I had a terrible experience at Dorothy Dry Cleaning. I had a vintage jacket that I brought down to have cleaned. They destroyed the emblem on the jacket. They wrote a small note saying "best we can do". I went back when he saw it and was told to come down and speak with the owner. The owner would NOT speak with me in person. Then over the phone he said he has been doing this for many years & cannot contact each customer that has an article of clothing that basically they cannot clean properly or have Ruined. I had dropped of my wool coat for cleaning and was charged for something I didn't think was right! I reached out to Bob who got back to me super fast! He explained the price and offered up a credit! Honestly, that is not what I was looking for either and I told him this but, he already credited the account even after I was fine and the charge was correct! These reviews need an update so here's mine. Josefina and her daughter Carmen are the new tailors/seamstresses (about 5 months now) and they are amazing! I went today after a disastrous mother of the bride hem job at a highly rated business in North Quincy. (Do yourself a favor and see my other review!) These ladies were patient, professional and so kind. They offered to get creative to magically add inches back to my now too short, lopsided dress. I opted to have it shortened/evened out and just buy new shoes. I'll post pictures when I go back to pick up. My daughter was having her 2nd bridal gown fitting and most of the work was done already. I think she just dropped it off last week and was expecting only one thing to be done. Even her veil was much further along than she had expected. They took the time to bustle the way my daughter wanted and worked with her to get the lace on her veil just right. Another bride was before her and her gown had needed a total resizing (up). Her Mom though the gown would need to be replaced. They were both pleasantly shocked to see otherwise. You'd never have known to see the results! Gorgeous work! About six months ago, I had a pair of pants shortened at Dry Cleaning by Dorothy. They were about 2 inches too long still (annoying!!), but it took me about six months to make time to go back when the tailor was working, and by then, the tailor who shortened them incorrectly was no longer working there. Well, despite the fact that the prior tailor didn't give me a receipt and I had waited six months to return, Dorothy's didn't charge me anything to fix to pants. Customer is not always right at Drycleaning by Dorothy. In a day when there are so many options at your finger tips, you would think that businesses would try and satisfy their customers. I have been a loyal customer at this business for 8 years but not any longer. I brought in a couple of items for dry-cleaning because I had a 20%off coupon in my email. You pay when you pick up as is customary so when I picked up my items, I tried to use my coupon. They informed me that the coupon must be surrendered at drop off...why? What difference does it make? I gave them my business...so who cares when I present the coupon? I emailed the company and was accused of being angry, instead of getting an apology. Why would they give up a loyal customer over $4.oo?? Think twice about going here...I know that I won't be back. read more

We are new to the area and my husband has to get his military uniform cleaned on a weekly basis. Initially we found a place, but they never cleaned it correctly and they were super expensive. I drove by this place one day and decided to give them a try. I am sure glad I did! Not only do they have consistent service, but they are cheaper as well. TERRIBLE. I had trouble off and on for years with most of the branches of Dorothy's Dry Cleaning. They literally seemed to only be doing about 75% of the shirts I dropped off with them. I was often in a hurry so I wouldn't check things right on the spot but when I got home I would find deodorant still on the shirts and often chemical burns on many of them. When I would bring them back in they denied that they could have given me the shirts in that condition, even accusing me of wearing and dirtying them, while leaving the dry cleaning tags on. For what, to scam them out of a few dollars? They actually ruined three of my shirts beyond repair with the chemical burns and then I finally found Shea Plaza Dry Cleaner and haven't looked back since. read more

This place is getting worse each transaction. Last week It was my pants are ready, but not my shirts (ridiculous, most cleaners can have shirts completed in an hour). This week is that is was scheduled for two days later than originally requested. The VIP 50 percent coupon, forget it. After 14 transactions of over 15 dollars, the 15th one is supposed to be 50 percent off. When the young girl says it was not put into the system as 50 percent off, you have to pay full price. They basically tell you to pound sand. It has become very disappointing lately. I Typically go there after 5:00 P.M so there is no one with over a 10th grade education you can talk too. It is hard to keep my cool with these girls, but I remember they are just high school kids probably making minimum wage. Do yourself a favor, and find another cleaner. I guess they must be doing so well that they think its OK to treat a customer who gives them over $2,500 in business each year this way. How will they treat you? read more

The owner was rude and cheap and refused to refund my money. The guy not only looked and acted like the most miserable man on the planet, he was also missing some teeth. I just had a near miss accident with a dry cleaning by Dorothy van, license plate F88493. He was talking on the phone and changed lanes abruptly without signaling, nearly hitting me. His reaction was to continue with his phone conversation and shrug his shoulders. When a business allows their drivers to put the public at risk I seriously reconsider the quality of that business. Safety, consideration and quality of service extend beyond the building itself to include vehicles providing service and advertising. Bob Devaney is rude and not customer friendly. He ruined an outfit of mine that I planned to wear to a wedding on a Sunday. I received a call the day before that there had been a problem with my outfit. It was RUINED. He took no responsibility for it and instead said that the outfit was cheaply made!!! I needed to run out and purchase another outfit for the next day. I will NEVER use this dry cleaner again. read more

I have desperately been seeking a dry cleaner that would give my suits the same care that I do. In the past, I would tell the dry cleaners about my concern for receiving my suits back with broken buttons and I would consistently be reminded that this is sometimes an inevitable consequence of dry cleaning. Moreover, they would tell me that if a button breaks than they would try to find a similar to replace it. Anyone who has ever spent money on a nice suit should know that this is not reassuring at all. I finally stumbled upon Dry Cleaning by Dorothy. I called them up, spoke with someone very pleasant on the phone, and was reassured that they take extra steps, including wrapping each button in foil, to ensure that no buttons get broken in the cleaning process. I just received my suits back and they look fantastic with no broken buttons! Needless to say, the have earned a loyal customer. read more

Beware!!! Very bad customer service!!! They ruined a dress and shirt of mine and still charged my credit card even though I did not give them permission to do so. They say their policy is if you are not happy with our service then it is free which is a lie! I spoke with a salesperson who said the owner was in the store I ran right down to speak with him about my ruined dress and shirt and he would not talk to me he had the salesperson say he was in a meeting all day. Very frustrating they are the ones who ruined my clothes and now I'm out a dress and shirt (very expensive dress and shirt as well) and my only recourse is to take time off work to take them to small claims court......shame on you Dry a Cleaning by Dorothy!!! read more

Worst Customer Service Experience in Years Mid-November I brought in a winter coat in to have the belt buckle repaired; and if it could be repaired, I wanted to also have the coat cleaned (as I wouldn't wear the coat without a belt). I was told that the job would be complete in a week. I returned and they had cleaned the coat and charged me $12, but had not fixed the belt. I was told they would call me the next day with an update. After not hearing from them, I returned one week later, and was told the tailor would call the next day, but once again no phone call. This went on for eight weeks. (Note: I think the tailor only works two hours a week, as she was never onsite the five or six times I dropped in to check on my belt.) Well after two months, I asked to speak to the manager. I was introduced to a male manager (I am not 100% sure of his name and do not want to risk offending the wrong person , but he had light brown/dirty blond hair and was late 40's or 50), and his only solution was not to offer any apology or honor their -- It is right, on time or free-- guarantee, but instead firmly stated he had to talk to the tailor and confirm that no one ever left me a message and would call me back "the next day." This manager seemed very angry/annoyed at having to speak to a customer almost to the point of being confrontational, but in "his defense," it did appear that he had gotten a head start that day celebrating the holidays. Should also mention that the manager stressed that Dorothys had won Best of Boston awards in the past....I assume this was pre-this manager days at Dorothy's or was just that....the past. I decided enough was enough (after allowing eight weeks of poor service and then being questioned about "My story") and had them return my belt and went to Shea's on Middle Street Weymouth. Sheas was amazing. They were pleasant, and it took them less than 48 hours, and charged me half of the price of Dorothy's estimate. The Shea's staff genuinely seemed happy to have my business and enjoy their jobs. Having such a horrible experience with Dorothys, I shared with many and had learned that the down economy has negatively impacted Dorothy's in term of business and service. I should admit the workers at Dorothy's front desk, did seem to care about my situation. Unfortunately, they were not in a position to help, as it appears that the management does not value customer satisfaction/experience. So do yourself a favor!...If you need tailoring or dry cleaning, avoid this place. read more

My first,last and only time. I will never go here again and recommend the same to everyone. I dropped off my Pea coat 2 weeks ago to be cleaned and have a small repair done to the pocket. I was told it would be ready in a week. I went back the following week to pick up and good thing I lifted the bag up to look. The pocket had not been repaired so the woman said they could do it right then but I had to wait for about 25 minutes for it. When it was done I checked the pocket. I couldn't believe I found 3 business cards in the pocket that were not mine. I asked the woman, no explanation. So I decided to look the coat over. There was a stain on the front that was not there before and lint all over it from a scarf or something. The coat hadn't even been cleaned. And I also think someone had worn it. Where did the business cards come from? And if it had been cleaned the business cards would have been ruined. I should have taken it at that point and left. The woman said they would clean it free of charge but I had to pay the $25.95 the was due for the cleaning and repair that were not even done. That is not free of charge. And after waiting a week for it I had to make a second trip back the next day to pick it up again. Bad business read more

I recently took a brand new pink, $200 Lilly Pulitzer dress to be cleaned when I found a small black spot on the dress. However when I went back to pick up the dress they had put a large bleach spot over the black spot, both rendering the dress unwearable and ruining the dress that I was to wear to a wedding. Instead of telling us that they were unable to do anything without ruining the dress they decided to put bleach on a hot pink Lilly Pulitzer dress. When later confronted about it they said there was nothing they could do without ruining the dress. So the question is why not return the dress untouched, why would they ruin the $200 dress that had NEVER been worn by pouring bleach on it. As a dry cleaners you expect their speciality to be in whether or not they can remove a stain without damaging the material, that is not what you get here.They refused to pay for the dress that they ruined. I will NEVER return and highly recommend that you do NOT trust them with valuable clothing. read more

i must say that i have never rated any business before. i felt that i had to vent my frustration with the horrible experience that i had there. the woman at the front desk was preasant, & very helpful. however i needed to shorten the sleeves on my brand new suit, & went to the weymouth store that also has a tailor. when i got the suit back. it had cat, or dog hairs all over it. that was the first thing that i noticed. then i looked at the lining which was hanging. i then noticed that the area where the buttons were looked like a child did them. it was uneven, & (puckered). the sleeves hadn't even been pressed.i then tried it on, & it was too short.i brought it back , & geri at the front desk was appauled at the poor workmanship, & said that it would be taken care of. i left it, & several days later returned, & it was still too shoet. i asked for the tailor who claimed that i had pinned it. omg...... now i am real angry. i wouldn't even know how to pin a suit. i asked for the owner who claimed that either she, or myself were mistaken...... i said that i was not mistaken , & rtake offense to that. he said that it would be fixed. again several days later i returned it was better the third time butnot great, & i would never return there, & recommend that you avoid them also! read more
