I've always been happy to support my local dry cleaner and don't mind paying more, but it's the principle that counts. I usually bring in a bundle of items, so I don't notice smaller charges, but this time it was just one cotton shirt for laundering with light starch. When I picked it up, the price had doubled. I was told it needed to be hand ironed, but as you can see in the photo, it clearly wasn't--it was just pressed. For this price and result, I'll be dropping off my cleaning closer to work moving forward and saving a lot of time. read more

I just went to drop off 3 cashmere throws at Reliable Cleaners in downtown Plymouth. As I was walking out the door, I noticed that underneath my name, it said "Mean Customer." I turned right around and asked the manager, "WHAT IS THIS?!" He looked at me dumbfounded and said, "I don't know." I knew exactly what this was about. A month or so ago, I brought in a blouse. When I picked it up, they had changed the description and the price to a dress. This was a tunic top, not a dress. I questioned it, the young lady behind the counter gave me a sour face and reluctantly changed it back to the cost originally on my receipt. And then...she apparently went into my customer profile in the computer and notated "Mean Customer" under my name. Good job nitwit! Brought in my $360 jacket to be cleaned and have a repair done near the zipper (small hole) I thought to myself $26 is SO worth it!!! Sadly I was mistaken, I could've done a better repair job myself (clearly I should've) The fabric was literally just folded over itself and sewn. Making it even more noticeable than it was prior to being "repaired" but what bothers me even more is it doesn't even smell clean!!!!!!! And there's still three spots with obvious stains that weren't even cleaned off. I will not be returning or recommending to anyone I know. read more

I dropped of a garment to be cleaned I made sure to tell the counter help it had a stain showing them the location. One week later I went to pick it up. The garment still had a stain in the area that had been 1/3 cleaned. I show them the location they said they would take care of it. I went back one week later and it was now 1/2 cleaned. I again showed it to them and they said they would spot clean it. I went back an hour later now my third trip to pick this item up and it was not cleaned! I was charged full price I asked the manager why am I charged after coming back a third time. Not even a discount or 1/2 price. His answer was inflation. I took the garment home and to my surprise was able to clean it on my own and get the stain out. Going up in Plymouth-myself and I'm sure everyone else in town grew up taking their clothes to Reliable Cleaners. Weather it was a dry cleaning, an alteration, or fixing something that was broken, they have always been my go-to. They truly are reliable. I can never think of an experience in all of my life that I was disappointed with their services. They have a quick turnaround, they have a newly implemented feature where they text you when your clothes are ready, and their prices are extremely reasonable. One of my favorite things about Reliable are the people. They are so welcoming, they recognize you, they greet you warmly, and it adds to the experience of running an otherwise dull errand. I recently came here to get my wedding dress cleaned and steamed as well as my husband's suit and puppy's dress. They were so amazing and they couldn't stop congratulating me. My husband and I had been dropping clothes off here for years until I received the worst service I have ever received in my life. I dropped off a sweater I had worn twice, a beautiful white oversized polyester sweater. I picked it up, paid for it, pulled it out of the plastic to wear it... and it was completely destroyed. Shrunk to the point the sleeves are at my elbows and hem to my belly button, dingy colored, and covered in pulled threads. Polyester should not shrink when dry cleaned. Threads on a sweater should not be pulled during dry cleaning- nothing should get wet. The sweater was clearly washed and dried under high heat, NOT dry cleaned, When I went back in I said "why did you make me pay for this? Why didn't anyone tell me this happened?" the owner shrugged and said "I thought you knew". I said "you thought I knew? And you made me pay for it?". There were no apologies, and the owner continued to treat me like an idiot while giving excuses such as: "This fabric always shrinks when dry cleaned" "It's the store you bought it from a fault" "This fabric should never be dry cleaned" "The fabric is defective" Every time I called them (his son soon joined) out ("why would a garment say dry clean if the fabric can't handle it? If that's the case, why take the sweater from me? I've bought sweaters exactly to the dry cleaner before with this same fabric!") they would lie, lie, lie. They never really apologized and insisted I give them my sweater to send out to a lab so they can prove to me it's defective and that they did nothing wrong. Wtf? They handed me a destroyed garment with no note or warning, making me PAY for the destroyed garment, and destroyed my item with no apology. They never even reimbursed me the dry cleaning costs. I literally paid for them to destroy my new $50 garment. They never even offered me my $5 back. This owners are liars, dishonest cheats. They had my sweater for 5 days and never called me or tried to correct the situation. Beyond being a terrible business, they were outright terrible people, prideful and condescending. To me there is no difference between stealing and an act like this. NEVER take your clothes here! read more

I brought in my jacket to have new elastic put in the cuffs. Instead of cutting the side seam, pulling the old out and putting in new elastic, the seamstress cut the actual cuff itself at the end, which had been one piece before she cut it and stitched it closed. Apparently doing it several times for whatever reason because she left behind fraying bits of thread that she never bothered to trim. When I saw that the stitching she put in was coming undone (the same day I picked the jacket up) I went back in to talk to the manager to try to come to a solution. Before even looking at it he immediately told me the jacket was like that when I brought it in and there was nothing he could do. In addition to that lie, he also insisted that the seamstress only cut the side seam even though I literally had just spoke to her myself and she admitted that she cut the cuff. I told him that I had already spoke to the seamstress up the street who told me for her to repair what they had done, she would obviously have to replace the cuffs entirely, that she could do it without issue and that if he'd simply refund me the cost of his botched repair I would pay the rest to have the cuffs replaced. To his credit, after staring at me angrily for about 15 seconds he reluctantly opened the cash register and gave me my money back. I do appreciate him finally working with me to fix the issue, but I don't appreciate his negative, confrontational attitude and his lying to cover for his employee. read more

I brought a one shoulder satin dress(knee length) to be altered. The hip area was too big. The Asian woman was great and pinned the dress up in ten minutes. The changing room is a bit strange where it's in the front of the store but I guess they don't have anywhere else for it. I'm wearing it to a wedding in 3 weeks and they had it done for me in 8 days but probably would've been sooner any other time bc I dropped it off the Wednesday before Labor Day. It came out perfectly and it looks so much nicer when it's wrinkle free : ) for cleaning and altering the total was $26. Well worth it. I'm very disappointed that YELP has filtered out four relevant reviews for this business. You can find these reviews by clicking on the small gray link located immediately after the last review on the main review page. It's on the left hand side and reads as (4 Filtered), though I'm sure after my review, it will be (5 Filtered). It's across from the red "Write a Review" option. If I had seen these reviews before, I would have never gone to Reliable Cleaners. I couldn't understand why YELP was censoring these reviews until I Googled "YELP filtered reviews". From what I read, it seems YELP is just as dishonest as this dry cleaning company. It's my understanding that Reliable Cleaners can pay to have negative reviews be concealed. Long story short, items that I had dry cleaned were not to my satisfaction and the male who was behind the counter did not care. He acted as if the problem was my fault and made sure to make me feel that way. His attitude was terrible and the atmosphere inside the building was worse. The issues with my clothing were dismissed and it was clear nothing would be done to rectify the matter. I felt like I was being bullied. I brought a bridesmaids dress in that was a bit big and I needed it to be tightened up in the chest and stomach areas. I was very disappointed with the work. The dress is still to big. I should have known because when I put it on the first time to show where I wanted the dress taken in and the women did not even pin me. She just made a slight mark on the dress. I will be worrying about my dress falling down all night now during the wedding. I should have spoken up about my disappointment but in reality based on the experience I did not trust them to touch the dress again. read more

I had to get a strapless bridesmaid dress altered as it was too big. Took about 10 mins to get it pinned and dropped off. Picked it up yesterday and it looks great! Fits wonderful now and is completely wrinkle free. It was done within a week and only cost $25. I will be going back for any alterations needed in the future and would recommend it for anyone else! I get a lot of clothes adjusted and cleaned for work. I needed some pants hemmed prior to a business trip. When my husband went to pick up my pants they had all but one ready. The lady asked if he wanted to pay for all even though the one pair was not ready. My husband paid for all. When he went back to pick up my pants they claimed he never paid so he ended up paying twice for a pair of pants we never even got on time for the purpose I bought them for!! Based on my experience, Reliable Cleaners of Plymouth is anything but "Reliable" or professional. I dropped off six scarves to be dry cleaned, four of which were Pashmina scarves. I was very clear that the scarves were gifts from my mother and that I didn't want them to be damaged. The manager, George, looked them over and told me that some of the scarves had tags on them that were attached with a thin adhesive tape. I was told that if the scarves were to be dry cleaned, the tags might fall off so therefore I should have them sewn on. I agreed to have the tags sewn on and asked that only a small stitch be placed at each corner of the tag and not all the way around, so that the thread wouldn't damage the fabric and the stitching wouldn't be noticeable on the opposite side of the scarf. My dry cleaning order was placed with George because the young woman with dark hair who was initially helping me did not charge me for dry cleaning over-sized scarves, only regular size scarves. George caught the mistake and corrected my order, thus charging me for the cost to dry clean over-sized scarves, the sewing of the tags and the dry cleaning of an additional dress shirt. When I went to pick up my items, I paid and then stepped aside to look everything over. When I saw the scarves, I was extremely disappointed. The tag on each scarf had been completely sewn on with thread, all the way around. The stitching was crooked and the thread was doubled over in some places but not in others. The fabric was bunched up because the person sewing the tags on had pulled too tightly on the thread. The tags were not attached by their very edge, as you would expect a tag to be attached, but instead were sewn on about 1/4 of the way in, closer to the center of the tag. When I brought this to the attention of the young blond woman behind the counter, she looked at the scarves, apologized and said that she would get the manager. At that point, an elderly woman with an accent came from the right side of the counter, where the sewing area is. The elderly woman asked the blond woman "What's the problem" and the blond woman replied that she was going to get the manager to help me. The elderly woman said that she was the manager and would "handle" me. The blond woman then put up her hands in concession and walked away without saying anything. The exchange between them was very awkward for me, as a customer, to watch. When I showed the elderly woman the stitching she replied with "What's the problem? It's stitched." I explained that I only wanted a small stitch in each corner so the scarf wouldn't get damaged. I said that I had clearly explained this before dropping the scarves off because they were gifts from my mother and meant a lot to me. After that, my situation was handled in a very unprofessional and disrespectful manner. The elderly woman said that she would fix the scarves because she's "like my mother" and when she done she'll "give me a microscope" to make sure there are no holes in the fabric. At that point, the manager George came over and I explained the situation again. He told me that the young dark haired woman who had taken my dry cleaning order had not charged me for the stitching and since I "had gotten away" with not being charged for having the tags stitched, that I would have to pay for them to be repaired. I explained that he had helped me with my order when I first dropped off the items and that he had even corrected the dark haired woman when she didn't charge me the extra cost for over-sized scarves. I asked what my total should have been for the dry cleaning with the stitching included and the price George gave me was less than what I paid. I was never told why this was because at that time the elderly woman came back with my scarf which she had fixed. The tag was attached by the four corners as I had asked and looked exactly the way I wanted it to. I then said that I wanted the remaining four tags to be removed and then be reattached with one stitch in each corner. The manager George replied that I would have to pay for those repairs to be done. At this point, I understood that I was not dealing with an honest business that cares about customers or quality. I said to George that was fine and that I wouldn't need anything more. I said that I would take the scarves somewhere else to be repaired. He responded with "Really?" and "Okay, thank you", as if he knew he was getting away with giving me bad customer service and couldn't believe his luck. Looking back on the service at Reliable Cleaners, I'm chalking this situation up to experience. I handled the matter in the best way I knew how but sometimes people just don't care if they do something wrong. George and the elderly woman were more concerned with being right and did not care about the quality of the work that was done by the business they represent. My suggestion to others is that you always check your dry cleaning before paying. read more

I never leave bad reviews, but this really warrants one. I am in a wedding and brought my bridesmaid dress to be hemmed and altered. I'm 6 months pregnant, so feeling good in the dress is a big thing. I brought my dress to Reliable after finding good reviews on the work and the price. My experience there wasn't the best. I felt as though the woman wasn't listening to what i wanted done to the dress. It didn't fit very well in the bust, so i wanted that taken in, i needed it hemmed as it was too long, and then a broach on the side of the dress, moved up an inch to change the way the dress fell over my belly. The work she did: Place two snap pins in the bust (very poorly, the thread is hanging out everywhere) to close the gap, leaving the extra fabric to hang very awkwardly. Hemmed the bottom of the dress, which was done very well. I was charged $45 for this. The dress does not flatter my figure at all (which i know is hard to do at this state of my pregnancy, but the things i had requested would have changed the look and the feel of the dress), but the woman would not listen to my requests. If everything i had asked to be done, was done, I would find no problem with this price, however the work done, i could have easily done myself, and I am not very experienced in the area of doing alterations. I am now going to have to remove the snap pins as it is not flattering for myself, nor the dress, and move the broach on my own. The whole point of bringing the dress in was so that i wouldn't have to do it myself, and now I have paid $45 for a simple hem. I can't say I will ever be back for alterations. read more

I'm a long time customer of this place and I was very disappointed recently to have them lose an expensive Brooks Brothers blazer of mine. I didn't notice at pick up that a different blazer had been returned to me. I went to wear the blazer for a wedding a few weeks later and noticed the error. I brought it back in and explained what happened and was told I'd get a call. That didn't happen. I went back in to pick up an order and asked as to the status. The owner came out and said they had no idea what happened and there was nothing they could do and told me they'd call me if it was turned back in. The owner did not offer an apology and kept the blazer that was given to me erroneously. Not that I was expecting anything....but he didn't even discount the order I was picking up, offer a gift certificate, etc. So basically they lost a $450 blazer and told me tough ****. It's one thing to lose something of someone elses...mistakes happen. They way this was handled was just bad business and poor service. I was very disappointed. read more

Brought a bridesmaid's dress to have shortened. Tried it on for them while wearing the heels I would wear with the dress. Picked it up one week later, paid $30, and got it home only to find out that the dress was still about 2" too long. Brought it back last Saturday, tried it on again with the same shoes to have it altered again. The girl at the register told me it was "weird" that the initial alterations weren't correct, without offering an apology. I asked to have the dress ready on Thursday. My husband went to pick it up on Friday, only to stand there for 15 minutes while they tried to find the dress. Once they finally located it, they realized it was still not finished and asked us to come back later. They called me shortly after he had left to tell me it was ready. I asked the manager (George) for a refund, which he told me he was not authorized to provide. He did not apologize. We argued back and forth for 10 minutes, until I finally gave up. My husband picked up the dress and was not offered a refund or an apology. I have used this dry cleaner for 7 years, and after this experience will never return; in addition, I will be sure to tell friends and family about this, in hopes that they will bring their business elsewhere too. read more
