I took myself, son and wife to Dr. Kvetny for three years for everything from the flu too infections. He is a very nice man, Maryann is great and staff is patient and kind and the however due to numerous erroneous diagnoses we had to leave and I am now seeing a family doctor in Manhattan. You know, I just want to take a minute to speak candidly and try to help out anyone in queens that might be reading this; if you really want the best care for you and your family you're just going to have to go into Manhattan. If you want to take care of your kids, take your kids to where rich people take their kids. Unfortunately in Queens I've had some pretty horrifying experiences. Kvetny has taken on too many patients a day to serve all right. My mother waited 2 hours and when finally asked what the hold up was, she was told she never signed and and had to be put on the back of the new list. She left. But we still came back. It seems to be the area too: When my son was two years old the doctor a block away from this one right on Metropolitan Ave. told me my son needed his back operated on because his spine was fused together. When I took the x-rays into Manhattan, the doctors all laughed and said not only were the x-rays taken at the wrong area but the abnormality in question was simply gas in my sons intestines and he just needed to fart. Most of the doctors I've ever met or visited in mid center area Queens have given me erroneous diagnoses after waiting for hours to even see them in a dirty waiting room. You get so used to that living here that you forget that there are places that see you immediately and the doctors are extremely educated and well versed in their field. Dr. Kvetny misdiagnosed multiple infections and diseases that my son had and there are some very specific situations I had as well but I do not want to slander his practice so I digress. I will say however the last time I visited Dr. Kvetny in the winter of 2014 he told me that my son was perfectly fine he just had a cold, three weeks later my son ended up in the ER with pneumonia because Kvetny failed to correctly diagnose my sons severe bronchitis. This wasn't the first time either and thinking back, this seems to happen all the time in this office. We ended up bouncing my son back-and-forth between this doctor and another and yet somehow I kept bringing my son here because of the convenience of the location even though the wait in this particular office is approximately 1 to 3 hours. The administrative staff at the front desk is always flustered on the edge of a nervous breakdown 9 out of 10 times and the place is always packed and overbooked with the front desk trying to squeeze people in in-between an already jampacked schedule. It shouldn't be like that, we should insist on better care but again, once you're used to this kind of treatment, you just assume that all the other doctors offices must be the same. I'm here to tell you that they absolutely are not. I go to Manhattan or Malba or Park Slope and it's like stepping through a portal into another world of professionalism, accuracy, 5 to 10 minute wait times, English-speaking articulate doctors who have been educated in this country at top tier world class universities. My wife received a myomectomy in Manhattan last week from a Doctor whom was recently featured on an NBC morning talk show for being one of the world's leading OB/GYN doctors. In queens I get the exact opposite impression unfortunately. My 25 y.o. cousin died at queens hospital cause a doc used the wrong blood thinner on him in surgery and I have a dozen other similar stories here in queens. One after the other. I'm appalled at how bad these practices are actually out here and In hindsight I kick myself for even bringing my son back here over and over but I won't make that mistake again. As convenient as it was to live across the street from this clinic I now take him into Manhattan where he gets the best care in America. You and your family are worth it, I know mine are so I take the extra hour to take my family were the best doctors are.
Unfortunately in this country we have to go where the money is. We have to seek healthcare and education where rich people seek it. There's a whole other conversation about the injustice that the middle and lower class receive (you and me, who go to this office) and that's a whole other conversation. But you know what? If that's what it takes I'll play the game for the sake of my beautiful family. Be well - Update, since the myomectory, my wife is 3 months pregnant with a healthy brother to my son.
