Since the remodel, everything is much cleaner and the food, which was already good, is even better. Don't let the lower score discourage you from trying it - it got a lot of 1-stars from back in the day when it was very much a takeout joint that happened to have a dine-in space and it was treated as such. Now it has a more interesting menu that includes really good sushi and a more pan-Asian vibe. I suspect but can't confirm that the management of the restaurant has passed to the children of the original owners. The noodle dishes are all great- lo mein, Singapore noodles, Mei Fun, with your choice of proteins. All the standards - chow mein, kung pao, general tsos, sweet and sour chicken, szechuan chicken, pepper steak - are well-balanced, flavorful and reflect fresh ingredients and care in preparation. I encourage you to go outside of the usual American Chinese selections and try things more off the beaten path. Doordash menu is huge, also, which I love - most Chinese places can make twice as many things as are on the regular menu if you know what you're after, and its good that a lot of variations are available there. However, my experience was great! I ordered over the phone, the girl was happy and assured me that my order would be ready in 10 min I arrived and it was waiting for me! I asked if they had gluten free soy sauce (expecting the no I usually get) but to my surprise ALL of their soy sauce packets are labeled gluten free! The moo goo gi pan was very good! But the main was scezauan beef with fried rice. I got i guess scezauan beef, the sauce was something I've never had with this entry, it was some redish orange oily stuff. Im thinking just a crazy amount of scezauan oil. Also the meat was very low quality cut. Oh yes the rice was a couple days older than day old rice. Which I actually like. Favorite Chinese place in Delaware. I typically get the Bean Curd dish and every time it has been loaded with tofu and good veggies. Tofu must be pressed before, it holds sauce really well and flavor is really good. Huge portions too, I rarely save leftovers and always have enough for lunch next day with their dinner portion. One note--menu PDF on website is about ~$1 less per item than it should be, the online ordering portal has the correct prices. Would definitely recommend any dish I have tried here before (pad Thai, Szechuan or general Tso chicken, and moo goo gai pan). Also, place takeaway order a bit earlier than you think especially on weekends, it estimates 15 min for food to be ready but give a half hour, it is still food that needs time. read more

I really wanted to give them five stars since the food was so delicious we inhaled it before I could take pictures. However, one of the items I ordered was not what I expected. I was really craving walnut shrimp, you know, that lightly battered, crispy fired shrimp, with the creamy white sauce, well that's not what I got. Their version of a walnut shrimp is heavily battered and covered in what seems more like a red sesame or sweet and sour sauce. Don't get me wrong, it still tasted good, I was just really disappointed I didn't get what I was expecting. Other than that the rest of the food was spot on. We ordered a chicken fried rice, shrimp fried rice, crab Rangoon, and pit stickers. Actually, I didn't much care for the pit stickers either, the texture was a bit off. Dragon House is the closest Chinese restaurant to our home, so due to proximity, we started going when we moved in 2 years ago. Since then, we've probably ordered carryout a dozen or so times. The food is always good and fresh, I'd say it's on par with most chinese carryout restaurants I've been to. The inside was lacking, but since their recent remodeling, it feels much nicer on the inside. Very clean and bright. With their remodel they added sushi to their menu and today was our first time trying it. My husband and I love sushi but have not found any near our house that we consistently order. That changed today! I got the red dragon roll and my husband got a California roll and shrimp tempura roll. All were so fresh and delicious. I'm looking forward to getting sushi here again! Some other items we like to order are orange chicken, pork fried rice, pad Thai, and shrimp and string beans. This place is so dirty. The tables were awful with crusted on food. Asked the lady working to clean one for us, she sprayed it with disinfectant (good to kill the germs, but did nothing to remove the crusty food...and it was everywhere). My forearms were sticking to the table. Food for dine in served on styrofoam plates every time (yes we gave it multiple chances). Bathrooms are AWFUL. Decor is dirty, dusty, outdated. Boxes of sauce packets, fortune cookies, To go containers, and other supplies are stacked in the dining area. No drinks like tea or fountain, just a dirty cooler with three canned soda choices. Lysol spray and dirty rags out in clear sight. No music: DEAD quiet in there other than some weird loud recording that plays every time they get a to go order. And it's been this way for over a year: this isn't like a one time issue. And the food is edible if you're starving or inebriated in some way, but way below average, even for low quality cheap Chinese food. My friend was scared that the chicken probably wasn't chicken (iykyk). Food is served and you have to then ask for silverware (which is plastic forks). Unfortunately, this STILL seemed like the best Chinese in Delaware. I'll skip it or drive out of town next time. If you cannot provide an even remotely decent dine in experience, make this place take out only. Have a counter for ordering and some seats to wait at and never, ever let anyone actually expect to sit here and eat. Miserable. *one star for the counter lady who was nice enough. read more

Ate at Dragon House before going to the park. It's good for Chinese in Delaware. This place doesn't look like it would be any good. It's in a crappy strip mall, like many Chinese places are. They are better with the food and service. I had the Homestyle Bean Curd. It's about $8 for the only portion. They put lots of tofu in this. It was also well cooked. This isn't the squishy kind of tofu. It also came with some vegetables, including broccoli, mushrooms, and pea pods. On the side was a bowl with rice. The plate had so much it was hard to find room. In Delaware there aren't many options for Chinese. It's one of the few around. This luckily was good enough that it will do the next time. read more

First time trying this place a few days ago. I ordered online since i was getting the food for my lunch during a work week. I ordered at 10:45 am and it said 15-20 minutes. I arrived at around 11:10 am and two people had walked in off the street in front of me and ordered. I went to the counter and gave them my phone number guessing it would be ready since it was now almost 11:15. it wasn't. I had to wait longer and the two people in front of me got their food before me, even though I ordered way ahead of time. I left at 11:30 and had minimal time to eat. I guess that was ok since the food was not good. I got chicken and broccoli and it was mostly all rice and huge chunks of broccoli and tad bit of chicken. it wasn't very good. Don't expect much more than a below average Chinese joint in a shopping complex. It's geared more towards take out and delivery, and even then it's pretty subpar. If you ask to be seated it's kind of a joke. Served on paper plates, plastic wear and high school type lunch trays. Absolutely no music, no vibe, and their food tasted like cleaner (I mean what I could taste after burning all of my taste buds off with the scolding hot, tasteless egg roll I ate). I felt more like a nuisance for asking to dine in than a customer. The fried rice was literally white rice saturated in soy sauce. Don't judge a book by it's cover... I almost turned around and walked back out of this tiny strip mall Chinese restaurant. Walking in I had noticed that the glass doors were all smudged up, there were tons of boxes stacked up along the back wall and the place was rather country looking for a Chinese restaurant. I did get a very friendly hello and welcome from the lady at the counter so I stayed. I'm glad I did.... What they lack in ambiance, they make up in good food, fair prices and pleasant service. The requisite Hot and Sour Soup was very good. It was thick and rich with plenty of peppery kick to it. I ordered the Vegetable Kung Pao without rice and got a pretty decent sized portion of steaming, fresh veggies with plenty of spicy sauce. I wouldn't call the dish excellent but I'd definitely say it was very good and it was very satisfying. The lady that waited on my was very nice and polite. The service was fast and the prices were very fair for what I got. I'd definitely go back again although I might bring them a bottle of Windex and some paper towels to clean those windows.... read more

I had went here last year and got the shrimp fried rice .. it was NOT de veined .. you could see the strip of brown shrimp poop around the outside of the shrimp .... I threw it away .. it was nasty and the shrimp wasn't the right color ... I decided to give this place another chance today and once again ordered the shrimp fried rice ... IT WAS THE SAME WAY. !!!! We began to order from Dragon House in early 2020, when our favorite restaurant went out of business due to COVID. The food was good, not great, but delivery was quick and their customer service good. Unfortunately, the last two meals have been awful. First, there was plastic in the food, which they blamed on new containers and refunded us for the meal. This week, the food was terrible. Both the sweet and sour pork and the orange beef consisted of tiny scraps of meat fried in huge wads of breading, and the orange beef had only three pieces of broccoli. Food is good and portions are large though the prices are a little expensive for Chinese takeout. A good variety to choose from on an extensive menu that includes appetizers, sides and even a kids menu. We ordered take-out and food was ready when promised, unfortunately the person behind the counter wasn't friendly at all. Let me say that the food here is pretty good. They actually use chicken breast for their lemon chicken (instead of deep fried chicken(?) blobs I've seen in other places, and everything is served hot and tasty. The rice is steamed just fine (no burnt or uncooked grains), and the egg roll is fried just right with no hard or undercooked edges. I really have no complaints about the food. Indeed, it's one of the better Chinese-American places I've been. The prices are also very reasonable. I am especially fond of the lunch specials that are even available on Saturday (11-3), where you can get a slightly smaller (but seriously, you don't need more) version of popular dinner entrees. Dinner sized portions meanwhile range from $7 for the basic noodles or rice to $13 for seafood filled platters. Most plates average out at about $9, though. This isn't super cheap but it is about average for most Chinese-American restaurants I've been to. They also go a little beyond the basic sweet and sour and have a few more unique dishes like mango or pineapple chicken. The restaurant is also clean and in good shape. The decor isn't particularly interesting to be sure - wood paneled walls straight out of my childhood with a few knick-knacks and Chinese lanterns. It's not a place to go for the ambience. The fake peach tree and peacock feathers at the door are a nice touch, though. So why the low number of stars? Well, as other reviewers have mentioned, the service is... well, it could use some work. Whenever I go, I usually end up standing at the desk for about 5 minutes before I finally head over to the kitchen where the staff are talking\arguing\yelling at\with each other. You can try tapping your feet, clearing your throat loudly, and even singing to yourself but you probably won't get their attention without actually going over and doing so right at the entry to the kitchen. Even then, I always get the feeling that they aren't thrilled to see me. Like I'm bothering them somehow. Things don't improve much if you take a seat. In fact, I think they would prefer you take your take out and go. Orders are taken curtly "What you want?" "Um, sweet and sour chicken?" "White or fried rice?" "Er, white..." "Egg roll or soup?" "Egg roll..." "Drink?" "Water..?" And that's it. I'm not adding or removing anything from a typical conversation. No "thank you" or "okay"... nothing. Not even a smile. Oh and don't ask what is in something. The response won't be very helpful. "What's in the kung-pao chicken?" "Peanut." ....yeah. That's helpful. I do understand that English is not the first language of the people who own the restaurant, and that's fine, but I'm sure that terms like "spicy" or " sweet" or "fried" - terms that are on the menu and basic English words - can be added to help give people a better idea of what they are ordering. "Peanut, little spicy, fried chicken" gets the idea across just fine without getting into grammatical technicalities. The hostess\server\chef(?) is also not particularly attentive. Though it doesn't cause me any problems usually (the glasses are very large so it's hard to run out of beverage), I never see the server except when taking my order, serving the food, and bringing\cashing the bill. No "how are things" or even just grabbing the glass to get a refill. Anyways, like I said. The food and prices are average to good, but I think this is a place you'll want to use primarily for carry out and avoid dining in. read more

Enjoy for leftovers at least once, maybe even twice. We ordered the sweet and sour chicken, which we decided was one of the best we've ever had. The sauce had so much flavor and the chicken's exterior was perfect. We also had an order of the vegetable lo mein which I did not try but my husband said it also was fresh and flavorful. I got a large wonton soup which I really enjoyed. I guess I received the red carpet service. OK - To be fair, there was a very polite, respectful young man who was manning the front desk and taking orders. I assume his mother is the server/hostess everyone who reviewed was talking about. She was overseeing what he was doing. There was only two people dining-in, but it was later in the evening. I ordered carryout for my daughter who is a big fan of orange chicken. The menu here indicated it was spicy, which is unusual for this type of place. Orange chicken is generally General Tso's without the spice and very little orange. I mentioned to my daughter that it was a spicy dish here, and the young man behind the counter said it would be no problem to make it without the spicy. The menu has a few differences than most places, there are some slightly unique versions of the same-old-same-old at other places. Prices are average. Several people came in for carryout who had ordered before hand and were taken care of quite quickly and efficiently. The young man told us 5-10 minutes for our meal. Whenever it comes out too fast I wonder how good it is going to be. This was more on the lines of 15 minutes, which is a good thing. It is enough time to do it right. While we were waiting Mom went over to the diners twice and checked on them. The chefs were talking in the back room, but not too loudly. The Orange Chicken actually had slices of orange in it. Very well done, the sauce was not too heavy, the chicken was indeed chicken breast properly cooked and the fried rice had a nice nutty flavor and wasn't over or undercooked. When we first moved to Delaware we discovered this little gem of a restaurant and would make the 15 minute drive across town (even though we live 2 minutes from Shanghai) to eat here. Food was amazing and staff was great. Then came an ownership change. Sadly, the food went from being amazing to being servicable. I'm very picky about seafood and saw a rapid decline in the quality of their shrimp and wouldn't order it. The service went from being personal and caring to being more along the lines of a bother. I like general tso's shrimp. I have ordered that from probably 30 different Chinese places over the years. This is the best I've ever had. I just moved to delaware so I can't say I have tried everything.... Just sweet and sour shrimp which was also good. From here on out it will be gen tso's shrimp on a weekly basis. read more
