Respectfully, this should be one of your very last options. I'm actually very financially savvy, just used to mess around with money when I was younger and wound up with some blemishes on my credit report. I tried a couple of other dealers but got hit with "this is the only car on the lot you can have AND your payment is almost $500/ month." That's how I wound up at DriveTime. Because I said if I was going to have a high payment, I was at least going to drive a car I wanted. So anyway, I purchased my car 6 years ago, pre-COVID. I knew my APR was ridiculously high. Before even purchasing the car, my plan was to pay on the car and also work on my credit so that I could try to refinance the car with a lower APR in a year or two. Well, COVID happened and we all know how that went. So yeah, long story short- the APR kicked my butt on this car. I had to do a couple of modifications due to the times. Now I'm sitting on a car that I owe a crap ton more than it's even worth. For what I've paid in interest, I could have had a whole new car. Now I need a $4k repair which isn't even worth it given what I owe, the age of the car/ what it's worth, and the mileage. After talking to a couple of dealerships, consensus seems to be that a quite a few people get stuck in these atrocious Drive Time loans because of how desperate they are. Drive Time knows their market but this business is VERY morally gray. read more

Avoid Drive Direct if you value honesty and professionalism. I initially spoke with Pierre Gambrell about a specific vehicle (Stock #KR204323, white Ford Fusion Hybrid, ~108k miles). He told me it was being inspected and gave me a ballpark of $9-10k. I asked to be notified when it was listed--he never followed up. After finding the listing myself, I called back and spoke with another salesperson. I confirmed the exact vehicle (stock number, color, mileage), and everything checked out. Later, Pierre reinserted himself into the deal, stating he had to handle it since he was my original contact. From that point on, he controlled the communication. Pierre then gave me an out-the-door price. I negotiated, and we reached a clear agreement. Based on that, I was preparing to move forward. Then came the switch. I was told the price was actually $1,600 higher due to a "mistake" quoting the wrong vehicle--despite the fact that I had identified and confirmed the exact car multiple times. The new price also included questionable add-ons presented as "standard," which looked more like inflated charges than legitimate fees. This is not a simple mistake--this is a lack of transparency and accountability. It gets worse. I attempted to resolve the issue by contacting the manager, Drew Newman. Multiple calls, voicemails, and emails were ignored. No response. No attempt to make things right. That tells you everything about the leadership and standards at this dealership. If this is how they handle a basic price agreement before you even step in the door, imagine what happens once you're sitting in the finance office. Today I went to DriveTime on Morse Rd., Columbus, OH. I sat in about 20 used cars for sale. Not a single one was clean. I saw hair, crumbs, dirt, grime and stuff I have no idea of what it was. The cars all smelled terrible, like someone sprayed a can of Lysol in them. The driver's seat on several of the cars was so dirty I couldn't bring myself to even sit in them. Very disappointing. I have never seen such dirty cars on a lot. The last time I went to DriveTime a few years ago all the cars were clean. What happened? read more

HUGE MISTAKE! !!BUYER BEWARE!!! I PAID $13,000 over KBB for a car!! YES, you read that right, 13,000 above KBB value!! I'm a single female. The way I was treated should be ILLEGAL!! How can any human do this to another human?!!Once they did my credit check and verified my income, the salesman realized that I could pay way above what I told him my monthly budget for the car would be. The bank pre approved me for $13,000 above what the KBB value was . He was soaking every last penny of my income to the max. Between my home mortgage and the car payment, I would not have had enough money for bare necessities like food and toiletries. I would have had to declare bankruptcy if I hadn't returned the car. This salesman should be locked up!! How can another human being take advantage of another human being like that. Especially a single female like me. He assumed that I was naive about car buying, but he later found out I wasn't. So, I bought a vehicle from DriveTime after seeing one of their commercials. They claimed you could choose your monthly payment and that they offered many financing options. They made it sound like the car-buying process was straightforward and free of hard sales pitches. I decided to give them a try. The process began with them asking what kind of car I was looking for, and I told them. Then they asked how much I wanted to pay per month, and I shared my budget. The salesman mentioned I might need to go a couple of hundred dollars higher, which I accepted, knowing that car prices have risen significantly since my last purchase. The salesman picked a car from their inventory that matched my description and brought it to the front of the dealership. He offered me a solo test drive, during which I found the sticker price in the backseat. I liked the car and decided to buy it. The financing was set up through a bank that the dealership deals with and the salesman also used a website to find me the so called "best rate" for car insurance. He turned the computer screen around, showing me three monthly quotes for minimum state-required coverage. I chose the cheapest option. After completing over 50 pages of electronic paperwork, I spoke with an insurance agent. The actual insurance cost turned out to be over $100 more per month than quoted, but I agreed to it. In the end, my monthly car payment was $250 more than my initial budget, spread over a six-year term. I chalked this up to the dramatic rise in car prices since COVID-19. When I got home, I reviewed my financing account online and found that the LOAN PRINCIPLE was $7,000 more than the sticker price. I was also shocked to see a 25% INTEREST RATE which resulted in $5,000 in interest over six years. Checking Kelley Blue Book, I discovered the car's value was $7,000 less than the asking price and $13,000 LESS than what I paid! luckily for me, they had a 5 day return policy so I returned it the next day and everything was canceled. I bet this salesman was planning an extravagant vacation off all the commissions he would have gotten out of me. He was probably laughing so hard and high 5'ing his coworkers when I drove off the lot with that car. I am beyond angry!! We bought a 2018 Suburu Impreza in Oct 2024. Everything was great until the 1st oil change. Went to Valvoline, they said they couldnt change it because the oil pan bolt was stripped, meaning whoever changed the oil prior(DriveTime) completely ruined it. After having to suck out the old oil from the top 2x and multiple people trying to figure out a way to remove the oil pan plug, now on 3rd oil change, we finally couldn't take it anymore. I went in today, found out there's a process and can't just trade in. Process includes calling customer relations, who told me it's a personal out of pocket expense even though the car was sold to me with a patent defect that they clearly knew about!! My son was looking to purchase a car there at their west location. They made a deal that they were going to replace the brakes and rotors on the car they were selling. They gave him a quote on his trade in of just over 12,000. My son was going to be out of town for two weeks and put a hold on the car of hundred dollars. During that time they were supposed to get the work done on the car and have it ready when he came back on the 19th. They asked if they could move the car to there North location, and my son told them no. We live closer to the west location where it originally was. They moved the car to the North location anyway. We went to the North location to sign the papers. They had not changed the brakes or rotors. They jerked us around for four hours and came back with giving him two thousand less on his trade in than they agreed to just ten days before. They left us sitting there for hours before springing that bull crap on us! We ended up just walking out of there! Just a huge waste time! Unbelievable! I fully understand profit-margin, and I have seen companies formed and operated for the sole purpose of "service" to those individuals who are in difficult financial situations.... But I have never seen blatant disrespect, blatant fabrication, and such a huge scam as what I just experienced at Drive-Time Automotive on Morse Rd at Westerville Rd, here in Columbus, Ohio. I will admit, I made some bad financial choices, and circumstances left me in an unavoidable Chapter 13 bankruptcy. That being the case, I knew I would be expected to pay more (higher interest rate, specific year, mileage requirements, etc., to satisfy the trustee)... And I am not uninformed, I did my comparisons, research and worst-case scenarios... I called Drive-Time after seeing a television ad, and checking out the web site... I was told by salesman "Bill" that they certainly could help me, that they were experienced working with the local trustee, knew what I needed, and I should come in and ask for "Bill." I had explained my specific parameters as dictated by the trustee, and that I was prepared to put $1,000 down. I explained all this in detail again to "Bill" when I met him at the dealership (after a 40-minute wait). He took a credit app.. Went away... Returned with some other guy who he said was "observing" ... This guy explained my credit score... And told me they could help me with only $4500 down! And they had formulated some bi-weekly payment.... Nothing like what the trustee would want! Long story short! SCAM.... Run away, run away! read more

I live in Denver and flew out here to buy the exact car I've been looking for 4x4 in my price range. Why this place has a low star rating is beyond me. I had a phenomenal experience and knew what I was getting into prior to flying out. There was zero surprises and the process was incredibly smooth. Prior to coming out i spoke to Jared Wilson over the phone got the run down and everything sounded good so I booked an appointment to buy the car. I don't like surprises I'm not prepared for especially flying out and not being able to just go home and get what I need. So I called again just to verify everything was exactly the same. I flew out and test drive the car and it was exactly what was advertised online. The drive was smooth and you can tell they really care about the kinda of cars they purchase to resale. When I got here I was immediately greeted by their incredibly friendly and energetic staff. These people are honest, real and incredibly sweet. Everyone seemed to know me as the girl that flew in from Colorado and asked me how my flight was which was a sign to me that they listen and are attentive and caring. I was helped by a lady named Star and boy did she live up to her name. She is such a superstar with a vibrant personality. She didn't try to sell me at all she was extremely sweet and let me ask a million questions because this is the second car I will be investing in. She stepped me through everything checking to verify everything works and helped me understand everything until I was comfortable. She didn't rush me or make me feel like I was annoying. She is such a great person that listens to all your questions. So I financed a car from this location 6/29/2018, I knew going in that this was a used car dealership but I had no idea the car I had chosen would have so many problems. First, the day I drove the car off the lot I noticed there was a dent on the hood that I hadn't noticed during the test drive, i thought it no big deal because I could fix it myself and the sales man who gave me the keys offered to fill my tank up for the inconvenience. Fast forward a few months later I learn during an oil change that the car only has one good tire and the rest need to be replaced asap, so spent 400 dollars getting all new tires. Lastly, just recently my Jeep would not accelerate past 60mph, I took it to get a diagnostic and found out that I have to get my electric throttle and pedal replaced because they have failed, also my windshield wiper fluid nozzle had been facing under my hood so whenever I tried to used the fluid in the past it was just squirting all over my engine, and I need new breaks. I haven't had the an entire year yet and have had to put about 2000 dollars worth of repairs in to it already. I called DriveTime warranty company and there's is nothing they can do because I did not purchase the extended warranty, but honestly if I would have paid for the warranty once they added on the deductible I would have probably paid over 2000 dollars. Just be careful if you choose a car from here this has not be a good experience for me at all and I will never recommend DriveTime to any of my friends or family. read more

I came in as a drive in two weeks ago after seeing a pretty Mercedes SUV. After going inside I was met by a nice African American gentleman that was really helpful and nice. After seeing the car on the inside he asked me if I would like to test drive it which I agreed. After turning it on, it automatically turned off. He then said it was out of gas so I waited for him to get gas. After filling it, it still didn't work so he had to take it back to the shop. This right here is a terrible sign, why would they display a car that doesn't work? What repairs did they do to this? I came back today and I met with a short white male that sat me down and told me I had to do a credit check if I wanted to test drive it. What? I had just driven a $35,000 at the Kelly BMW and two weeks earlier I was going to drive the SUV at the same store with no credit check. I told him that I was not going to damage my credit if I just wanted to test drive a car. My credit score is above 700 and I had the money to buy that car cash that day, so his loss. Take away's from this experience: -Drivetime shows car that are not in working condition or fixes them enough for them to work for a few days. -You have a 50% chance you will get a rude and judgmental associate. -Cars are overpriced and in bad shape. read more

Bought 2012 ford focus. Only had it for a month and it's broke down. Both the warranty and drive time blew us off. We now have a lemon. We even had the choice of another focus but the windshield was broken and the inside was stained. We thought we got the better looking one, but really it has a serious problem and drive time just wanted to get rid of it. It's over priced and their warranty or guarantee is a lie. Be careful. They are nice but will charge you the highest interest rate possible bcz unknowingly you sign your rights away because of credit. Ohio has an 8% cap but they will charge you up to 29%. I just spoke to someone whose kbb is $4900 on a high milaged used car and she owes $19000. I fell for it to shame on me. But they pray on people with low credit scores. They are the Cheshire Cat. And btw the "low payments" are bi weekly which they don't tell you until the very end of the process. read more

I will never refer a person to them. I am currently buying a car through them and they don't know anything. First off when I was first buying the car the passenger side seat was loose and they had the "mechanic" look at it and he said it was fine so I took it to an actual repair shop and they said it was dangerously loose. Second my cousin put me down as a referral when he went to get his car and they "lost" his referral. Third when I called to get it straightened out customer service told me to have him call and they would do it, so he called and now all of the sudden they can't do it. my daughter called them and talked to a lady and set up looking at a car. lady took all my daughters info and later called and said she was all approved for that car just come up and test drive. we drove over an hour to get there with all her paper work and $2000 to put down. we get to drive time and meet a tall African American male who at first was really helpful. he put us on the test drive and took all our info to financial person. after returning from test drive we get told they ran her credit again and she needed $4500 down for the car. now this car was a $8000 car so they wanted more than half down. my daughter got upset and started crying. the salesman then started to ignore us. after i finally approached him he said we have a program that can help u build your credit but it will be on a program car. so we went out to look at these cars. these cars were junk. old wrecked pieces of crap. sad part is they wanted just as much for these special program cars as they did for the one we came to see. when I started to get upset because my daughter was crying and questioned how they can sell her a piece of crap for the same price as the car she wants plus how they lied to get us there he became rude. he said its not our fault your daughter has no credit and not enough money to put down. plus I tried to help her out but you don't want one of those cars. so if you are not going to buy anything we are done talking and walked away. read more

THESE CARS ARE LEMONS DO NOT GO TO THIS CAR LOT! My experience is too long to even bother typing but to make a long story short, the VERY FIRST day that I got my car I was having problems. Drive Time will NOT give you a rental while the Aeverex Warranty is repairing the vehicle and the other inventory they have on the lot has just as many problems. They told me my car was taken to the shop and everything was checked out before I got it..BS. When I took my car to the warranty preferred shop..which is Boyds, there were literally and this is not exaggeration, 5 other Drive Time cars with 45 day plates on them. They are a scam. You will have weekly or bi-weekly payments that are ridiculously high and don't even get me started on the interest rate. The only semi good thing about my experience was my salesperson, he was a cool dude but he is NOT getting a shout out because I feel like he knows deep down that they sell people messed up cars but at the end of the day he cant do anything about it..except quit, and its already hard enough to get a good job these days. For anyone considering financing or leasing a car from Drive Time..DONT! save your money and go to an actual dealership, you will be happy in the long-run. I was so eager to get a car I signed on the dotted line and out of two weeks I have driven my car for about 4 days!!
