Ribs tasted boiled and then dried out which was the weirdest bbq I've ever had I LOOOVVEE bbq and I took one bite and could not take another. Paid the bill and left. I've been all over the country trying BBQ this is the worst bbq I've ever had sadly. I was so excited to try it I couldn't take another bite. We drove 3 hours from Auburn to Tuscaloosa for the Strawberry Festival ended up trying another bbq place down the street instead. (P.S. Their barbecue sauce is divine! It's a little hot, so be prepared if you bring the family. Servers and staff are always friendly and the service is great! Unfortunately, the Saturday before Easter was not a good experience. When we sat down we were told the wait was 30-45 minutes for ribs which only 2 of our party had. The rest of us received our meals in a timely manner but kept watching to go orders go out the door and pans of ribs heading to kitchen. Finally, after an hour the other two decided to cancel their order, to which they said were just waiting on the fries. First off, our server was great! She was so friendly, helpful with suggestions, and super on top of things. My husband had been a regular at Dreamland years ago when he attended UA, so this was the one place he was really looking forward to going to when we were there on a visit. I'm not a huge ribs person, but he definitely enjoyed his ribs, not only that day, but for breakfast the following two days (I tried hard not to judge, lol). I got the smokehouse quesadilla with sausage, and I wasn't the biggest fan of that. It was just really heavy, and I think it would probably have been better with a different meat in it. We went there today with a group of 6. It took quite a while, but they eventually brought entrees for four and said the other two would be out shortly. After the first four were done eating, they brought the 5th meal and told us that the didn't have the last meal because they were out of those ingredients. The waiter was VERY new, so we didn't blame him, but the management was clearly not paying attention. One of the people in our group went up to tell the manager that this was very poor service, and they literally just looked at him. The meat was good, but most of the food is average at best. The ribs were very good , large and meaty but a bit dry. I don't think they are seasoned, if they are not very much which is nice to allow the taste of the rib and the vinaigrette barbecue sauce. This place is so filthy!! Booths are old, stained and torn. Floor is just gross. Bathroom is nasty. We waited forever on our food. Was definitely not worth the wait. Brought appetizer, salads, and everything all at once. Barbecue was swimming in sauce and terrible. Fries were cold. Okra was cold and greasy. No apology from the waitress for taking so long, nor for everything coming out together. Had to ask for refills, then she took forever. Just a disaster in every way. Would never go back!!! This place didn't disappoint us. We started off with the Big Daddy Loaded House chips, they are awesome!! I then we got our entrees,, I ordered the Legendary BBQ sandwich with Mac and cheese, it was delicious. My coworker got the slab of ribs and sausage, the other one got the half chicken. I stopped by Dreamland after the other place I tried to go to was packed. This was my first time to try this location, but I've had it several times from elsewhere. I walked in and there were a few people in front of me. We stood there for a few minutes before someone finally said that we could all sit wherever we wanted to. I sat down and ordered my drink and got a half slab of ribs. The food came out pretty quick. The waitress never came by to check on me or refill my water. Ribs were ok, but a little tough. Having the BBQ cookers with fires going inside the restaurant was really cool. The food was great especially the BBQ chicken sandwich I had. Visiting from Texas and having had 2 smokers over the years, I maybe more critical than others. Start off with the menu as it was missing the beef brisket? That's sort of like going to a burger place but they don't have beef? To be fair, I know its not texas and each regjon has their specialty. So for a family of 5, we got 3 full slabs of ribs as that's their specialty, along with chicken, mac cheese and fried okrq. The ribs were hot off the grill, but it wasn't tender. I was expecting the meat to fall of the bones, as these were not. It was a bit chewy actually. Had assumed it was slowly smoked, but I think it was just thrown on the bbq grill in cooking it. It was also a bit salty. Chicken, it was dried. Waiter mentioned it was the second to last piece they had. So not sure if they were prepared hours earlier and just let it sit and dried out? Fries okra were room temperature, which is to say it's not that good. We were with 2 other families, and our friends had the same issue so he asked the waiter to bring him some freshly fried ones. Guess we should've done the same as ours was cold. Lastly, Mac cheese was creamy and tasty. So of all the food, this was the best. But I didn't come to a bbq place to eat Mac cheese. Again, I know I shouldn't be compare this to Texas as my base, but that's my opinion and my experience and expectation when it comes to bbq. read more

Big, meaty, succulent, ribs in a near-perfect sauce, served by the half or full rack. My mouth is watering just from having typed that. "Ribs". That's Dreamland's clarion call. Everything else is good, but those ribs are the must-stop-for item for our regular Alabama crossings to points east. In fact the original Dreamland, on a twisting backroad south of Tuscaloosa, serves only ribs. All of the other locations offer a broader menu with chicken, brisket, and pulled pork. In addition to the outstanding ribs, two items deserve honorable mention: the sauce itself and the banana pudding. Other menu items are more in line with good bbq places across the south. The chicken reminds me of Sonny's. For me, the sauce is best paired with the ribs, but others in my travel party look forward to that same sauce on the other meats and probably will bristle at my inclusion of "Sonny's" in the same paragraph as "Dreamland." As with Sonny's, the racks of sauce jars for sale are testament that other customers feel this way. The banana pudding reminds me and probably most baby-boomer patrons of the treat our moms made from the Nilla recipe when we were children. The smallest serving is about the size of a golf ball, not much more than a taste. The larger servings are more satisfying but also add insult to dietary injury, though anyone who sets foot into Dreamland probably isn't particularly worried about longevity. One of my frequent Dreamland companions is challenging me on my four star rating. He asks, "what is it that they could improve? Why not a full five stars?" For those looking for ribs--and big wet-style ribs, to be specific--Dreamland rates five stars. The rest of the menu is very good but not exceptional; for the non-rib bbq fan, I give four stars. We had a better experience here than at Archibald and Woodrow's; nevertheless, the search for good pulled pork in T-town continues. This is not the original Dreamland location. That location serves only ribs, beans, barbecue, and banana pudding. We chose this one, as I don't really eat ribs and wanted more side options with my meal. The parking lot is nice and spacious, as is the restaurant. Divey vibes and neon beer signs abound. Our service was overall pretty good. Food came out quickly. Could have used a refill around the end but it's whatever. The food was really very average/mediocre. The ribs were probably the best part, but my boyfriend said they're better at the Huntsville location and were a little dry/low on flavor. Decent, but not exceptional. The fries were a little cold but I liked the pepper on them. The mac and cheese was forgettable but not bad. Sweet tea was good but could have been a little sweeter (although I tend to like VERY sweet tea the best). Pulled pork sandwich was covered in too much vinegar sauce (when will my Memphis bbq loving soul get sweet, thick sauce again??) and thus the bottom part of the bun was too soggy to enjoy.
