Dr Plotnik saved my sight. I had triple vision from a botched cataract surgery and Dr Plotnik was able to do the muscle repair so that I can see like I did even before the cataract surgery. I couldn't drive, was constantly afraid of falling due to a lack of depth perception and was afraid to travel or do anything out of my immediate neighborhood. His skill literally gave me back a normal life. God willing I don't need any additional correction in the future but if I did there is no question I would use Dr Plotnik. And for the complaints on here about wait times... well I would rather wait for a good doctor than be shuffled through like an assembly line just to get in and out quickly. read more

I didn't want to write a bad review but this has happened every time I go to this office to see Dr. Plotnik. My appointment was at 10:40 am. I got there at 10:30 am per their instructions. A lot of people came after I arrived and one by one they were called in. I was called inside at 11:15 am, 35 minutes after my appointment time. Was taken to exam room, told to sit on the uncomfortable exam room chair. I waited there until 11:50 am for Dr. Plotnik to make his appearance!! An hour and 10 minutes after my appointment time. He saw me literally for 5 minutes in a hurry! I had another appointment at noon which I completely missed. What bothered me the most was the fact that, not the front desk. Not Dr. Plotnik, not the check out people had the courtesy to apologize for the 1 hour and 10 minutes delay, like nothing has happened and this is charity work, and this delay is NORMAL! It is NORMAL! This is unacceptable. I don't understand how they can do this all the time and no action is taken to correct this unpleasant experience for their customers. Along with similar stories, I needed strabismus surgery for over 10 years. I saw Dr.Plotnik 10 years ago and at the time my strabismus wasn't terrible and I wasn't ready for surgery. Fast forward 10 years my strabismus became significantly worse. I avoided surgery for so long because I was terrified. After seeing Dr.Plotnik he made me feel at ease and I even called other ophthalmologists and every single one recommended him and he is known for being the very best for this procedure. Besides being an hour late, which is not unusual, Dr Plotnik is in such a hurry and if you don't react to him quickly, he will get very short with you. While examining my eyes, I was trying to answer his questions and I he said he didn't need my answers he could tell from my eyes. He then spoke into his recorder and although I was sitting with a notebook of questions on my lap,, he told me "you can go now" He has cut me off regularly. I provided him my schedule staying home to make sure I didn't miss his call and he would call on a different day or a week later. He made it clear that he was making all the sacrifices. He just dismisses you. I am almost 70 and I'm afraid to ask my questions. He called me on Mother's Day to just yell and intimidate me and I couldn't get a word in edgewise. Dr. Plotnik efficiently and effectively cured our child's amblyopia (lazy eye) with surgery. He thoroughly tried non-surgical methods prior to surgery including patching as well as glasses. Dr. Plotnik is highly efficient, pro-active, patient, and excellent with kids. As I understood it, surgery for lazy eye correction is a 50/50 shot to get right the first time and sometimes requires a second attempt. Algorithms are used (with the patient's current visual capacity numerical data) to determine the best area on the eyeball for muscle reattachment. Dr. Plotnik made it clear to us that there was no guarantee he would fix the issue the first time but that he would definitely give it his all, as he does for each patient in his care. His hands were guided by God the day of surgery because our outcome was 100% successful with overall improvement in vision to near 20/20 level which is considered average vision. This was a huge blessing for us as we had to pay out-of-pocket for everything b/c we could not afford Obamacare's high premiums and exorbitant deductibles. I would highly recommend Dr. Plotnik for his expertise and great manner with children. read more

As parent there are few feelings worse than letting your child down. Two surgeries, countless wasted hours dealing with broken scheduling/billing/etc processes and my daughter is worse off than when we started. We started with headaches and strabismus and now we have headaches, strabismus, and misaligned eyes at certain angles. Medical Care Quality: Uncaring/Rushed w/ a poor outcome Overall Patient/Caretaker Experience: Poor in most ways. A couple years ago, our daughter was having some pretty bad headaches regularly (rather disconcerting for us as we could not identify a cause). After seeing several different specialists and even having an MRI to rule out anything sinister, we landed at the Arizona Pediatric Eye Specialists practice where our daughter was diagnosed with strabismus (and the headaches were a secondary effect of her tilting/straining). The opthamologist recommended surgery and referred us to Dr. Plotnik. Dr. Plotnik himself seems like a decent guy. His bedside manner in our visits were highly variable - between pleasant/good-with-kids and impatient/distracted. He talks over you and provides answers that suggest impatience or arrogance, but is confident and authoritative. At the first consult, we were offput a bit by his hurried and aggressive push for surgery, but felt OK about his capabilities. So, we scheduled the surgery. On surgery day, Dr. Plotnik was great before in settling our daughter's nerves down, but rushed on the aftercare and failed to set expectations on recovery. After the surgery, we noticed almost immediately an odd "misalignment" of her eyes when she looked at certain angles. One eye would basically go off on it's own. This was unsettling, of course. At the follow-up (a week after surgery), Dr. Plotnik seemed unconcerned and said to let it heal and let's check it again in a few months (which honestly made good sense). Unfortunately, six months came and went, but the condition did not improve. The headaches were gone though, so we felt better in that regard, but now we had a different issue that was started to impact our daughter emotionally (kids can be cruel with things like that). This is when we started to feel some doubts about Dr. Plotnick. As noted above, our daughter had some very significant mistracking between eyes after the first procedure. When we went to see him, he spoke and behaved as if the first one never happened. He was dismissive (politely) and wouldn't offer any discussion of why it resulted as it did other than the pure clinical cause in the current state. However, we had spoken to friends who said a second surgery was not uncommon, so we were hopeful (truthfully, we didn't care - we just wanted it fixed) and scheduled the second surgery. Stupid mistake on our part. She had the surgery ~4 weeks ago. The results are not better - just different, and she's had headaches (milder than before) since the procedure. Our scheduled follow-up was postponed - the office called to move the appointment hours before. Then, the office calls and says they need to move it again by a week, and when we explain that we have concerns about waiting given the issues we see.... ... And they say, "It's OK. The technician has looked at the chart, and she's healing OK.". WHAT? Then, she asks which eye it was?!?! OMFG. A scheduler who knows nothing about the patient is giving us an opinion about her condition based on a technician who has not seen the patient interpreting a chart that has not been updated in two weeks?!?! Seriously? I'm really questioning the legality of what was told to us here... Clearly, the scheduler just wanted us off the phone so she could move on with her list of appointments to move, but this is more than a little disturbing. After getting a slightly animated, we were handed off to someone who was empowered and interested in addressing our concerns & set us up with another doctor. Sadly, it's typical of the experience we've had with the office. The basic processes appear to be broken. Billing (like most specialist practices) is a confusing mess w/ little transparency. Scheduling is a nightmare. It typically involves calls (w/ no expectation of timing) with zero chance of getting the person you need if you should miss their call and have to call back. Even trying to pay them (under threat of cancellation of surgery appointment w/ 4 hour notice!) was a nightmare (unanswered phones, forboding messages). The people in the office themselves vary in demeanor. The front desk person when you come in seems great. She's patient with the lobby full of kids (knowing that folks are gonna be waiting at least 20 minutes after their appointment time). The checkout person is downright unpleasant. Our several interactions have always been same with her being impatient and seemingly not willing to be bothered when needing to do something simple like provide a contact or print something out. read more

Excellent doctor!!! Spent so much time with me and explained everything. I finally opted for surgery to correct my double vision. The Desert Ridge surgery center was fantastic - wonderful caring people. I was told I may still have double vision for a few days after the surgery but the day after, I took the bandage off and I was cured!!! no more double vision. The last appointment that took an hour and a half before we were seen by the doctor should have been a red flag but... it's a shame they're convenient and looking for another doctor would be difficult. Apparently, calling a few weeks in advance for more contact lenses is not long enough. Still waiting for a call back from his office. Looks like ordering online will be faster. The back office and support staff are extremely disorganized and don't care about your time. I will say the doctor, himself, individualizes every treatment plan which is a positive! One doctor said my son was too young for contacts, while Dr. Plotnik was more than willing to prescribe my son contacts. Six months into it, my son wears them without a problem! read more

We saw another doctor in the same practice for years, and after our final bad experience (there were many), we went to see Dr. Plotnik. I wish we would have made the change much, much sooner. My son has been a patient with Dr Plotnik for almost 7 years, and I feel there has been a decline in the staffing and overall office experience. I reside on the west side and my sons care requires every 3 months to visit Dr Plotnik for eye pressure and evaluation. Today my son had an appointment at 4pm, and upon my arrival at the Scottsdale office at 3:20pm I see a sign on the office door stating "Please excuse our absence while we are learning a new computer system." I received NO phone call, as a matter of fact I received a text confirmation of my sons appointment today at 4pm. I called Phoenix Children's Medical scheduling which took a hold time of approximately 15 minutes before I reached a live person. I expressed my frustration about today's experience and she rescheduled my appointment. She stated she would forward my concern to the manager for follow up. She stated that myself, and 2 other parents were not notified about the cancellations for today-with no notes on our accounts. Mind you my information has not changed since becoming a patient 6 1/2 years ago. This has been the 2nd instance in which I have had a scheduled appointment that was cancelled WITHOUT my knowledge. The previous time occurs earlier this year in which my son required a vision field exam at the only office that accommodates this test-located in Mesa. The morning of the appointment I noticed I had not received a confirmation call for the test, so I called the Mesa office to confirm. I was told by a scheduler at that office my sons appointment was cancelled due by management due to lack of technicians available that day to perform the test. It was apparently cancelled a month earlier without my knowledge. I appreciate Dr. Plotnik for his knowledge and skill, but I don't know if it's office politics or the bureaucracy of merging with larger medical groups that have significantly affected the patient experience. My time is just as valuable as any Doctor and when I take the time to commute my son to Scottsdale from Litchfield Park - I take his care very seriously and so I expect the same from his Doctor and staff. If I fail to appear for an appointment or do not cancel within a certain time frame, I could face a charge for inconvenience- what exactly is the consequence should it be vice versa? Apparently just my inconvenience, taking my son out of school early to make this appointment and wasting a trip for nothing to be accomplished...... read more

Dr. Plotnik is great with kids, you just won't find any better out there. The reason for the 2 stars is his office billing policies are crap. I a single parent with limited income, when I called to request that they bill me for half and the other party for the other half I was advised that it wasn't going to happen because the office manager felt it was "too messy" to deal with. I mean seriously?! In today's economy you're not willing to work with your customers?! WOW Their office staff is mediocre at best..very snotty attitude..total Scottsdale attitude Sorry I may be moving on to a someone with better customer service! read more

Unhappy with his surgery performed for my double vision, had a second opinion at the UCLA Jules Stein Eye Clinic. Had Plotnick taken the time, and done proper, thorough testing, he would have seen that it wasn't a matter of my eyes not coordinating images, but that my brain couldn't properly send the images to my eyes. Result: the surgery was unnecessary, (made things slightly worse, matter of fact), his prescribed prisms on my eyeglass lenses were useless...and you have one angry patient with worse vision than before. Plotnick's six-minute patient meetings with me, his arrogance, indifference, and complete dismissal of this patient's response, respectfully presented, is truly breathtaking. read more

Buyer beware! I've been taking my daughter here for years. Recently they were bought out by PCH and as a result an office visit went up by more than $100. Same doctor, same staff, same everything. I left two messages (after navigating 20 minutes worth prompts). Two weeks later still no call back. I will not be coming back and I'll be sure to warn all my friends as well that I have referred over the past 5 years. read more

I can't judge the Doctor, as I never saw him. The front office was horrible, though. Not only incompetent but extremely rude. In fact, seemed indignant that we had the nerve to complain about the lateness of the doctor. They not only double booked, but probably triple-booked based on the number of NEW patients waiting to be seen by doctor then had the nerve to say the doctor sometimes "ran late because of emergencies". I was told to be there at 3:20 to fill out paperwork for a 3:30 appointment. Then told my appointment was actually for 3:45 so before I had even completed paperwork they were already over 15 minutes late, but their office policy (which you must sign if you want treatment) is if YOU are more than 15 minutes late they will RESCHEDULE AND CHARGE YOU. Also, if you miss three appointments, even due to illness, they can and will drop you as a patient. Yet they have absolutely NO respect or appreciation for the value of their patients' time. All in all this fiasco cost me over $300 plus in lost wages and I received absolutely nothing but extremely high blood pressure, a migraine and ultimately a trip to Urgent Care for treatment after waiting 45 minutes and being told it would probably be another 45 minutes to an hour before he got to me. Most insulting of all, when I told the nurse I was leaving and would not be re-scheduling, she smugly told me "fine - good luck finding another doctor". I feel like sending the Dr. Plotnik a bill to let him know he isn't the only person who's time is valuable. Oh, and by the way, I DID find another doctor to treat my condition less than 5 miles from home so I guess he isn't not as exclusive as he would like you to think. Complete and total waste of time and money. Good luck actually seeing someone other than the front staff! read more
