Luckily I had a 2nd option and was able to get my spare keys for car and my apt; but I had left a note on the front door for any other box renters with 24 hour access to call me if they were able to get in and notice my keys. So I get a call Sunday morning and it's Andy, (my personal mailbox concierge) and he came to work and found my keys. He didn't charge me a fee and even rode his bike all the way to my block to drop off the keys. I'll never forget this. I don't even pay $20/mo for my box and I feel like I'm stealing. I'm pretty lazy about mailing packages because it's such a pain going to the post office. Downtown Mailing & Shipping is great because it's convenient and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I was mailing a birthday gift internationally and was unsure how to package it, what to mail it in, how much it was going to cost, etc. The staff was so helpful. The clerk told me I could mail the birthday gift (a shirt) in a padded bubble envelope which would be the cheapest and it would still arrive in about a week. He took the time to answer my questions and concerns and didn't make me feel rushed or stupid. I also should mention the wonderful card selection they have. Really nice with cards for every occasion. I buy a card at least once a month for a work birthday or a thank you for something. read more

Prices are a bit more expensive than a USPS office. Shipped a package that weighed 1.3 pounds to NY and it costs roughly $16 and I had to pay extra for tracking. At the USPS it would've been around $14 with tracking included. I was in the area and couldn't make it to USPS. There is one near this place but they closed on Saturdays. Either both are expensive. Their staff is always friendly and courteous, and very knowledge about the various shipping options available to me. They process USPS, FedEx, and UPS shipments. Stamps, envelopes, mailers, bubble, wrap, etc. Downtown Mail & Shipping has it all! They also offer mailbox services which I have never used, so I can not comment on that particular aspect of their business. My only wish is that they opened up at 8am instead of 9am. Opened a mailbox with Downtown Mail, temporarily transferring my family mail to this location. My daughter, whose mail I also receive, is studying abroad in Japan. I was told, however, she would have to be present to show her ID before they would accept mail in her name. Ludicrous! Humm... should she fly home from Japan to do this, I wondered? Not. The reason I opened the box there was to keep my mail within the same zip code. I will be staying with a friend for a few months, before moving back to the area. Having it remain the same, alleviates the need to change my credit card address zip. N E way, I've had to open a separate mailbox to receive her mail at another location who understands family mail, means ALL family mail. I wasn't going to post a review at all. I chalked it up to another example of working with an over-achiever, but today they've pushed me to it... I drove during my lunch hour from Davis to Sac to pick up a package I'd been waiting for. Drive all the way (you know there is NEVER a good time to drive Davis/Sac) only to find it hadn't arrived. Cost me an additonal hour vacation time, because I was so late getting back to work. Contacted Amazon and learned the package was delivered nearly 2 weeks ago and signed by "Elliot"!!! Called DM and was told it had been delivered. Really?? Where was the notice???! Admittedly, I do have bias against this place because they wouldn't accept my daughter's forwarded mail, but having to use my personal work hours to pick up package which wasn't readily available to me just adds salt to the wound. read more

This is a great little business. There aren't a lot of options if you want to ship something in the downtown/capital area of sac. I get home too late to get to the post office so I found this place on yelp and decided to walk over and try it on a break. I had a framed piece of Art I wanted to send--so fragile and kinda large but not really heavy--and I hadn't done anything to try to prepare it for shipping myself. I got helped literally the second I walked in the door. The gentleman who helped me was extremely pleasant, friendly, and efficient. He packed the item in a box with packing materials to keep It safe and got it all ready to go with tracking. It was super quick and painless and the price was very reasonable. I will definitely go back next time I need to ship something. I definitely recommend--small, family-owned business offering excellent customer service and fair prices, can't beat it! read more

I went there today for the very first time to get some stamps. I have been going to Raleys for years to get my stamps until today I was out of stamps and wanted to check this place out. They charged me extra $$ to get a book of stamps to my surprise. They called it a "convenient" fees, but I called it a "stingy" fee. No thanks to Downtown Mail and shipping. I would rather go back to Raleys to get my stamps. I wish they would post a sign saying there is an extra charge to get a book of stamps. But there isn't any sign at their store about that. I am a little upset with this place. I think they are dishonest! I don't like surprises like this. Why can't they be upfront with their loyal customers??? read more

Friday 6/21/19 I dropped off two separate packages of defective Apple AirPods to return to Apple from Sac to Elk Grove on a 2 day Fed Ex ship. Neither package ever made it to the FedEx delivery driver that picked up that day. They were never scanned in and Fed Ex says they never left that store. Apple sends them in two separate packages for a reason. So I can understand if one package was "lost" but both never left this store. Something is not right. read more

This place is great! I try and stay away from big corporate chains since you never have interaction with the owner. I really liked that this place is direct; owner to customer. Pretty cool! I used this location as an address for my company. They did an awesome job sorting my mail, shipping packages, and helped with faxes. I loved that it wasn't a "P.O. Box" and the address was directly across from California's capital building. The owners were professional, courteous, and extremely helpful. No I'm not an employee, just a happy customer. read more

I've used their mailbox service for several years...if you live a mobile lifestyle, it's great to have one constant mailing address. If I can't make it back to Sacramento to pick up the box, they will forward it along to my current address for a reasonable fee. Their staff is friendly, and competent.
