I really like this place not sure of the young guys name at the counter he's pretty cool and helpful he has a good vibe and knows his stuff around the store. I gave a 5 star because it's a cool place to go, The only concern I have is the stickers on the front covers are really annoying and they tend to damage them. Great little record store in downtown Loveland. 95% of the music offered is vinyl and the other being a small wall of used cds. They have tons of both new and used records. They do participate in Record Store Day (RSD) and even a month after date, had many still to choose from. Diverse selections including, metal, rap, indie, electronica, and all your regular stuff. I'm a vinyl hound. Always looking for those diamonds in the rough. This isn't a very big store but I have shopped larger stores that didn't have the quality Downtown Sound had in their inventory. Usually when I purchase a number of Lp's. I'll come away with at least one that pops and snaps to the point I'll end up trashing it. Purchased 6 albums and all sound great! Just know, I'm a picky SOB. It's a family ran business and the lady working was very nice. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll make time to check the inventory. read more

Wow. Just went out of our way while we were traveling through Loveland on our way to a gig to do what we love to do: shop for vintage gear. The woman who was working there, (the guy with the good taste and sense's wife) was nothing but condescending to us at every turn. If she could have only seen the thousands of dollars of our gear (just a small traveling collection for tonight's FoCoMx gig ) we had with us, maybe she would have been nicer and taken us more seriously ... Her comment when Eben asked if he could try out a mid 60s Gretsch amp with any guitar she wanted to get down for him (as she wouldn't let him touch anything), was a slap in our faces: she,looking down her nose, said, 'do YOU have $750 to buy this amp?' And Eben said, enthusiastically 'yeah' 'well then ok I guess you can'... He asked for a guitar to play and just asked for anyone, it didn't matter... She just stood there...He finally just said hand me the pink strat. The amp sounded great. Looked great. I thumbed through some used vinyl and found five that I was going to buy... I had also picked up a new vinyl cleaning kit. I didn't need it but I like to support places like this. So in the awkward silence, with the woman not making us feel very welcome, Eben carefully put the guitar back, turned the amp off and said 'thanks. I'm not gonna buy it' her response was a hasty, 'I figured ...' I had put back all my purchases because I was like , I'd rather buy from a business that is welcoming and friendly (which translates to ANY place but here.) Not being able to hold my tongue any longer, I said, this guy has more vintage gear than anyone I know... 'Not more than my husband ' she hissed back. We left. Too bad. This could have been a long term relationship, as we are local and think this store is rad. Note to the husband, get your wife out of your selling business. I wish I could give this place 5 stars, but my goodness the older lady running the store is condescending and rude. Her daughter was welcoming and helpful last week as I shopped, and I bought a vinyl record that she said she could make into a cd for me for an additional cost. I agreed to that but was disappointed when I found the cd to not be broken into individual tracks. I called back a few days later to address my issue and realized the person I was talking to was the mom who clearly has horrible customer service skills. I was told (after being shamed a bit) that I could come in and get the cd I was supposed to get. When I brought the vinyl in today to get a cd copy made the daughter told me she could do it, but it would take an hour, but was super nice. When I came back 4 hours later the mom ignored me at first, then told me I'd have to wait an hour to get the cd. I wouldn't have purchased the album if I couldn't have a cd copy, but whatever. Long story short: fun little record store is fun when the young lady is there but is unbearable if her mother is there. I really want to come back, but can't if I'm treated like this. Update: I got a call, an apology, and they made it more than right by ordering me a copy of the cd and shipping it to me. I feel like I should chime in. I hate to see the lone review of DTS twisting in the wind as it is. I have recommended this store, and those who I've recommended it to have recommended it to others. I haven't heard a single complaint from anyone that I can confirm has shopped here. I've always been welcomed at this store each time I've been in. I've had a weird old turntable resurrected from the dead here. I've found albums I've been hunting for years here. I've special ordered a record here. I've burned time here and every gd time, I leave DTS in a much better mood than I entered. Vinyl: Excellent selection, considering how small the store is compared to other record stores I grew up around (in CA). I've bought weird 1950's space records, soul, folk, metal, garage, and indie stuff here. From Herb Alpert to Sleater-Kinney to Minor Threat to Slayer to Joni Mitchell, they have it. If they don't; they're totally willing to place a special order for you. I've got a special order record coming soon and I can't wait to stop by to pick it up. HiFi: They have an awesome selection of vintage turntables, receivers, speakers, tape players, etc. They can even repair some of your old stuff too. I dare you to point to another place around the greater northern Colorado area that can repair some old gear. I rolled the dice by buying an old record player at a flea market in CA, brought it home and it was dead. I called everyone in Denver trying to find someone that would work on it, no one would touch it because "it was junk when it was new, 40 years ago" or "we don't work on that brand" or "our repairman died last year, we need to update our website". Downtown Sound fixed it! It was affordable and (all in) cost way less than half what a new, decent record player would cost. Also, it will tear up your garbage Stanton any day of the week. Musical Gear: Small selection of guitars and basses and amps for both. Really interesting gear they'll sell. They usually have a quirky amp or two and some standards (vox, marshall, fender, etc) PLUS their tech builds his own amps modeled after spectacular amps of a certain age. This isn't Guitar Center and thank the forking stars for that! I used to play music when I was young and if I was still playing, or still young, I would totally buy some gear here. Some of it is very compelling. There's a huge amount of character and soul at Downtown Sound. Character and soul that I haven't seen from many other record stores in Denver (& nearby towns). Wax Trax is great, Twist and Shout used to be great, Downtown Sound is great. Try it. read more

Good selection of vinyl in a variety of categories, With a focus on Classic Rock. It's a family run store, and Momma was very helpful in explaining the difference between a static and cleaning brush. Great little store, friendly owners. Vinyl is always below market value and sometimes you make real finds. I have also purchased some vintage equipment here and found it to be in good condition. There was one problem with a tape deck, which they resolved in a quick and friendly manner. Happy to recommend this store to anyone in search of great deals on vinyl. read more

I am a pretty avid record collector and this store is awesome. The staff is always very friendly and inviting. They are very honest about the condition of the records they have and everything is priced very fairly. They offer new records as well and have always been able to order titles in for me. After shopping with them a while they know the items I am looking for and will even let you know when something comes in you may be interested in. Very poor vinyl selection (reminded me of a flea market or thrift store) and what they did have was definitely overpriced. Spend a little extra gas money and go to Black and Read in Arvada or Ernie November in Cheyenne instead. Staff was very unhelpful and borderline rude. Acted as if helping me was an annoyance to her. First of all, I wanted to make give a rating of ZERO stars, but had to give at least one. To anyone who is looking to buy some records i DO NOT recommend this store. I have never been treated with such disdain for just being in a store. My friend and i walked into the store looking to find a turntable and an amp, and nothing i the store was "available" for purchase. We wanted to hear a setup (that was already setup) and were refused to be able to listen to the setup. We were not "In the market" according to the woman who was running the store. We determined that the horrible service was due to being the ONLY TWO PEOPLE IN THE STORE (sarcasm intended) !! Anyway, i recommend going elsewhere. Good luck and godspeed!! read more

She helped me find the records I was looking for and even looked in the back for some more. The prices are pretty good compared to other stores in the area. I will stop by again. read more
