There's plenty of room for various activities; a jog/run, baseball, a cookout, etc. Although I do not live in this area, I did go to high school nearby. Pretty with several choices of activities as well as walking trails, but very crowded and people dont always follow good etiquette. The park has tennis, handball, basketball and pickle ball courts. It also has several baseball diamonds ans areas to play crickett. The main issue is that many park patrons are inconsiderate of others, which doesnt work in a crowded park. For example, there are signs saying that dogs have to be kept on leashes, so the owners let their dogs run free without holding onto the leashes. My kid is scared of dogs, and when I ask pet parents to please hold onto their dogs' leashes they ignore my request. Also there is a bike path that is off-limits to motorized vehicles, but people ride their motor bikes there at very fast speeds. Park patrons need to be more considerate and park rules need to be enforced. read more

Hiked around Marine Park on Sunday morning. A nice location, but the park isn't well taken care of. Quality: Marine Park contains both a standard park and a nature preserve. We spent the morning hiking long the trails in the salt marsh. While there were positive elements, such as the water views and the city in the distance, the overgrown paths, burnt out vehicles, and piles of trash hurt the experience. Quantity: The park is more than 500 acres with miles of paths. Value: Free to visit. Ambiance: Marine Park is located in Brooklyn, close to the ocean. The park is pretty large and split into two sections. The first is a more traditional park with different grassy areas and sports fields. The second larger area is the salt marsh that runs along a creek and out to the water. It includes multiple paths that wind to a small beach at the far end. If it was better maintained it would be a nice place to take a stroll. Crowd: A few people at the beach and a few others fishing just off the trails. The sports fields across the way were pretty busy on Sunday morning. Service: The trails were a disaster, tons of garbage and overgrown. Parking: Plenty of parking near the park. read more

I've been going to this park for the past few years and I feel like the quality of the park has dropped off recently. Unfortunately, a lot of the dog owners do not pick up after their dogs, making me need to watch my step in the grass. The rest of the park is relatively clean though. Along with Sunset Park, this is one of my favorite park views during the fall/winter. One of the handball courts needs repairing, but the other courts feel and look great! read more

We were visiting a friend and of course wanted to find a park we can go hunt for some Pokémon so we figured why not go to Marine Park as they were also near Uncle Louie G, which we wanted to try out. It's a pretty huge park where you can definitely get your steps in so I highly approve. I only gave it three stars because I really did not enjoy all the bugs smacking me in the face in the trail we went into. So much so I ran to get out of the trail. The view with the water is beautiful though. I will have to make sure to bring bug spray if we ever come back here. At least the boyfriend was lucky enough to catch a shiny so it wasn't a complete waste of a trip and we very much enjoyed our Uncle Louie G ices. Next time we may stick to just doing the whole lap around the area where the fields are. read more

I have Jack Russell terrier and they are super energetic, I'm really glad we have this park in our area so she can throw her energy out somewhere. A nice place to run around in circles (literally, because jogging), to walk around in the morning and to bring your dog here. I also have a special bond with the salt marsh where it is sunny enough to sit and have deep, philosophical thoughts or just thoughts about what to eat for lunch. You can also go "exploring" if it's your first time here but I'd wait until some of the greenery grows back first. And be careful if you go to the beach area because if you go in too deep, you might find most of your leg sunk deep into the mushy lands (it has happened to my friend and it was hilarious for me, but not so great for her cause the smell wasn't too pleasant). And sometimes, at the beach, you can spot little crabbies. And maybe catch one or two. read more

Beautiful park with bike track, and running track. There are places to have a private or group picnic. You could also have a larger picnic or wedding (over 20 people) if you get a permit from the Parks Department (call 311). There are places to play cricket and bocce as well as basketball and handball courts. There is a Community space in the park in the round building between Madison Place and Marine Parkway off Fillmore Street. This building is used for voting as well. There is a playground just as you enter from Fillmore to the right of Madison Place. On the corner of Fillmore and Stuart Street is Marine Park Intermediate School. There is a parking lot for the park on the Avenue U side near East 34th Street. There are benches and shade trees throughout the park. On the other side of the park on Avenue U near East 36th Street there is a Nature Center which describes the area around the park and some of the wildlife that is present. There is also another playground on Avenue U near East 37th Street. Also, dogs can be walked off leash before 9 am inside the park (not on the streets). Be sure to have a bag to clean up after them. NYC has leash laws. Marine Park was a wonderful place to grow up nearby. read more

I've lived in Brooklyn for almost 30 years and have not utilized my time in this park like I should have until recently. I moved 15 mins away from the park and now come here at least once a week. The park is great for biking, jogging, walking, or running as it has a circle lane that runs .84 miles. The inside of the circle has a huge grass field where you can play soccer, football, baseball, softball, or just run around with your dog. There are also hand ball courts, tennis courts, basketball courts and a some playgrounds. Many people bring their dogs to the park. One of the better parks in South Brooklyn. read more

Came here on memorial day with my wife to have some fun. First of all, it was a nice neighborhood and there are a lot of activities to do. Plenty of parking. On this particular outing we tried their paddle boats. The attendant was friendly and prices are reasonable. A good alternative to central park. Paddle boats were a little beaten up but still good condition. Saw some jellyfishes in the water. Had a really good time but the down side is there is no shade on the water to shield you from the burning sun. Overall, this is a great park and big. Probably can spend a big portion of the day here. Next time probably going to try their bike rental. They got a good bike path to operate their surrey. Looks like fun. read more

I grew up around this area, so it was easily accessible and I came here almost about everyday to go running, biking, and workout. Yes, I said workout, they monkey bars, a bench where you can workout your abs, and bars so you can do dips. Marine park offers a lot of open space, great for numerous activities like running, jogging, walking, dog walking, baseball, basketball, Frisbee throwing, cricket, biking, rollerblading handball, tennis, and picnicking just to name a few activities. Parking is plentiful on the street and the park also have a parking lot area. I really like that they have 2 different loops around the park, the inner loop is intended for people biking and rollerblading. The loop outside is intended for people jogging and walking. They have enough benches throughout the park. If you live in Brooklyn you should definitely visit Marine Park at least once. Also right across the street on Avenue U there's a creek and a nice walk path. If you try the walk path, I would definitely recommend that you don't go alone, go with a few people. read more

Love this park! Jogging around 1 time is .84 mile outer and .81 inner circle. You can bring your dog. There are bicycles for rent. Baseball fields and racquet courts. There are a lot of pot holes. I wish someone can pave the treks. read more

Great park that's slowly improving. I enjoy more of the east portion of it, by the nature center. There you can really escape from the city life and unwind. Only downside at the moment is the rehabilitation of the salt marshes, which for a good year now restricts access to the entire nature trail past the green bridge. But still love the park and its seasonal views. read more

Marine Park is a major hub of the South Brooklyn area. It's not the most fantastic park you'll ever see, but it's definitely a retreat from the cars and buildings. It's pretty safe too, even at night. I wouldn't go wandering around parks at night as a general rule, but there aren't really any "Marine Park Stabbings" I can ever remember hearing about. 6-8AM: Free reign unofficial dog-run. The locals bring their dogs to the middle of the park, and they're allowed to run around off the leash until 8AM. Past that dogs have to be on leashes, but there are always a few owners who ignore that rule (usually they're the ones who don't bother cleaning up after their dogs as well). There are two playgrounds in the area. The first is on Filmore Avenue, and the second is on Avenue U closer to 33rd Street. They were recently refurbished in the last decade (complete with sprinklers!), and whomever designed them probably went a liiiittle overboard with the "nature" theme. But they're still fun and pleasing to look at, so I'm not complaining. The only thing that freaks me out a little is the gigantic snake in the playground closer to 33rd. I have no problem with snakes, but I can definitely see that thing scaring the crap out of some poor kid and scarring him for life. Ah well. There are two ~mile-long tracks (bike/blade and walking/running), several baseball fields around the inner grassy area, and a few cricket grounds (yes, they play cricket here - a LOT). The outer grassy area boasts a few cruddy exercise bars and things, which are in serious need of a cleaning and de-rusting. Near the playground on Fillmore are a bunch of basketball, Bocce, tennis, and handball courts. There's something for everyone, basically. The circus makes a stop at the main park during the summer for about a week, so make sure to check that out and inhale the lovely odors while they last. Beware during migration season however. This place is a MAJOR stop-off for the 50 gazillion freaking geese that fly south over the area, and good lord do they lay waste to the fields. (Check out the photos for some shots.) It's kinda fun to chase them around though, and watch them fly everywhere in swarms. If you're not afraid of running through goose-poo or getting shat on from above, that is. The park itself runs from Filmore Avenue to Avenue U going North-South, and Stuart Street to East 33rd Street going East-West. South of Avenue U is the Gerritsen Creek inlet and the Marine Park Environmental Center, which is an adventure in itself. The Environmental Center is a relatively new addition to the park in the last decade. They cleaned up the whole area (which was formerly all man-high swamp reeds and rusty, abandoned car skeletons), and build a great little nature observatory right on the edge of the inlet which houses a little museum of local flora and fauna. They even have activity days and nature walks (check the schedule on the door for event times). The nature walk itself (the entrance is to the left of the main building) is open to anyone at any time though, which is a HUGE plus for locals looking for a bit of peace and quiet. Once you make your way into the winding path, you become so immersed in the trees, reeds, and awesomeness of the place that it's easy to forget you're in a city in the first place. It's a great place to meditate, walk your dog, or bring a date for a quiet romantic stroll to watch the swans, pheasants, and other cool wild animals in the area. Oh, and make sure to stop by the park itself in the fall. The colorful trees around the tracks make for a fantastic view. I very highly recommend reading up on Wiki or elsewhere on the history of both Marine Park and Gerritsen Creek. (They used to be a Native American burial ground and a farmer's mill, respectively.) It's fascinating stuff, and you may just appreciate the area a little bit more afterwards. read more

Nothing to add other than the following... - Most Inner Running Loop = 7/8 Mile - Loop Outside Most Inner Loop = 9/10 Mile - Sidewalk Perimeter Around Park = 1.5 Miles - Tennis Courts = 15 (the ones on the far right are worn) - Basketball Courts, Scrubs play near the school. Ballers play on the north end. - Baseball / Softball Fields = Permits required. But if no one's around, feel free to work on your fielding - Cricket Players = They've been there for more than a decade. Same people, same uniforms. - Park Condition = Ok! Not too worn and not in immaculate condition. It's just right for Brooklyn Marine Park is where I can be found to conduct my endurance training. The sidewalk perimeter of the park offers a length 1.5 mile loop that challenges it's runners by providing intense wind and little distraction with the surroundings. The long and narrow streets makes runners want to quit, as all they see ahead of them is another turn to yet another long and narrow street. Of course, for those willing, this is a great run. For the record, I don't play tennis here. There's very little competition at the park with NTRP players around 4.5. read more

Last time I was at Marine Park, there were several games of cricket being played. Plus ten cool points for you, Marine Park. I am super into bike riding, and into plopping my tired ass down in the middle of one of the many green spaces in Brooklyn for a recharge. A couple weeks ago, a colleague invited me to his softball game (surrisly, is there anything more Amurrikan?) here, so I rode my bike early on a Sunday morning to Marine Park from BedStuy. One thing that's cool about this place is that because of its location between Mill Basin and Sheepshead Bay, it has that salty-cool air feel, and so it really feels like you're getting away. The park itself is a good size. Along with the several cricket fields, there are a ton of softball fields, which was hilarious, because my colleague told me his team would be the ones "with the blue jerseys." I rode around searching the 20+ baseball diamonds for his team... at least 60% of the Sunday morning players were in blue jerseys!! *shakes fist in the air* I finally found him and settled under a tree to watch the game. I have been back a couple times since, usually on my way to/from Brighton Beach or another park (Fort Tilden!). Marine Park is a cute neighborhood park that makes you feel.... well, neighborhoody. It almost makes me wanna be a 50s housewife if you know what I mean. Grill up some hot dogs, put the kids in the Buick and go Sunday driving... ya know. That kinda thing. I recently moved to this neighborhood and this park is definitely the main attraction! Huge open space to do just about any outdoor activity, including picnics, baseball, football, handball, tennis, bocce, bike riding, basketball and so much more! I use the space to go for jogs when the weather is nice, and there's a community center that's used for seniors to do zumba and many other activities! There's also a big playground for the kids and plenty of seats all around the area to just sit and enjoy the beauty of the area. 2014 could be a good year for Marine Park with extra funding set to go into effect that will bring some improvements to the bocce, handball and tennis courts plus so much more. It's nice to have a getaway so close to home that lets you temporarily escape the city life and just take a breath of fresh air. read more

I live in the area and this is a great park. There are two tracks that circle the park. The outer ring is for running and walking and the inner ring is for cyclist. It's about 0.8 mile per lap. I come here regularly to run a couple of miles. On the inside of the ring, you have softball and a wide open area for other activities. The park also has basketball courts and tennis courts. It's not overcrowded so you can usually get a court with no problem. They also finished building the community center near the outer ring so there also a bathroom now. This is definitely one of the larger and nicer parks in Brooklyn. read more

I know people who bring healthy 3-4 feet, long lasting trees the day after Christmas. This place has a market during every national Holiday so you can get those last minute gifts for your loved ones. 2nd Part: Small aquatic museum. Hiking trails with visible wildlife. Excellent amenities: 15 courts, 8 half-courts with walls, 1 .81mi running & cycling loop, 6 fenced basketball courts with 3 more part of larger blacktop area, 1 large playground with 4 permanent playsets, a water play area with nozzles built into the ground, 2 bocce lanes, generous many softball/baseball fields, many football fields, newly rebuilt community center with spacious bathrooms & meeting space, etc. Excellent safety. Monkey bars & loose exercise stands are on the outer lawn. A vendor Marine Park Rentals offers bike/kayak/jeep/tandem rentals daily. B44+ bus plies Ave U through the park middle. The wildlife/nature center on the southern edge & its model airplane takeoff strip on the far southern edge near Gerritsen Beach are unknown even to many locals. Open salt marsh allows for tons of hiking & water sports. NYPD patrols the loop itself with a vehicle & Parks Dept is highly visible on sight through the weekends, evidence of this park's excellent upkeep. Tennis permit attendant has a poor, acidic attitude so avoid her as much as possible. read more

I took Frank for a walk through this place. He interacted with most of the dogs there, but the smaller dogs (shih-tzus, chihuahuas, and poodle-mixes) seemed to have a problem with him. There were numerous basketball and tennis courts there. It was a cool Saturday afternoon, the sun was shining, and families were roaming about the park. Some kids were playing baseball on the fields; thesound of a bat hitting the ball into right center field was the harbinger of the warmth of May. Haven't been there in a long time but used to get together with extended family and friends on summer weekends, it is a great place to play some games and stay somewhat fit. Safe and clean, and they used to have a circus camped out in the spring. The area is also nice, a commercial strip nearby on Kings Highway to pick up stuff. If you live nearby or have family/friends in the area, recommended for a get together during warm weather. read more
