Dr. Truong has been my pcp for 2+ years now. Making appointments is easy online, and he is one of the only doctors I've ever been to who intently listens to what's going on. As far as people calling him a "quack" on here... farthest from it. He is incredibly knowledgeable in his field. He will suggest trying homeopathic remedies, but I welcomed that after my experience. I have never ever been one for acupuncture, pressure points, tapping etc. But after going to MULTIPLE specialists, having test after test after test and drug after drug to try and diagnose my issue, Dr. Truong suggested I try acupuncture with him. What did I have to lose, I don't buy into it, but literally nothing was giving me relief from other specialists or medication. 2 days post-first session, I felt the first (albeit marginal) genuine relief from terrible discomfort in over a year. Great doctor. The one downside: reviews are correct, they never answer the phone. Like ever. Or texts. Thankfully I live down the block, and I'll overlook that to continue seeing him. read more

His team is always so courteous and helpful, and they make every visit pleasant. Been a patient here for three years. On my very first visit, the doctor said after my blood work up if it's normal, he'll give me my prescription refills and if I run out before my next yearly visit, just request refills and they'll fill them. He also stated that because I'm a new patient, for my first blood work up I have to make another appointment to go over the results. This was all a lie. From the start, he only gives you a couple refills. So of course when you run out in two months and request a refill from them they firstly, drag their feet for weeks. They also decline any and all requests from your pharmacy. You can't reach anyone on the phone 100% of the time either. So by the time they reply, you're dangerously low on medication and they have you by the balls. So they tell you you're due for a visit to the office. Essentially holding your medication hostage. And after EVERY blood test, he makes you make an appointment to go over the results, even if they are completely normal. In 38 years on this planet, I've NEVER had any doctor do this. It's incredibly clear this doctor looks to capitalize on making you schedule visit after visit after visit, unnecessarily. I work Monday thru Friday, 8-4pm. The doctor is only open Tuesday thru Friday, until 4pm. So I not only have to take non-paid time off to schedule a visit, I have to pay co-pay every time. This is not sustainable. The doctor is greedy and forcing patients to come in when it's entirely not required so he can bill insurance as much as possible. This is unethical and unacceptable. I have filed a complaint with the NYS Department of Health and multiple medical review boards. The doctor is also pulling this with his elderly patients, manipulating them and their families to pay for visit after visit for no reason. But alas, he's just one of a plethora of quack, unethical doctors that plague the Astoria area. read more

Go elsewhere. Doctor is a quack that pushes acupuncture. Front desk is unreachable most of the time and does not respond to calls, emails, or texts. This doctor withheld medication that I was out of and have been on for over ten years. I had to forgo taking my extremely important medication for weeks due to the front desk's communication incompetence and the doctor's refusal to refill until seeing him. Making an appointment would not be a problem, but waiting until after I am out of medication and then refusing a temporary script until an appointment can be made is completely unacceptable. read more

Dr. Ken Truong's office has been overcrowded every morning for years, because he takes 3 days off: Sat, Sun, Mon and works only 4 hours on all other days. Then he rushes through patients, so I didn't get a chance to bring up one more medical issue: my heart symptoms, because he quickly took another patient, while he got me involved talking to his receptionist. When I complained about this to his face, he replied, that I was disrespectful and that this was my last visit, because he is dismissing me as a patient. So if you tell someone the truth, then he gets offended and kicks you out, to silence you. This reminds me very much of Communist countries. By taking revenge on me, he trampled on my 1st Amendment free speech rights. Also, whenever he took blood from me, he NEVER found the right place to jab, so I ended up with blue blood bruises every time. He clearly doesn't know, how to take blood. Then his lab messed up my results twice in a row, so why does he work with such a lab at all? Maybe because no other lab wants such an unprofessional doctor. Dr. Ken is one of the rare MD and his knowledge of many areas , explanatory and careful to listen your questions, and impeccable attitude are all priceless! Office wait time is so little to nothing vs other visits I have done in my life many years . I even have different coverage which is not in his network , but want to see him at least a year. I live right next to Mt. Sinai Queens and what seems to be a million smaller Mt. Sinai-affiliated practices. After horrible experiences at 3 of them, I decided to look outside of the network and found Dr. Truong on Yelp. As a millennial, the thought of having to use a phone to call someone is absolutely frightening. I was elated to find out that I could book my initial appointment with Dr. T online (via ZocDoc) and it was a breeze. PROS: - HIS BEDSIDE MANNER. It's friendly yet direct. Can you recall the last time a doctor cracked a smile at an appointment? - THE FACILITY. I wouldn't call it "boutique-y" but it's definitely a step up from the sterile waiting rooms you normally see. It's warm and inviting, with plenty of magazines to read as you wait, which brings me to my next point... - THE SHORT WAIT. You think you're going to get a chance to actually read those magazines? Doubt it, given how short the wait time generally is. - HE'S PURPOSEFUL. It seems as if every single doctor I went to gave me an unnecessary procedure or test for the sole reason of charging me extra. Dr. Truong hasn't done that. He's also really good with follow up. - APPOINTMENT TIMES. I generally hate leaving the office early or coming in late to accommodate inflexible doctor hours. I'm SO glad that I can get an appointment at 6pm on a weekday. - HIS CREDENTIALS. Roxanna L. hit it on the head regarding doctor credentials. I came based on the positive reviews. I left with a misdiagnosis that has resulted in surgery and ongoing painful rehab and physical therapy. I had to do green card medical exam. Many other doctors told me that they don't accept insurances or their prices are very high. Luckily, I found Vitastat, who accepted my insurance and their prices are very low. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Dr. Truong is very professional, smart and efficient. First visit I waited 30mins, second visit I waited 40 mins, and today I waited 1hr and 15mins. My appointment was at 5pm but he didn't get to me till 6:15 and he also took in walk ins when he was already delayed by an hour. I was mad but I didn't complain in the office because the guy before me waited an hour and a half. For a sick person over an hour late is painful and long. I had no choice this time because their office is so close to my apt but with an hour and 15mins I can go in to mahattan and back so I'll do that for now. Last visit when he came out to get me he applogized for the wait but it happened twice again. I think he just says that to avoid confrontation. I have visited Dr. Truoung twice so far. It was busy the first time, but empty the second time. There are a couple things I've noticed - 1) he speaks very quietly and fast, 2) he doesn't make eye-contact when speaking to you, 3) he rushes things in general idk why. He may not be the most thorough and caring doctor, but he's very honest and not money-hungry. He wouldn't recommend anything that's unnecessary for his profit. read more

Expedient and mediocre doctor. Entered the office and filled out a few pieces of paperwork. Doctor introduced himself and took my blood pressure with a weigh in and height check, felt like a MMA fighter. Afterwards we sat down and I explain to him my previous injuries due to an adventure at thrill seeking lifestyle. He was somewhat knowledgable but dismissive about my simple injuries. Recommended I see a few specialist and handed me some literature. If my co-pay was hire I would of asked for more but for 20 bucks and a quick checkup I can not complain. read more

The doctor did NOT rush me despite the 6 people in the waiting room, and allowed me to talk through each of my concerns. His approach is a mix of Western and holistic, which I really appreciated. My son and I go to Dr Truong at Vitastat medical in Astoria, NY My son is mentally challenged and was very fearful of doctors. Dr Truong changed that. Not only does he take good, thorough care of my son but he is friendly, patient and accepting of him. Dr Truong also takes good care of me. I feel he is thorough and investigates what needs to be investigated. I like him very much so does Adam. I think he is a very competent, good doctor. I'm feeling very torn about this place. Dr. Truong was pretty great. Definitely efficient, while still being thorough, during my annual physical exam and he had a very pleasant, zen, bedside manner. I left the office feeling calm and like we had accomplished something, even if it was only blood work. The reason I am writing this review however, is because I have been requesting the results of this blood work for 2.5 weeks now. I have been placed on hold immediately and repeatedly for long periods of time before being hung up on. I have also left several messages requesting a call back regarding this information. Alas, I have never been able to get in touch with anyone! Feeling pretty frustrated. I'm hoping this review will prompt some action on the part of Dr. Truong and/or his staff to get patients their results in a more timely manner. read more

Ken reminds me of me. I'm a professional in every sense of the word with great communication skills. When you speak to me I listen intently and may only interrupt when my ingrained expertise detects an opportunity to provide value. This was the feeling I had during my first visit. His goal was to leverage his knowledge while listening to me sound off my symptoms. I felt like we were both talking at the same frequency.
