Tried Dragon Palace in Victoria with high hopes and a hunger for comfort food classics. Unfortunately, the General Tso's chicken came up short -- soggy breading and not much kick. The chicken chow mein was passable but didn't exactly stir any cravings, and the egg rolls? More sog than crunch. Not the worst takeout I've had, but definitely not a palace-worthy feast either. Enjoyed lunch here and it was our first time. They have a lunch special and every day is a new menu. We started off with the egg drop soup and I must say it was the best I have ever tasted! We then enjoyed the fried chicken wings and shrimp stir fry. The food came quickly and our server was fantastic. She brought all the sauces and served our tea seeped and ready to drink. What they call fried rice was grossly over boiled crumbling rice that if it were to have any flavor at all it may have had a slight chance, but alas it did not! All four in our group, left hungry and disgusted, the only part of the entire visit that had a slight bit of flavor was the egg rolls that they clearly buy in frozen. The only thing we actually fully enjoyed at all, was leaving! We had been there before and the food was fairly decent, clearly those days have long past. I just moved from Houston, so I guess I'm spoiled, but this was the worst general tso's chicken I've ever had. But even worse customer service. They refused to take it off the bill. I asked for a soup to replace the general tso's but they would only exchange another chicken dish. Since the chicken I already tried was terrible I declined. I came in around lunch time. The room was huge with lots of open space and tables. I was seated immediately. There were a lot of patrons, and most of the tables were filled (~30 people total). I ordered Mongolian beef as usual. This wasn't a lunch special, but I was willing to try it out anyway because I've tasted plenty of Mongolian beef elsewhere and I wanted to compare it with the place here. I got steam rice on the side for flavor neutralization. The food came promptly, which was a surprise, given the amount of folks. I did notice that everyone else had the lunch special ($5.44 and you get an egg roll) with the pork fried rice, that made the rice orange colored! I don't know how they seasoned it, but I hadn't seen this before. I actually wanted to try it, but didn't get a chance as I had a half hour time constraint. Regardless, I had my entree, and I noticed it was rather plain in sight when it arrived. There were only two ingredients: beef and green onions. I did not see regular onions. I did not see traces of garlic. I did not see any peppers. It was seasoned, but lacking what I believe to be core ingredients for this dish. Mongolian Beef is typically served spicy, often times with the crunchy noodles (sorry I don't know what this is called, but it gives it a GREAT texture). Any exception to this will more than likely be subpar in my book! = / Such is the case here. read more

Ugh. This place was so depressing. Looking around there werent many options for Chinese in Victoria, so we decided to try our luck with Dragon Palace. Bad move. We placed an order for pick-up and it was ready within 15 minutes. Upon bringing it home we realized we had made a very bad gamble. Now, I am not super picky with Chinese food. As long as it is decent I can pretty well tolerate anything, but this was just not good in any way. All the vegetables seemed mushy and canned. The fried rice was bright orange and tasted of nothing. All the meat was really fatty and grisly. None of the dishes had much flavor or salt at all. How do you mess up fried rice? Anyway, I would usually give a place a second chance, but I dont think anything could save this place, sadly. read more

I grew up in Victoria, and this restaurant was my first experience with non-american food. I just went back after almost 15 years, and I was worried that it would not stand up to the nostalgia and new experiences with other foods. I was wrong! This place is delicious even as an adult! We just had some egg rolls and dumplings because we had a short time to eat, but the service was quick and polite, the entire restaurant was very clean, and the food was hearty and well priced. Best part is that I'm pretty sure the tiny gold fish I knew as a kid are the same carp-sized fish in the fish tank. If they can keep fish alive that long, you know the kitchen is well run and clean. read more

The Shrimp in lobster sauce contained canned mushrooms, soggy snow peas and tail-on gritty shrimp. Pleasant atmosphere, friendly and quick service. My husband ordered the Sweet & Sour Pork and I ordered the General Tos Chicken both from the lunch special section. The S&S Pork was dried out and appeared to be sort of dredged in flour then deep fried, it had an awful flavor of old oil. The General Tos chicken was the same as the pork but I couldn't really decide if it was actually chicken or not. The rice that came with the meal was an orange color and had the same oil taste. The waitress offered to replace my dish with another so I tried the Chicken wings and it was just as bad. We decided to just pay and leave hungry rather than suffer trough. I've eaten here for years because my family enjoys it. I do find the nuclear orange rice a bit odd, but the egg rolls taste so delicious! I'm not a fan of their fried chicken dishes. The pressed chicken is much better. They have really affordable lunch specials but I've found that the really good items are hidden in that fancy red menu. The vegetable lo mien is superb compared to the mediocre (but still tasty) specials. Also, the wonton soup is worth noting. The place did some remodeling a few years back which made it look a bit more inviting however they skipped the bathrooms so beware. I like to sit by the fish tank because I'm a dork. All the staff is really nice (surprisingly, after my racist family makes fun of their accents frequently...I swear I don't take part.) All in all, good place for Victoria standards. read more

Hands down best Chinese restaurant in Victoria. I got yelp so I could write this review. If you're expecting the high end atmosphere of a 5 star Michelin restaurant then check that shit at the door. The Palace may not have the bells and whistles of a PF Changs but they always have the best food and friendliest staff (lemon chicken is always a go to favorite.) I live in Houston but I was born and raised and still have family in Victoria. Whenever I'm in town this is definitely one of the spots we always go to. Walking in I found the decor pleasing and the lighting to fit the mood of a Chinese restaurant. The lady who served my party's table was very respectful and attentive to our drinks. The menu provided loads of options. On the back of the menu are daily specials for $5.95. I chose General Tao's chicken which was pleasing but drenched in sauce. The fried rice was bright orange-yellow and didn't have a strong flavor (which I prefer in rice. it's rice I don't want an overpowering flavor). I also ordered egg drop soup which was tasty. Our waitress put these lil bowls of strawberryish sauce on our table and we had no idea what to do with em. When no one was looking I snagged a piece of chicken on a nearby table that the group had left and tried it with the sauce. It wasn't bad but I still don't understand it's purpose. Overall this place is not high quality but has tasty food for a cheap price which is something I'm down for. read more
