Yes, the doctors are young and they will ask you if an intern can interview and participate in your check up (you can decline) but I find their youth to be refreshing and their enthusiasm to take care of you a HUGE plus. And they have great senior doctors to consult. They have seen me through a mysterious knee swelling and total hip replacement, both sides. My current doctor is Dr. Christine Prabhu, a GREAT doctor. And many of my friends now see past doctors I have had. As my best friend said "the doctor you recommended to me is the ONLY doctor to ever call me to follow up and see how I was doing."

I now see Dr. Rita Henriques…read more At first, I thought it would be strange going to a sky scrapper for a doctor's appointment, but it was my only option at the time because I couldn't find another doctor taking new patients. I was out to ease during my first visit. It's rare to find street parking, as there are only a couple of meters near the intersection of Broad and High, so I end up parking under the state house. It usually costs me $5 to park. I actually enjoy the experience, because I think it's neat to walk under high street and you stay out of the weather. The lobby is clean and comfortable. There are always ample magazines available and the TV is set to daytime television. There is a commentary coffee station as well. I've found all staff to be friendly and outgoing. The doctors take the time to really listen to me, and I feel they have helped me immensely over the years. They are knowledgeable and intuitive. I feel like they take a holistic approach at health, and don't just try to push you out of the door with a script. I remember it used to be easier to get in, or maybe it was just this time, because it took me a month to get in this time to see my doctor at the location I wanted. Might just be the season though. No worries, I know if I needed to get in earlier there were other options (visiting the other location where she splits her time, or scheduling with another doctor).

One of the nurses rolled her eyes when asked to give out hot towels... Lastly when I was asked to be discharged one of the nurses said they were understaffed when there were staff everywhere. The lobby barely had any people. They finally gave me my chest scan when I begged 5 times to leave. To my surprise every result came back normal! Why would I stay in the hospital for 6 hours if my results came back normal? This sort of treatment is lazy and as a hard working black woman I don't appreciate this type of behavior!

I missed the call from my awesomely concerned family doctor who had already reviewed my ER records despite the fact that it was a holiday and she was supposed to be relaxing. She wanted to have me come in for a follow-up exam. Since I didn't recognize the number and my voicemail box was jammed full, I didn't know I was supposed to go in. But on Thanksgiving, in the evening, when I relapsed into that toxic pain and shaking, my family called Dr. Rentel. She was there, and she had advice. She got me through the night and saw me first thing Monday. This is the most compassionate doctor. I love her to pieces. She has her patients' best interest in mind. She really cares about your health. And she's funny and easy to talk to. I have high praise for Dr. Rentel. If you're looking for a new family doctor, definitely try to get in with her. It will be tough. Since she's so amazing, she's always booked full. But if you happen to call the office when they're taking new patients, you musn't undervalue the opportunity. Jump on it! Dr. Rentel is the best.

They sent me away with anxiety meds. Needless to say, I didn't take them and went to see Dr. Rentel the following Monday. By chance, I was assigned to her when I was a student at OSU in the student health department. She asked me if I had allergies, to which I replied NO. She took a good look at me and said, "Yes you do." She gave me oral steroids and within 24 hours my breathing issues were totally resolved. Turns out, I have a severe grass pollen allergy that developed as an adult and procudes asthma. I'm now taking allergy shots to help build a tolerance to my allergies and symptoms. It was very hurtful. When I reached out via message to ask what just happened and that I am pulled over now and ready, she responded by terminating me as a patient via letter. Her attitude throughout was condescending, rude, and disrespectful. This is not how healthcare professionals should treat patients, and I would not recommend her to anyone seeking any shred of empathy or care from a provider.

However, this is in no way a reflection on the people and the work they do. Dr. May is well known in the area as well as respected.
