Great place for breakfast! Super friendly staff and great portions. So tasty too. We were in the area and liked other reviews. Understated from the outside but don't let that deter you! We had the corned beef hash and eggs, Drakes Special breakfast, and Drakes Special omelette. We all had full bellies and take away for later. The hash was cooked to perfection, hash browns crispy on the outside and hot and tender inside. My omelette had just the right amount of filling. Clean and tidy restrooms too. Been going to Drake's for a while. It's a smaller diner that really fits that description. Breakfast and lunch only, they only stay open till 2pm. They switched owners in the last year or so and not much has changed, which is a great thing. A no frills but tasty breakfast or burgers or a patty melt, they do it well. Great little Cafe with home feel! Stopped in with my GF for breakfast since we were in the area and wanted to try something different. The cafe is small with maybe 9/10 booths max and everyone was very friendly even the cook. The restaurant was clean bathrooms and dinning area. I got the country omelette with hash browns and toast and we split a side of pancakes my GF got eggs Benedict. The omelette was good stuffed and the hash browns were simple. The pancakes were good very simple but a ton of blueberries inside. The eggs Benedict were the star very delicious and cooked good. Big chunk of ham and the sauce was delicious. It's a cute hole in the wall in Shelby township. Usually have just one server on so service is slow but it's a small place with only 10 booths so it's not hard to flag her down or get her attention if you need something. Food is really good here. Cheap prices also. Amazing biscuits and gravy, they cook the bacon crispy and it was delicious and every piece was cooked evenly and same. I'm always a little weary when I eat at a spot that's located in a strip mall, even a little more weary when sitting across from is someone who wants to stab you in the face with a butter knife. I guess maybe I would write that off as someone being passionate right? No... you're right, probably not. It probably has to do more with me being a jerk face. Anyway, in high stress high adrenaline situations like these, what's better than some comfort breakfast food? This place serves some of the best. Believe me when I say, there is nothing fancy of this place. What little effort they put into decor and aesthetics they put 55.7x more effort into the quality of the grub they serve. Ms. Murder Eyes ordered a veggie omelette and I had the 2 eggs any style (trying to be extra healthy). Since my meal was pretty simple, I will be reviewing the few bites of the omelette that she had. The best ones I've ever had were the ones that were light, extra fluff and loaded with whatever bits and pieces you want in there. They met every criteria. The eggs sliced easily with a fork, loaded to the brim with veggies. The one thing I have never understood about diner breakfasts is the redundant carbs. Why toast and potatoes? I mean I get both being included but starches? COME ON!!! Throw in a fruit, a veggie, anything. But yet again, I digress. I am very rarely impressed with hashbrowns. Usually they are soggy and undercooked. Drake's did a great job. Crunchy, firm and perfectly cooked. Very tasty. I would have had a few more bites but Ms Murder Eyes was gripping that butter knife pretty tight, her fingers were turning blue. Will definitely be having breakfast here again when I'm in the neighborhood. Hopefully I will be in less physical danger next time around. Post Script - I survived. read more

The food is delicious, there's an awesome variety, the prices cannot be beat, and it is run by the nicest family. Drake's cafe beats all the Coney Islands, Honey Trees, Dennys and IHOPs combined because of the people behind the counter. They are literally the definition of a mom and pop shop. The married couple behind the business work day in and day out 7 days per week, they know their customers names, have been in business for decades, and consistently offer up service with a smile and tasty food made with love by them.
