As an avid vinyl collector I made it a point to come in to Twist & Shout while visiting Denver from Austin, TX. Even as my second time here in the last 4 years I was happy to see Twist & Shout made MORE room for vinyl selections and browsing space. You still have other media too include DVDs (rare and hard to find selections), CDs, cassettes, and unique and local gifts and items. Take some time to look around here even up and down the walls. There is a really cool yellow Bruce Springsteen marquee in the sell/buy area. We spent over an hour here browsing and I walked out with two vinyl albums I had on my "Must-Have" list of analog music. Great and fair pricing on their "Used" records but to be honest all music is priced fairly. Really cool location with friendly service from the staff. Flippant, Dishonest, and Deeply Disrespectful Buying Experience and the records are overpriced I have shopped here in the past and based on the high prices of the used records, I assumed my used records would sell at fair market value here but this was not the case. I brought in a curated stack of clean, high‑demand records and was met with one of the most disrespectful experiences I have ever had. The buyer behind the counter was openly flippant, dismissive, and acted like I had no idea what I was bringing in. His attitude alone set the tone -- rushed, condescending, and completely uninterested in treating me with respect. I think it takes longer than five minutes to look at the quality and condition of 30 records. He opened with a lowball offer that did not match the titles, rarity or the condition, and when I questioned it, he said "records not selling" while we are standing in a store literally packed with people buying vinyl. It was insulting, and it was clearly meant to make me feel like I should be grateful for whatever lowball number he threw out. The moment I pushed back and asked for my records back, his offer suddenly jumped up but still well under a fair trade. That tells you everything about their honesty and ethics. It was not about fair value -- it was about seeing what they could get away with - how low they could lowball. To top it off, they paid with a check instead of cash, which made the whole thing feel even more disrespectful, inconvenient, and dismissive. In hindsight, I wish I had taken my records back but I was so disoriented by the disrespect and clerk behavior. And it made me realize why I never sell or trade records. If you care about being treated with basic respect or honesty, take your business somewhere else. I will never buy anything from this disreputable unethical establishment. And you should not either. This is not a mom and pop business but a business operating without integrity exploiting its customers. read more

What a cool place to explore! 11000 square feet of it! First time here. The amount of vinyl records they have at Twist & Shout is impressive. Along with CDs, DVDs, and merchandise. The staff is friendly and helpful to answer all of my questions. I reflected on all the cool vinyl albums that I've had in past and at Twist & Shout you can relive them & purchase them. Their selection is so vast that I believe you would find what you are looking for. I came to see if they wanted any of my old CDs. They did take some of them and I received store credit! Free parking is available in the back. Go check it out, you won't be disappointed! Who knew that they have been around since 1988 and it all began with 2 English teachers purchasing the store at an auction. First off let me say I wasn't there to shop. I had called them looking for a place to sell my CD collection. I spoke with a guy on the phone and he wanted to know how many CD's I had. I told him over 300 and he said I'd need to make an appointment. Done, Sunday at noon. Soooo... I show up on my appointment day and time and Max tells me he'll need about an hour to an hour and a half to go through them all. Ok, fine... there are some food trucks down the street that smelled delicious, so I go off in search of food. Right at or near abouts an hour and a half, Max calls and says he done and can offer me $50 for some of my CD's. Apparently, they are extremely picky on what they will buy... Really, if I'd had this information before making an appointment, driving across town on a Bronco Sunday and hanging out on East Colfax for an hour and a half I could've saved us both a lot of trouble. Thanks but no thanks, for $50 I'll keep my cd's and the ones you wanted to cherry pick. And honestly Max, when you're throwing shade... make sure the person isn't standing behind you. read more

This is the most massive, locally-owned record store I've ever been to. They have some DEEP cuts and artists that I haven't seen carried anywhere else. I could have spent the entire day digging. Employees at the counter were incredibly helpful and friendly. This is on Record Store Day too, and there were so many people shopping but even the other patrons were overall very respectful and mindful of space. I was slightly disappointed because some of my favorite artists they didn't have markers for and therefore I assume they didn't carry vinyl for in general (Rhapsody, Kehlani, Gang Starr, The Hip Abduction) and were completely out of a few others (Toni Braxton, Brandy). On the flip side, we found some records that were absolute gems. They also said that they can order the records that I couldn't find, so overall I think that it makes up for what they don't have in immediate stock. We were also shopping from out of state, and they were able to ship our large haul back home. This was a dope experience and exactly why you should shop local. read more

I have spent thousands of dollars over the last two decades at Twist And shout records it was my go to store for buying albums vinyl and CDs. This past weekend I went in the store like usual I have 3000 albums and once in a while I'll accidentally buy an that I already have which was the case I told him listen I don't want a refund I just want to exchange it for another accidentally bought an that I already . The manager came up looked at me eyes and said I'm sorry sir we cannot help you or give you a refund ever because you made one of our associates angry. Music is one of my passions in life I am so happy when I get to walk into this record store and purchase . I've known many of the associates there from the years that I've shopped there this completely came left field. I asked if I could speak to the she knew me he said we're under new ownership it's been sold. I said the sales person who has made this claim. He said he doesn't know who it was it's just in the system that they can no longer help me and I'm not the store. As far as I'm concerned whoever recently purchased Twist And shout you're doing a terrible terrible job I will never ever go back to your store there are plenty of other record stores in Denver and I would suggest to all of you do not go to they are not trustworthy. read more

I hadn't been here in many years, but had time to kill before a movie at Sie, so had to stop in. I found myself thinking, if you wanted to find any music on the planet it would be here. The selection is incredible. The space is very big. If you like socks or t-shirts with funny saying on them, look no further. The gifts section had some great stuff that I need to keep in mind next time I'm looking for fun, funky, and unique gifts. I have patronized T&S many times in the past and I knew I'd pull in a great score on RSD. Twist and Shout always seems to have all the releases. After that it just boils down to timing. I missed one album by mere minutes but for the majority, found what I wanted. For the most part, the staff was helpful and jovial except for one sales guy who totally ran the checkout line in rude, disrespectful behavior. It's not like customers were acting up or causing problems. Everyone was minding their own, keeping distance and wearing masks. My son and I thought it was very well orchestrated too but this "dude" kept telling everyone we aren't keeping close enough to the wall. What? Yea, i was just as much flabbergasted by this and his other condescending remarks. Anyway, just one guy won't keep us from our guilty pleasure. Vinyl is great to have and always appreciate our local record shops for doing all they can to have inventory on RSD releases. read more

This is one of the largest record stores I've ever been to and it was an extremely fun experience. There was such a wide selection and so many vinyls to choose from it was really hard to dwindle down my purchase to only four records. The records are priced roughly around what you would find on discogs with the convenience of taking the vinyl home that day and not fussing with shipping costs. read more

Is there an album you've searched everywhere for and can't find? I can almost guarantee you will find it here. The amount of stock is mind blowing.... New and used. Unfortunately, I was in town for a short time and only had about 30 minutes here to do some power shopping which wasn't an issue because I had an armful in no time. I would have loved to check out the movies and CD's. The parking is a bit tight in this area but you can use the garage and the store will validate. An impressive stop for digging. For an out-of-towner, Twist & Shout's a fair hop, skip and jump away from a lot of landmark buildings in Central Park & Capitol Hill. This was my day to pick and drive throughout the city so I chose to dig at Wax Trax and T&S. Twist & Shout was the bigger and badder of the two and it took a better part of the hour we had on meter to sift through their stock. A majority of it were new, sealed records with their branded stickers on the opening side. In fact, they were all so new, it must've been The Led, Prince and MF Doom's third/fourth/fifth repressings that made it so sickening to see on shelf. But that's a story for this original press-seeking, color-exclusive junkie to complain about another day...or on another review. They had a record I have been trying to find for months. Giant wall of funko pops that is very cool and had this very cool John Lennon figure! The most expensive record store in Colorado, period. With so much competition these days there's no need to spend 20% or 30% over suggested retail prices or what other places are charging. The vinyl selection isn't what it used to be, and most of the shop is taken up with gimmicks and toys, so the price hikes are not justified. Pass. read more

We always come here when we are looking for something to do that's within walking distance, as we find it enjoyable to peruse and just thrilling to see what we can find. Staff interactions are very hit or miss, you either have someone who thoroughly loves what they do and enjoys sharing their knowledge on music with others. On the other hand some of the employees are very condescending and come off persnickety when you ask them for any kind of help. For example, I once placed an order for a vinyl in-store, however there was an issue and it was delayed (this was months ago and I never received the actual vinyl). When the employee called me I was at work and was unable to answer, but my voicemail was full. I called back and inquired as to why they had called, and the employee was super rude and told me I need to be better and keep an empty voicemail? The attitude was very unnecessary. Some of their markups are also insane, while I'm all for supporting local businesses, a $15-$20 markup is insane. This is not the case for everything, but lately it seems like it is. I recently spent $90 on two records, once I got home I saw that they were half the price everywhere else, but I didn't bother to return them as they only offer store credit. Again, amazing ambiance and sometimes you can find reasonably priced amazing finds, but lately is has been a bit lackluster. read more

I've spent 1000s of dollars in this store and the quote they gave me for the records I was selling was easily 15-20% of what they'll sell for on the racks. I did it because admittedly I'm going through hard times and was hungry but it felt like a slap in the face. I'll never step foot in that store again. read more

Great selection of CDs and records! Came on a Saturday and it was fairly busy but the space was big enough. They had a decent selection of Latinx music and at great prices. I really appreciated having access to listen to the records. They had multiple record players available for you to listen to records. The only thing I would recommend changing is the placement of the record players. I did feel like I was blocking people from entering certain sections since it was a tight squeeze. But other than that, definitely be ready to spend a few hours here: Excellent customer service too! read more

A music lover's paradise! I love spending a spare hour here flipping through all of the amazing vinyl. This is the best selection of new vinyl I've found here in town--they've also got lots of used records, CDs, tapes, and interesting music books (although if you're in the market for books, Tattered Cover is right next door). Parking can be tricky on Colfax, but luckily there's a big parking structure for Twist & Shout customers. Drive up to to the top on a nice day to get a pretty view of the mountains before and after your shopping sesh! Twist & Shout has a great staff of knowledgeable folks who all seem to have been there for a while. They'll help you if you need it but aren't sales-y or in your face while you're perusing. Prices are a little higher on average than what you'd find online, but there's something really satisfying by having the record in your hands as you buy it (plus supporting local businesses, yo!). My partner is a Denver-based musician and I've also noticed Twist & Shout it great about stocking local music and talking about upcoming shows on their social channels. So glad this Denver staple is nearby to fill my music needs! read more

Found a couple good records including Eminem's slim shady LP and Gaslight Anthems '59 Sound. Spent 80$ for five records total, 3 sealed and brand new. Twist & Shout has been in Denver Colorado since 2006. It's located in a modern building across the street from Carla Madison park. From street side I thought it was going to be a small store but upon entering you see that is enormous. So far they have been the largest Vinyl store I've been in and a huge selection! There is cool memorabilia on every wall. So take your time looking around. You'll see an autographed Bruce Springsteen guitar in a case which has a cool history if you ask about it. Here collectors will find a wall with rare vinyls that cost $100 and up. I was checking out the The Beatles 'Butcher Cover' 3rd state for $299.99, which was a decent price. *Staff here was very friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. These guys know their stuff here! *There is street parking, garage parking and a small parking lot in the back that is free. read more

My husband and i love spending time here browsing through their new and used record collections looking for the latest albums or great deals on used ones. They also carry some gag gifts and music-based books around the store. PSA for the holiday season: their gift card system is stupid. You have to have an account set up in the gift givers name and it makes it cumbersome for the recipient to use their gift easily. read more

There's a definite trade-off here at Twist & Shout: an overwhelmingly large selection of vinyl (seriously: I've been able to check albums off my list here that I've been looking for for YEARS in different cities) contrasted by high sticker prices. In other words, you'll likely find what you're looking for, but you're gonna pay for it. Don't expect to locate any rare bargain finds here. All that being said, though, I really like this shop. In addition to an extensive vinyl selection, they also have all sorts of other music/movies/memorabilia to sort through. You can kill some serious time at this place. Check it. read more
