First time here today. Was a walk in. Was lucky enough to get Z! Had a a haircut and shave. Z was amazing! I have been going from barber to barber for the last 2 years because I haven't found anyone really good. Until today. Z has 17 years experience. And is so passionate about what he does. He listened. And executed with such expertise and ease. I told him when he finished that felt so good because I looked so good. I also shared that his joy in cutting hair was evident. He makes good haircutting look so easy. His shaping of my beard was great too. Really glad I finally found a great barber! I highly recommend Dr. Beard... but, really, I highly recommend Z. Dear owner: your business model failed. All I wanted= zero guard all over. more than two hours until closing. 10 minutes to perform this. And your employees rejected me. Apparently you have strict appointments on the half hour, and cannot intelligently adapt. Since you say walk-ins are welcome; but no walk in would've been welcome which such a strict inflexible business model. I drove a half an hour expecting to be welcome and instead got rejected by employees who could not do anything else? That's why I say your advertised business model failed; or the other possibility is that your advertise business model does not reflect your actual business model. Not good, either way. BELATED UPDATE I'D FORGOTTEN TO POST: I was later contacted via email by ownership, who were very empathetic and professional. They acknowledged about "walk-ins welcome" contrasted with my experience. They satisfied me that they cared about welcoming customers and would redress. Let me save you the trouble of trying different barbers. And tell you you've found the best beard guy in LA (believe me, I've been to all of them). Moen's cuts are consistent, knowledgeable and grow out really well without that awkward look. read more

You would think that a business called Dr Beard would know how to trim and style a beard, especially from the owner, Moen.... NOPE! Not only did he not do what I asked, but he basically took off my sideburns saying he was fading them into my hairline. And to top it off, the right side was longer than the left side. So when I complained, he started adding the right side to match and then went back and started taking more of the left side, until I stopped him. I HAD a full beard which included a full hairline under my lower lip, which took me months to grow in. He shaved its off leaving just a soul patch leading into my chin. Think of Widows Peaks, but instead of on your forehead, it's under my lip. The whole experience lasted 15 minutes. When I went to pay, the person behind the register told me it was $43. I thought I didn't hear her correctly and I asked her to repeat it. Just then the owner told her not to charge me. He clearly knew he screwed up and that I was very unhappy. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!! read more

Saw the amazing reviews on Yelp and made an appointment for the husband. When he arrived the "barber" refused to cut his hair and completely hacked his beard. He spent months carefully growing out length and volume so it could be styled the way he wanted. Unfortunately we trusted the wrong shop and the wrong hands and now he has a thin beard with bald sideburns that make him look like a comic book villain. Horrible experience for $50!! If you choose to make an appointment, be sure to do your research and consult with the barber to be sure you don't suffer the same fate!! read more

I've been here a handful of times, never with an apportment so have seen different stylists, so this review is for me last visit. I was promptly greeted and there was a stylist ready upstairs for me. Her name is Debbie. I've never had her before but she was amazing. She had personality and professionalism and although I trust each step she literally would inform me like, ok now I'm about to trim the sides with the razor and will go through and blend it I'm about to XYZ. While I fully trust all my stylists I was like dang this woman is bona fide making sure as a new client for her I am aware each step. That won points. I was quickly greeted, trimed and freshened up, all in the great company and service of Debbie. I've never had her before and that always makes me anxious. I was sweating a little from a busy day and she got some cool air on too, and also admittedly used a towel to de shine my forehead. The cut was great and I tend to be quiet as I get my hair cut but we had a great balance of some chat but also she could tell I was sort of the type of dude who throws trust into the professional and goes with the flow. On a $30 or $35 haircut I tipped about 80%. Reason? Incredible help getting me in right away, a bomb hairstylist, great service, her station was upstairs so it was just us aka I wasn't awakard with other customers and it looks amazing. I tip for service not necessarily a price or percentage. Debbie de la Cruz is so awesome. I'll note that everyone I've had there is awesome. The main dude and I'm spacing on his name is stellar. Had him twice and he's a dang pro and gets the male beard and hair thing really well. But I was stoked with my experience with Debbie. I felt comfortable having her trim my locks I've been growing for two years, slowly, and even as a new client she understood my needs. And while I didn't need it per se, I was so pleased how she explained what she was about to do. So if in the rare event I had an issue, which I didn't, she gave a heads up. That's above and beyond. These fine people definitely live up to their name. They take "Beard" care to a higher level. I have been taken care of here by almost all of the stylists. Everyone of them are excellent stylists with a different unique design. You will never get bored of your look. Be confident to set an appointment with any one of them. Management definitely knows how to hire stylists, and every cut is overlooked by the master stylist here. I would not do a "walk-in" here as they are very busy and I highly recommend appointments. Nothing but positive things to say about this place! I've now been here 4 times. Had cuts and beard trims from Khalid, Amanda & now Gabe. Quality every time! Not to take anything away from Amanda and Khalid but, after today I will be requesting Gabe from now on. I showed up and he checked me in for an appointment with another artist I wasn't familiar with... She was still with another client so Moen told him to take care of my beard... And I'll be honest, at first I was a little nervous because I hadn't seen him cut yet, and could tell he's likely an apprentice but I embraced it. After all.. hair grows back if it's not what I want... I could really feel how much he pays attention to detail and he was sure to be very clear about what I wanted... He finished up my beard and we were both stoked how it cane out.. At that time I started to tell him how I wanted my hair, to which he said I'm gonna have the other artist finish you up, I insisted he cut my hair... He was reluctant at first likely because he hasn't been given the opportunity much, but I saw how well he did with my beard so I pushed for him to show me what he can do... Everyone needs their shot to shine. I'm more than thrilled I gave him that shot. He finished my hair and we went back to the beard to bring it in a little bit more on the sides, only because I hadn't had my hair this short in a while and to match things up it made sense. When I got there at 6:07pm the door was locked and the person still working on the inside was super mad that I even came and asked for an explanation on why the door was locked. Great barbershop in WeHo catering to men who want top shelf care. Two story open air shop with a classic retro vibe. Comfortable leather chairs, wood accents and hipster touches make this a great option along the main strip. The shop is wired with good sound and a bass heavy background soundtrack is typically on point. Abundant parking is a huge perk as there are both meter spots along the main drag as well as a shared lot in the back of the shop with a dozen or so spaces. Barbers on both levels will tend to your scruff with care. I've seen all styles of men from upscale, buttoned down sharks to laid back fly surfing types roll out with a fresh style and swagger. While they handle beards and all manner of facial hair with flair, many of the men I've seen here are clean shaven so don't expect anything but a welcoming vibe here for all comers. Prices are upscale barber salon level as this is not super cuts. You'll appreciate keeping your priorities in check both as you relax during the process and as the comments fly after. I've broken some necks walking out of this shop and am so sorry not sorry for that. Walk-ins are typically handled or scheduled for later depending on volume but I'd definitely recommend calling ahead to set up an appointment. The artists are on a rotating schedule so depending on your timing you'll see different chairs in action. I can definitely recommend Moen as he's my go to but honestly all of the staff here give good hair. Okay, I said I'd be going back to Dr. Beard and I did. The guy who had cut my beard last time ha moved to another city, so this time I got Moen, the owner. Interestingly, his style was pretty different than the first time, but produced every bit as good results. The other thing that struck me this time was that the people working there seem to be having fun. From Nica, the receptionist, to Amanda, another barber who has no idea who I am but welcomed me with a smile and some kind words. This is a solid barbershop experience with cutters who really know what they are doing. I had an appointment for a beard trim/lineup at 1:30 and got caught in a meeting that ran long. When I called as I got out of my meeting at 1:30, to apologize and reschedule, I was quite rudely told I couldn't reschedule and that my deposit would be kept... while I understand the point of making people pay in advance to avoid straight up no shows, it seems bananas they don't make any sort of allowances for people who are just doing their best.
