Terrible customer service. I came with my two children, ages 3 and 2, to experience fruit picking, as well as have a good time. Before entering, one of the employees told me "it wasn't a good idea to allow my children in", it for no apparent reason. I imagine they saw them as small and curious about the fruit "as is normal" and preferred to avoid having to deal with this. They showed very little empathy, denying children entry for no reason, to a program that is totally family-friendly and child-friendly. I recommend they be clear on their website and make it explicit that they only accept children of a certain age or older, or that the "pick your own" experience is restricted to adults. read more

It's by far my favorite orchard in Connecticut. The owners are friendly and down to earth, their blueberries are the best tasting berries I've picked (and I'm an avid berry picker every season). The orchard is beautiful and the apples plentiful and delicious. read more

On this beautiful fall day I decided to check out Drazen Orchards. Outside they had a nice selection of pumpkins and some plants. Inside I loved the way they had everything displayed. They had about a dozen different variety of apples, and a nice selection of fruits and vegetables. They also had a great selection of other local vendors merchandise. I can't believe there are no current reviews for Drazen. This place looks nothing like it did when the older reviews were done. They build a beautiful and open air building/farm stand and stocked it very well with not only their own many varieties of apples, peaches and soon plums and pears but also area farms' goods. Take a look at the video I posted to see what I'm talking about. Pick your own happens here like other local farms. It started with berries and progresses through the season to include apples, peaches, pears, plums, etc. They started carrying some (sort of) local bakery items that use their fruit. Elizabeth's in Wallingford supplies pies and breads. They have cider donuts from Neils, muffins from The bagelry at Olmo as well as Italian bread, asiago cheese bread and fresh Challah. A young man I asked about an apple variety I had never heard of (Dandee Red) was very knowledgeable. I also overheard a suggestion that some items are less expensive to purchase in the shop than picking on your own. But what's fun about that! By the way, masks are required and gloves are supplied to handles products to purchase. Enjoy the season and check out Drazen if in the area. read more

If you want to be racially profiled, this is the place for you! My mom and I decided to take my two-year-old son to Drazen orchards on September 14th, so he could experience apple picking for the first time. Upon arrival, we were questioned rather than greeted. The Korean woman asked if we had an appointment and followed was a gentleman who questioned why we were there. These two were not friendly, and I sensed we were trying to be pushed out the door to leave. The gentleman asked if we were looking to get honey crisp apples or what types of apples. I mentioned Granny Smith apples since that is our household favorite . The gentleman tells us we can select the Granny Smiths from the market counter. I'm sure I made a face because Mr. happy pants snapped, saying, "you need to tell me what you want, so I can tell you where to go." I was there for my son to experience an orchard and not to argue over apples, so I settled for honey crisp. He handed us a bag and a bucket and said their minimum is $18 a bag, and then he proceeded to tell us where to walk. "Follow the yellow tape to the left, don't go under the tape, row 23 for honey crisp." Although I find that to be overpriced, we continued because I believe in supporting local businesses and will spend the money to do so. During our walk up to the apple trees, my mom and I began talking about how rude that man was but gave him the benefit of the doubt, saying maybe he was getting frustrated because I was getting frustrated by him interrogating us. We walk up to the top, but my son decides he doesn't want to head towards the row we were instructed to go to. We turned around and headed back towards the market to return the bucket without any apples. We arrived back, and we were asked, "how did you do?" I explained that we didn't pick any apples because my son didn't want to go toward that area. That gentleman rolls his eyes and walks away. The Korean woman said, "next time, don't come back." I couldn't believe that had come out of her mouth. I told her it wasn't necessary to say that, but don't worry, we won't be back, and I'll make sure to tell everyone I know and post this all over social media. When I began browsing the reviews online, I noticed a pattern... all the negative reviews on all media platforms (yelp, Facebook, google) are from Hispanics/people of color sharing their same experiences. Rude and interrogation and all about the same individuals. And then I continue browsing and see this is something that's been going on for years. I hope this ends here, and no one else experiences what we did. Furthermore, I will keep to my word and make sure I let everyone I know not to go here, and I'll post it on all of my social media platforms to ensure word gets out to all the public. read more

The newest owner of this establishment is a liar and backs out of pricing on pre order pricing. We used to deal with Mr Drazen for many years and Shookie. We've always like the service until last year when Eli was very rude to my husband and I during a purchase, and this year offering a set price on a box of apples on Wednesday for pick up Sunday and the price changed when we went to pick up. YOU DO NOT presale your stock at one price on the phone and then back out and sell at a higher price 5 days later!! Bad Business! You've lost a long standing customer to your flakey business ways/nature. I will be sure to spread the word around town about your failure to execute a proper sale! read more

I bought three fig trees from Drazen orchards this past summer and all of them are healthy and thriving. Ive also purchase berries and apples in the past ....very friendly and knowledgeable people working here. I plan on making quite a few more stops next season. read more

5 words... RUDE, RUDE, TOTAL DISRESPECT! When I drive by this place I look over in total disgust. I took my out of state family to pick peaches one afternoon because I had been there before. So we walked up and grabbed a bucket like we had before. But this time the jerk face owner guy...which I never seen before...literally grabbed the bucket out of my hand. At that same moment the business phone rang and he proceeded to take the call. We literally just stood there as he proceeded to take the four minute call describing the entire picking schedule. I tried to walk away but my husband told me to be patient. When he was done we asked for one giant bucket for all 5 of us....which held about 5LBS. The jerk face immediately questioned to why we didnt each want our own buckets. We explained we didnt need 1000lbs, we just wanted enough to make a cobbler. Again, we asked for just one bucket and the jerk face owner guy proceeded to berate us...asking us again why we only want one GIANT bucket instead of five? Although we already explained to him we didnt need all those peaches he continued to say "well I don't want you eating the peaches in the field, you have to pay for them" ahhhh WHAT? We told him we didnt appreciate the accusations and he just went on about what he thought our intentions were. My entire party could not believe our ears. We have never been treated like this...EVER! After his two minute interigations and total DISRESPECTFUL comments...in front of other people no less...we walked towards the field, then all at once it sunk in so we all stopped, turned around, put our empty bucket down, and walked right out. We utterly refused to give them any business. In fact, some local restaurants use their peaches in dishes and we refuse to order anything that has comes from that farm. Cheshire has a ton farms which we'd rather support. Many with much better product and much lower prices. I hope the idiot jerk face owners choke on their peaches. Total A-holes! read more

I purchased small items from Drazen Orchards a few times during the summer of 2015 when I was in the area for work and I was not impressed. There isn't much in terms of variety. Just Drazen apples, pears, and a couple varieties of stone fruit. Everything else is brought in from other nearby farms and sold at a mark-up. I'm always buying fruit in large quantities from a seemingly endless number of vendors, markets, and supermarkets all over the place, and I found myself unwilling to pay the high prices for fruit at Drazen Orchard's market. A few items were reasonable, like tomatillos, for $1 a pound, but mostly everything sold there can be purchased from other local farmers for much cheaper. In addition to this, the person who always seems to be running the register and answering the telephone is a little old Korean man named Juaney who seems nice enough, but you can never understand what he is saying. He's also pretty slow. A few times I stood there for quite a spell with my coconut ice pop in one and hand and my money in the other, waiting for him to come to the register and ring me out. I witnessed at least two other customers who were unable to understand what Juaney was saying. In fact, I noticed that most of the employees at Drazen Orchards didn't speak or understand English. Which is fine...but a customer service position might not be the best placement for someone who doesn't speak the prevalent language of the customer base. All things considered from the 3 to 5 times I purchased items at Drazen Orchards, I'd say they'll do if you are in a pinch, but otherwise, there's a lot of small, local farms struggling to keep afloat against agribusiness giants and they all could use your dollars as well. Most of them seem to take much more pride in offering great produce to their customers at a great price, and they don't treat customers as an afterthought. Other farms also seem to have more integrity and take much more pride in their work. Just a few things I noticed in my short time shopping at Drazen Orchards. Someone has since told me that Drazen Orchards sprays Roundup all around their fruit trees to keep the grass at bay. As the premier commercial product of Monsanto, you'd think any self-respecting farmer with any concern for their customers or the environment would avoid Roundup at all costs. read more

I work at Waterbury ARC, a day program for adults with intellectual disabilities. On Saturdays we take our individuals on day trips. We decided Drazen Orchards would be a nice place for them to go apple picking. The director of this program did not call ahead to make a reservation as it is not mentioned anywhere on their website that you must make a reservation for large groups. Due to COVID, we split our individuals into groups of 3 with a staff member supervising and each group is sent out separately for each activity. I had a group of 3 guys and we arrived first. I brought them to the pick your own stand where a nice lady greeted us and gave us all the information we needed. As we were going to pick our apples the owner came out and said "let me handle this one". Long story short he told us we could not pick apples at his orchard because we did not call ahead to let him know there was a large group coming. Families of 4 were coming and going at their leisure but our individuals were denied from picking their own apples at Drazen Orchards. I am disgusted but the way the guy treated our individuals and will never go back there again whether for work or pleasure. We left Drazen and went to Hickory Hill Orchards up the road. And they were amazing! They even gave our individuals free apples when they accidentally picked too many! read more

So we are a regular late summer- fall fruit picking family and we go everywhere around from Shelton to Guilford to Glastonbury to Wolcot and compare quality and price. Drazen is fairly priced and for some varieties about 20 to 30 cents cheaper on price per pound. In addition in late summer there are Italian plums and peaches. The varieties of apples are the standard for this region. They sell very rare quince apples. Maybe a little short on late season varieties but that doesn't matter until the end of October. All farm stands sell non self grown products. The point is that they are still local. It is certainly better to support the small guys as compared to Big operations such as Lyman's Bishops and Jones Farm. read more

Overall this is probably one of the less enjoyable apple orchards I've ever been to. On their website they advertise a hay ride, to which there is no such thing. Their prices are high for PYO as well as their pumpkins (not even fresh pumpkins might I add) and the apple trees there were in general very, very small with little fruit to be had. To finish off the experience the cashier falsely accused me of mixing the more expensive apple in with the cheaper ones and charged me extra. I mean when moat of your tree rows aren't clearly labelled how do you expect anyone to know what they're picking. Overall I would not recommend this orchard as there are much better ones further north in CT. read more

Wonderful family owned farm that does a great job supplying the locals with fresh fruits and veggies. My father SWEARS by the white peaches, be mindful if you are on the lookout for them, they only come out for 1-2 weeks per year! All of the fruits and veggies I purchased are fresh and crisp, and never had a bad experience. read more

My family and I went to this place, the young guy who gave us the buckets was really nice and gave us instructions on what to do, we first went to the east side to pick apples, the kids were really excited, and they grabbed an apple each from the GROUND and we let them eat it because we were going pay for them at check out after we were done picking apples we went to the main entrance to leave the full buckets, and when we were about to go to the other side to pick some plums and peaches we heard a guy yelling at us saying we couldn't sit on the picnic tables nor eat the fruit which we knew and were going to pay for, we say sorry and that the kids just wanted to try them but we understood what he said. Then the Korean lady(EJ) came out running (who was at the register) yelling at us and told us the same thing but she was very rude and treated us as if we didn't understand her since were speaking Spanish to each other. Then we walked away and just went on our way to pick the fruit and the same guy who came out yelling at us was following us to see if we were eating any fruit, so we decided to just pay for the apples and leave, we went to get our apple buckets but when the nice lady who helped us was about to give it to us the Korean lady (EJ) told her "Not these" meaning she wasn't going to give us the fruit, but the other lady was nice enough to explain it to her that bucket was ours, so we proceeded to check out and when she was checking the fruit I told her that we were also gonna pay for the two apples that the kids were eating and she said "no it's okay you can eat the fruit" which I insisted to pay for because not only they were really rude and treated us really bad they were also talking smack about it. so in conclusion, they should really work on their customer service because I know we aren't the first ones who go through this situation. Don't go! try the orchard down the street instead. read more

Holy crap. Peaches (yellow and white) and nectarines to die for. While they seem too firm and not quite smelling "peachy" enough to be ripe, give them one day at room temperature and prepare to fall in love. Zestar apples are also quite a treat. they are an early season honey crisp-like apple. Firm, juicy, and sweet. Very friendly and helpful staff. Pick your own is available. read more
