Eventually I learned that every patient, like myself, was accompanied by their driver. As patients were taken back, the driver was told to wait in their car and that they would be called when the person they accompanied was ready for discharge. The waiting area cleared out quickly. Michael, my nurse, was super efficient and knowledgeable, friendly and reassuring. He never acted rushed or impatient, even as I rambled about nothing at all (probably I was nervous). The procedure staff was also friendly and efficient, seeming to make my comfort and relaxation their chief priority. My doctor, Alok Gupta, talked with me prior to my entering the twilight zone. Conscious sedation is what the anesthesia is called. But unconscious sedation might be more accurate. I remember saying "ow" a couple of times, but absolutely nothing else until Michael brought me the bag of my clothes and said he'd walk me out when I was ready. My daughter was already inside and waiting for me. The after procedure notes were extensive, and clearly understandable. If you need an endoscopy or colonoscopy, I recommend you make sure your doctor will be able to send you here.

I'm a complete medical wimp with - I'm embarrassed to admit - vasovagal tendencies (needles sometimes make me pass out). Fortunately, EVERYONE here with whom I dealt was competent, compassionate, informative, and exceedingly personable/friendly. From the check-in person to the nurses (Julie, Stephanie, Lindsay) to the anesthesiologist to Dr. Diaz, my procedure was thoroughly bearable. With something like 15 surgeries under my belt I've met more than a few medical teams! When the appointment is booked you receive an email with very comprehensive instructions, medical history forms and consent forms that can be filled in online, printed out and completed to be brought with you or you can arrive a few minutes earlier for help with the forms. if you have unique concerns they are addressed patiently and repetitively if needs be up to and including your arrival. I never felt rushed. No one was impatient. They have very apparently never lost sight of the fact that this is not your favourite way to pass a few hours! Everything on the health history was run through again. Everyone introduced themselves and explained their part in the procedure. I was very effectively put to sleep and I woke up about 90 minutes later feeling very fine and not at all groggy, though you will not be allowed to drive yourself home. This is also explained several times. I expected to be sleepy for the rest of the day. I did not feel at all drowsy. My husband was briefed on their findings. He was issued a summary of the findings and a follow up appointment for me. I will certainly be returning when these procedures are scheduled to be done a few years in the future!
