Nobody likes the DMV, it's why it's the butt of so many jokes. However, this was by far the best experience I have ever had at one. We showed up at 7:30am and started lining up at the door at 7:50am, no appointment. Quickly, a line formed behind us and I'm glad we got there when we did. I was at kiosk 3 and my husband was at 4. The lady working at the front desk was wonderful. She was apologetic that I didn't have enough acceptable paperwork but she gave me a form that listed what was acceptable. My husband's clerk told him the wrong things that my clerk did say was okay, which left us both in confusion. My clerk told me to come back with everything and she will help again. My husband's clerk? Didn't say to come back to him. Two totally different experiences! A trip to the library to print more papers off and a visit back to the DMV later in the day and our clerks were still there. Because my clerk told me to come back to her, we didn't have to wait for a number, we just stood behind who she was helping. She ended up helping my husband, too, even though he was with the clerk next to her. I'm telling you, 5 star service here!! Not only was she caring about the situation, she was also personable and gave us recommendations for where to eat in the area. I'm not sure if she's always at desk 3 and I wish I had her name...but she made a positive impact and I would absolutely go back to her again. read more

One of the most efficient DMVs I've been to! I didn't have an appointment so I got there 15 minutes before opening. There were about 20 people in front of me in line. As soon as they opened they let people inside and a greeter will make sure you have the right documents then direct you to check in through a text system. The clerk who worked with me was super nice and helpful. All-in-all I was there for about an hour and 15 minutes which is not bad for a walk-in at the DMV. Building was also super clean, clean bathrooms and plenty of seating. read more

The DMV in Lebanon was one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. The woman working the front door, Miss More, was shockingly rude and condescending from the moment we walked in. Three of us entered at the same time, and instead of greeting us professionally, she repeatedly barked, "What can I do for you? What can I do for you?" in an aggressive tone. The person in front of me was clearly trying to get their infant situated, yet she continued raising her voice instead of showing basic patience or courtesy. Since I was third in line, I assumed she was addressing the first two individuals. When no one immediately responded, she turned to me with visible irritation and repeated the question with attitude. After asking for my documents, I handed her my folder. She then snapped at me to remove everything from it myself, again in a raised, hostile tone. There was absolutely no professionalism, no courtesy and no attempt at respectful communication. Customer service at a government facility should reflect professionalism and respect for the public. Instead, this experience felt unnecessarily combative and demeaning. I genuinely believe someone representing the state of Tennessee in a front facing role should demonstrate far better interpersonal skills. I would rather drive all the way to Nashville to receive competent and courteous service than return to this location. The poor reviews now make perfect sense. I would not recommend this DMV to anyone. read more

No matter what you are doing, whether you have an appointment or not, you will wait more than an or more after you arrive. make the drive Murfreesboro and you will be seen quickly, without a doubt. I got tired of waiting for an hour and a half, left the Lebanon location and showed up to the Murfreesboro location, had no appointment, an was seen in 15 minutes. read more

I made an appointment ahead of time at this DMV location. I'd never been to this one and had low expectations because I've always had such negative experiences. I showed up about 15 minutes early to find the lobby packed full. I signed in for my appointment through a QR code on a sign just inside the entrance and was almost immediately called to a desk for my appointment! The attendant was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. I was out of there before my official appointment time would have even started. The entire exchange took about 5 minutes. I will definitely be coming back here for all future DMV appointments! read more

It was horrible here. The workers are so mean, and they yelling at you if you're doing something wrong. We were having a trouble with documents, and they couldn't even explain what they need, and we came back 3 times. It's a very bad customer service, I've never seen anything like that in my entire life. There is no support for those who's trying to take tests for the first time or to those who's trying to fix their document. I hate the DMV... especially coming from CA. Not here... I was able to make an appt online. I got there early and tried to check in through their kiosk but you can only check in within 15 mins of your appt. Once I was checked in, they called me within mins. If you come with all the necessary documents, you're in and out within 15 mins. The lady that helped me was nice... she made a mistake when I reviewed the document and had her correct it. But I was still out of there within 15 mins. It really couldn't be easier. read more

In regards to the facility itself it's very clean and very efficient. The greater at the door, the gentleman is very helpful. It also seemed that people were processed very quickly. However, my experience was terrible with the representative. I wish there would have been a name tag, but there wasn't she was young had long caramel color hair and she twisted her hair a lot She never smiled never greeted me. She was rude. She was impatient and very, very very unkind. She has no business representing that facility, and especially not a tax paying citizen of Tennessee!! Fire her immediately I also noticed that the phone calls she received. She was rude over the phone as well. A little kindness and patience goes a long way and especially if you're getting a real ID and you're trying to have everything that is required only to get there to find out that the website is giving incorrect information so between the people that set up the website for the information for the real ID, the person such as myself that is having to have this process done not because we choose to because we have to only to be told by her it's going to take 45 days for me to get the hard copy and when I asked if I have to fly before that 45 days will I be able and she said you will have to call the airlines and find out she was very unfriendly and very rude!! read more

I had to renew my concealed carry permit here and expected it to take hours. The staff showed me exactly where to go. I was in and out in about 30 minutes! Unbelievably great experience! There were several others there. I was there on the first day of the month. Not sure if I just got lucky or what. read more

UPDATE: We had to go back a 5th time because THEY SPELLED MY DAUGHTER'S NAME WRONG!!!! Absolutely unreal! What a complete joke this place is. If you can at all help it, go some place else! Absolutely worthless! They are the least helpful people I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. We were in 4 times before we were able to provide all the documents they were asking for. Couldn't tell us what we needed the first time we went in...that would be too helpful. My 17 year old has a valid ID, valid passport and the same last name as my husband and me. No where on the list of required documents did it say she needed a birth certificate AND another form of ID. So after they inform us we need the birth certificate we drive all the way home and come back and they tell us she needs her diploma. ARE YOU FOR FREAKING REAL?! And then they want to act like it's my fault they didn't tell us the 2nd time we were there. And horrible experience from start to finish! I hope I NEVER have to go back there again read more

I have never had a bad experience at the Hart Lane Center (or the other license bureaus on Clarksville Hwy, Centennial Blvd or Old Hickory in Madison). Staff have been professional and handled their business. Today was exceptional though because they have a tenured staff member at a table who is taking people as they enter and directing them and letting them know if they have all the right forms. She is clear about her expertise and calm and personable. When she had to redirect people, she did so in a respectful way. It was a welcome change from just going to a kiosk. read more

Well, I'll start with the only good thing: the people were nice. From there on, nothing but a deep slope downwards! I went in to transfer my license from CA license to a TN one. I walked in and signed in to the machine they have next to the counters. The machine asked if I'd like to be texted when my number was called... well I looked around and there were no available seats so I decided to have them text me so I could go sit in my car and wait. I had read it would be about a 3 hour wait so I anticipated airing a long time! An hour passed, 2 hours passed, so I wanted to go inside and just check on things. I stood there for a half hour before I realized how fat past my number they were. I got closer to the desk just in time to hear one of the workers tell a lady and her daughter that the text on the machine isn't hasn't been working and that they aren't allowed to put a sign up. So I pulled another number, got called in 10 mins, and from that point I had to wait about 3 hours... for a total of 5 hours at this place. There has got to be a more beneficial way to do this? Because the average working person can't afford missing work and sitting around for hours! Big yikes! read more

Nice people. It is the state of Tennessee that needs to take a look at the problems of just getting an appointment for a driving test. Not ONE appointment was available in the state for 4-6 weeks, depending on the county. Yes, you can go to any county in TN to go from learner's permit to drivers license, but it was still 4-6 weeks out. They have "walk-in" Wednesday's, but you must arrive at 6:30 AM to stand in the heat, rain or whatever until 8:30 for the doors to open. And we got worked in around appointments! They must've made those appts. 4- 6 weeks ago. Finale: He got called to drive at 9:53. The people beside me said they had an appt. at 9:30. I guess the DMV runs behind even for appointments! read more

Utterly CRAP service. Tiny office. Poor POOR customer service skills/management. Save yourself 2.5 hours and go to the DMV in Murfreesboro. My wife and I were in and out of the Boro's DMV in less than 15 minutes on the SAME DAY that Lebanon said it could be up to 3 hours wait. Got into line to check in and had 3/4 ahead of me. Nice pleasant conversation while they checked me into the system(the clerk had a trainee with her, a young guy with great hair). That was the conversation starter and I guess compliments go a long way. I had ticket D149, the numbers they were calling about 5 minutes after I sat down were in the 128-130 range. That probably meant a 1 hour+ wait. When the check in line went to zero the lady that had been checking in folks called my name and began processing my application for a concealed carry permit. I paid the $100, got my receipt and instructions on how to get a fingerprint appointment and was out of there in 20 minutes or so. read more

Zong is by far the least helpful least caring person I've ever encountered... the process of going to the dmv is already painful enough and the woman makes it so much worse. Oh and also why do I take a ticket In order to get the general form that everyone fills out and then have to wait and be called again? Just let us have the form when we get there!! And I would give them 5 stars but the lady who was helping me at the desk was so rude to me..like didn't even try to be nice at all. My husband and I arrived at 8:03 this morning and stood in line waiting for the office to open at 8:30. Once inside it took only one hour for the whole process to renew both of our drivers licenses with the gold star. The staff was very helpful and efficient and professional. I would recommend prior to going that you review the needed documents for the new license as I was totally prepared because of it. read more

I live in Nashville and wanted to avoid one of the congested local DMV's so I drove out to Lebanon to get a new license. The drive was worth it. I was in and out of there within 15 minutes. So, I needed to get a TN driver's license. I just moved to Nashville, in the city, and I asked a neighbor where the nearest driver's services center was and he referred me to the one in East Nashville on Hart Lane. I though, hmm, Monday morning should be a good time to get this task done. Wrong! The crowd looked like the bar scene from Star Wars and the wait, just to get a number, was easily an hour. One hapless "customer" told me he got there before it opened and still waited three hours. And people say the DMV in CA is bad! Well, I spoke with someone later that day and he suggested that I take a nice drive east on the 40 to Lebanon's center. So, Tuesday morning I headed to Lebanon. I walked up to the counter and a nice man told me I had all that I needed and, after a 15 minute wait, a cheerful rep handled my eye test and application quickly and I paid my $16 and was on my way. I know that a 5-star rating may seem excessive for a DMV office, but, considering the alternatives and the Soviet-esque grimness of the Hart Lane facility, it's certainly well earned! read more
