I usually go to Council Opticians in Hamburg for my eye exam and they've always been great there…read more A couple years ago I had an issue that required an ophthalmologist and was recommended to ECVA. I called them and they made a same day appointment for me. I arrived there and checked in and waited TWO HOURS, while sitting right in from of the receptionists, watching people come and go. I thought maybe it was because I made a same day appointment, but there I overheard others talk about making a same day appointment for much later than me and they were called before me. Finally I went to the receptionist and it turns out she LOST my chart and that's why I wasn't called... didn't she wonder why I was sitting there for TWO HOURS (actual time- not an exaggeration). Finally, they brought me back and I saw the ophthalmologist who diagnosed me and treated me and set up a follow-up appointment for the next week. He asked if I wanted to do my regular eye exam then too and I agreed to it. He helped me with my issue and had me reschedule my eye exam with them for the next year so they can make sure everything was still okay with my issue. The next year comes and they have me see the optician, Dr Styn. I brought up the fact that I was there to follow-up on my issue the previous year. The assistant had no idea what I was talking about and didn't even bother to look into it until I kept pushing. When Dr. Styn came in, I brought it up with him too. He was dismissive of my concerns and ended up telling me that it was my own fault for having those issues because of my eye makeup! That's funny, because the previous year when I had it so bad I needed a steroid, I wasn't wearing makeup at ALL. We were still wearing masks at work and I wasn't really going elsewhere, so I just didn't bother. So tired of people in the medical field being dismissive of women when they have an issue. After the appointment, they automatically scheduled me for the next year. However, I called them a week later and cancelled it- and told the person on the phone that it was because of how dismissive Dr. Styn was. Yesterday and today I received an email and a text to "confirm" my appointment. That I cancelled a year ago. So, to sum this up: receptionist lost my chart and didn't notice I was sitting right in front of her for two hours. Receptionist (not necessarily the same one) did NOT cancel my appointment when I called a year ago as requested. Dr. Styn was completely dismissive of me. The only positive experience was the ophthalmologist I originally saw. He actually listened to me and examined me and knew that it was a case of something more than just "makeup". He listened to my needs and actually helped me. I am grateful for his assistance and wish I remembered his name.

Stay away from the optical department. They tried to make me glasses 4 times and failed each time…read more I asked for a refund and was refused. The manager is so bad she would not even call me. Take your money elsewhere.

My optometrist recommended Dr. Schlisserman for cataract evaluation. Dr. Bulas did the work up. She…read moretold me I had three very small Salzmann nodules - 2 in the right, 1 in the left. She then told me that I had an astigmatism I was probably born with, which could be corrected with laser surgery for an extra $2,100, which wouldn't be covered by insurance. Dr. Schlisserman can in and met with me very briefly. He told me that my cataract in the right eye was "very bad". He also said he could do nothing about the nodules, which were in the peripheral of my vision, because of their high recurrence rate. He said the most common complication was infection, so to get my cleaning and gardening done before the surgery. Immediately after the surgery I had a cloud of floaters in the top hemisphere of my vision. I informed the RR nurse, who told me that it was normal. When I got home, I Googled my symptom and found nothing. But I did find information on various iol lenses, which was never discussed with me, as well as monovision. The next day I met with both Dr. Schlisserman and Dr. Bulas. I told them about the floaters. Dr. Schlisserman claimed I came in with them. I said they were new. He then said, "What do you expect, it's surgery after all." I then asked, "What kind of lens do you put in my eye?" He said, "I gave you the best vision for someone over the age of 40." I pushed for an answer, which he responded with, I gave you a monofocal lens, which is the best vision for someone over the age of 40." I then asked him about my left eye. He replied with, "Maybe less is more." I responded, "Maybe it is." He then retorted with, "When you came in, you couldn't read the first line of the eye chart." I told him that not only I could, but I never needed glasses to drive, and I could prove it by showing my driver's license, which I recently renewed. Dr. Schlisserman walked out of the room, and I never saw him again. I canceled the surgery on my left eye. On follow-up, my optometrist sent me to a cornea specialist. It was there that I discovered my cataracts were mild and didn't even need surgery. My vision going into surgery was 20/40 in both eyes with correction 20/30, not the 20/50 both uncorrected and corrected as they claimed. As for my cataract being very bad, that wasn't the truth. My right eye was supposedly set at distance, instead it was now near sighted. This was the result of not taking into consideration the nodules that were creating an astigmatism, not something I was born with. The plan for my left eye was to do laser surgery and insert a toric lens. The toric lens was never discussed with me, also doing both procedures on an irregular astigmatism is never done. And the correct procedure would be to remove the nodules, which can be done in a way to prevent recurrence before cataract surgery. In addition, I had already developed PCO probably from the floating material in my eye. In the end, I was lied to and used. My vision was made worst by the surgery, not anywhere being given the best for someone over the age of 40. I wished I never went to Southtowns Eye Center and I especially wished I hadn't had Dr. Schlisserman operate on my eye.

I have been going to Doctor Schlisserman for as long as I can remember. I think he's a great doctor…read moreand knows his stuff. However the doctor referred me for cataract surgery but my physician would not give clearance until I cleared a couple of heal5 issues. I called his office to let him know and was told by his office staff 5at if I did not keep my scheduled appointments for the surgery the doctor would no longer be able to see me. I also asked if I could get a prescription for glasses until the health issues were cleared and I was happy to pay for the glasses because it would put less strain on my good eye and was told by his office staff that I could not have one. This was without even talking to the doctor. I understand that the doctor needs to have clerical help but should they be making medical decisions. They also made the decision to not let me see the doctor again without asking or explain to the doctor why I did not keep the scheduled cataract surgery. Should clerical staff be making these decisions? And I've lost a good doctor at a clerks discretion? I'd proceed with caution and be sure what these office workers are speaking on behalf of the doctor only after talking to him

I specifically mentioned that I wanted a routine eye exam, which is covered under my health insurance as a free visit. Instead they wanted to bill me as a new patient eye exam which is a different code which required me to pay $156 for a service that should have been covered by my insurance. Not to mention, I had lasik surgery 5 years ago and have perfectly healthy eyes so I didn't actually need an exam, just wanted to use my health insurance benefits and ended up paying out of pocket for nothing. I even requested the billing manager to resubmit a corrected claim and she refused. Not friendly at all, and you can find much better service somewhere else.

This new review corrects some grammar…read more This is the worst doctors office I have ever visited. I arrived 20 minutes early and I was told that I was outside of their policy for patient arrival. The waiting room was totally empty! However, the receptionist told me that I could wait in the waiting room even though I was early. I was not called on time (1:00PM) and had to wait. Once I was in the technician's office, the tech was very surly and rude and didn't believe some answers I gave to her questions. During the technician's portion of the exam, she was unable to complete the exam properly because of an equipment problem. Then I had to wait for a period of time for the doctor to arrive. When the exam started the doctor had a computer problem and had to get another computer...more equipment issues. The exam went OK up to the eye dilation. She put dilation drops in my eyes and told me I had to wait a bit. After 25 minutes she had not returned so I walked around the entire facility looking for her. All exam room doors were open but she was not to found! After a few" laps" I was told that she was with a different patient. Really!! At that point I got up and left the building. I had been at that facility for 90 minutes. I should have been suspicious about professionalism when I was told the practice required all patients to provide a credit card before they could see a patient and that they would keep the credit card on permanent file. Thank goodness I didn't give them my credit card when I checked in. I urge you to find a different practice. Read less

This practice has too many patients and inexperienced, incompetent providers who care nothing about the suffering of the patients. There are many other competent practices in the area, and if your life is at stake, you will not get the care you need here.
