Old Bishops Farm isn't a new business however they reopened this weekend and it was my first time there! Love how there's room to walk , it's clean, there's fresh veggies, and pretty flowers and pumpkins of all sorts to pick ! Even fruit picking .. in this case apples! Staff was great! My dad ordered a pumpkin donut and I just had a small home made ice cream. It it was delicious! There are 2 different areas to purchase bakery items and Ice cream which is nice . Keeps lines separate and not too long. There's tables outdoors where you can enjoy ! We enjoyed the ride. It's kind of in between residential area in Cheshire but easy to get to. read more

I've been a few more times and the size of the ice cream has improved greatly. Some of the new flavors are very interesting. Best ice cream in the area. Service is always quick and friendly. Some seating indoors and plenty outdoors. They always have great looking pastries too but their ice cream is so good that I'm never able to eat anything else. read more

If all the best places go above and beyond the norm, everybody else needs to keep up or they can't be considered one of the best. Fair or not fair, that has to be true. For me, Old Bishop Farm suffers in this comparison with other top CT ice cream shops. My wife and I ate dinner in Cheshire. As I often do, I did a Yelp search for interesting nearby food businesses. That's how I discovered Old Bishop Farm has a 5 Star Yelp Rating for Ice Cream and Frozen Yogurt. Yelp identifies Old Bishop Farm as a bakery and Farm Market as well, but this review exclusively focusses on the Homemade Ice Cream part of the business. Old Bishop had about 15 fairly standard flavors. I ordered a single scoop of Cookies and Cream on a sugar cone. My wife ordered a small cup of Cherry Chocolate Chip ice cream with Hot Fudge. The young man who helped me gave me exactly what I ordered - a rounded single scoop of ice cream. I'm attaching a pic of the cone to my review. I assume this is a standard single scoop cone for Old Bishop Farm, although I guess it's possible I was helped by a newer employee. Either way, I don't visit any other ice cream shops that define a single scoop that way. I can't remember when an ice cream shop gave me a smaller quantity of ice cream for a single scoop. It looks like a Kid Size. Maybe other places charge more too. In any event, an ice cream place is fighting an uphill battle when they hand you a visually uninspiring cone compared to other places. The ice cream was fine. It didn't stand out compared to other places I visit, but I generally only go to high end places. It's possible that the other aspects of Old Bishop Farm's business help justify its Five Star Yelp rating. But with all the great CT ice cream shops, I can only give Old Bishop Farm 3 Stars for its ice cream. read more

New owners, walked in to get some fresh fruit, and the first thing I noticed was that all varieties of apples were $6.00/pound. I've been to all the best farms in the northeast and I've never paid more than $3.00/pound. A hidden gem here in Cheshire! We were looking for a pick your orchard and we stumbled upon one of the best that we've been to here in CT. The staff were super friendly and answered all our questions that we had as 1st timers. Great find! A fairly traditional New England farm/orchard stand with the addition of freshly made ice cream. The ice cream is excellent and comes in some unique flavors. We bought many of the typical items such as apple pie, apple crumb pie and cider donuts. Everything was very good. A solid addition to a very crowded market in Cheshire. In addition, they have a beautiful flower garden, a small candy selection as well as hay bales, pumpkins, gourds and other seasonal items. Overall it was a very nice experience with very nice and friendly owners who obviously take pride in reopening this place. read more

Super friendly staff in the charming farm store and a lovely local place place for pick-your-own. I took my 65 year old parents and my 4 year old son to go strawberry picking here. I don't know who was more delighted with the activity (ok, it was my mom), but we had a wonderful time walking around the grounds and picking the delicious berries. Afterwards we stopped at the farm store and bought some pies. The owner's wife gave us a free banana cream pie as a gift to try. Well she must have known it would hook us into returning because that banana cream pie is really something! (Key lime was awesome as well!). We were too full for their home made ice cream and donuts. What a fantastic surprise. I grew up in Cheshire and just recently returned for the summer, excited to find out about Old Bishop Farm. My first visit we bought the most delicious pie I've ever tasted. It was mixed berry crumb pie. It was sugary sweet and tart as well. Heated up and magical. My second visit we got blueberry muffins straight out of the oven. Fresh blueberries bursting through the perfectly cooked muffins. It was fun to peak around the gift store side of it as well. I have essentially been a lifelong Cheshire resident and have seen Bishop Farm through several different owners, closures, and iterations. There are many collective memories of pumpkin patches, hayrides, apple picking, donuts, and the animal farm that adorn my childhood, but sadly this farm remained closed and in gradual neglect for many years...that is until the Torello family stepped in and breathed life back into this well loved iconic Cheshire institution. The labor, countless hours, and sweat equity that the Torellos have invested into what is now Old Bishop Farm is truly remarkable. They have breathed vitality back into the property and have made it even more special. The store has been beautifully renovated, radiates hometown Cheshire pride, and offers a variety of kitchen items and accessories. We have had the chance to enjoy a variety of their delicious homemade baked goods, which are all made on site. The donuts are particularly tasty, especially the blueberry and apple cider varieties. We haven't tried one of their pies yet, but it's only a matter of time. They've also taken the business up a notch with a fantastic ice cream shop that rivals even the most revered local institutions. Perhaps the most special aspect of OId Bishop Farm, is the revival of the farm itself. Everything grown on site is organic and the quality of the produce is unparalleled. The pick your own strawberries and black raspberries we recently purchased were truly textbook. You honestly have to come visit to understand the magic that has been preserved at Old Bishop Farm. Be prepared that produce pricing at times runs on the pricier side given that they are grown using sustainable organic prices, but the trip and money is well worth the investment to support a true homegrown business. read more

I was the other half of Rene K.'s bike riding. I decided to try their "sweet corn" flavor...WOW! I got a small dish of it...and it was just right. If you have ever had buttered popcorn flavored jelly beans from a very well known jelly bean manufacturer, you would have that flavor in a nutshell. We also got to try their double chocolate and apple cider doughnuts. These were fantastic! The owner was wonderful and pointed out several facts about the building and why they purchased the farm. I HIGHLY recommend them. RUN, don't walk...and I've been told if you go in the morning, she makes those apple cider doughnuts fresh each day (at least right now, not sure about all year round), and you get them still warm...there's a line to get them, though. To say I was impressed with the decor, the building, the owner, the ice cream and the doughnuts would be a severe understatement. Check them out. You'll be glad you did! read more

After an afternoon of bike riding, decided to stop for ice cream. We were familiar with a couple of places in the area but did a search to see what else came up and found Old Bishop Farm. We tried their ice cream, delicious! The sweet corn was a fantastic seasonal flavor. I also love chocolate donuts and upon telling the owner,she gave me one to try. Finally made the trek there and OMG, I'll be back soon! I had two scoops of ice cream, rocky road and peanut butter cup. Amazingly creamy and delicious! I'd go back just for more ice cream , but then there are the baked goods! We took home mini apple crumb and banana cream pies for Mother's Day! They were exceptional! I thought the banana cream was my favorite until I had the apple crumb! Now it's a tie! The apple crumb is like the most amazing crumb cake topping with the perfect amount of perfectly cooked apples to compliment it, seated in the perfect crust! I just love this farm! Everyone on the farm is so friendly and helpful. This is my go to spot to pick fruit and get some special treats. The ice cream is so creamy and flavorful. The cookies are some of the best I've had and trust me I've had my fair share ; ) Also, they have a cookie pie! YES... you heard me a cookie pie that will melt in your mouth.
