The mango they used specifically on this day, tasted very old , it had no mango taste and tasted a little foul. ($7 wasted). The egg tart was hot and fresh but their 8th ave location is definitely better. This location is bigger, with a lot more seating. Everything I've had from here has been delicious. They also have a really spacious cafe seating inside that I've yet to utilize but plan to try at some point for when I need to get some work done. I haven't been to this bakery for years ever since the incident in one of their store "forgetting" my order. I have not been back here since the pandemic but stumbled upon here to give it another shot. I don't know why I always do this because I get disappointed every single time. This time was no exception. The first sign of disappointment was their lack of selection. I came here at 2:30pm so it was not remotely close to closing time but their shelves and glass case were very empty. I understand if this was near their closing time but this was not the case. I don't think they bake their breads on their premises but get it delivered from one main location or a commercial kitchen somewhere. They also downsized their menu by a lot which to me makes their bakery less appealing. The second major disappointment I had was they shrunk their size of the buns. The buns they serve on their pans were now halved in size but cost $3.75. The only upside about it was the buns were very tasty. I got the coconut buns in a pan and they were very good. If I had to rate it, I would give this a 7.5 out of 10. They still had their Portuguese tarts. The custard part was way too sweet and too mushy and watery from what I remember but after the disappointments, I didn't even want to give those a second try. I did see them put a sign up to explain the price increase as due to the rising cost of eggs. Even if that was the case, the first disappointment of lack of food in store during business hours still stands. While the buns were yummy, the cost did not justify it for me. Bakery has lots of to go classics, bubble tea, and (of course) egg tarts. I had the Portuguese egg tart. It's a bigger tart with generous amount of sweet custard filling. A nice sear and it was served hot. The filling was one of the best that I've had. It's a hefty amount that might sep into the crust a little making it soft and greasy. Lily Bloom Bakery is definitely one of the most popular bakeries in NYC among Cantonese group and their signature egg tart is a must-try. It's owned by the same owner of Xin Fa Bakery, which we visited a while ago. The decor is bright, clean and modern with proper safety procedure during the pandemic. The options were not in a great variety but pretty decent and we had 2 pastries and a box of egg tarts. The egg tarts were delicious and it's filling was super creamy & soft like the sweet version of steamed egg with thin & crispy layer. However, the 2 pastries we got weren't good, plain with fragile texture. We might visit again if we are in the neighborhood but only for the egg tarts. This place has great dessert. They have decently priced bubble tea (compared to Bing Ling tea nearby) that tastes just perfect, and $1.50 baked pork buns that are perfectly sweet inside. I was in the area for dinner and passed by Lily Bloom. I decided to go in and ask if there were egg tarts left as I know the Lily Bloom on 86th street are known for their egg tarts. Unfortunately, they were sold out. I looked around the cafe and saw that they have rose milk tea, something that's different from other Chinese bakeries. I decided to give it a go because a large is only $2.50. As much as I wanted to like it, I really couldn't because I know exactly the rose milk tea bags they are using. And I have a box left at home because I can't stand how fruity it is. They're using the '3:15pm' Rose Fruity Milk Tea. They might've added in some sugar, but it's not that good if you expected some good rose milk tea. A box of these is probably around the same price as 1-2 cups of these here. Not worth it when I can make it myself at home. They also added a few rose buds/petals on top of the milk tea. It's a bad idea because it just gets in the way of drink the milk tea itself. You end up having rose petals in your mouth and you don't know what to do with it. The decor and cafe itself are really cute, especially compared to their other location. They have innovative desserts and bread. This location seems to be catered more towards the younger generations and reminds me of Korean cafes. They offer free wifi and tons of comfortable seating in the back. I'll come back for their egg tarts and maybe try their food, but not for their rose milk tea. read more

They also have an assortment of teas, coffees, and smoothies! Saw some Hong Kong classics. My family's favorite thing to get is their Portuguese tarts. Instead of grabbing the items that you want off the shelves, now you have to tell the employees what you want and they'll bag and prepare it for you. I come here for their egg tarts, but there are other Chinese pastries and baked goods available. I came during the middle of the day and to my surprise, the egg tarts were very fresh and warm. They're reasonably priced too: I bought 6 for $9. The crust is similar to other Chinese egg tarts and it's flaky and light. "Grand Opening Sale: 15% off" the sign caught my attention. I have a Lily Bloom Bakery near my house. When my friend told me they opened one near her, I was intrigued. I went in and the woman with the clamp came up to me "how can I help you?" in Cantonese. Now, I quickly scan the baked goods section and I pointed to the tarts. I asked in English "how much?" She gave me the perplex look. Then, I said "$1.25?" Then, she proceeded to look through her cards with the prices. When I asked for 3 of them, she put them in these wax paper bags. I, then, asked how many do I have to buy to put it in a box? She told me "6." I ended up buying 3 for $3.19 which included the 15% discount. I love how clean this facility​ looks. The server and cashier were very friendly and welcoming. I would love to get this kind of service from the 86th Street and Bay Parkway location. The Portuguese​ tarts were warm and creamy. These are the biggest egg tarts I've ever seen. And filled with a really generous amount of filling. Nice and creamy center. The shell is not as flaky as I would prefer, but the flavorful and generous filling makes up for it. Most people say its best eaten hot, but I actually prefer eating it cold or the next day, after the filling has time to solidify and become more flavorful. I find the fresh hot out of the oven ones to be too light in flavor and the filling too liquidy. But to each, their own preference. This chinese bakery has the usual large variety of different buns and cakes but I've only tried the egg tarts and they are amazing. Come here and get these! Order a whole bunch because you will be craving them later. Share with friends! Actually you may not want to share after tasting how good they are. lol. I just can't say enough good things about these egg tarts! Final note: The bakery is usually jam packed with people during popular hours, so it can be a bit crazy in there. Lily bloom is a great spot for chinese bakery goods. I love that they have joong or the sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf. It's so good! When I buy it and it happens to still be warm, I'm tempted to just open it and bite into it. People generally come in for the Portuguese egg tarts because Lily Bloom does not make regular egg tarts. However, their Portuguese egg tarts are definitely worth the hype. I've heard that people generally have to place an order for 6 otherwise the Portuguese egg tarts gets sold out before they can buy it. However, that's not always the case. If you buy a Portuguese egg tart and it's cold, bring it home to bake in the oven for a little bit and it will be worth it. It's a strong egg and butter taste and tastes way better hot than it does cold. People also come here for the mango pomelo sago in a light bulb container. It's not as good as some dessert places, but it holds its own. I do enjoy it though. read more
