The food was absolutely excellent--fresh, flavorful, well-prepared, and made with quality ingredients. You could tell a lot of care went into every plate, from the presentation to the taste. Solid 4 stars. Stopped in for lunch on our way through Victoria. It's in a cute little downtown location. I understand they split time with another restaurant, so there's a Cajun menu and the Water Well Cafe menu -- our family ordered from both. Across the board, everything was good. The Cajun menu looked great. Mexican chicken fried steak, ~$20 -- 100% worth ordering. I'd never had a Mexican chicken fried steak before -- it's basically a chicken fried steak, but it comes with an order of queso on the side. Something different and unique, and very, very good. Highly recommend it. The sides I had were the okra, tater tots and a roll, all above average. Bottom line, everything we had here was very good. We had a great experience at The Water Well Cafe in Victoria and would absolutely come back. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The staff were genuinely kind and attentive, which made a big impression on our whole family. We also appreciated the Christian decor throughout the restaurant and enjoyed learning that members of the team participate in an annual mission trip to Guatemala. There was even Christian merchandise available for purchase to help support those trips, which was a really meaningful touch. The food was just as good as the service. Our kids were very happy with the chicken nuggets and cheeseburgers--fair warning, the burgers are HUGE and come with a very generous portion of fries. Everything felt like classic comfort food done right. We also tried the chicken tenders, fried okra, and tater tots, and all of it was delicious. I ordered the hamburger steak plate with mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables, and it was flavorful, filling, and exactly what I was hoping for. The only "regret" we had was not ordering the onion rings--they looked incredible when we saw them come out for another table! My wife and I found the Water Well Cafe through their Yelp reviews, looking for a nice place for breakfast on the weekends. We found the service to be friendly, quick and excellent. Small example- we've been here three times including today. Asked for grape jelly for my toast last weekend. Didn't have to ask for it today. They remembered. It's the small things that go a long way. Food has been excellent on each visit, prices are quite reasonable. Will definitely be returning when in town. read more

Here today! The Water Well Cafe was recommended by one of the player's parents, we like recommendations! When a person recommends goods, services etc that's a business owners vision and my applaud to this business owner. The Water Well Cafe is a restaurant I'm sure will be handed down to generations to come, that's how memorable our experience AND meals were. My bus load of 30 female softball winners and their parents from Beaumont bombarded the restaurant unannounced. That was no problem for The Water Well Cafe as they were excited to have us because that's what country folks do, they be excited to have company. The restaurant sits in Victoria, Tx historical downtown, I'm assuming it's historic because it was given vintage vibes. They area also consisted of other restaurants and bars which was open but not allot of people because it's a small town. I dropped my passengers off and parked my motorcoach around the corner, as I was searching for a legal spot I noticed their Police Department so I made sure I paid attention to any and all posted signs. To my surprise, someone from the restaurant took the time to find me to make sure I found a good spot a block over. I return to the restaurant to discover my group waiting on me so we could all enter together, awww. Just kidding, because we dropped by unannounced there was a short wait to put our tables together and get ready for their out of town patrons. The waitresses took our orders by tables and numbers to ensure we received the correct order, she answered all our questions about our meal choices and to keep things simple offered not to up charge on specialty sides. The kids were given a budget on their meal and would have to pay out of pocket for the overage, NO PROBLEM said the restaurant. Do y'all place your order then change a side or the entire meal itself because of someone else choice? I/we did and then waitress was patient along with answering ALL our requests. You know how restaurants will have on their menus "No Sharing" not The Water Well Cafe; the waitress recommended those that order the chicken fried steak should lol. They appreciated that because there are restaurants that are butt farts about that. What was a lot of chitter chatter prior to receiving our order went to a quiet restaurant, I want to mention OUR DRINKS NEVER GOT EMPTY! Our orders arrived hot and no one had to send their orders back for corrections. The Water Well Cafe should be if not already a Tourist Attraction, the food was some good ole country cookin'! I would undoubtedly return while passing through along my travels AND recommended to others! Here today. There tomorrow! read more

What a wonderful place downtown Victoria. The waiter was very friendly and funny. The food was delicious . Mom had country fried chicken, the rest of us had country fried steak. I had the Mexican style country fried steak with Queso. It was great. Only problem I had was too much breading. Decorated very nicely for Christmas. Overall, I give this place a strong 4 stars. The food was hot and very tasty, the place is clean and very nice inside. I would definitely go back. I didn't give it five stars for the following reasons: first, the coffee isn't very good and I am a coffee snob. Had to add 2 creamers to get it close to the cinnamon brown color I like. Usually fresh coffee or good coffee doesn't need more than one creamer for me. Second, I ordered a plate with "tortillas" on the description but only got 1 regular sized one. Had to ask and PAY for another one. Why not say one tortilla on the description? If you order two eggs shouldn't you get two tortillas or two slices of bread? Was I being greedy? Who knows? But don't avoid this restaurant for those reasons, I'm sure they will eventually get more in line with what other restaurants do. read more

My amazing waitress which turn out also to be the owner was awesome. Jennifer you can tell truly loves her job. I ordered the Ribeye salad for lunch it was topped with a huge chunk of ribeye. The salad was not a bowl of wilted lettuce it was fresh greens, pepper, micro greens and was served with homemade ranch. This is a must eat. read more

We were very disappointed with our lunch today. First, the wait for our food was way too long. I had the Buffalo Ranch Chicken Sandwich and French Fries. I ordered the same sandwich last week and it was fantastic. It was made with a freshly battered fried chicken breast. Today appeared to be a frozen breaded chicken breast like you buy in a bag at HEB. It was nothing like the same order last week. My husband's burger was way overcooked and his French Fries were barely warm. I mentioned it to the cashier. She said sorry. That's it. We also were paying with a gift card. I asked for the balance to be given to our server. Not possible. Gift card has no cash value. I didn't want the cash back. I wanted to give it to our server. So I paid the tip with a credit card. It wasn't the server's fault. We received the same gift card back with the new balance on it. No plan to go back to use it. I really liked this place last week. Great place for breakfast! Coffee was really good, chicken and waffles and pancakes were great. They have a nice selection of traditional breakfast and Spanish breakfast too. Service was great! Our server was super nice, always checking on us. A real nice change from Ihop or Dennys. We like good breakfasts and this delivers. The store is nice, clean, and has a real artisan feel to it.
