What a gem! I used to go to the Sugar Land location about 15-20 years ago and completely forgot about this place. I was craving a good gyro and was reminiscing on the specific and perfect flavor of Droubis. So glad this place exists! It's a simple gyro with the necessary toppings (nothing over the top) wrapped perfectly in the most delicious and fresh pita. The price is very reasonable and the quality is top notch. The owner was still making sandwiches just like before! The taste was exactly how I remembered. And the hospitality hasn't changed either!! While waiting for my sandwich to be made, he offered us tea and apologized for the 5 minute delay (because he was making fresh pitas for the sandwiches). I will definitely be back! read more

Since 1979 he's been slangin shawarma, he's so goated that he's still servin the block and expanding. His students have moved on to other known Mediterranean/ Middle Eastern food establishments like Fadis and such, unfortunately everyone forgot that shawarma is a street food that helps the common man on his grind with an affordable meal but now these greedy guys are selling shawarma for over $15 "sides and drink not included" Mr Droubi is keepin it a hunit and I got mad respect for him. This is a small shop place, quiet and a little warm for 92 degrees weather. There is a bakery shelf, hot food counter, and mini mart selling Mediterranean groceries. Everyone is very sweet, helpful, and friendly. You order at the food counter and pay afterwards at the grocery cashier. The shawarma and gyro orders are made fresh, piping hot. I opted for the beef and lamb gyro while grabbing a small mango drink from the grocery side. The gyro sauce was perfect, along with the sliced beef and lamb. I dare to say this is the best gyro I've had in a long time, especially for the price! After finishing up, they ask you to leave to tray on the table and they'll come by to clean up. On my way out, I grabbed some cooking spices from the grocery side along with a small bag of jasmine rice. I felt the prices were reasonable for groceries and hot food. My wife and son and I paid our "first" visit to Droubi's last remaining location. The people we met were super helpful and friendly. This place has been in business for over 40 years and after tasting the best spicy chicken shwarma wrap i've ever had, and some amazing baked goods...I can see why they've been around so long. My wife got the meatball plate with 2 sides, we all tried them...really tasty and tender. The only thing we tried that wasn't quite 5 stars was the tabouleh. Definitely get the coconut cookies and the cookie with dates in the middle...you'll thank me later. Now I need to go back and try everything else. This is a bakery, deli and grocery store. They're in the process of enlarging the space allocated for the deli. The lady working at the bakery counter said they used to have 4 locations. We will be back for more goodies. read more

Gyro platter - (3/5) meat tasted good, hummus was standard. The tzatziki sauced was rancid. Since we got togo I was able to wash the meat off and then reheat on a skillet. Not clean and a little worried I might get sick. Hummus tasted bad and so did the stuffed grape leaves. Being a Jordanian this place is a must go usually once a week. They make their own labaneh and Laban that is to die for, the owner even taught me how to make my own Laban . They have most of the essentials for an Arab household. Today we went to get Zattar managesh and he made some for us fresh. Reasonably priced, clean . First, Sharon Droubi, the owner was very rude and dismissive when I came in. Second time this has happened to me in a row within two weeks so I thought the first time was a one off, but apparently this is their new service standard. Then Sharon and her daughter got into a bit of a verbal altercation and the daughter pushed her a little bit. I don't think a customer should have to see their internal dysfunctional disrespectful family dynamic. Then I asked what kind of olives these are and pointed to a particular bin, and she said how much do you want and I said well how much are they a pound and what kind are they and she said how much do you want? I'm on the phone, what do you want? I'm not sure that's the answer that a customer is expecting. (I got a scoop- who knows how much that weighed). I've been coming to this Droubi's since I was a kid, I hate that today will be the last time. Follow up: The pita bread on the sandwiches was stale or old or some sort of off-flavor. This is the first Droubi's of the well-loved chain - especially since it may also be the very first Middle Eastern bakery & deli in Southeast Texas. I have met Abid in 1989, he never knew me but I used to come to eat shawerma and date pastry, back then it WAS the best, so I decided me and my son to visit him, coming from California dreaming about the shawerma I had back in the days , oh what a shock! !NOT ONE CUSTOMER INSIDE ! ,he does NOT even make meat shawerma !!!! I love the lamb shawarma with fresh kalamata olives and some feta cheese. This place is really a hidden gem. It had its hay-day back in the 80s 90s and early part of the century, but demographic has changed and area became semi ghetto which hurt the businesses. When the maskless owner seems put out to prepare your food, the selection of prepared foods is half of what it used to be, the deli items like feta and olives look old and dried up, and the place is too dirty to dine in you know it's time to choose on of the thousands of other choices in Houston. Droubi's has been one of the cheap eats place in Houston for years. Not only that it is cheap, the food is so good. The lamb shank plate is served in generous portion, and it cost less than $10. The lamb meat is tender. The chicken shawarma here will fill you up and the sauce is so good. I always made a mess when I bit into it. The other that I love here is the pistachio baklava. This place has always been amazing. I recently got their chicken shawarma and it was delicious! I wish there were more pickles lol, but otherwise, the chicken was juicy and the flavors were great. Totally digging Droubi's!! I haven't been here since the mid 90s and the food is still good and CHEAP! For a chicken shawarma you'll pay half the price you would at somewhere like Fadi's and it's just as good and filling. The dining part of the grocery has a hole in the wall feel to it, which I like a lot. Its very minimal and looks like they're in the middle of remodeling it, but it works for just needing to order food and eat. I came on a weekday afternoon just before closing so there wasn't much selection left as far as hot prepared food, but all I wanted was the shawarma anyways. The grocery has all of the standard mediterranean fare. The staff is friendly and helpful and very welcoming. I don't care if this place is in a interesting part of town. I dont care that if I venture when the sunsets I have to be careful of my surroundings at all times. I only care that this place has the best baklava I have ever tasted. The pastries are just wonderful and reasonably priced. Other places want to charge by the lb. or $2 average for a piece. This place offers all for $1.00. A sweet deal for sweet pastries. I'm not sure if the pastries are made in house or what, who cares! They are the best you can taste.
