Stopped there with a friend for lunch on a recent trip to Gordo. First time for him, I've enjoyed the place several times. My friend and I both got the Country Fried Steak with the white gravy. Large serving, not over cooked the way a lot of places prepare it. Beef was tender with a light breading, making every bite a perfect combination of meat and breading. All side each of us had were favorable. I think the creamed corn will be one of my new "Go To" at Blue Plate. My friend order an appetizer of onion rings. They were definitely not from Sysco, they were very crisp with the perfect amount of breading. My only issue at Blue Plate is they only serve corn bread, and I'm not a big fan of corn bread, but this time I tasted theirs, and it was like potato chips, I keep going back for more. It was buttery and soft with the perfect amount of crust. My friend wanted to know when we're going back to Gordo. Said he could eat here every day. read more

After church today, we decided to hit up The Blue Plate--a good ol' Northport meat-and-three classic. Apparently, half the town had the same idea because the parking lot looked like a Bama tailgate minus the tents and the yelling. We walked in and found ourselves about twenty deep in line--but hey, that's how you know it's good. Thankfully, since it was just the two of us, we scored a table in about ten minutes. Others... well, they might still be waiting as I write this. It's been a while since our last visit, and I noticed the menu's slimmed down a bit--but honestly, the food's leveled up. I went with the blackened catfish, turnip greens, and creamed corn, and let me tell you, that creamed corn was off the chain. Hot, buttery, and so good it could make you forget your own name. Everything came out fresh, seasoned just right, and hit the spot like a dart in a bullseye. Now, let's talk about that complimentary cornbread. Fluffy, golden, and just sweet enough--it's the kind of side that could run for mayor and win. I'm proud of myself for showing a little restraint today and not asking for seconds. (Believe me, it took Olympic-level willpower.) Our waitress was hustling like a Bama walk-on trying to earn a scholarship--fast, friendly, and somehow always smiling. Service: A+. Prices? A little higher than I remember, but that seems to be the new normal for a meat-and-three these days. Only downside--we got seated right by the door. Every time it opened, we got a blast of fresh air and a few curious stares. Folks walking in got a front-row seat to us eating like it was the "Welcome to Blue Plate" exhibit. But when you roll in at peak hour, you take what you can get. All in all, great food, friendly folks, and a true taste of Northport hospitality--just next time, I might wear sunglasses so I don't feel like part of the lunchtime attraction. read more

We stopped after I read about this place on Yelp. We were passing through heading to New Orleans. Best place ever for country southern cooking! Perfect staff despite being covered up with church folks on a Sunday at lunchtime. We had chicken n' dumplings, the best other than my mommas, country fried steak, fried pork chop. We had the greens and Mac n cheese as sides. Everything is above outstanding! Huge portions and the most reasonable prices ever. Cornbread is included and delicious. We will make a trip back even if it's out of the way for this special gem of a place where it's nice to feel like you're a part of the south. Truly magnificent spot. Don't be afraid of the large crowds as they are used to it and move everyone along quickly to be seated. read more

Our order was taken within 15 minutes of sitting but our server didn't come check on us after the kitchen brought our food out until we called the manager over. My daughter and her boyfriend ( they live in NYC) always crave fried okra and good Southern veggies when the opportunity arises so when in Alabama for the Georgia game( Go Dawgs!) we asked other fans from Alabama for suggestions ( Roll Tide!) and off we went! The Turkey and dressing was excellent and the fried okra was definitely worth the trip. I thought the catfish was a little overcooked, but it was still tasty. We are known to order quite a few items off the menu and our server kept commenting on the amount of food we were ordering. I can only remember one other time that has happened to us when we traveled together. She just would not stop. She wasn't calling us chubby or anything, just kept saying things like y'all must be hungry and are you sure you want that much food? Excuse me, isn't this a restaurant?? Annoying to say the least. We often travel from Helena to enjoy the great food and service at Blue Plate. I travel a lot and I have never tasted onion rings as good as the ones at Blue Plate. They are the best. I ordered the chicken salad plate. It came with a large scoop of chicken salad and 4 types of fruit. The chicken salad tasted like it had been made with Miracle Whip. So sweet it just wasn't fit to eat. It was also the finest shredded chicken possible. Others at the table couldn't believe it was chicken. The fruit tasted like the container it had been stored in. Awful! Lucky for me, my companion ordered onion rings and fried pickles. That was my lunch. I would go back just for those. Service was very attentive. Plenty of corn bread, and beverages. First I gave this a 3 star because I do t care for fried food. My friends suggested this place. The restaurant was clean, the waitress was amazing and everyone was friendly. Very family friendly restaurant. I had fried pork chops. I thought the were pan fried in butter, but they were deep fried with a tempura type batter. Mashed potatoes and boiled Lima beans. I go because I love chicken livers and very few places sell them, so not only do I get my fix, I also get fresh, home made veggies to go along with it. I love the okra, cabbage, black eyed peas, and of course, the cobbler. Yes, you can get a dessert as a side (ain't it wonderful!!). Just this morning (11/17/25) I called Blueplate and ordered a half pan of creamed corn for a Thanksgiving luncheon at my job. When arrived to pick it up, they could not find the order. I spoke to a guy when I placed the order at 8:45 am, told him I was from the State Troopers office on Skyland, and he told me the total was $36.90. I called my order in and I was able to pick it up in their drive thru. I love convenience! I didn't go inside but I imagine the ambience to be very warm, welcoming, and the local feel. The customer service I received via phone and in the drive thru defined Souther hospitality. On this particular day I was craving a fish fry so I ordered the fried catfish and shrimp along with okra and macaroni and cheese. Every single thing was fried to perfection and seasoned flawlessly. The macaroni was a 3 out of 5 for me, but being from the south means macaroni is always up for debate. Regardless, I ate everything in its entirety. I had a taste for catfish today so since I was in Northport I decided on Blue Plate. Omg the best decision! I got the fried catfish, turnip greens and purple hull peas. The fish was piping hot and tasted so good. The veggies were delicious. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a home cooked meal from a restaurant. Today on a Monday at lunch it was extremely busy. The wait went by pretty quick- well maybe 15 minutes. I ordered the chicken Parmesan and baby Lima beans with mashed potatoes. The baby limas were great and the potatoes. The cornbread was sweet and soft. The chicken Parmesan was a mistake for me to order. It was the days special as was spaghetti- The sauce on the chicken was extremely sweet. It near about made me sick it was so sweet. I will never order that again or the spaghetti because the sauce is too sweet!! If you like it sugary then get it. I like my sauces a lot more tangy and so less sweet!! The waitress was attentive but not overbearing. Very nice. We will probably go back but steer clear from sauces like that!! Oh- and I had a piece or garlic bread on my plate that I bit into and the greasy butter oozed in my mouth. It was half drenched in butter or oil. Too greasy and couldn't eat. read more

We eat there most every time we're in Tuscaloosa,ALABAMA. Great home cooked food at a great price. The service and people there couldn't be more helpful or nicer. They also have a drive through restaurant if you call ahead, then just roll through and take it home with you for dinner. We do that quite often too when we have our little dog with us. Love the laid back atmosphere and all the old posters like James Dean at the women's restroom. There's many more things all around that create the Ambiance. Ordered carry out from here for lunch today and was really pleased. Very tasty country cooking. They told me it'd take about 15 minutes, which was fine - my drive over there took about that long. When I arrived, there was basically a line out of the door. I guess it was Sunday and everyone was out to eat with their families! I found my way to the pickup counter and my food was ready and waiting for me. Despite the rather lengthy drive home, the food quality really did not suffer at all. I cracked my styrofoam box open on the way home to keep my food from getting soggy (and also to catch some delicious smells), so that probably helped, but I was still impressed with how well it all held up, especially since I had a fried chicken breast and French fries, which are super prone to deteriorate quickly. Portion sizes were generous and I was quite full when I was done. Again, I ordered the fried chicken breast, French fries, and Mac and cheese. They tossed in some pieces of cornbread, too. The cornbread was pretty dry and not too flavorful, but I pretty much only like my dad's cornbread. I'll have to ask for biscuits next time. The macaroni and cheese was decent, but definitely the weak link, as it was a little bland. The fries, though, were really good: thick-cut steak fries with good seasoning. Crispy edges and a soft, potatoey inside. And the fried chicken! A huge piece, very crunchy and juicy, with great flavor. I'd love to eat it again! Try explaining paying $1.79 for an extra side order of beans only to have both cups half full. If I pay an extra $3.58, please be fair with giving me $3.58 worth of beans........If I hadn't been headed to the airport, I would have taken them back. $51.00+ spent on my food.
