If I could give negative stars, I would. I came into this salon with healthy hair and a simple request. Highlights. What I left with was a chemical war zone on my scalp and hair that looked like it had been through a haunted car wash. The stylist completely botched my color. It was patchy, uneven, and flat-out fried. I looked like a spaghetti squash that had been left out in the sun. Worse. I went back to give them a chance to fix it and it somehow got even worse. The stylist acted like they had never seen a toner in their life and honestly seemed like they were not in a sober state to be handling bleach or scissors or any other living creature for that matter. I ended up going to another salon just to undo the damage and they were horrified at what had been done to my hair. After spending over six hundred dollars and enduring two appointments from hell, my hair is still damaged beyond repair. Think straw with commitment issues. Do yourself a favor. If you value your hair, your time, or your dignity, run in the opposite direction. This place should come with a warning label and a fire extinguisher. read more

I visited them last week (1/23/18) and I am disappointed in this place. I was excited to find an Aveda salon so close to my new home. I thought this would be my go-to salon. I had winter dried hair and split ends and wanted a good 2-3 inch trim and to keep my layers. Now my hair is 5-6 inches shorter which is not a big deal to me but I have clearly communicated that I wanted layers & I have no layers. Just a U-shape in the back. Sure, it looked nice the day the stylist cut my hair and took 40 minutes to style it but I am a get up and go to work person who spends days often in a hardhat so I always go for the layers because it is effortless to make it look nice. Now I must wait it out while my hair grows longer and I will go back to my old stylist near my old home in Clayton. The stylist told me to come back or call her if I had any issues but I am not risking losing even more length to her. The pricing is what you would expect in an Aveda salon but the haircut not so much. Right after the haircut, I noticed the cut was uneven and she made some adjustments. Although very subtle, it is still not even. And the biggest disappointment of all was, I woke up the next day and I had split ends all over in the front. Blunt scissors? I don't know. I am not the expert. I can only speak for the results. I am sad this place didn't work out for me. read more

I moved from Tokyo where we have so many fantastic hair salons. My main guy in Tokyo was so awesome that it took me 5 months to get over him and finally got my courage to try new salon here in STL...well I wish I came here sooner!!! At this point, because of the dry air and difference in water, my hair was in a mess like I had never seen in years. Charlie the owner took my appointment in very smoothly and appointed Dominique for me. She took time to listen then got to work right away. The whole process was very relaxing, perfect amount of conversation, too, which I find it hard to find for customer service in general in the US. She recommended getting intense treatment which I still can't believe how well it worked on my hair...I mean it looks, feels and smells so so so good to the point that I can't focus on my work.lol For the cut, I told her that I'd like minimum hair cut basically just for the damanged part of my hair. Mykala always listens to me and looks through inspiration photos that I've picked, but she is also great about coming to the appointment with thoughts of her own - and now we know each other well enough that I trust her completely and always let her work her magic. I love coming to this salon because the stylists really work hard and help one another by giving opinions and suggestions when asked. I made my first visit to this salon yesterday after trying out several other salons in St. Louis to find the right "fit" for me, and this place is definitely the one. Scheduling was easy; I messaged the salon on Yelp and received an email back in a few hours. After leaving me a voicemail to schedule, the salon also texted me, which was fantastic. For actual services, I had a cut and all-over, dimensional color with Dominique. She was friendly, professional, and most importantly, HIGHLY knowledgeable about her craft. I have been searching for a stylist that would "give it to me straight" about my hair: What's the best color blonde for my skin tone? What cut best flatters my face? When am I going to have to sacrifice length for color? Dominique consulted me on all aspects, taught me why my hair was (mis)behaving in certain ways, and helped set some hair "goals" in terms of achieving blonde without bleach, getting more length, etc. I appreciated that so much; hair is really an art and a science, and I've been seeking that level of expertise. The end result was fantastic -- my color looked enhanced but natural (not faux/forced), and my strands were finally feeling healthy. The salon is also adorable, with great decor and a bright, inviting atmosphere. I was offered coffee, tea, beer, wine, water, etc., and had a great display of wonderful Aveda products to shop from (nothing was ever "pushed" on me, either). I love Charlie and his salon. I've been to him probably five times for cuts and two times for color since discovering his place. His haircuts and color are always what I ask for and my hair looks great not just the day of service but for months afterward. Plus the prices are really reasonable. I've searched for a good stylist for years across multiple cities and I've finally found the person who can give me "dream hair." For what it's worth I've been wearing my wavy hair naturally curly for over a year and Charlie is great at cutting it so it accentuates the waves.
