Terrible customer service . Went in for drumsticks the worker noticed the sticks weren't in its normal but stated they had plenty somewhere. He told me to give him a sec. I waited and waited but he never got back with me. So nice I seen him doing other projects after he finished some. I asked hey did you ever see about the sticks. He then moves from computer to computer saying they somewhere here. And walks off only to start another project. Never once asked for help from other or just check the back where they probably was. I've been producing music for over 10 years and the guitar centre team helped me with all my needs, I was looking for a new guitar for a music project My buddy and I are working on. They asked me a few questions and tailored me the best guitar for my needs and not the best guitar that could make commission on which I really appreciated! Usually I spend more than an hour at stores like this because there is so much to look at, but when you get approached and helped by the right people that know what they are talking about, that's when one store is different than the others. I've been a GC customer for years. Historically, I've always loved the Van Ness, SF location but that changed when I moved to Houston. GC is a great corporate music store - it's not a Mom-N-Pop place by any means but the staff at GC Westheimer is personable and informative while allowing us space to play and browse. After years of wind, brass, and percussion instruments, I was ready this holiday to invest in my first classical guitar. I spent every other day at GC Westheimer for what felt like a month trying out guitar after guitar in the showroom. Darian and his crew were and are SUPER DUPER helpful - never once hurried me as I battered them with question after question. I finally decided on a Cordoba Gypsy King but it was in their Denver, CO location. Beyond the accommodating bad-assness of the staff, the store itself is a very stimulating experience. There are sound rooms for drums and guitars so you can truly try out (almost interruption free) the equipment before you purchase. While we could all go online search for better prices on new and used equipment, there is NO SUBSTITUTE for testing the exact drum/guitar/keyboard/whatever you will be taking home with you. FURTHER, not a dime in the world can afford you the comfort of buying equipment from knowledgeable people that you know and trust. I have the utmost respect for this crew and their opinion - in my opinion, this location is a total WIN - product you love from people you trust. After buying instruments and visiting the one at fountains. I visited this location to buy a saxophone and I had not expected any good customer service especially after my fountains experiences. But i must say I was amazed, every staff member I spoke to was so helpful, polite, professional and I must say they were at their very best. Especially GENE who helped me buy, he was so polite and helpful in answering all my questions and even showing me the used inventory. I went here for the first time and was amazed at how the people here went out of the way to help me. Having only the display model they called around until they found a new one, ordered it for me and had it in in a couple of days, then called me to let me know it was in. The manager (who treated me so nice) and sales person worked with me to allow me to use the display in the interim. I already am planning a return for another item. Thanks to all, Sidney and David were my sales people but others helped as well. They make a fun place to shop even more pleasurable. Observation note: When looking at one star reviews I not only read the review, I also look at the person's rating profile. If they have a large percentage of low ratings perhaps they are not easily pleased. Having been a store proprietor myself I understand why some things are done the way they are. In some cases it is clear that the person complaining is not very understanding of the situation at hand. I try to put myself in the other persons place to get a better perspective. NOT REALLY A MUSIC STORE..MORE LIKE A BUS STATION! Clueless and passing the buck downstream all day long.. Called this hot mess of a store no less than 6 times trying to get basic info on an instrument. Several calls in and.... Know one knows anything about it. They cant give me an impression of the sound,feel of the piece ...nothing.. So ..5 calls in and 2 days later and no info about the piece.. Call again(call 6) and ask for a manager and dont get the store mgr but an assistant who says "hey"the guys right behind me who knows about the piece.. So.. On hold.. The guy picks up and just says "hello"....dead air.. So i say..Did you speak with the previous person about my questions? The guy.. Yes...(Dead air).. 2 days of calls no call back and this is what I'm hearing..? I said :" look if you know the questions I have why cant you just answer the questions? He replies.. " im Not used to people addressing me this way but uuuh yeah I can tell you about"and then he laughs in my face.. This is what the world has come to.. This is why the rest of the world thinks we are idiots. This is also why Guitar center in falling at a screaming pace into bankruptcy. This guy had plenty of attitude but zero customer service ability.. David was rude and disrespectful and was more concerned with being a smart ass than answering a customers questions and thats what people like him and employees at this store location specialize in.. Your question doesn't mean a thing even with cash in hand but what does mean something to them is acting like a hipster coward over the phone and throwing my business and the chance of me sending any of my colleagues,students or studio contacts into that store to even use the bathroom right out the window.. Avoid this location like the plague and speaking with the store manager about this horrible employee confirmed why this place is such a mess and 6 phone calls leads to no answers about the gear followed by attitude and still no answers.. David wasn't about customer service at all or the 6 calls with no call back and the store manager knew nothing about the gear as well yet had plenty to say about his key holder like for some reason that absolved the guy of his cocky attitude. Customers come last here and soon with nonsense like this and employees like these two they wont come there at all soon and that's probably for the best. Pathetic... Guitar Center has my vote. I purchased a guitar here in January and had to bring it back due to some technical issues as well as the turner stopped working. They did not ask a question took it right away to the tech on site and he got the guitar working great. Quickly replaced the tuner and I was on my way. Service was excellent. I highly recommend and will use them when I go buy my base. O surprisingly there was eye-candy! I noticed them in the parking lot so I thought they were waiting for their dude. Totally wrong! They came in the store looking to purchase instruments and yes definitely some eye candy! read more

Not very impressed lately. The salesperson helping us the last two visits was stoic and absent frequently. One time they get into a dispute of whose customer because I was ready to pay but he wasn't around. A manager was called 3 times for a price match adjustment. No one came after awhile. The sales guy had to physically grab one. "Yes, we price match!" except ... when you show Amazon Prime. It's not eligible because it is subsidized pricing. WHAT?! Where'd you pull that out of? Tell that to Best Buy that sees it the other way around. Because independent seller can sell cheaper without heavy overhead. Not to mention. For the first time ever, we were told to stop playing drums because it's loud. LOL read more

So, I love guitars. I love the way they sound, the way they feel, the shiny little knobs and what nots on them. Its a damn shame though since I can't play the darn things! Yet, I have bought an amp, a cable and a 6 string here and every single time, I get good customer service and friendly sales people. They even suggested a smaller guitar for me since I'm not that tall and have smaller arms. They were spot on! every other guitar I liked was too big for me or weighed a ton!!! A nice light guitar is what the guitar hero/doctor prescribed for me. So, pray for me whilst I learn this alphabetic challenge of the guitar and learning to learn music all over again. I love Guitar Center! Last night I visited the local "GC" and it's pretty much the same as all the rest, AWESOME! If you have never been to a GC, you should know it's broken up into separate rooms which is a definite necessity because of how loud they let you rock out in this place. The main room when you walk in is all of the electric guitars and amps. They have separate rooms for acoustic guitars, DJ and lighting, pianos and key boards, drums and even a small special room where you can go to rock your socks off with anything you want. Whether its from a new Acoustic guitar to a new Mic stand! This place is fabulous for the music lover! DO NOT talk to the young kids in their who do NOT appreciate anything beyond their time. They are Inexperienced Retards.... I took my vintage guitar here to get it restored. I got a really nice vintage guitar from a friend who was going to throw it away. This thing is ancient. I would say at least 70 years old. I needed a simple guitar to start up a new hobby. What started out as a bad experience ended up being good one. I was completely heart broken when I brought in an old beautiful guitar and the YOUNG repair expert....(cough, cough.) Expert he is not! He told me the guitar was only good for an ornament piece on the wall. I was so sad when he said this, I almost felt my eyes watering. After a day of qualm, I came back to this Guitar Center to look for a new guitar. I spoke to an older gentleman in the acoustic guitar area. He gave me some advice on buying a new guitar. Then I mentioned my vintage guitar. He asked me the brand. He then said, "Those Regal guitars are really nice. Bring it in and let me look at it." The next day I came back with my vintage guitar and he played it. He was amazed at what it sounded like after strumming it. He told me that the guitar is still in decent shape and suggested I have it restore. He said that this would be a perfect beginners guitar for me. With a big grin on my face, he said I should talk to Mark in the repair center. Mark looked at the guitar and was impressed with the shape it was in. He said, "It just need a little work." I waited a week to have my vintage guitar back. Mark put a little loving in it and made it perfect again. All for under $100. Surprisingly, I went to eBay and pulled up what these vintage Regal guitar sells for. Most of them never met their reserve over $500. One of the Regal guitars sold for over $1500. This is an age old lesson that is timeless. "Never send a boy to do a man's job." Talk to Mark at the repair center. He knows more about repairs then any of the young bucks in there. So I started a new hobby....yeah strumming the fine new strings of my Regal guitar to produce the sweet hums.....I can't seem to stop strumming this vintage baby. I am loving it! read more

The only reason for the one star is bad customer service and possibly even worse management. On a night where my father and I planned on purchasing a beginner drum set for my five year old son, we were greeted with rude yet subtle attitude. Just some observations about my recent experience: 1. My father had to track down an employee for assistance. No one offered to help. 2. Unfortunately the set had to be ordered and my father was prepared to make a purchase. However the ridiculous shipping fee for an item that we had planned on picking up ourselves turned us away (more on policy rather than actual service even though shipping is free?!) 3. We even approached a second employee about purchasing the floor model, but was convinced to look elsewhere. Curiously we inquired about a possible discount since it was opened and possibly incomplete only to be met with what I would call a subtle rude attitude. He was "more than inclined" to help us out but failed to do so by telling to us come back for possible holiday deals. Certainly not the best sales tactic. I hate to complain but this experience rubbed me the wrong way as customer service and salesmanship seem to be a thing of the past. Why not up sell for a better set instead of telling us what we have to do?! And what's with this righteous attitude?! Hopefully this doesn't reflect badly on the company as a whole but one bad experience is sometimes all it takes. Instead of immediate termination for crappy experiences, I wish proper training could become a standard once again in an industry that is important for all ages. read more

First, I have to say, I went in with a very specific purpose. I wanted a ukulele. I was greeted and sent to the acoustic section (which I could curl up and sleep in because it's so calm and pretty) and was met by Gabriel. I told him I was a first time string player and wanted to accompany myself on an instrument and thought a ukulele would be a good starter. He first showed me a ukulele at the $200 price point and said it was a good starter and said this would not require me to reinvest once I choose to stick with it. I told him I wanted to go a little lower just because there was a chance I was not the next ZZ Top. He picked up a $99 ukulele and explained how it would suit me well. He taught me how to hold it and strum. I asked what else I would need to play and he said they sold chord charts, books, etc. but I could find all that online. I was so happy he didn't try to sell me everything in the store (at that point, I would have bought it). He offered me a new one out of the box and let me see it first to make sure I liked the wood as each is different. I was thrilled and he even said how gratifying it is to see a first timer pick out an instrument. Very pleased. read more

This Guitar Center is much better than the other ones I've been to in the Houston area. The sections always are clean, everything is out for display to try out, and generally get a good feeling coming to this store. As a Drummer, nothing is more annoying than going to a Guitar Center, and all the electric drums are tangled in wires making it worthless to try and play, and then having an in-house drum room kit that looks like it was ran over by 4 18-wheelers. Everything here is generally very spot on, and very spacious ( I was coming here before they changed the store layout). Customer service can still be somewhat awkward , where some of the staff seems to not notice you standing at the checkout for about 5 minutes, and the rest of the staff being very attentive, and happy to help. But this just seems to be a "thing" at all the guitar centers I've been to. I drive out here 25 minutes away rather than going to the Katy guitar center studio just because of the feel and presentation of the store, as well as the more professional attitudes of the staff. 4 stars, would give 5 if customer service was better or if the store was open all night to go play drums :D read more

Dear GC there is more to life than strats, teles, and les paul's.. I mean there are hundreds of guitars made, and all they stock is plain vanilla guitars. Pro audio is all romplers, not a real synthesizer in sight, zero drum machines, outboard gear is also a very paltry collection of odds and ends . The only thing they seemed to have a good selection of is guitar pedals, and cheap chinese made practice amps. Couldn't even find a decent set of wood brushes for the drums, this place has really fallen by the wayside. Generic bland, and no longer stocks anything for a professional musician. When the store moved to it's new location it's really gone to the pits, selection is awful, prices are way over MSRP, and the employees are all delta bravos. read more

This was not my first visit to Guitar Center . . . over the years, my son has been interested in the keyboard, guitars, drums, sheet music, etc. But I was about to drop a lot of cash and wanted to make sure I had the right equipment. Steve and Justin helped us out in the store. They were very knowledgeable and patient. Steve showed me a variety of items that I may or may not need and we talked about what exactly each thing did. OK. I have a love hate relationship with Guitar Center. I really love to hate it when I have to buy supplies for my stage show. I went to look for a laser because my show needed a cool "Fricken' Laser". OK. So I need to go into the HELL that is the D.J. room. Invariably there is some idiot in there blaring some god freaking awful music much louder than it needs to be. Music so bad store security should be involved. OK after standing around for 5 minutes someone approaches me and asks me what I'm looking for. A "Fricken' Laser" I reply. "Well, we only have one in stock" and the "sales" person walked me over to a shelf display with four lasers. We look at the "fricken' laser" and the guy can only get it to partially work. Certainly not very impressive. I ask questions and get half-answers. Frustrated I left without making a purchase and worst of all I left with no "fricken laser". This isn't the first time. The time before I was purchasing around $1500 worth of equipment and basically spent 30 minutes waiting someone to help me. "I'll be right iwth you was the mantra". Eventually I was walking out fricken angry and ran into a manager who personally rang up my order. Don't get me wrong. The guys in the drum section, they're great. But god help you if you want to buy lighting effects because I have yet to find one knowledgeable person who could actively and adequately help me make a purchase from guitar center. There's never enough sales people and the sales people they do have don't understand the technology they sell. Meanwhile some poser stands at the turntables and produces a racket that would wake the dead and then re-kill them. Even in the drum center they make the idiots that loiter all day play the electronic kits while wearing headphones. Why the do they have all the turntables hooked up to the sound system so these daft punks can produce enough noise to get Helen Keller's attention? Will I go back to Guitar Center? Yes. Absolute garbage store with even worse management. After deciding on a $4000 les paul the authenticity of my payment method was repeatedly questioned by the manager (who was quite standoffish and rude). I presented multiple viable payment options to this guy, who at no point offered any advice or methods to which I could bring the instrument home with me that day. It's as if he didn't want to sell this guitar to me for whatever reason. After a solid hour of back and fourth BS with this jerk, I decided to walk away from the situation and cut this unprofessional jerk out of the deal. So I log into guitar center's website and purchase the instrument with the "pick up in store today". At this point I think it's absurd the lengths I've had to go through to conduct business with these people. I approach the counter where the guitar has been sitting packed up for me the entire time to inform the manager that I've purchased it without his assistance. This dude tries telling me that there is a delay in the "available for pickup today" option and I would have to wait 2-3 days. At this point I'm not sure how I've remained composed. My 87 year old great grandmother is forced to do damage control and drop $4000 on HER credit card. Embarrassing. Long story short, I had to pay for the same guitar TWO TIMES and they still seemed hesitant to let me walk out with my property. Here I am hours later and I also have yet to receive a refund for the online transaction or a confirmation email. Horrible, horrible, experience. I wouldn't even recommend wiping my butt clean in this store. read more
