If you want deep cuts, and even reccomendations for obscure vinyl, well the dude that runs the joint is more than haooy to oblige. Doug and the people at this record shop are awesome. They had hosted a live music event the night before I was in and you could tell these people cared about local music and their community. Tonight, my fiancée and I came to this store for the first time, as we just recently purchased a new record player. We are in need of a receiver and speakers to complete our set, so we were looking mostly for that. Upon entering the store, I noticed it was super cute and I did appreciate the cozy vibes. However, the gentleman working was engaged in conversation with another customer for over 10 minutes before even acknowledging that we existed. I didn't expect him to stop everything to talk to us, but was a little surprised we didn't even get a quick "hey I'll be with you shortly," or something similar. While my fiancée was impressed by the selection of receivers, we ended up leaving due to the lack of customer service. We were really disappointed. May or may not give this place another shot. read more

If you enjoy stacks of old moldy Moody Blues records in a stinky shoebox-size store then this is the place for you! Seriously don't understand all of the great reviews here. We made a special trip to Longmont to try and support local record stores. We were browsing around for at least 15min with literally zero acknowledgment from the staff. A "hello" would have gone a long way, but, okay, whatever. We didn't want to waste the trip so I found one record that I sorta wanted and decided to buy it. As we were walking out the owner literally laughed in our faces mocking our choice of purchase. Sigh. It's so cliche to run into pretentious record store owners. Just stumbled into this place today after eating a delicious meal at Pupusa's across the street. I had no idea this place existed so it was a very pleasant surprise. It is very small but stuffed with records, a small amount of books, and there was a section for vintage stereo equipment. The guy working there, who I am assuming was the owner, was very friendly (which in my experience is not always the case in music stores, so big bonus points). I've been an album collector for years and when traveling I always look for the local vinyl record shops. Stopped by this shop and was pleasantly surprised by the great selection they had. From reggae to classic rock, jazz, blues, soundtracks and more, you won't be disappointed. Doug was friendly and courteous by providing his time to play some albums for me. Places like this give Boulder some depth and kindness( the people who work there are so friendly! and helpful) i too have found some gems here. Some great new wave/punk and honky tonk (and other variations of jazz) have been my favorites. Reopened in Longmont recently and is a sorely needed establishment in the area. Continuing the excellent service and inventory from the former Boulder location, this is where I'll spend most of my vinyl money. Most authentic record store in boulder. I invite anyone to argue with me on this one. Superb selection of pre rave vinyl with a small indie section. No dust! Records are kept and stored with utmost care. I shopped here a lot because I learned something new every visit no matter who was working. I love it here, makes me feel at home. Absolute is the place to go if you want to find more elusive records such as old blues, folk, and jazz. Doug the owner, is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. He always greets us by name when we come in, and has held records that I wanted behind the counter that I couldn't afford at the time. What a sweet, sweet, man. Other Yelpers knew what they were writing about when they gave this little record shop the highest rating in the Denver area. I stopped in on a sunny Saturday around noon, and was greeted by one of the owners with a smile and a friendly "welcome." I asked where the used recent arrivals were located, and she proceeded to give me a full tour of the store. I must say, this store has a really great selection of vinyl, both used and new, as well as a wall of vintage used receivers, speakers, turntables, and a few amps in the back. Along the walls are the more rare vinyl, as well as photos and posters from nearby Red Rocks, which adds a really great local feel to the room. The owner seemed to know each person who walked through the door, and called them by name, it was impressive. She asked me if I was looking for anything in particular, which I was looking for the Kinks and the Trogs. She took me immediately to a couple of Kinks albums and offered to play it on the soundsystem in the store as a I browsed. Again, very impressive. She even called her husband, who is the other owner, and asked if he could look for any Trogs they may have at their home. The records are graded quite conservatively, and most have been inspected and cleaned prior to being priced. All of the vinyl I ended up buying, including the Kinks LP, looked near mint or better despite being graded Very Good or Excellent. Most of the selection was classic Rock, with some Modern and Punk mixed in, as well as a nice section of Jazz. Some genres such as blues, folk, and country were not as well respresented, but the choices in the sections were quality, and very clean. If I lived in the Denver area, I would hope to become a customer that is welcomed by name each time I stopped in...this place is a little gem in Boulder, and well worth a visit if you are in to vinyl, and great customer service. read more

This shop has a lot of vinyl, and it'd be a good place to find something that's hard to find other places. They're also nice people. Having said that, I found a book for a great price, brought it to the counter and was charged a different price for it than the tag on the spine of the book. I pointed out the price that was on a tag. I was told that that was not their price tag, that their prices are on the inside front cover. I was really irked and passed on the book. That's fine if that's how they want to run their business, but for the $4 profit that they didn't lose on selling me the book for the price on the tag, they lost a customer. The staff is informative and always has good, rare, interesting music playing. I like the store set up and all the equipment they had. That is the plus. However, I came to look at their vinyl collection and after skimmimg the selection several times I had a hard time finding something I was willing to buy. Otherwise everything is good. read more

I must preface this review by saying that i don't know much about vinyl records, or music to be honest. BUT I do know a well run business when I see one. I came in looking for some records for my boyfriend's record player. The owner, Doug, was so helpful and informative. You can tell he not only knows his merchandise, but he truly cares. There is a wide selection, and everything is very well organized, so whatever you may be looking for either Doug can tell you off he top of his head, or it'd be easy to find. The records are also very well cared for and they are marked with how many times the store cleaned them. They also have some cool used books for sale, record players, and cleaning supplies. They even host live music! This place really gave me a community store type of feel that really shows a passion for vinyl and vintage music. This is my first yelp review. If I could rate my experience here today any lower I would. As an avid record collector, I have been in this shop a few times over the last few years since moving to Boulder. Their vinyl collection is nothing big to speak of, and is pretty overpriced but as a last resort I do check out this shop. This morning we went here for Record Store Day. I have been to other shops on record store day, and while they all have their own style of dealing with the lines, crowd management is typically based on your place is in line. So if you are in the first 10 places in line, chances are you will get at least one of the albums you came looking for. Absolute Vinyl was not like this. Before the door opened, the owner came out and gave everyone a lecture about how the shop is open other days of the year as well and seemed annoyed that he had to deal with this line of people. Then he opened the door and it was basically a chaotic free-for-all mad dash to where everyone assumed the special releases would be, so even though we were within the first 10 people in line, it didn't matter at all as everyone from the back of the line was elbowing their way to the front. While I was looking for something specific on my list, one of the people working in the store yelled out that most of the special releases were where everyone was crowded around, but that they had also mixed in random special releases throughout their normal selection as well. While I don't ever expect to find every special release I would like to buy, I found the overall experience here today very disappointing. Crowd management could have been dealt with so much better, rather than being treated like a pack of wolves that were unwanted. I will gladly take my business elsewhere from now on. read more

Record Store Day at Absolute Vinyl was a blast. I brought my daughter and we picked out something really special together, and she hung out and listened to a DJ who was performing. It was great to chat with the owner, Doug, and befriend a bunch of local music geeks with whom I might not have otherwise crossed paths. Anyone complaining about the crowd - which was large but courteous - or the Record Store Day setup and "rules" at Absolute Vinyl just needs something to complain about. Absolute Vinyl has created a pleasant niche for itself in recent years by being *the* place to buy turntables, amps and speakers in Boulder. While the selection of used punk and alternative vinyl is slim, that stuff is hard to come by virtually anywhere, and Absolute Vinyl's always-growing selection of jazz, classic rock and country albums is fantastic. I am fine paying $2 more for a great old gem at Absolute Vinyl to cover the cost of the excellent staff cleaning and grading the records, whereas at other local record shops the vinyl might be cheap but, to quote Forrest Gump, "you never know what you gonna get." Some of the stuff in Absolute Vinyl's free box is the same quality as what you'll find for $3-$5 at some other local vinyl shops! read more

Best selection of analog vinyl LPs anywhere in Boulder. Bought a vintage NAD stereo amplifier/tuner setup from them. The equipment was fully checked out by an audio technician before they would even talk about selling it to me. The stereo system sounds great. The whole staff is VERY knowledgeable about music and audio equipment. I highly recommend this store. read more

I took records and cassette tapes along with a few pieces of stereo equipment to AV in Aug. 2015. I had an employee count the albums/tapes and took the receipt home. I did not document the albums. After reading reviews I assumed my things would be well handled. I got a semi-reasonable offer on the equipment within a month and took the offer. I called about 4 months and again in 8 months in to check on my albums. Not ready yet. After 9 1/2 months I received an offer of 48 cents apiece for the albums which I rejected. A few days later I went to pick up the albums and again had an employee count the albums/tapes. I was 6 albums short and not very happy. I talked to Doug several times and he was unsure how this possibly could happen. He offered me albums from the bargain bin to replace the missing. Then he offered to buy only two albums from me. I rejected both offers because I was not sure what was missing. I just wanted the things I brought to them returned. The term 'cherry picker' comes to mind and since we could not come to an agreement I told him I would take the loss. I also told him that I would post a review to warn others and hopefully make his process better. If you take albums to Absolute Vinyl make a list of what you have. read more
