If all the best places go above and beyond the norm, everybody else needs to keep up or they can't be considered one of the best. Fair or not fair, that has to be true. For me, Old Bishop Farm suffers in this comparison with other top CT ice cream shops. My wife and I ate dinner in Cheshire. As I often do, I did a Yelp search for interesting nearby food businesses. That's how I discovered Old Bishop Farm has a 5 Star Yelp Rating for Ice Cream and Frozen Yogurt. Yelp identifies Old Bishop Farm as a bakery and Farm Market as well, but this review exclusively focusses on the Homemade Ice Cream part of the business. Old Bishop had about 15 fairly standard flavors. I ordered a single scoop of Cookies and Cream on a sugar cone. My wife ordered a small cup of Cherry Chocolate Chip ice cream with Hot Fudge. The young man who helped me gave me exactly what I ordered - a rounded single scoop of ice cream. I'm attaching a pic of the cone to my review. I assume this is a standard single scoop cone for Old Bishop Farm, although I guess it's possible I was helped by a newer employee. Either way, I don't visit any other ice cream shops that define a single scoop that way. I can't remember when an ice cream shop gave me a smaller quantity of ice cream for a single scoop. It looks like a Kid Size. Maybe other places charge more too. In any event, an ice cream place is fighting an uphill battle when they hand you a visually uninspiring cone compared to other places. The ice cream was fine. It didn't stand out compared to other places I visit, but I generally only go to high end places. It's possible that the other aspects of Old Bishop Farm's business help justify its Five Star Yelp rating. But with all the great CT ice cream shops, I can only give Old Bishop Farm 3 Stars for its ice cream.

Old Bishop Farm in Cheshire is a perfect getaway for a fall day starting with the scenic farm filled with pumpkins, cornstalks, gourds and many decorations on the farm for photo taking. When you go inside for coffee & to watch them make cider donuts, or for ice cream and deserts, you cant ignore browsing through the gift shop. A fun day.

A hidden gem here in Cheshire! We were looking for a pick your orchard and we stumbled upon one of the best that we've been to here in CT. The staff were super friendly and answered all our questions that we had as 1st timers. Adorable country store with very unique gift ideas in addition to locally sourced produce and a candy bar sure to please all ages! Make sure to save room or stop by again for their delicious homemade ice cream and milkshakes! They certainly have something for everyone. We can't wait to come back for blueberry & apple picking!

Great find! A fairly traditional New England farm/orchard stand with the addition of freshly made ice cream. The ice cream is excellent and comes in some unique flavors. We bought many of the typical items such as apple pie, apple crumb pie and cider donuts. Everything was very good. A solid addition to a very crowded market in Cheshire. In addition, they have a beautiful flower garden, a small candy selection as well as hay bales, pumpkins, gourds and other seasonal items. Overall it was a very nice experience with very nice and friendly owners who obviously take pride in reopening this place.

A visit to this historic farm and country store makes for the ultimate New England experience! The shop is honestly the most aesthetically pleasing I've seen locally, and their homemade ice cream and baked goods have that Connecticut rustic flavor you can't get anywhere else. Don't miss the pick your own options-- the PYO flower garden is my personal favorite!

Lovely spot! Delicious strawberries and sweet staff!

Lovely farm! So cute inside and they have the most delicious strawberries and super sweet staff, oh, and I can't forget the donuts, they are way better than the popular local spots

Super friendly staff in the charming farm store and a lovely local place place for pick-your-own. I took my 65 year old parents and my 4 year old son to go strawberry picking here. I don't know who was more delighted with the activity (ok, it was my mom), but we had a wonderful time walking around the grounds and picking the delicious berries. Afterwards we stopped at the farm store and bought some pies. The owner's wife gave us a free banana cream pie as a gift to try. Well she must have known it would hook us into returning because that banana cream pie is really something! (Key lime was awesome as well!). We were too full for their home made ice cream and donuts. Next time! Thanks for the lovely visit!

Visit this scenic family farm in Cheshire, a great place for kids and adults! Bring a lunch and enjoy eating on the front porch. Enjoy homemade donuts or ice cream after! Organically grown apples, strawberries, raspberries....

Unfortunately she didn't win, but she should have! We live in CA and got married in CT, where my husband is from. We could not do an in-person tasting, so Ana had our cake samples overnighted to us in California. We did all of our communication via email. I was able to tell her exactly what I wanted without ever meeting her in person, and she was able to translate it absolutely perfectly into the cake of our dreams. She even developed a recipe for both the cake and the buttercream because the flavors we wanted were not offered at the time of our wedding. We had a fairly limited budget for the cake (700 or so for 100 guests) but the cake looked like it cost thousands of dollars, and was as delicious on the inside as it was beautiful. The sugar flowers looked real, and we even tried the fondant, which was delicious, even though everyone says its for decoration only. Planning a wedding from 4000 miles away is stressful enough- it was so nice to have a vendor who truly took the time to listen to what we wanted and help us come up with something absolutely perfect for our wedding. I would absolutely recommend Ana and her entire staff, and am honored to have had one of her creations as the centerpiece of my wedding.

I found their offerings interesting and inventive but I wasn't blown away. I like that the pastries are properly baked so they are darker and more crisp than most places. The guava one was good, but very messy as there were square, white chunks of filling mixed with the guava preserves so they were loose and fell out when I bit into it. The Cinnabon style bun was completely cooked through, which I appreciate since the actual Cinnabons tend to be doughy inside. These ones are glazed with a bit of icing instead of cream cheese frosting; I enjoyed it, but I would have liked a little more. The chocolate croissant was generously filled with a good, dark chocolate, just the right amount, just loose enough to coat the inside. I didn't taste any orange in the orange poppy muffin and I'm not a fan of strusel topping on a muffin, as I like muffin tops. All in all not bad, I will give it another try if next time I have a weekend day off.

Unfortunately the outside of the bun was too dense and flavor lite though the much smaller, interior part, was as delicious as expected. I will no doubt be returning in the not too distant future to sample more of their delicious pastries as should you.

I brought home the chocolate hazelnut and coconut ice cream flavors, and both were absolutely delicious. The chocolate hazelnut was rich and creamy, while the coconut had a refreshing flavor that was perfect for a warm day. I also purchased two breakfast pastries. One was a raspberry-flavored pastry that I really enjoyed. The other was supposed to be filled with vanilla, but the filling tasted different than I expected. It's very rare to find a place that does this. I was excitedand ordered two grinders. One was the Lucky Luciano and the other was the Sicilian. The. Lucky Luciano is a vegetable base with provolone cheese. It was thinly sliced provolone cheese, two slices on the entire grinder. Unfortunately, due to the marinated mushrooms and marinated eggplant. The bread was pretty soaked. I think if they used more cheese as a barrier, this sandwich could've been better. The Sicilian is basically an eggplant Parmesan. I did not care for this in Parmesan however it is edible. The eggplant was sliced, extremely thin that you could barely taste it. Instead of using melted mozzarella, there was one hunk of fresh mozzarella on the sandwich. I did feel that the prices were pretty expensive however, I probably would try the vegetable sandwich again if I eat it in person and ask them to put extra provolone around the bread . A lot of the reviews people love it here so I might try some other sandwiches however I don't eat meat so these were the two sandwiches I was interested in.
