Tl;dr: fine doctor, but terrible and unresponsive billing practice. Expect a $200 hold on your card for 7+ months I visited Peter Hon's NYC office on 1060 5th Ave ~7 months ago for a Proctoscopy exam. After my visit, I was charged $200 on my healthcare FSA card as a placeholder until his billing office negotiated with my insurance on the actual cost of the procedure. Under my UnitedHealthcare plan, I pay $30 co-pay for a visit, and 10% co-insurance for a specific procedure. I expected the cost to be much lower than $200, and for it to be resolved fairly quickly from my experiences with other medical providers. This was 7 months ago, on May 17, 2019 and I still have a $200 charge placed on my FSA card. Throughout the 7 months since, I have repeatedly reached out to Peter's billing office (MD Capital Advisors) to resolve this. Rachel (718-650-6086) and Lauren (718-650-6082) have been completely unhelpful in that time. Not only were they consistently unavailable during business hours, but when I was able to reach them, I was told that they sent my medical records to my insurance (and that they haven't heard back). I kept waiting and checking up every few weeks, all to the same response, leaving me in limbo. Ultimately, at the 5th month, I decided to call my insurance. United told me they didn't receive anything from the billing office. I decided to connect my insurance to Peter's office (is this my job?), and it turns out, Peter's billing office used the wrong fax number. I thought that was the end of my problem until I called again sometime last month, and of course I can't reach Rachel or Lauren, so I contact my insurance. Turns out, they did receive my medical records this time, but what was sent wasn't enough and they needed more information. Because they didn't pick up the phone, I was unaware of the status of when or if my more completed medical records will be sent. That same day, I personally sent Peter Hon a message (Peterkhon@yahoo.com) describing my frustrating situation, and as of today (12/1/19), a month later, he has not responded nor has the situation been resolved. At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't resolved by year-end. Is it too unrealistic to ask people to be at their jobs and know what's going on? Given the existing $200 charge on my limited healthcare FSA dollars, I had to pay after-tax dollars on other procedures because I ran out of time and pre-tax dollars. I don't plan to ever visit Peter's practice again due to his and his billing office's unresponsiveness to take care of his (former) patients. read more

Going to this surgeon felt like taking a bullet in the derriere and being left to deal on your own with no help afterwards. While you are still in major post surgery pain he cuts you off and treats you like an addict. Clearly the guy has no idea what he takes his patients through. He had no patience for questions. He seemed angry every time I saw him and had no respect for basic patient needs or even basic communication. This was the most horrible medical experience I have ever had. Buy the time i found a new surgeon I realized how poorly this doctor treated me. Borderline malpractice. Do yourself a favor and pick just about anybody else. read more

I was sent to Dr Hon for emergency outpatient surgery, and I was genuinely toxic and very sick. That day I had no idea what was going on, but he sliced and drained and then gave me his cell to follow up with updates.... I thought he was a caring doctor, boy was I wrong! I texted him an update (as per his request) and he literally called me back to scold me and berate me "what was the point of this update? Why don't you just come now I TOLD you i was free at 3...." and on and on. It was 2:54, and I was so shocked and thrown off I said something like "uhhh sorry doctor I can't get there in 6 minutes. Sorry to bother you." He went on to yell something like "NO IM TELLING YOU I CARE ABOUT YOU, AREN'T I DOING A GOOD JOB OF TAKING OF YOU?!". I was weak and sick and started to cry and hung up. What an a**hole. I'm gonna call his office from now on and maybe see if I can make an appt with one of his colleagues for post-op. This guy may be smart, but I swear his lack of EQ makes me wonder if he may be on the spectrum.... read more

Dr. Hon needs to listen to his patients from the onset and realize we know our bodies best. He refused to order a cat scan for me even though I was sure my intestine had burst. He only ordered it after I refused surgery unless one was done. His attitude changed dramatically afterward - he realized he had screwed up. While he did save my life, things would not have been so dire had he just listened to me in the first place. He is pompous, condescending, and rude. Stay away. read more
