Dr. Bruton is the best music teacher I have ever had in my life. I started taking voice lessons from him in my sophomore year of high school to prepare for the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All-State vocal auditions. However, he did much more than prepare me for these auditions. Under his instruction, I grew tremendously as a vocalist and as a person. He taught me vocal technique and musicianship through many easy-to-understand analogies and relevant exercises. He even taught me important life lessons that have shaped the person that I am today. The most important thing I learned from him is to not care about what other people think of me. I used to obsess over "fixing" my voice according to my judges' critiques. After the two amazing years that I studied under him, however, I finally set my soul free and allowed myself to sing the way I liked to sing. Dr. Bruton helped me find my inner storyteller; he taught me how to engage with the music through artistic choices. Thanks to Dr. Bruton, I got out of my shell and learned to commit emotionally every time I performed a piece. I will be forever grateful for everything that Dr. Bruton did for me. this is by far the best studio and instructor I have had for my daughter. She has studied under Dr. Briton for over 2 years now and what a difference! His approach is to teach each student individually. By this I mean, every person is different with different strengths and weaknesses. Zach is my first vocal coach and I've had 3 sessions with him so far. I've been singing recreationally for a few years and I've recording several songs, but I felt the need to hone my technique for live performances and longevity. I took lessons with Zach back when I was going to school at San Jacinto Main Campus. Wonderful person and an even greater teacher. Because of his patience, his understanding, his pushing to drive his students toward greatness, and use of proper vocal technique, I went from a 2.5 octave vocalist to 3 octaves in the course of two semesters! Dr. Bruton is an amazing voice instructor! Previously, I only had some "voice lessons" from being in the school choir during my younger days, yet he was perfectly able to meet me right where I was at - in my 40's with hardly any practice singing. I had him for a semster at san jac and had some things happening at the same time and he was very patient with me while still trying to get me to do my best.
