It is a sad place. No stock, no help at all, and a general air of decay. I used to work there and I can't believe the apathy of the staff. Used to enjoy taking my kids here until 1 gentleman got upset with us. I was planning on buying an RC truck for my kiddo's birthday until the gentleman came over as if he was my parent insisting my children do not touch anything, he proceeded to hover over me like a helicopter mom as if I wouldn't cover anything my children would break. The RC cars should be tough enough for a child to poke around on it. What a joke. WILL RETURN in hopes of better customer care, will change review if that happens. read more

D's is a small store dedicated to RC (radio control) but also with a modest inventory of other modeling supplies. They carry very few plastic model kits, though. I've come here for modeling paints, of which they have a decent selection. I'm actually surprised they're still in business, being next door to Hobby Lobby, whose doors I will never darken. Maybe there are more like-minded folks out there in Bend. read more

Really happy to have picked up 2 RC cars from these guys yesterday. Called them yesterday and asked questions about getting back into RC'ing with my 15 year old son. Got some great info from Jason and then went and picked up 2 Traxxas Maxxs from them ... we have been stoked on these cars for the last 48 hours. Support your local business VS buying online! Only reason 4 VS 5 stars is need to resolve battery issue...and email bounced back from website Note to owner -we bought 2 Traxxas Maxxs from you yesterday, extra batteries, etc. We ended up having to come back and switch out batteries. 3 of the 4 batteries are the right ones ... the fourth is shorter and wider and makes it a hassle to switch out quickly. I have not used the battery. Can we please exchange it for one that is the same as the 3 longer/slimmer ones? I have tried to call the shop multiple times but nobody is answering (my guess is due to Governor's shut-down order). How can we arrange for an exchange soon so that my son and I can get back to back sessions in? By the way, we are loving the trucks! Cheers, Stu read more

If I could give less than 1 star I would. Went in today to get replacement parts for 1 of 7 RC cars I have bought from them. Not to mention the countless batteries and chargers. Walked in and the blond guy asked if he could help me. He recognized me as someone he has helped many times. We started talking about parts, he grabbed one of the parts off the rack behind the counter I needed and then followed me over to the Cars on the shelf. After helping me look for others parts we then went to the counter so I could pay. He completely changed his demeanor and tone of voice and asked if I had a mask. I said I did not and asked if the store had one. He said no, grabbed the part and said he wasn't going to sell it to me because I didn't have a mask. I never argued about the mask in fact I asked if I could have one to put on. If he wasn't going to sell it to me then why didn't he just ask when I walked in? Why go through all the trouble of helping me and then say No..... They suck. I have spent thousands of dollars in there. At have the respect to ask me when I first walked in. I would recommend buying on Amazon before I would ever give D's Remote Control Hobbies my business again. At least Amazon's customer service is good. read more

Great customer service. 100% recommend. We had an issue with an RC Christmas present. Customer service was outstanding, so we exchanged one and bought 2 more expensive items. Then we had a battery issue and they replaced it immediately. Apparently the battery had an issue they'd never seen. So great! Thank you! Must shop! Fair prices, too! read more

I stopped by while on vacation from Los Angeles because I needed a lipo battery for my Traxxas Slash 4WD BL. The staff was very knowledgeable, and recommended a battery for my ride. As it turns out, the one they recommended did not have a Traxxas connector. The employee there had a box of old connectors, and not only gave me the one I needed, but switched it out for me as well, free of charge. Those guys have great attitudes, are very friendly and helpful, and know their stuff. I'm so glad I stopped by. read more

Wow... Things keep getting better! I came in today to get some much needed maintenance items for my car and was pretty blown way by what I saw. When I first reviewed D's it was like a ghost town in there. Today it was packed with people. Not only that but they seem to have a full line of Exceed RC as well as Vaterra models and they even have several large scale Losi DBXLs. AWESOME! I'm licking my chops! I don't think you can find large scales in many hobby shops, so hats off to you. Then you go to their display cases and, (holy cow!) it's full of batteries, motors, ESCs, chargers, shock and diff oils to list a few items I saw. Before, I kid you not, when I first visited D's 2 years ago, there was one LiPo Charger available and maybe 5 to 8 batteries, a few brushed motors, some oils, and not much else. They have lots of parts up on the walls to upgrade the RC you have purchased from them. They have a healthy supply of tools, too up by the cash register. My only observation for improvement to the RC stock, would be a better supply of wheels and tires and I didn't see any aftermarket bodies. Nonetheless, it has really turned around. The best thing I can say about D's is, it is a REAL hobby shop again. Thank you for the changes! I'll be back much more often. Keep up the great work, crew. read more

Got a Vaterra Halix RC truck and like a newb..broke a spur gear in the first 24 hrs..brought it in to the guys at Ds and Patrick not only immediately diagnosed the problem but fixed it on the spot..free of charge. Just going in here makes me want to spend money. My only complaint is the stuff breaks easily. One crash and your hundred dollar toy is now needing new parts. When you go in for parts they are either out, or take your money and don't give you the part. Had this experience lately. Got out to the car and they had given me the wrong part! They would not let me exchange it, but told me when the right part came in I could come get that. It is what it is... read more

This place was great. Very well stocked, nice selection and everything displayed nicely. The staff was very friendly and super helpful with my bonehead issue. I went to these guys on a Sunday to get my paintball airtanks filled for a game I was heading to. They told me that they would not fill 3 of my 4 air tanks and that I would have to buy new tanks from them. So I bought the new tanks and got them filled. They handed me my tanks which were warm to the touch instead of cold like I normally get back whenever I got my tanks filled at other places in the past. I inquired as to why the tanks were warm since they supposedly just filled them and their reply was that they warm the tanks as a special service. I later found out that they in fact did not fill all of my tanks, but seemed to have only partially filled them. We got 50 shots from each tanks. I was quite upset since I spent a lot of money to both buy and fill the new tanks. I also referred some friends to rent from them. We waited for over half an hour to get the equipment. We got out to the forest to play and the equipment he got from D's was garbage. The guns were in serious disrepair. The masks had either no padding or the padding was barely attached and hanging off. None of the equipment was clean or looked like it had not been cleaned for a long time. My friend was not happy either. D's charges right close to, if not, top dollar for their paintball services and rental equipment and they deliver far less. My suggestion is go somewhere else if you are looking to rent or get a service of sorts for paintball. I will say this to be fair. The quality of their new equipment they sell seems to be on par with the price that they charge. They are courteous,helpful and knowledgeable on the other stuff they offer such as RC equipment. read more

I can't really figure this place out. I have been popping in and out for years. I collect just about everything. RC Boats, RC Cars/Trucks, Trains, Paintball among many others. During Christmas I stopped in to buy a few HO scale train cars for my son. To my surprise this hobby shop doesn't sell individual train cars, not in any scale, Z, N, G or the most popular HO. So no where in Bend sells trains during Christmas. They had a few train sets but that was it. As far as RC goes, they basically carry Traxxas and one or two other brands. Whenever I ask a question they never seem to have an answer. I was in today to get a battery for an HPI Venture, a car they actually carry. I told the gentleman behind the counter I needed an HPI Venture battery with a Tamiya connector. His response was "we don't carry Tamiya"!! I don't really know what they are selling or what their demographic is but I can't figure it out. I always try make my money stay local and support local businesses but this is exactly why I deal with online stores. It's a shame, I want to spend my money but just can't do it here. read more

I do not recommend this store for paintballers. we had our tippman serviced there and it came back missing the gauge components for my e-trigger! it wasn't an automatic anymore. they were also smug and totally unhelpful. if you want paintball gear serviced or tanks filled, go to the army surplus store. we like them soooooo much better read more

I bought an RC Car, a battery and a couple motors today. They have great prices and they are very helpful. I will definitely come back.

The stores focus is on R/C, no doubt due to the continuous income stream it provides in the form of repairs and upgrades that R/C vehicles require. As for other hobbies? They offer a token selection of plastic models that seem mostly left over. I quit even looking there since it's just the same old kits that have been there forever. Paints are under stocked as well. Model railroad supplies are also present but a very limited selection. If you need some hobby tools or building supplies it's worth a look. I sometimes take a look here to see if I can find what I need. It's a 50/50 thing. I try and support the local guys but the big chain store actually has the same and more for model building and painting supplies. Staff are friendly and will order what they don't have but I can order things online without the middle man. Bend is probably too small of a town to support a full-fledged hobby store. read more

I came here while staying in Bend to check out their selection, expecting a sad store with a few shelves of low stock. Luckily I was pleasantly surprised. I'm from a city with 400,000+ people and even though we have more hobby shops, only one of them can compare to this store's quality and selection (for R/C at least). They have a friendly staff, if not a tad 'nerdy' (this is a good thing for a hobbyists, as they know their stuff). If you can't find what you need, they will order it to their store and shipping is free of charge. Honestly I think Bend has itself quite a nice little shop in D's Hobbies. read more

Here's an UPDATE review on D's Hobbies... Last time a wrote a review I knew little of the experience of the Staff working on, or with, customers on RC cars... Because I break a few things from time to time, OK, a lot of things, I've been able to see first hand certain Staff working on, and helping customers with their RC cars issues, and have found them to be very proficient at helping customers with RC cars as well as working on them... They have been an ENORMOUS help to me as I go about learning to fly RC planes... I can't say enough of how helpful they have been to me over the last four months... They've answered many questions on how I can fix the issues I create with my RC planes... If you need parts for an RC plane or car, they'll do all they can to help you find the right part... { Here's a TIP I've learned as I listen to them talk with Customers, " If you make any upgrades to an RC car or plane, KEEP the original package so they can help you find the right part should you break something...} You'll get faster service as well as not be so frustrated as they try to find the part you're looking for... Some of us build or upgrade our RC toys, and the staff needs to know what parts we used... If not, it can take them a very long time to find the right part, if at all... Happy flying or driving!!! I went into D's and purchased an 800$ RC helicopter, Chris (one of the managers) sold me on all the bells and whistles of this RC helicopter so I I took the bait and decided to buy it even know it was a little out of my price range and experience range. I took my new toy home and took it for its first flight. This helicopter was for the pros apparently and the controls were way to sensitive for me to be able to fly it without smashing it into the ground and breaking it into a million pieces. With that being said I took the heli and transmitter into D's and asked chriss if he would help me tune the helicopter so I would be able to fly it, And you won't believe what he had to say to me. He said they don't tune customer helicopters for them and that I will have to figure it out by myself. I was shocked that he sold me some equipment and wouldn't even stand by the support of it. He brushed me off like I was nothing to him. Once he made the sale it wasn't his problem anymore. So my lesson learned is, don't shop here if you want any product support after a major purchase. You would be better off ordering your RC toy online and saving a few bucks than purchase it at this store. You have been warned. Proceed at your own risk. P.s I joined a local RC helicopter group and one of the member showed me how to turn the sensitivity down on my controller and it took 5 min and I was up and flying my helicopter. I've been there twice over the last year and left without ever finding out how much the items I was after cost (styrene modelling supplies last time on 2/26/17). Whole sections of items have no prices on them. There are a couple stickers on racks that give prices, but it's unclear what they refer to, or if they are even current. Staff are usually chatting for long periods of time with people at the counter, so it's difficult to get help. I tried to use my phone to look up pricing info on their website, but it's "Under construction". I managed to catch a clerk and brought them back to the items I was looking at to ask for info on prices. He basically said that there was a range of a couple bucks to eight bucks or more on the different kinds of items, and he couldn't tell me what anything costs without looking it up. Maybe they are aiming at a different kind of customer, but when I'm there to pick up supplies, I'd like to know how much they cost before I head to the register. A possible range of twenty bucks to a hundred bucks for less than a dozen items is a little crazy if you are working with a budget. I wanted to support a local business rather than buying online, and if they really do have "internet prices" as their website claims, I probably would have become a regular customer. But the way they do business makes it much simpler to buy online. I wanted to message them about these problems, but their website has no e-mail and their facebook account has no messaging option. read more

All the guys at D's are good guys and I don't feel they are out to get you intentionally. Unfortunately I feel there egos get in the way and they would all rather be somewhere else. I also feel none of them remember what its like to be on the customers side of the counter. I personally have been given advice that I fallowed and found to be false. When brought to there attention I was told OH I DIDN'T KNOW. No offer to make it right so Im stuck with something I have to live with or replace myself. (thanks) My opinion only a know it all gives advise on something they know nothing about! Ive brought in batteries to have different plugs put on only to get home and discover they had put male plugs on my batteries. If your new male plugs go on the ESC. (rookie mistake by a veteran pro) Also in my opinion they only carry what makes them money or what Horizon forces them to carry. (horizon requires $500 month order or they close your account) No Traxxas rigs no Hpi rigs or kits no Tamiya rigs or kits and no Kyosho in stock. Yeah they can order it and so can you so how does that help? I hoped it would be different with new owners but what happened is now Dave is gone. I never had an issue with anything Dave told me and I was never sold anything that wasn't right by him. Dave knew his stuff and wasn't just punching a time clock. I would like to see another shop come into town and force them to provide a better variety and better customer service. read more

When you are talking to the right person they have quite a lot of knowledge on things they personally know. However they make too many assumptions on things that are newer and do not research the correct answer. I have bought too many items I was told would work. Then found out in the process that no it will not work. And then they would have me buy the item that would work. The most annoying part is communication. I was told they would be able to fix my item in time for the weekend (albeit they get there parts in on time, which is another major issue) However they also said they would contact us in the even it can not be done. No call weekend arrives. No Parts No call so I denied their service and left. read more

D's Hobbies has always been a good hobby store, but since it has had a new owner for almost two years now, it's become a GREAT Hobby store... The staff are so friendly, that you'll begin to feel they know you. And if you're in there as much as I am, they will...You may even catch them playing with some of the RC toy's they sale... If you're looking to be helped because your not sure, then you'll love the service... I have had many questions over the last two years, and they have told me straight up if something will or will not work, and why... The manager has been into RC stuff for many many years, so I expect him to tell me what he thinks will, and will not work... I just brought in a plane to ask about something, and he told me that he didn't know about what I was asking, He didn't try to BS me, he just told me straight up that he didn't know... The assistant manager is top-notch also... He also has been into RC stuff for a few years now, and also has a wealth of knowledge on most anything the store carries... I must admit, I pick their brains a lot... If I come in when they're busy, I except to have to wait awhile, but they always get to me ASAP... I've talked with the owner a lot, and in the two years that I've been coming into D's, I feel he has overstocked the store for my convenience.. They used to always have to order what I needed, but now they have so many parts in stock, that I seldom have to wait for something I need anymore... Check this store out this Holiday season, and if it's anything like last year, you'll see what I mean about stocked items on hand... If they do need to order something for me, it usually only takes about three days... They seem to only carry equipment that they believe in... They can order most anything I need, but expect them to tell me if they think something may or may not be what you have heard is best for my needs... Here's what I've seen, If they tell me what they think, it's not to make a buck off me, it's so that I'll be happy with the item that I'm buying, and that it will work for me... We can all find something a little cheaper, but they sale what has worked for them, and again, what they believe, and have trust in... If you're into the RC hobbies or trains, and you live in Central Oregon, then you most likely already know what a GREAT hobby store D's has become under it's new owner...
