The staff is very friendly and do not keep you waiting. The hamburgers are the best I've ever had.

There is an advanced process but it's straight forward and online. If you already have the TSA Pre Check, you have already done a lot of the heavy lifting. The final step is to go to the local US Customs and Immigration to show up, show your face, bring your passport and a valid driver's license, get finger printed and confirm some details and right there on the spot, you get your number and confirmation. By the time I got back to the office, I received an email with an attachment confirming all. Boom! Now waiting for my card in the mail. The card is good for 5 years. I actually wouldn't mind doing this more often--it was that pleasant. One of the best federal government interactions I have possibly ever had. On time, professional, exceptional service. Tip: If you travel a fair bit like I do, get this number into all your travel profiles, upload it to your Southwest and American Airlines profiles, everywhere you can--pronto.

I came here to transfer my Georgia driver's license to Tennessee and somehow a straightforward…read morevisit turned into over four and a half hours. I arrived around 11:14 a.m. and didn't leave until 3:50 p.m. The initial hour wait was expected and wasn't the issue. Once I was called, I found out I was given the wrong ticket, processed for the wrong credential, and had my last name misspelled despite the correct spelling being on my Georgia license and every document I provided. After catching the mistakes myself, I spent more than three additional hours waiting for them to be corrected while new customers continued being helped. Eventually, a supervisor had to step in because the employee couldn't fix the issue, and even then it took multiple attempts. I understand waiting at the DMV, but over four and a half hours because of preventable employee errors is completely different. When you're handling someone's legal identification, basic accuracy and attention to detail should not be too much to ask. The unsanitary facility didn't make the experience any better. The waiting area smelled strongly of body odor, the seats had questionable stains all over them, and the bathrooms looked like what I imagine a jail bathroom would look like. I also watched a Spanish-speaking woman struggle to communicate while the employee assisting her became increasingly frustrated with the poor woman, who had no one there to help her. Instead of trying to find someone who could assist, the employee just kept repeating the same thing over and over in a more annoyed tone each time. Another Spanish-speaking man was having a similar experience. I finally took it upon myself to go into the waiting room and find someone who could help. Go figure, I was able to flag down two Spanish-speaking employees who could assist them, meaning help was available the entire time. The other employees could have easily done the same instead of repeatedly speaking to customers with language barriers in an increasingly frustrated and condescending manner. Watching employees continue to repeat themselves as though these customers simply weren't understanding, rather than finding the Spanish-speaking assistance that was readily available, was extremely disappointing. For a government facility serving the public, there should be far more patience, professionalism, and effort to make sure everyone can access the services they came there for. A government facility serving the public should be clean, organized, professional, and prepared to assist people facing language barriers with patience and respect. This location needs serious improvement in employee training, customer service, cleanliness, and attention to detail!

The name derives from the mud and log inn at the crossroads where early 19th century travelers found rest and refreshment. Mud Tavern later became a lively rural community, with a railway stop, schools, post office, and general store, which thrived until overtaken by 20th century commercial development. Kind of a bummer to see ages past and the way things used to be.

Often this site is confused with the historic Fort Buchanan about 3 miles away on Elm Hill Pike from the historic Buchanan Log House The historic Buchanan Log House was built in 1808 by James Buchanan (1763-1841); he married and lived & died in this Log home. A renewal isn't free since only the state portion is waived, but that'll make your car tag only about $61 with the 2% credit card fee. When I asked why, the clerk didn't know but I had no complaints.... Any discount is GREAT! I learned that you can only renew tags for others ONLY if the tag has expired within 90 days. Any older expirations will need the registered owner to come in person and renew their own tags. So I was unable to give a gift of tag renewal which would have been a "novel" and unorthodox Christmas present. Another fun fact I learned was that TN Residents can go to any Driver License station in ANY COUNTY! I suppose getting rid of emissions testing was the best thing for efficiency They close at 4:30pm so I recommend coming in by 4pm in case there's a line. Since there were only about 2 other customers already being served, the security officer took me straight to a customer service representative at an available window. Everyone there was very pleasant and I was in and out so quickly.
