Dragon Bay has a whole lot of stores in 8th avenue. I think they have around 5 or so spread out the blocks between 40th st to 65th st. I like their elephant ear cookies they sell with all the other packaged baked goods the most! I always come here specifically for those darn cookies! They're so good! The bread and pastries are all good and fresh. Their hot milk tea is really good, their coffee has a great strong flavor as well. My mother enjoys Chinese bakery coffee specifically for their strong flavor. The bubble tea is too sweet in my opinion. I find it hard to drink unless I dilute with a bit more tea. The prices are a bit high considering all the other prices of breads in nearby bakeries, but I guess the quality and flavor make my extra cents worth it. Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! This review is dedicated mainly for the latest leading mooncakes; these attractive in favor snow skin/icey mooncakes. Their snow skin mooncakes are gross. The mochi skin is thick, mushy, and extremely OILY. The fillings are too overly sweet. $23 for four of these icey mooncakes that are going to the garbage now. How disappointing. read more

Probably my favorite Chinese bakery on this stretch (of which, there are MANY). They always have fresh buns and pastries coming out of the back, and they have a good cold drinks menu (cheap too). They have a better bread selection than a lot of other places, and they usually stay stocked til late afternoon, which is nice. Get the red bean ice shake and ask for them to blend it. It costs more (I think a quarter), but it's well worth it! read more

I've been here a couple times to pick up pastries for breakfast. I've never looked at the menu behind the cashwrap - I'm only ever here for the bread. I haven't tried any of the meat ones yet, but the taro, coconut, and red bean buns have all been delicious and very fresh. Their egg tarts are pretty good too, though a bit too sweet for my tastes. You'll have to point out which pastries you want - you can't grab them yourself, which is inefficient and kind of annoying. Two cups of coffee please. My coffee stop in the morning whenever I'm down at Brooklyn with the boyfriend. Can't say much about it since I drop in for only coffee but my boyfriend says the pastries are decent. Really, his words can't really be too accountable since he usually only gets the cocktail bun with coconut filling, or the whipped butter cream bun. But at least it's fresh. According to the boyfriend, you know the pastries are fresh when they don't plastic wrap it. So which is why he usually gets pastries and buns that are not plastic-wrapped. It might not sound so sanitary but hey he's been eating it every morning on his way to work so I think he knows what he's talking about. CON: They got a C from the health department! :( Makes me really re-think about going in, but I'm just getting coffee for myself, and if my boyfriend doesn't mind it, whatevers then. read more

This is my favorite Chinese bakery in Brooklyn. When I stayed in Brooklyn I went there every morning, where the bread was so fresh and super delicious. I also really enjoyed their egg tarts. In my opinion, Chinese bakeries in Brooklyn are definitely better than the ones in Manhattan. I'd definitely return! read more

Typical Chinese bakery. The coffee here is good and the saltly hot dog wrapped with the buttery croissant is just straight delicious.

Good place to come early for a pastry, if you come later in the afternoon gets really pack and it's hard to find a seat for a quick lunch. Prolly one of the cleaner looking bakeries in the area. read more

Best bakery in Brooklyn, in my opinion. One of the things I like about them is that I see baked goods that I've never seen in other Asian bakeries before. And trust me, being chinese, you'd probably guess I've been to *a lot* of bakeries in my life time. The good: - sesame pancake bread (it looks like bing, with sesame seeds studded on the outside with a sticky sweet filling on the inside) - pineapple bread (this is a must for me in every bakery, and this one's pretty decent. crumb falls off easily so make sure to press down on it before eating) - Cheese and ham bread (only if it's fresh, while the cheese is still melty) - lemon custard bread (this used to be a favorite, but the lemon curd is too rich and sweet for me now. It's popular among my family. Flaky pastry surrounds molten lemon-y goodness) - Garlic and scallion bread (buttery with a pleasant garlic-y saltiness) - Pork king (pork floss, lettuce, and mayo wrapped in soft bread-- used to be bigger but they're not so much worth the price now) - Wife cookie (winter melon filling surrounded by flaky pastry) - Pineapple cookie (it looks like the pineapple bread crumb but it's just all crumb...without the bread-- buttery and delicious) - Sponge cake (they're nice and soft) - bread sushi - baked char siu bao (generous char siu filling) The bad: - egg tarts (they're a bit on the burnt times sometimes) - the drinks (basil seed drinks are too sweet, drinks are overpriced in general) - french toast (each bite is unbearably oily) - mini wheat rolls (dry and dense) - ham and egg (egg is just a solid unnatural patty of weirdness, one slice of flavorless ham) - plain salty bun (called piggie bun in chinese), its one noted saltiness was boring and unenjoyable. I couldn't finish my bun, despite my hunger. It's crowded most of the time, so I wouldn't suggest eating there, since there old ladies that park themselves down with a cup of milk tea for hours and hours. Wow, on this beautifully rainy day my friends wouldn't come out to play or eat. Headed to 8th avenue for my local Asian crawl. After soup and dumplings. And then a little bit of Simon's BBQ squid and beef. Lets have desert. Thanks God the old smelly men who smoke and hog the seats had departed the premises. Sometimes I feel like screaming immigration and wave a badge just to get a seat. Motherfuckers run when I do that, seriously. So I had the Birds Nest, Almond Cake and a cup of coffee. My coffee has to be black and sweet. Some amazing deserts, soft and fluffy. Not sweet at all and just the right portion size. It was for less than $5. Coffee was decent. on this rare occasion of having a cup. I am highly critical of coffee as I can drink a cup before bedtime and fall asleep comfortably. Overall nice place for some desert on a rainy day. read more

Dragon Bay Bakery is, as far as I can tell, the Panera of Chinatown. If you're new to this whole business of eating unidentifiable foods, and want a little reassurance, these bakeries, which appear every few blocks or so on 8th Avenue in Brooklyn's Chinatown, are the easy choice. Well-lit, apparently clean, and with just the right amount of weird being pumped in by the Day-Glo Chinese music videos on the flat-screen TV, Dragon Bay has the absolute advantage of printing everything in English. You can feel adventurous by ordering something you've never had before, and still feel confident that you know what it is, to a certain extent. Steamed buns with a variety of sweet or savory fillings (including hot dogs!) ran about ninety cents. Recommended: the coconut creme bun was sweet bread just filled with buttery light creme. Delicious. The meat bun was savory and the sweet bread contrasted nicely with the salty meat, but it was fried, like a roti, unlike the steamed buns. read more

Practically everything in this place is $0.90- $2. You can't beat that! They have what you would typically find at Chinese Bakeries. Nothing really out of the ordinary. I do recommend getting the Dried Pork Bun that has a omelette around it. read more

Most of the time their stuff is pretty good, but this time I have to say they disappoint me. I ordered a birthday cake for my son's birthday there. I specifically told them I wanted a mango pudding cake, with the spiderman character on it. What I got instead was a jello cake, and a character that looked nothing like spiderman!! This get better, the jello tasted watered down and had loogan fruit in there. I confronted the owner about it. He told me that's how their cake is made. I will never order another cake from this place again. If you can't make something that the customer requested, then tell them so and not subsituted with whatever that you think is okay. read more

Great for rush orders! We were able to pick a bday cake design and wait half hour for the cake. $61 for 10" cake. It tasted good and fresh with a nice variety of fresh fruit. However, Taipan Bakery is still my favorite..taipan cake is really light and fluffy whereas dragon bay tasted much heavier. read more
