I've had nothing but a frustrating experience with DriveTime so far. After initially providing all the requested documentation, I was told I'd hear back by the following Thursday (March 19). Since then, it's been constant back-and-forth. I've received multiple calls asking for additional information, and each time I've promptly submitted everything requested. However, I keep being told the dealership never received my documents. Now, I've been sent yet another link to upload the same information I've already submitted multiple times. At this point, the process has been nothing but a headache--and I haven't even started the actual car buying process yet. Communication and internal coordination seem to be seriously lacking. 3/30/26 I haven't had my car 30 days and it's been in the shop. Check engine light came on. I went to get a diagnostic test and I need a catalytic converter and an oxygen sensor. The under carriage of the car is so rusted that the shop can't get the bolts off to fix my car. I've called DriveTime, Customer Relations and the warranty company. I've got nothing but the runaround. I've had to miss work due to no vehicle. I was told by the warranty company that I would be reimbursed for a rental car or uber. It's hell getting a rental and Uber is expensive. I asked for another vehicle due to the rust under the car and was told I should've returned it within the 7 day grace period. No accountability, poor customer service, poor follow through. DO NOT BUY A CAR HERE. THEY SELL LEMONS AND DO NOTHING FOR YOU IF IT SURVIVES THE 30 DAYS PERIOD. THEY ARE A 30 DAY CAR DEALERSHIP. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED! This is an update. It does not replace the original review - I wrote this because Eddie from Drivetime responded, and I am adding details since I wrote the initial review. Nothing got better. I read the response here and I will address it and also update to what has happened so far. First of all, the 5 day return period wouldn't have done any good. It took a complete engine tear down to reveal the problems with this car. I took it to the CDJR Dealership in Lithia Springs, they diagnosed it and all they knew was the problem - not what caused it. That took two weeks, one week for an appointment, another for them to get to my car. So what good is 5 days? The car acted okay as long as I didn't drive over 40 miles per hour, as I described - and since I was just driving to work and back it seemed okay. Drivetime advertised this car as GOOD CONDITION. 4 warped heads is NOT good condition. Now, when the problem was revealed, I took it to 4 different mechanics. That takes longer than 5 days. Even if there was an issue on day one, a person can easily surpass the 5 days because mechanics make you wait for appointments and then hold your car. I'm sure this isn't something Drivetime doesn't know. As I stated before, the problems that created the defect wasn't revealed until I took the car to get the engine replaced completely - at a high cost. The issues? defective water pump, seals and hoses (that's outside of the engine so Drivetime should have known that)'; leaking oil cooler; cracked motor mounts; various seals defective; various bad hoses. I should have been suspicious that the engine only had 53,000 miles on it, but then again I paid $5,000.00 more than I probably should - only because I thought I was buying a GOOD condition car. Not FAIR. Not POOR - it said GOOD and that is a Blue Book term for a certain quality level. Its costing me $3000.00 to replace the engine, plus the money I spent trying to fix the car before arriving at the replacement - that's about what I owe to Drivetime. At the very least they could meet me halfway and just void the rest of the money I owe them for a LEMON they sold me. Not to mention I cant work until I have a damn car! Thanks for your sentiment - but apologizing is hollow if your not trying to make a person whole. that reply was for you, not me - because I still am out thousands of dollars - your reply did not change anything. And if you want to give me a contact, give me emails, not phone numbers. There's no documentation in a phone call, and I could care less about another "I apologize but we cant do anything" communication wasting my time. I dont care if it is sales, you have to be a sick individual to sit there and listen to a person tell you how they need something to survive and make a living for themselves and their family, and then proceed to rip them off, create a debt and give them some burden that doesn't help them at all. Bought a truck in February and by April the truck was down. The insurance they sell you is not worth anything because it barely covers anything. Here we are a year later and the truck is still down. 1 Star is absolutely to much. This is not about this particular drive time location itself I am leaving this review here because this shows to be there corporate office. I am hoping I finally reach someone who gives a damn about my experience with this company. I have mailed letters to the cooperate office. I have left emails with customer service and I have even called and left voicemails and never been reached out to. DO NOT BUY A VEHICLE FROM ANY DRIVE TIME. My experience starts in March 2023 when I took my brother in to the drive time location in Pelham AL. We picked out a 2018 Ford Fusion and completed all the paperwork and financing and we were on our way. This was at the end of the day on a Saturday so when we left the building the store closed. We only made it about 20 minutes from the dealer when the vehicle broke down. We were stranded and couldn't reach drive time until that Monday due to the business hours. On Monday we had the vehicle taken to a repair facility and paid our deductible and they attempted repairs on the vehicle. We had it for 1 day after that before the engine went out. The vehicle was returned within the 5 day return policy to the Drive time location in Pelham AL however they couldn't get us a refund on our down payment for 14 days!! Once speaking with the manager and finding a solution that resulted in us driving 3 hours to a Drive time location in another state to pick up another vehicle that was within our budget and suppose to be the same down payment. We were assure they would have the vehicle and paperwork ready when we arrived. We made the drive to find that the employees had no idea we were coming we had to wait on the vehicle to be found and gassed up. We also had to redo all the paperwork and was then informed we owed an additional $350 towards the down payment that we did not have on us. We had to go through the trouble of having family send us money because we were so far from home. I was already pissed by this point but fast forward 3 weeks this new vehicle breaks down and is put in the shop and stayed in the shop being repaired from April 1st - August 29th. 4 months without a vehicle. The payments were made on time for the entire time we have never missed a payment. We did not have the chance to register the vehicle prior to it breaking down. The vehicle was not registered. Drive time was informed about the vehicle being in the shop multiple times. When the vehicle was picked up from being repaired I attempted to register the car however I did not have the paperwork and we had to track down where drivetime sent the paperwork and it was actually sent to a county we no longer lived in. I called Drive time and asked for another copy of the paperwork to be sent to the current county we lived in. They refused and said it had to be registered in the county it was sent to however since I did not reside in that county any longer the DMV would not register the car. So we could not get it registered. Drive time then informed us that they were coming to repo the car since it was not registered. We had to obtain a property within the county just to register the car!!!! During this entire process drive time was never any help. I am so disgusted with this company and this situation absolutely the worst experience ever. read more

Read this review before you consider buying a car from ANY DriveTime dealership. Dealership Key Points: 1. The price is non negotiable 2. If you are dissatisfied with the car you can return it up to X amount of miles and pay a restocking fee Loan Key Points: 1. Your loan will be through Bridgecrest (DriveTime). 2. You have 60 days once your loan starts to request a new APR. Your loan paperwork does not state this. They will tell you the dealership is supposed to inform you (the dealer does not tell you this). 3. For every extra $500 payment your APR decreases 1% (this is not in your contract nor does the dealership inform you of this). 4. A portion of each payment goes towards your interest first then your principal (your loan contract states this). Your first payment will reflect $0 towards principal and $full payment towards interest, 2nd payment $20 towards principal and $remaining amount towards interest and so on. Your loan paperwork does not provide insight on how much money will go towards your interest or principal per payment. 5. Interest is charged daily (this is stated in your loan paperwork). Say your interest rate is $10.30 per day and there's 30 days in a month your interest for the month is $300+ so whatever interest that doesn't get paid for that month rolls over to the next month (This is not stated in your loan paperwork). 6. A representative will contact you to setup your payments and ask if you want to pay extra to help lower the amount of payments. They do not inform you that you must contact them after each payment and tell them where you want your payment applied. If you do not contact them then they will apply payment however they want. They will tell you informing you of this is not a requirement. Unless you ask them they do not tell you this information. 7. You have 6 months after each payment to contact them and have them redistribute the money how you want. They can "only" go back 6 months from your last payment made. Only managers can adjust the account, so you should call back to check if the request was done because not all tickets get processed. Cliff Notes: In 1 year you could pay $6,600 towards a $18,000 auto loan but $3,700 will be towards interest and $2,200 towards the principal unless you call after every payment and inform them to apply towards principal only. read more

If there was zero stars I would've chosen that. Let me start by saying the ONLY reason we went to DriveTime was because our credit is a little challenged right now. If you are reading this...DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM THIS COMPANY. After we bought the car, one day later the check engine light came on. Turns out the dealership had sold us a car with a busted motor mount, problems with the timing chains, air conditioning, the right ball joint, and the negative battery lead had been disconnected and let the battery drain. Nearly $2000 in repairs which was covered by the 30 day warranty. Apparently their "multi-point inspection" is a joke. They do not inspect every vechile before it hits the lot..or they would've found all the busted items I mentioned above. Now we have found out the young lady who sold the vehicle to us has lied. She said she could not change the due date to the 5th of the month. But not a problem. After you make your first payment just call the finance company and they will change it to the 5th for you. Not true. Now we are being told that we can't change the date which is a slight problem for us. They also charge you $695 for a Mandatory GPS service. They promote it as a theft deterrent so if the vehicle is stolen you can locate it-Great! But in reality if you don't make your payment, it's so they can locate the vehicle and repossess it. I will tell everyone I know to never buy a car from this company. read more

I've bought two cars at this location. The first one had a spare that didn't fit the car. My new one had a spare when I was inspecting it with the salesman Michael Dunlap but he removed the spare while I was signing the final papers and he was "cleaning up the car for me". The car was clean to begin with and didn't look any different after he was done. They have you go inside and sign with someone else while they steal your spare tire. I discovered this when I got a flat and needed it. I just didn't think to look again before I left because, seriously why would they do that? Ridiculous. I wrote a letter to corporate. They never responded. Also, other than keeping an eye on Michael the thief, don't let them convince you to finance stupid stuff but GET THE GAP COVERAGE! The amount of money you have to finance the car for is outrageous and if your car is totalled the insurance isn't going to pay for the balance you owe. They pay for the value of the car and it leaves you with a car payment on a car you no longer have. It's worth it. Make them remove the Sky link service. It's used to track and disable your car if they need to repossess it and they can have it turned on if they need to do so. There's no reason for you to finance that and pay interest on it. I had them remove the DriveCare powertrain as well because I was buying a dependable car with little miles that was still covered under the manufacturer's warranty. It's also crap coverage that doesn't really cover anything and doesn't last long enough to justify the thousands of dollars they charge that will be even more thousands of dollars when you are paying interest on it. We discussed the price and the things I wanted him to remove and then he went and got the paperwork and I saw that he didn't remove the Skylink or DriveCare. I told him that I wanted him to remove it (again, we literally just discussed it) and he said "we have to start all over if I do that and it will take a while" like that would make me say "well okay, I'll just pay several extra thousands of dollars". Wtf?? I told him to remove it and i'd wait. Don't let them get sneaky on you! If you decide to remove something make sure to look and see that they did it because they will add it back on in hopes you will let them get away with it. When he finally returned with the new paperwork he had an attitude and said "I did it. I was tempted to charge you more for the car but I decided not to." I didn't say anything. If he had I would have just left. Don't buy a car from DriveTime unless you have to. The KBB on my first car was around $8k but the base price I paid was $13k and then the financing made the total on it $31K. Like I said, only if you have no other option. read more

I would NOT recommend DriveTime AT ALL. My coworkers recommended this place to me when I first moved back to Georgia as a great place to get a used car, so I purchased a car here last May. FIRST TIP: DO NOT GET APPROVED SAME DAY, EXPLORE YOUR OPTIONS! My red flags should have been the first salesperson that kept pawning me off to her coworkers, the fact that she almost let me take interest in a car without power windows, the high monthly payments or the fact that the car I really fell in love with, Chevrolet Cruze--they wouldn't repair the brakes for me knowing I needed a car fast, forcing me to find a different vehicle. I wasn't asking same day. But they didn't think anything was wrong. I chose a different car only because it was already a pull on my credit and I also needed to get an apartment. So, I opted for a Chevrolet, Sonic. We arranged to pick it up from Conyers. The guy that drove me to see it was very nice. The car itself was great. It was the lies I encountered to bait and switch me into buying the car that reason my low rating. I was given the car with barely any gas even though I was told it would be filled and prepped as I did the paperwork. Nothing major, I could put gas and get it washed, so I let that slide. I purchased every warranty available for my car because they sounded great and I wanted that safety and peace of mind. My salesperson told me that if I ever needed the car looked at, I would pay if I went to an outsider, but if I took it to DriveTime, it would be free. I'm no car guru so if things don't seem normal, I would like to get it inspected. The first time, it was waived by the insurance, I guess. That was about shaking, the air not being cool, the window sensor and the charging port. I was told that the shaking and window were fine and the air was about the temperature outside and the speed. But the charger port still wasn't working when I got around to try it. I took it for service again realizing it was still jacked, the guy told me it would be $50. I told him my salesperson said if I took it here it was free and he disagreed and said the techs had to get paid. It's a charging port! $50 for that? Pass. Thanks for the unnecessary drive and lack of customer service. I had a USB connect in the passenger storage and it was mostly just me in the vehicle, so I made that work. LESSON: The 3yr and 5yr warranty are NOT WORTH IT because no one is on the same page. Get statements documented and signed because these people are LIARS. Definitely a loss of trust and a lot of frustration. Fast forward to my BIGGEST ISSUE. When I purchased my car, I was told that if I bought GAP coverage and my car was ever totaled, GAP would pay the difference and I would be issued a check for $5,000 towards a new vehicle. That seemed like PEACE OF MIND although no one wants that risk of death, honestly. June 2017, my car was struck head on at no fault of my own by a careless driver. I'm blessed to be alive. My lovely car didn't make it. It swiveled into a ditch with major damage on the front and side. The front was caved in, ALL of the air bags were deployed and it was all bad. I missed time out of work, I'm still coping with my personal injuries and I still don't have a car because of life changes. Car wrecks suck and the process is LONG. I was looking forward to the check for a new vehicle from GAP to get me into a new vehicle. So I stayed on top of everything. So, the at-fault driver's insurance FINALLY pays Bridgecrest. I have the documents sent over to Aeverex (GAP) that are holding up the process. The car is paid off! I ask about my $5,000 check toward a new vehicle that I've mentioned on the phone before when they asked if I still want to use DriveTime or buy a car straight out. No corrections, but now no one knows anything. And when I call the dealership, there is no apology but they say I was given wrong information. Possibly mixed up with if the car is stolen, they issue a check for a new vehicle. An incentive that I qualify for $1,000 credit toward any vehicle and no down payment because of the accident is NOT worth it. And when I needed to call back, the hold seemed as if they were avoiding me. I almost died, my car is totaled and I am trying to get back to a sense of normalcy, but the warranty that I purchased and expected to make things whole again was a FLUKE. Due to unfortunate circumstances, my husband and I are in a situation like many others where Drivetime is nearly our only option in trying to repair our credit as well as get a much needed vehicle. I've spent the past two days online researching, emailing a sales person & speaking on the phone multiple times with the Stone Mountain location. I was VERY specific as well as extremely candid about our situation. They knew that I needed to do as much of the transaction as possible over the phone being that it was an hour and a half drive for us to their location. MULTIPLE times we went over the EXACT car we were wanting and verified that it would be there. I sent over every bit of paperwork they asked for yesterday to get us approved (this was 10am yesterday morning) Had to call all day long to finally get answers late yesterday evening. Needless to say, as soon as we arrived (before the doors even opened) we had a BAD feeling due to not seeing the car on their lot. We go in and sure enough, THEY SOLD IT OUT FROM UNDER US. Made up this elaborate story as though "It must have happened at the last minute before we closed" Only to find out that the lady who was supposed to be HELPING us was the one who sold the car. NO WONDER SHE DIDN'T CALL US BACK ALL DAY LONG!!! They then explain to me that they can't hold cars without some sort or payment, yet no one even tried explaining this to me yesterday. They just assumed I would drive all the way there and they could be lucky enough to put me in a car. Not to mention, we were going to use our current vehicle as a trade in which is in immaculate condition, its just a large SUV & expensive on gas. They do what they call an "appraisal" look at it, check mileage, DON'T EVEN DRIVE IT & offer us 2k BELOW TRADE-IN VALUE! Very insulting for them to waste so much of our time then to have the nerve to ask if we would like to put cash down. After selling the car we settled on? NO THANK YOU! We understand that you deal with high risk customers and its your job to make as much money our of us as possible, but this was a horrible experience for someone serious about purchasing not one but possibly two vehicles from your lot! When I showed up, I was expecting obnoxious, slimy, dudes spitting lines to get me in to ANY car, no matter what. I was glad I brought back up. That was not the case at all! His unique charm, Blue Steel skills, genuine concern, honest determination, and outstanding customer service skills were amazing! First, and foremost, today I created a YELP account, just so I can tell people to stay away from DriveTime !!! You know! I really tried to give them a chance at Drive Time, the customer service, and time that they put into my vehicle choice felt very genuine. Then they DID hit me with the "return your car within five business days and/or less than 300 miles". Unfortunately, I went without my husband, and was persuaded into the deal knowing I can return the car, and it WOULD NOT affect my Credit REPORT. But when I got home, my husband and I decided to return the car. When we got there on the 3rd day of having the vehicle, it took five minutes for them to close the deal and credit my deposit back. Now 30 days later, I have a open Auto Account on all of the credit bureaus - and - this has hurt me as I'm trying to buy a waaayyy better car than they could offer me. They at Drive Time target those with low credit, and after further review, my credit is not bad at all. BUT now my score has dropped by 50 points bc of a purchase I did not commit to. Please stay away, try CarMax or Enterprise, they can offer you a way better deal. read more
