I'm not sure what you call Drive. A gym is the place you enthusiastically strut to on the first of every January for a few weeks towards an hour long elliptical routine, and then only attend sporadically during the year to check-in so your Facebook friends can be jealous that you are "working out" and they are at home on Facebook. Drive is not a gym. Drive is family. Drive is community, coming together for the common goal of living healthier lives in my opinion. My husband Frank and I have been members for over a year after being referred by a friend (thank you Karen!) and previously waisting money on countless gyms throughout our lives. We are both highly motivated people living busy lives who made time for the gym, but that was only half the battle. We needed a place that would set us up for success and push us to our limits on day 1, and drive us past them on day 2. While you can certainly come and workout on the cardio machines alone, nearly everyone takes full advantage of the classes which is what makes this place so special. We've done hot yoga, power yoga, deep stretch and a few of the many other yoga classes. We've taken classes with Jake, Becky and Taylor and they are fantastic. As newbies, it was great having instructors that tailor classes to support newbies as well as all-stars. They remind you that there is no perfect way of doing yoga, it's a practice and you have to do what feels right for your body. The other classes each have a unique focus. Whether you want to build muscle, focus on core areas, or burn calories and fat. Synergy and Fuel with Matt and Tony are two of my favorite since you often do 40 or so exercises (and then you do them all over again). So when you feel like you can't do another rep, you are onto the next exercise that focuses on another muscle group allowing you to workout harder than I personally ever thought I could. They offer classes as early as 4:30am and into the evening which helps meet everyone's different schedules. Though personally, hell will probably freeze over before you catch me at a 4:30am. As someone who is notoriously terrible at remembering names, I'm mesmerized at the ability of all the trainers and staff to know everyone's name. I've even see people brand new to the gym who all the team members already call by name from day one. It makes such a difference, since when you're in class in your zone, and you hear a trainer call out your name with direction and guidance or a personable hello or goodbye from Joan and the rest of the staff. If your budget allows, I recommend trying out their personal trainers, whether small group or one-on-one. In particular, I highly recommend Matt, who my husband and I and friends have loved working out with. He's supportive of your goals, and holds your accountable to meet those goals. Before Matt, I settled for the idea, that I would never be able to do certain exercises or lift certain amounts of weights. He has pushed me farther than I thought possible and the classes are a great compliment to holistic training. The owner's are incredibly personable and welcoming. Tony and Jake are very active in the local community as well as the fitness community. From training high school sports teams to Salem's Fire Department, they are becoming and integral member of the community. Along with running the successful business and giving back to the community, they somehow also find time to teach countless classes throughout the week without breaking a sweat. Well, strike that, we all break a massive sweat at Drive, but it adds to the ambiance. Tony has been known for saying, "It doesn't get easier, you get stronger." It may sound like lip service, until that day in class when you find yourself saying, "Wow, this is finally getting easier," but then you look at the number of weights and realize it's actually getting harder, and you are getting stronger. They have a brand new location is unbelievable. The last location was good, and overall we could have worked out anywhere because it was the trainers and fellow Drivers who made it so successful. Everyone made the best of it, though it became clearer that while we were being worked out to our extremes the location was also limiting potential, space wise. While I think we all would have been happy with just minor improvements, Drive instead built a brand new location that feels like it belongs in Boston. But fortunately you don't have to worry about the typical snooty people that fill up some high end Boston gyms, because at Drive in my experience everyone who steps in there is there to work, and far too busy to have an attitude. Also, where most gyms are full of strangers, since Drive is more like a family, I find people treat each other more like one, since they know they will be seeing those same people day and in and out. Whether you call it a gym, a wellness center, or jokingly a cult, all I can say is, call it, because your body and soul deserves it. read more

Today was my first one on one training with Trevor and I'll be honest at first I was a little anxious and embarrassed because I have stoped going to the gym and was out of shape , but Trevor for some reason made me feel good about myself and made me love my first day . I am so thankful for finding a personal trainer that helps you feel good about your own inner and outer self , makes you want to get out of your comfort zone more and more, takes you through all the exercises step by step and you can tell that he is their to help you achieve your goals . I am beyond excited to see what the training future holds for my health and my body . Also, drive custom fit is beyond amazing in every aspect from professionals and staffs, to the organization and clean gym , to the music environment , to the training equipments and classes , everything you can possible imagine they have it all . Great gym and trainers, but if you want to leave they become money grubbers. Notify them on the 10th to cancel like the front desk told me, and I get an email saying I needed to send a certified letter and I'm going to be charged for the next month. Like an email isn't good enough today in a technological world. What they are doing is making it HARD to leave, and the front desk should have told me that when I asked. I'm sure they are told not to so they can get an "extra" month of payment from you. After being a loyal and happy member for over 2 years, this is how I'm treated, and that speaks volumes to me. Many trainers who were at this gym when I started told me management was horrible. Now I'm seeing this first hand. How you treat your employees and customers should be first priority. In my email back to them I told them to Be Better. Not sure they can be. Every day I go from now until they kick me out I'll be letting management (if they show up) that they need to be better. read more

The best fitness gym by far! The group class system this gym has produced can't be compared to any. The gym is new, modern and VERY clean. Based around 10+ different types of classes, there something for everyone! For myself I take them all - cardio, weights, heated, yoga, etc. They even have a typical 'gym floor' for those who want to pop in without a scheduled class. Class sizes are big, around 40, which creates such amazing motivation between everyone. Class-takers are always so nice and willing to help out anyone! Don't walk... run to this gym! I joined Drive Custom fit 2 years ago and it is truly an amazing place. Through their incredible programs I've gotten in the best shape of my life at 49 years old ! I really appreciate the education and care that I get there. I've learned so much and am mentally much tougher than ever. Before coming to drive I really had no idea how to do most exercises correctly and didn't know what half of them even were. In class you don't just go through the motions. The trainers care to make sure you are doing each exercise correctly and they also make it REALLY motivating and fun. There is no better gym around !!! Check it out !!! read more

I have been a member for just over a year. Drive has become so over crowded I am considering leaving. 58 people in a class is dangerous. We trip over each other and people are getting hurt. It's too slippery in heated classes with that many bodies in a room. Its so crowded every class is jumping vertically to get heart rates up. This causes over use injuries quickly. We need to be able to MOVE not just jump. Drive you have such a good product but you are losing sight of the members needs and health in a quest to get big fast. Please make classes safe again. read more

This is not your normal gym! There is something for everyone here from fee weights, to training classes, and even yoga to soothe your soul. The place is immaculate and clean and the staff is friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Members are also extremely friendly and always willing to help out a newbee like me. Stopped in to buy a snack. Two guys behind the counter neither show interest in asking how they could help me. A member walks out and one of the staff talks to him about his workout and the other walks away. After the member leaves, the staff member still ignores until I stand smack in front of him. He looks at me and says nothing. I stare back and say hi. Nothing back. I start to order something but instead say forget it, I'm all set. Keep up the bad, non-customer service and I'll end up seeing you at my place of work, looking for a job. read more

Drive is unlike any gym in the area. If you want to make drastic, positive changes to your health and well being, this is the place to go. That said, be prepared to WORK. The classes are tough and will challenge you. If you are new to the gym, get to class early to understand what is happening. The classes can be overwhelming at first, but what's great about Drive and the people who go there is that you can feel comfortable asking the instructor or the person next to you what to do. The instructors are highly trained individuals who meticulously plan out each class in advance to target certain areas. They have boot camp programs where you work with nutritionists who will build a nutrition program that will directly correlate to your work outs. You have to stick to this plan and track everything. This gym teaches you to understand how to treat your body. It is loud and sometimes crowded, but crowded with people who want to be the best possible versions of themselves. Good people work at Drive and good people work out at Drive. If you start at Drive and you just trust the process and work hard, you will see incredible results. read more

I was a member back when this gym was starting out. The instructors knew you by name and the other members were friendly. Fast forward two years to the new and improved facility....poster child for "I pick things up. I put them down." Unless you can bench press 500 lbs., you are invisible to the staff and treated rudely by other members. I truly loved this gym, but had to cancel my membership (to the tune of a $99 fee!) out of disgust for the obnoxious, self-absorbed place it has become. The two other 1 star reviews are 100% accurate. They tell you exactly how average people and "non-elite" are treated. read more

He simply wrote to contact that person at that number without saying thank you for replying to his website. Let me preface this by stating .. This is NOT a "gym" or "workout club". Drive is a community. A home where every member is welcoming and helpful.. The front desk staff are always smiling and the trainers/instructors are learning. Yes, learning... Imagine going to workout.. You decide to take a class.. You walk in and hide in the back as the newbie.. Ahhh. Your safe zone. But before you get to the back of that class you're quickly being introduced to the class instructor/trainer or a seasoned member. " hi I'm "j" how are you?" Wait, what? Someone is talking to me. Yes. This is drive. Where the members welcome you, the trainers/instructors, train you (oh and not by you following them but they actually teach and correct form during class all while taking a mental note of your abilities/strengths/weaknesses). Drive is a community of people who love what they do and share what they love. I'm not going to lie, the classes are definitely intense, but there is definitely no judgement here. A perfect balance of fitness training, yoga and nutritional counseling. Go. Go and get your DRIVE! read more
