He had a turkey club and I had a turkey avocado sandwich on multigrain. For sides we had cucumber salad, potato salad, and mac & cheese. A word of surprise, the potato salad is served warm, but it was really tasty. The only disappointment was the mac & cheese, which was grainy and soup-like with very overcooked noodles in it. Such a cute, cozy place. It was like stepping into a warm cafe in another land. I started with a seasonal latte that had hints of toasted marshmallows, cinnamon, and pumpkin. Followed by a Monte Cristo. The bread was so light and fluffy. The saltiness of the meat with the sweetness of the bread and sugar with a little spread of raspberry preserves delighted the tastebuds. The side of fruit was large and seasonally appropriate. You order at the counter, where I think the owner was taking the orders and the accent definitely sounded authentic German like the name of the restaurant. She was lovely. Everything is made fresh so sit back and relax and the dining area is designed perfect for that with couches, cozy chairs and comfortable seats at the tables. I looked up what the name means: "Drachenfutter" is also a term used to describe gifts or treats that someone might bring home for their significant other when they feel guilty about coming home late or drunk. The service was outstanding from the hostess Mandi and my breakfast was excellent, the fruit was crisp (like I like it) with some sort of fruit juice. Cranberry Turkey sandwich was AMAZING! I almost changed the bread from cinnamon raisin to a white or wheat bread because I didn't really think it sounded good but it was really good! The quality of the turkey itself was high! Better than any other restaurant. I also loved the cucumber salad. I removed one star for the blueberry muffin and banana scone. We were passing thru Waynesville about lunch time and stopped here and I am so glad we did! It was delicious! We both had a version of a turkey sandwich and I had the Ms Drake coffee. It's hard to miss quietly tucked away in Waynesville great cozy spot with a German background makes everything made in house and good quality products. Ordered the seasonal pumpkin latte and the German pancakes with a corn beef hash. The food and service were outstanding the workers are very kind and helpful. Small businesses like these are great because they take their time and out their love into it. We came in here on a whim driving through to get back home. It looked unique and we wanted to give it a try. I'm SO glad we did. They had plenty of seating inside, we were helped almost immediately. Their pastry selection, coffee selection, and food selection were top notch. I didn't expect such a great menu! We were very surprised and pleased. Customer service was really, really great, and the service at our table was amazing. We had someone checking in on us pretty often even though it's a counter order/seat yourself spot. I got the seasonal blueberry chai which was fresh, flavorful, and delicious. I also got the veggie croissant which WOW. What a great fresh, tasty breakfast filled with greens. We would definitely be regulars if we lived in the area. His mocha came out quickly. He said it was authentic tasting - not too bitter and not too chocolatey. My drink came out the same time as the food; which was shortly after he got his mocha. I got a tea flight of 4 loose leaf teas from their wide selection. They said there were more options not listed if I didn't see four I wanted to try. (The posted list was a good selection of black, herbal, and white teas.) The only detractor is the side salad. The salad itself was a handful of mixed greens (underwhelming) that did not stay on the plate. I did get a vinaigrette to go with it but I didn't try it. The greens were fresh and I ate the ones that didn't fall off the plate (maybe 3/4?). A separate plate or bowl would have been helpful to toss it in the dressing or just eat it without being as much of a mess. All in all, a very minor detractor. read more

I don't know if I ever would have come across this little gem if it weren't for our cancelled flight! The coffee is okay. My friend got the banana chocolate cake / bread. It too was more dry than expected, didn't have enough banana flavor and too many chocolate chips. I saw the owner bring out cooked breakfast food for another couple. I must have missed that option. I don't see a breakfast menu anywhere. I would have preferred that. A disabled US veteran of mine tried to enter and be served at this establishment with his highly trained and skilled service dog. Mind you, this man and his dog are well known educators on the laws and rights of the disabled and their service dogs. Not one, not two, but THREE employees essentially bullied him out of the restaurant, claiming only 'legally blind' disabled people could enter with a service dog. Not only were they incorrect, and therefore illegally discriminatory----this veteran was humiliated and embarrassed. And now on Facebook, the owner is back pedaling. Passing through Missouri along 44 East in the town of Waynesville we stopped at a quaint little cafe. The environment is cozy, yet trendy. The food was freshly prepared and very tasty. We all 3 ordered Mary's chicken salad sandwich, it was a generous portion of chicken salad on a fresh croissant. We also all had their flavorful ice teas, 2 of us had the peach tea sweetened and it was delicious the Black tea was also terrific. The staff was pleasant, courtesies and helpful. The kitchen runs out of food which to me is a sign of freshly bought supplies. The staff was courteous, the dining room was clean. You must walk up to the counter to order, they will bring your food to the table and bus it for you. We are not lucky eaters; we like flavor and are not afraid to try new things. Way overpriced for the the quality and quantity of what you're getting for coffee drinks. I got a Iced macchiato that was almost all foam. Maybe its their own twist on things but I wasn't inspecting that much foam in a macchiato. 3 sips and it was gone. There was also only one shot of expresso that i could hardly taste with foam milk for $12. Don't know why i was charged this much since the menu shows Macchiato as $4 but Im definitely not coming here again. The Ruben is good though. read more
