My husband signed up the family to get their Real IDs. He booked us about 4-6 weeks ago in the late afternoon. The website shared a detailed list of what each of us needed to have an ID made, adult and child. We arrived a few minutes early and the front door was locked but quickly answered by their security officer. No walk-ins, only appointments. We stood in a small line to be checked in and have our documents reviewed. Unfortunately my husband's birth certificate documents weren't official, only hospital-specific. He couldn't apply for his Real ID but the clerk gave him a site to request a copy of his birth certificate plus a "fast pass" to visit again without an appointment. He was able to fill out the request online and the documents will arrive soon. My sons and I were taken back almost immediately. Documents are reviewed, info entered, picture taken and info reviewed again. It took about 10 minutes per person. The lady assisting us was very friendly. Since the boys are underage I also had to show my identification to register them. We left with a temporary print out of the license, on paper. She punched a hole in my current ID and stapled it to the paper. I was told it worked as my license until my official one comes in the mail. (The next day someone hit my car in a parking lot and the officer vouched for it being legit for all purposes) It's a little odd not being able to put the license in my wallet but easy enough to move the paper from purse to purse. This spot is hectic! We had a good experience here and were seen right away. Book in advance! Private parking lot available with plenty of parking.

These workers are genuinely some of the most rude and unprofessional people I have met. I am not from Kentucky but am here currently as a student. I was told by several people at the DMV that I don't need a Kentucky license as long as I also have my student ID to prove student status. I recently bought a car in which they shared I do need a Kentucky ID, but not a license. So, I come here and they tell me differently that I do need a Kentucky license. I become frustrated because I've been told differently. I will acknowledge I made a comment to myself that expressed frustration (but not at all towards the workers, I understand it's not their fault directly). I explain who told me this information and the woman is extremely rude to me. She asks me a rhetorical question about when I graduate and says in an extremely demeaning tone "then you are a resident here." Yes, I'm aware, but I am on student status and everyone else I've spoken with has stated that to me as well. I let it go, give them my documents and sit down. As I'm sitting, I got curious and decided to google whether I could keep my current ID from my home state. On the Kentucky drivers website, it confirmed what the DMV told me. I politely asked about this and the woman who was initially helping me (different than the extremely rude woman, this particular woman was very nice) and she went to get someone who I presume was a manager. I explain the situation to him as well and attempt to show him on THEIR website. He does not even look at it and says "that's not true it's probably not updated." I said "okay, well someone should probably update that then.." and he walked away from me... the cherry on the top was when I arrived to the window for my license, the woman was nice enough at first. Until, she got a FaceTime that she answered while I was sitting there... she's talking to this person and then she asked me a question that I didn't hear, so I apologized and asked her to repeat the question and she threw her phone down and repeated in an extremely demeaning tone. I am easily stressed, but not easily angered. I work with people every day and try to be as polite as possible, especially to any customer service type people. I understand these offices are always busy and have to be efficient and work quickly, but that doesn't warrant blatant unprofessionalism. I will travel to anywhere else in Kentucky for ID services should I need them before I graduate.

Government building located in the city of hurstbourne community of Lousiville Kentucky that specializes in driver licenses needs and requirements. I recently was surprised to find that my driver license had indeed expired. The two places I've always went to in the past no longer do this process so this location was the closest one I could find. On the very unclear website I found a phone number for here last week and called to make sure if I came here that I was going to the right spot to get a new license picture and renew the license. They said yes but no walk ins and online appointments only . The appointments were all booked up a week out. So I took the earliest one available. I arrive on time to a 10am appointment and find out they are already an hour behind on appointments they made a week out. They open at 8am so being an hour behind that early is truly a very skilled deficiency that most these small government buildings have mastered. You walk in and there is a small table with a worker there who checks your appointment time and tells you to have a seat. This place was filthy. Absolutely the dirtiest carpet I've ever seen in my life for a business. They should be embarrassed. Yes we had some ice storms last Thursday . But it's Monday morning. Get a cleaning crew. Maybe this extra charge for the "real id" they are squeezing citizens for will help pay for a quality clean. After about 40 min past my appointment I was called back by a gentleman who was doing all the running and working it seemed. He takes me to the back and I speak to the clerk who was very nice and friendly. The door greeter originally after about and hour of some peoples wait time said "cash only". So when the clerk told me debit or credit only I was kinda surprised. Anyways Kentucky is instituting a real id policy starting in may 2023. Where you have to bring in a birth certificate, your social security card and two pieces of mail that identify your current address in the past calendar year. This real id will be the only way you can enter government buildings and fly on airplanes starting in may 2023. Despite knowing This change they still are selling standard id's at a 4 or 8 year expiration date (I took the 8 so I don't have to do this again in 4 years). I did not have my birth certificate or two pieces of mail so I will have to come back and get the Real Id if I want to fly in the next year. The clerk did explain that even with me getting a standard Id now that if I come back with the other info and pay the extra $15 they will just convert my current Id. So I paid the $48 and got the 8 year license that despite saying 8 years expires in 2028 (math isn't my strong suit but that's 6 years from now). So they take my picture and print off a temp license and staple it to my old expired one and say my new license will arrive in 2-3 weeks. Which is also weird because in the past they always printed on site. Not sure how they got an hour behind 2 hours into a work day if they aren't even printing stuff. Oh well it's a government building what can you do about it? Overall I always joke that getting your tags renewed, license changed, etc is always like entering purgatory. This place was purgatory that was also ran inefficiently and was dirty. So kudos to this location for making things even more difficult, gross and confusing . That was a feat that I would of called impossible 4 years ago. But they managed it. Can't wait to see the regressions they make in 8...errr 6 years from now.

3 hour wait and then told they would not see us today.

How can I make an appointment at Hurstbourne office?

You have to act very very fast as soon as appointments open. They fill up in minutes. Your best bet is to go an hour before open time and stand in line, it moves fast at the beginning.

There were 4 workers that I could tell and they were processing through the customers quickly. I only waited about 10 minutes and my time at the window was less than 5 minutes. Friendly service. Efficient service. I always feel the same when I leave, relieved and impressed. I have never had a problem here. Two thumbs up!!

No one *likes* going to government buildings to do government things. I might even venture to say…read morethat it's one of the punishments of adulthood. Such is life. That said, the Westport branch of the county clerk made the experience much less painful for me today. I walked into a ticketing system, plenty of spaces out semi-comfortable seating, and a less than 10 minute wait. Not a bad start! I had a variety of things I needed to get done at the county clerks office today - new yearly car tags, an address change, and a ghost registration of a vehicle that no longer belongs to me to get taken off my record. Needless to say, I was not the 'easy' client on this trip. Shaun helped me get everything situated and we even commiserated over car fees and taxes. Hard to stick it to 'the man' when 'the man's' representative agrees that this is a painful process! I can't give 5 stars, it's the clerks office and I just can't bring myself to do it. 5 stars would have been avoiding this trip altogether and I didn't quite get to do that this year. But I can stand behind 4 stars for low wait times, comfortable spaced seating, pleasant personnel, and especially Shaun who helped me through the process and got me back out the door quickly. Keep up the good work y'all!
