With crunchy chicken and a soft, fluffy bun in every bite. Also comes with tomato, lettuce, and Mayo. Brooklyn Chinatown needs more bakeries like this little treasure along 8th Avenue. Most of the bakeries along the street are so-so at best, but this one is easily one of the best. Prices are reasonable, service is prompt, and the selection is fresh and full of variety. The egg tarts are usually pretty good and the buns are good. My favorite items are usually their cakes and while small for American standards, just perfect for Chinese tastes. However, I have to say that coming here after 2PM may result in a lot of the items tasting very average. Best time to come here is during the daytime and possibly on the weekend when they're busiest. Unlike the rest of the baked goods, the cakes are good to buy during anytime of the day and are great for virtually any occasion. read more

I usually bring pastries when I visit my family in Brooklyn so often I stop by the local bakery with a simple selection of buns and cakes. On a whim I decided to surprise the family today with a large assortment of pastries only because I happen to stop to admire their poster of cakes on their window. A couple of reasons I stopped- Pretty pictures of cakes on the window. (drooling factor) Their door is wide open so I can look inside. (Quick attention grabber) Their display cases and floor are clean! (Good eye candy) Their windows and sign are clean; someone care enough to clean them (Ok I'm anal.) They do have a good selection pasteries and it can rival the Chinatown & Flushing bakeries. The prices are reasonable and only about 10 cents higher on some items. So they give me two of these and two of those and a couple of that too. My family was impressed and I'm in good with my mother; for this week. I like this place so I will be back soon. read more

Whenever my family visits my grandparents who live in Brooklyn, we always pick up Chinese baked goods here. Delicious bread and pastries. We found a iron wire in the taro bread and called back to the store. The person who worked there were extremely rude and the service was really bad. They didn't even apologize for that. Can you imagine how dangerous it would be if it got stuck in the throat for kids? The hygiene in the store is also terrible and not recommended for the people who live around in that area. I was given a box of egg custard tarts that looked pretty okay, but the flavor was definitely lacking. It was a little mushy, and the crust itself was very wet and did not complement well. I'm not much of a fan of egg tarts to begin with, but I think there are better versions out there. Dragon Bay Bakery offers a variety of Chinese buns and pastries for your everyday type of breakfast or afternoon snack. The buns are affordable, they are now at least 90 cents each depending on what you have selected. As a regular and longtime customer to this bakery, I personally recommend the egg tart (they changed them to crispy!), the Hot Dog Bun (early morning bunch is the best!), and the mini pineapple buns with melted butter. I have noticed that they started to be produce more innovative/experimental varieties that I have not tried yet. This gives me a chance to keep going back to try new things! If you are visiting relatives or friends, bring over some Almond cookies or the flaky Butterfly cookies! They are delicious! Add some hot milk tea, hot horlick, or hot coffee to go along with it! The cookies and drinks make a great combination for a relaxing afternoon tea party. The milk tea is offered in 3 versions: regular milk tea, Hong Kong style milk tea, and Coffee/Milk Tea combo. Watermelon Ice, is by far my favorite cold drink, however, only offered during the hot summer seasons. My family have order birthday cakes here quite often - whenever we have a birthday in the family. The prices are very fair for how big the cake is. They have a photo album of different cartoon characters or different looks of the fruit cake. The cake is nice and soft filled with fruits and cream between 2 layers. You may order the birthday cake at least 5 hours before your pick up time and they will always have it there, ready for pick up guaranteed but always ask the ladies behind the counter before you order. The bakery does get super loud and super crowded. There is no formation of a line in there especially during busy hours. To pay, you just have to find an empty spot at the counter and place your food there. This is definitely something, they should work on especially I have seen customers getting mad about being skipped by the person behind them. Why 5 Stars? It's a bakery that will grow on you. That homely feeling that it gives you when your parents bring you home a bakery bun. The aroma of the hot drinks will make you feel like you can relax and just enjoy. I came here for dessert. The taro bun was pretty decent, but the cream bun was just sugary. I also wasn't really into the tapioca tea, which was too much tapioca - though the coconut wasn't overly sweet, which was good. The people helping us with our order were a bit abrupt and not particularly friendly. I know most Chinese bakeries make the same type of cake (chiffon) but I don't know why I was so fussy about finding a good bakery. I guess since it was for my grandma, I wanted the best for her. Lots of selection for all tastes. The coffee has always been decent. The fresh buns have a friendly young woman to package the buns for you. That appeals to my cynical self who imagines people picking through and sneezing on the selection when they serve themselves. It's incredibly affordable: 70 cents or 60 cents for most buns. I can't vouch for the meat-eater items, but the red bean pancakes are good and sweet and the sesame balls are perfect for a nosh. The vegetable roll is really cabbage and two slivers of carrot, but it's still tasty. I labeled the store location on where the location opened up. Very distinctive awnings for the store front. Bakery 3- 59th Street -Depends on time to be crowded Bakery 2 -54th Street -Also depended on time to be crowded. Bakery 1- 56th Street - always crowded What prompted this update. Well I was in the 54th location today, and they didn't have one of my favorite butter rolls.. so I do have to say - that with this bakery having a big monopoly on 8th Ave's bakery business... let's just say that there are three chefs, so as identical locations are... they might not have the baked goods you want. Also another criticism.. they don't label the drinks in the fridge.. so I am always not really fond of that. How can I know if they overcharge a customer on that? read more

Don't underestimate this bakery! Despite deceiving cheap prices, their food is quite filling. So filling I couldn't finish all that I had ordered. I bought a sugary donut, a lemon cake/pastry(?), and a red bean pancake all under $3. The sugary donut is exactly what it sounds like, sugary. A bit too sugary, but I only bought it as my gf told me to get it. The red bean pancake was a bit too dry for my taste, but for some reason I suspect they're meant to be that way. The lemon pastry was good, no doubt. But I was already full from the first two and I couldn't continue. Traditional Chinese fare, we got: walnut cookies, lao pao bing ("old lady patty", a sweet and soft patty with filling-ours was coconut based), sesame paste ball, pineapple bun. The packaged stuff you can grab yourself, but if you want any of the fresh items you will need the shop worker to grab them with the tongs for you. Everything was delicious and affordable. Great place to stock up on snacks and go picnic at the park or grab a quick sandwich bun for lunch. My Mandarin-speaking friend did the purchasing, so not sure if anyone spoke English but did not overhear any. Might need to rely on pointing or a Mandarin speaker to navigate. read more
