My husband and I have been to pretty much every comic book shop in Omaha on the search to complete our Wolverine collection, and this Dragon's Lair was one that had a few we were looking for! This is a bit more for the tabletop gamer, as that's a lot of what they have now, but they did have a good selection of comics, just put away more than the games that take a lot of the display area. The comics were there but were more in drawers, and they had cute comic characters of each alphabetical letter drawer (like Wolverine on the W drawer). Very clever idea! Another cool thing is that a lot of the decor they have around the store is dragon-themed, sticking with their name of the Dragon's Lair. They also didn't have as many figurines and pops as a few other comic shops we've been to (though they do have a handful). They more have the gaming dice, Warhammer figurines, and games like Settler's of Catan etc. The staff was more helpful at this location vs. the one out on 144th and Center, where they kind of act annoyed when you want to actually buy something and they have to ring you up LOL So If you're looking for a new game or interested in collecting Warhammer figurines, this would be great for you. If you're on the hunt for a certain comic book, they may have that too, but it's not the main focus anymore like I remember it being when I was a kid. read more

I was fortunate to have visited Dragon's Lair Comics and Games. **Pros** + A wide variety of merchandise is available, from modern comics to vintage comics, graphic novels, action figures, role-playing games, trading card games, and Funko Pops. + The staff was helpful and kind enough to allow me the time I needed to complete my purchases, even though I went a bit past closing time. + Great prices on the goods sold here. This review comes to you from the early 1980's. My name is Mike and my brother Chris and I, along with our pal Jim used to shop here at least two times a week.Bob's bins were always loaded with expertly graded back issues. Behind the counter silver and golden age classics hung from the wall like Amazing Spider-Man 129 in near mint, a Tales of Suspense 39 and I think Bob even had a Batman 1 with all interior pages in tact but the cover was missing, but accompanied a xerox :-).... My brother Chris K was a favorite of Bob's. We all respected how Bob graded comics with more thought and preciseness then competitors. You knew you were getting what you paid for. I left in 1984 and my brother left Omaha in 1998 and sadly passed in 2006. I haven't been back to Omaha since 1993... was sorry to hear about the store burning down but hear the new location is pretty good. In 2023 I wonder is Bob still associated with the store? p.s we were there when the first boxs of Magic The Gathering arrived if you can imagine. Didn't have a crystal ball though or wouldn't have beat those cards to dust in tournaments. But that's exactly what they were made for. read more

I literally only read currently three comic books so I'm not a huge reader but dragons lair has a history of being the go to for comics in town. I've really only begun over reading these comics over the last three or four months and being this store is closest to me it works just fine. The guys working there all have been very helpful and very nice when I go in and I appreciate the small banter. The selection is always extremely sufficient for my needs as for comic books but they also have a huge area for gaming, meaning fantasy games which I do not do. Sold me a funko soda. Got in my car opened it and had no black plastic bag covering the figure. The figure was just covered in bubble wrap.. when I asked the employee why was it like this and out that it was already open... he called the manger and had the employee tell me "yea no bro some of the sodas don't come with the black plastic bag" I started collecting them more and realized I got rob by this trash company read more

Back in the day, Dragon's Lair was my favorite shop. They had all the comic, miniature, RPG, Magic action I craved, plus many other wonders I couldn't even identify. After stopping in today, they're definitely still on top of their game. They have a gigantic collection of rent-able Anime. Plus, the comic stock is huge. Go here for great comics, games, cards, et al. Finally got to check out their new location. It actually feels almost exactly the same as their original (and sadly burnt to a crisp) location at 84th and Blondo. I've been a fan of Dragon's Lair since my childhood. While I'm not much of a gamer anymore and I rarely buy single comics, I am a big fan of graphic novels and trade paperbacks. Because, well, I like to read good stories. So I was looking for a copy of "From Hell," that Alan Moore/Eddie Campbell classic tale. They didn't have it in stock, but had a used copy sent over from their Millard location for me to pick up the next day. Not a bad deal for $10. And they're still using their signature punch cards as well -- you know 10 purchases of $10 or more will get you 20% off or something like that. There are few things more fun, in my book anyway, than lingering around a comic shop for an hour, sifting through bookshelves and bins, hoping to find that next great comic to read. read more

Nerds rejoice. When I was a youngster I remember playing some of the video games in the back and getting a couple quarter comics from here. When I visited here recently I happened to stumble on some very intense board games. There were four people gathered around a table, Three males and one female. One of the patrons says to the other "a trap door opens and you fall in, and lose three hit points. The female player rolls the dice next and lands on the same spot " a trap door opens and you fall in lose three hit points" She then says " wait, if he fell in first wouldn't I land on top of him shouldn't that soften the fall" . He replies "good point! lose only two hit points". I have no idea what they were playing but they certainly love this place. I am glad there is a realm like this in Omaha. This is my go to store in Omaha for comics and gaming. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and staples of the community. They have a large back stock and tons of current runs. They games of all sorts from boards to cards to dice. They host a top notch FCBD and have tons of gaming nights for all ages and fandoms. 10/10 would recommend to anyone. read more

Do NOT buy from here. I recently introduced comics to my father and he wanted to pick some up for the Grandchildren. When we entered the store we were 100% ignored. As I shopped I found the store to be dirty & the comics not properly handled or arranged. There are a great deal of comics not out on display. Most of these comics are the titles with diverse characters. Tacky and tastless. After hunting for someone to assist me, I had to use my Comixology account for them to have any clue about the comics I was looking for. After waiting for them to dig them out of the backroom the comics were ploped down in front of me and the employee walked away. Some where in plastic with a board and others were not. After a few minutes of sorting out the mess that was tossed in front of me someone came over to actually lecture my father and I on how to handle the comics. How RUDE and utterly DISGUSTING. How about giving this lecture to your employees instead of the people who came in to buy anywhere from $50 - $100 on comics. You give comic books shops a HORRID name. Please GOT OUT of the business. Your shop needs to be turned over to someone educated in comics, customer service, & genereal manners. Please support a comic book store which treats ALL customers the same instead of ones that assume customers of a certain race or gender are ignorant of comic books when those customers know more about comics than their employees. read more

I like the new location; the store is roomier, there is more visible stock on hand, and more counter space for card games and whatnot. The service, however, has become atrocious, and I don't foresee myself spending another dollar there. I went in on a Saturday to look at the cards and games with a friend of mine. While he was browsing comics, I stood at one of the glass cases, alternating between looking into the case and looking at the staff for help, holding a worn out, fully punched discount card. The first five or six minutes of nobody noticing me looking at them went by uneventfully, and I even saw someone come over and help two gentlemen who were two feet away from me. He then asked what I needed. I asked to look at a couple of cards, and also see if my punch card was still valid. It was a few years old, with two of the punches worn off, but you could see where they were. He saw them, too, and said he thought it should be valid, but would have to ask Bob (the owner). Bob took a look at it and, while he would not specifically say the words, he clearly implied that I simply took a poorly torn card that had already been redeemed and was attempting to use that. In spite of my explanations that the card was old, and had been through the washing machine a couple times, he was resolute in his belief that I was attempting to defraud him. I can not even begin to tell you how angry I was. There is no excuse for being that rude to potential customers. None. I realize that nothing I say is going to change the way he treats people. I know we all have limits, and I hope someone will read this and remember a similarly bad experience, and maybe they'll stop going there, too. If enough people read this that had bad experiences with his brusque, caustic, nasty behavior and decide to not come back, maybe he *might* get the idea. For the time being, I'll be shopping at Krypton Comics or Ground Zero. read more

I've have been a loyal customer of dragon lairs since i was seven. i live outta town but every occasion i come back home to Omaha i visit. i had helped them move there product after the store fire to the new location; however, this time i visited the store i ran into the owner's wife. i was there to buy an Iron Man 3 war machine statue. i told her that i had several punch cards and asked if they could be applied to the purchase. The owners wife flew into a rage. i explained to her that the model had been setting in the same spot since they moved the store to the new location and that it would be better to move the product then have it sitting on a shelf for a yr. She told me she didn't care what i thought she was very rude, loud and opinionated. Needless to say that i WILL NEVER SPEND ANOTHER DIME THERE. Love this place, always have, since I was a kid. Staff is all just a bunch of nerds, which I mean positively, as they know what they're talking about, and can help you find what you're looking for. They're smaller than krypton, but remain true to the "hardcore nerd" products, not just a lot of fluff like krypton, or other places. First came here in 1999 -- which at that point it was still a well defined establishment in Omaha. Many comic book stores have come and gone, but Dragon's Lair has remained. The Magic card selection is generally my primary interest when I used to play, but for about 14 years I've purchased many RPG books here as well. While I don't attend weekly events anymore (such as "drafts" for Magic), the atmosphere was generally great. I have many good memories here and any time I've come in recently I've been treated with respect. Craig, a manager, is one of the most friendly individuals I've met in a local shop -- Omaha or elsewhere. Whenever Bob retires, I hope he takes over as he has done a fantastic job. *The new building is great for those that haven't been in it. read more

The best comic and game store in Omaha. I've been coming here since the 80s. Bob and his staff are great. If they actually don't have what you're looking for, they can get it for you fast. I miss the old store, but the new one is way better. The parking and size of the new shop are incredible. No more cramped parking and squeezing by other customers. I love the new store! read more

The atmosphere of the store generated by the staff can be so uncomfortable. Oh and by the way if you have any trade ins the full value is cut in half if you want it in cash. And I love how you have to set an appointment for something that takes literally 5 minutes. I love the selection of nerdy greatness available at Dragon's Lair Comics. Most of the staff are really friendly people, but occasionally you will catch the owner on a bad day. Don't let his occasional grumpiness fool you, this is an awesome place to get great deals on used mini's card games, and a variety of new things to geek out with. They also hold scheduled social events and you can drop by and play games with your friends! read more

I had had pleasant experiences here up until recently. I felt that one of the employees had been unhelpful and short with me on the phone so I went to speak to the owner. I explained the situation to him and he hummed and hawed about what had been going on at the store for a while. He then proceeded to give me a litany of excuses that included saying the store may have been busy or that the gentleman I spoke with may have been training someone. I told him he was not addressing my concern that I received poor service and at that point he told me in no uncertain terms that they get busy often and that he couldn't be sure it wouldn't happen again. The only saving grace was that the manager of the Millard location was over there and by the end of mine and the owners conversation he apologized and asked what he could do to make it right. It's was way too late by then though. Bottom line, when someone comes to you with a complaint about the service they received "we may have been busy and I can't be sure it won't happen again" is just about the worst conceivable response. read more
