There must be some personal beef? I hired Fair Trade Carpentry to do work for me earlier this year. They were polite (in person and on the phone), punctual and professional. They did everything I asked and then some and the standard of work was exceptional. The owner certainly takes a personal pride in the work he does and I couldn't be happier with the results. I have recommended him to all my friends who may need future work done. I'm not sure which part 'jeremy p' found confusing but when I hired Fair Trade Carpentry, the bid I received stated quite clearly at the bottom that work would not commence until I had signed and returned it. I've noticed lately that Fair Trade Carpentry now has a website which has a 'testimonials' page. There are numerous residential and commercial clients besides myself, who have sent in their testimonials...I think reading these would give a slightly more balanced view. I say this because I also noticed that jeremy p blogged about another construction company and whined about how they never returned his calls and must not want his business. If the same thing keeps happening to this guy then maybe he's the problem, not the companies he's contacting.

I hired Window World of Binghamton in early 2022, to replace 18 windows around my home. No small task, and definitely not a small bill, being north of 15 thousand said and done. They came out to install in mid-late 2022, about 5-6 months ago. Crew were polite and friendly, and cleaned up most of the mess they made. They had left some of the old wooden frame pieces, nails included, scattered about my yard and driveway, but things happen, not the end of the world. They seemed to work very efficiently, and not once came to me with any issues. We noticed some leftover glue residue on some of the windows, imperfections in the caulking, silly little things like that. None of which I would ever consider big deals, or warrant a negative review. At that point, I would've gave Window World a 9.5/10 review, and kind of glad I had forgotten to do so. Last week I had some roofers out to replace the roof on my house. In the process of doing so, they had to undo the window flashing to install the new roof, since two of the windows sit practically on the roof line of the back dormer. Upon doing so, they discovered a completely rotted window frame, and came to get me to go up on the roof. At that point I had them un-do the second window, and watched another rotted frame exposed right in front of me. This is when the photos were taken, you can see the contractors hands holding the flashing still. As you can see in the photos, the wood is completely rotted through, and clearly has been that way for awhile. You can see the previous owners had at one point covered the rotting wood in some roofing material themselves, so there's no argument that the wood wasn't this way when they installed the window. I do believe this is the very last window they installed that day, so I can imagine it was a hurry up, let's get home, they'll never know type thing. I spoke with WW of Binghamton the next business day, initially asking them their process on discovering rotted wood during replacement window install. They confirmed their process was such that the rot would be cut out and replaced with fresh wood, or if the damage was bad enough, they would re-frame the window. After confirming this is when I raised my concern and anger about the situation, considering I just discovered quite possibly the most rotted wood I'll see on a house. They agreed to send a service guy out ASAP. Service guy came today. Extremely nice fellow, absolutely no qualms with him or what he did, but we basically just chatted about the situation. No real inspection of any windows. I am now left back in the same position I was upon discovering the rot. No real answers. While I do agree the window that is pictured does sit on an area of the house that is prone to this type of issue, meaning lack of sunlight and dampness, how can I rest assured that the 17 other windows they replaced don't look the exact same way? They may not be prone to the same type of damage, but the house is old, and if they were willing to cover up that bad of rot on one window, what do the rest look like. Overall, now I'd give Window World a 1/10. I feel I've been robbed of over $15,000, and have a house full of windows that I just picture are waiting to completely rot away and fall out in 6 months. The 1 only being because the windows and materials they used are definitely very nice. Zero issues with the product itself. The company, however, I would avoid like the plague. Go with Andersen or Pella, hopefully they have honest installation crews and you'll avoid this massive headache I've found myself in.

Before choosing Interstate Homes, we visited four different modular home companies and the contrast…read morewas night and day. We knew this was going to be our forever home so had high expectations- which Interstate truly exceeded. Interstate Homes was the only builder we visited with genuinely personable staff, transparent communication, and zero pressure. Deciding to build with them was hands down the best decision we could have made- and a true Turnkey experience. From day one Neil, Tim, Eddie and the rest of the crew were incredible to work with. Our journey started at the showroom when we met Tim. He gave us his direct contact information right off the bat and patiently walked us through every single detail. He worked with us through more than 20 floor plan revisions until the layout was absolutely perfect and helped us decide when we were stuck on design details like backsplash color. Shortly after, Neil came out to walk our raw property- which at that time was just an open field through the trees. He saw the potential that we saw and helped us visualize our dream- mapping out the land and designing our walkout basement picture-perfect. When build time came, Greg and crew did phenomenal work handling all the groundwork and foundation construction. Doing the site prep, extensive grading, installing the engineered septic system, constructing the ICF foundation, and pouring the basement flooring. Then the interstate crew stick-built the rest of the walk out and got the site all ready for delivery. As with any build, we ran into massive external headaches- from bank financing hurdles to months and months of waiting for NYSEG to set electric poles. Because of those delays, our home delivery got pushed right into the dead of winter. Through every single schedule change, Interstate was there to help us along the way and made the very stressful process seem much less stressful. They adjusted their own timeline to accommodate us and despite having plenty of other customers, they truly made us feel like we were their only one. ​Their character really showed on delivery day. Due to transit delays, the trucks had to navigate a narrow, hilly town road in pitch-black darkness. A tire accidently caught a small edge of our neighbor's lawn, and Neil was back out the very next morning to repair and reseed it without hesitation. That level of accountability and respect is rare and hard to find. ​Once the house was set, Eddie and the rest of the Interstate crew went straight to work assembling the interior, finishing the siding, doing the plumbing and electric, completing the hookups, and much more. They even took on extras that were not on their original list, like installing our high-efficiency heat pump water heater when we made a last-minute switch away from the propane. When we were in the final stretch before the walk through and move in day, workers even volunteered to work on a holiday just to finish our front entryway steps so we could get our CO in time. ​We couldn't be more pleased with the build quality of our home and the character, communication, professionalism, and expertise of the entire Interstate Homes crew. If you are planning to build, save yourself the headache and go with them- "Life is too short to stick build"
