This post-Christmas trip to DSW was not casual. This was not a browse. This was a shoe emergency. My husband didn't just need tennis shoes -- he NEEEEEEEDED tennis shoes. The last time he bought new sneakers was... 2010. I am not making that up. That means his current pair could legally be classified as antiques. Recently we went to a Tai Chi class together, and this man -- who otherwise considers himself quite stylish -- showed up in CROCS. I briefly considered pretending I did not know him. The very next day he said, "Do we have time to go look for sneakers?" followed by, "Where does one even buy shoes around here?" Enter DSW, my hero. Not only did we find him a pair... we found two. Their selection is fantastic -- all the good brands, tons of styles, and prices that don't make your eye twitch. Men's, women's, kids', athletic, dress, boots, casual -- if your feet need it, they've got it. They even have enough socks to support a full-scale sock-puppet theater troupe. My only tiny complaint? They could absolutely use more benches. One per aisle would be dreamy. Because when you're trying on shoes like it's your job, you need a place to sit. In a world where everything is online, I love that DSW is a real, fully stocked, walk-in store with fair prices and instant gratification. And yes -- there's a rewards program. You're not going to retire on it, but I did earn $5 off my next pair, which at today's gas prices may very well cover my round-trip there and back. We walked in with a shoe crisis. Amazing selection of shoes for the holidays on sale! I got a pair of sparkly red boots, aldo silver sparkly shoes and red shoes with a silver bow. The clearance section had amazing options! My son needed some anti-slip shoes for his new job & crocs are supposed to be the best shoe for this position. We went in & right away, they were the first thing we saw. Quite handy . They had a nice collection of styles & colors. The prices were very high though. I was not expecting them to be sooooo much $$. Idk if they're always that much, or if that's considered cheap, but, $50,$60 for a pair of plastic shoes with holes in them ?? Seems a lot to me. Either way, I got him a pair & one of these days , I'm gonna get myself a pair. They're so comfy !!! I didn't look around here tonight, I was in a rush, but what I did see, I was loving ! The high boots ?? Beautiful ! Some other time I'll get a chance to look around more. The front section of the store, where the Ugg's were, was empty, so I couldn't check those out. read more

Huge store with so many shoes to choose from. Maybe it's just me, but I think the women's section has way more choices than the men. Don't get me wrong though, the mens section is a reasonable size. But the problem I had was there was a lot of corny or dated shoes/sneakers. I feel for my style of shoes I prefer the Galleria location better. read more

I can usually find good bargains on shoes and boots here. Even wide ones, which is what i need. I bought one pair of zip up boots, not for winter, and liked them so much i bought a second pair. Both pairs were under $60.00 a great deal. Also they have a good selection of running shoes as well. I bought 2 pairs as well for a reasonable price. Saucony, very comfortable. Staff are helpful there. Also they have a bargain section at the back of the store. Further markdowns. read more

Not to be confused with DSL, which Barbie and I already kinda have and are augmenting in the near future. Pretty lucky to have a DSW right here in Amherst in this excellent Plaza. I guess the big problem is that it doesn't have quite the selection of the massive one in Houston that I often go to. I still like it though and I still think it has pretty good prices. Better selection than the one in the Galleria. But perhaps not as good as I would hope from a DSW. In fact the DSWs up here in this region don't seem to be as discounted or as well stocked as the ones down south. read more

They keep this location well organized and managed. You can find things easily and the employees are super helpful if needed. Pricing is good and they will look for sizes for you if needed. I often shop online since I have a seldom available shoe size in store. I've had some luck within DSW too, and the clearance rack is worth a look. The best part is I can order online and return in store very easily and without hassle. The selection online is vast, really something for everyone. Customer service has aways been above and beyond, though sometimes a wait, but helpful and cheerful. Definitely a fan and part of the no cost VIP club where special offers are emailed or snail mailed and worth it. read more

I was just in the store. I am handicapped asking someone to help me pick crocks for my grand daughter and grandson. The girl just pointed were the crocks. I don't know much about them but that's what my grand. golden wants for the summer. I never get help from any of the worker. I end up leaving the store disappointed. I drove all the way to Niagara Falls to check other store. I won't never shop at Amherst Dws store any more. I would not spend a couple handed of dollars when I asked for help and I don't get one. Long story, as short as possible, I ordered a pair of shoes to assist with my plantar fasciitis. They sent them to me and they were a little tight. Fine. I called customer service to ask about what I can do to exchange. They told me, and mind you no one speaks good English, told me they will send me a return label that I can print out and they scheduled a FedEx pick up at 10:30 in the morning tomorrow. Then they will send me a larger size that I requested as a replacement. I waited at home till about 11:30, called customer service again to say no one came, and they told me they are on their way, I contacted them and they are on their way. I waited again. No one showed up. Called customer service again and they assured me they will be there by 3 o'clock. We're now at 4 o'clock. I called again and a guy tells me what are you talking about, we don't do that kind of thing here at DSW. He said we don't schedule pick up. You have to return it to a FedEx location or a DSW store. I told him Well, that's what I was told, he said everyone was wrong. So I went to return it to a FedEx location. They wouldn't actually put it on truck till Monday because they were done. I called customer service back to tell them what I did, and the guy said he will take care of it and make sure I get the replacement no worries. I got the email that the returned pair was received. Then today I received two pairs of the larger size. I called customer service to say why did you send me two pairs? They said we don't know, but you were going to be charged for one if you don't return it. So I called the store to tell them about my situation, and the manager was very sorry for what has happened and said she will try to call customer service and they should not charge you for that. You should be able to keep both pairs or even donate one if you don't want it. She called me back to say customer service will not budge. They said you owe the money and are going to be charged. This company may have lost a long-standing customer and I urge anyone who reads this to do not shop at DSW. read more

Stopped at DSW for a pair of sneakers. They had a great selection. I found a really comfortable pair of Brooks. When I got to the register to check out the cashier said I had no coupons, but because it was my birthday month I could get $5 off. Great store with very nice and friendly employees. read more

I ordered some boots from DSW online, which I ended up having to return (of course it's great to have a B & M store to return things to). Since I had gotten such a good deal on these boots ($50 off), I wanted to find something else. DSW allows you to apply the same discount if you do an in-store exchange that day, which is also great. Okay, so I looked online prior to going in there to save some time ('cause damn I can't stand shopping anymore ;) I found a couple of alternatives, which according to the website, were available at the store. I walked around and didn't see what I was looking for in said brand. I asked a young girl (who was clearly uninterested in assisting me) about that brand, and she said, "we don't have any of that brand for women on the floor right now. Maybe it was a one off (whatever the frig that means) or clearanced out." I'm thinking, uh no, I just saw them this morning, and they are still regular price and in stock, but whatever. Good thing I don't believe anyone, because after some more searching, I did ultimately find them. When the girl passed by me again (youngish, kind of heavy set and long brown hair), I told her I did locate the boots on the floor, to which she replied, "Oh good" or something like that. Basically it was just to say thanks for nothing and you are ineffective at your job. Anyway, the exchange was seamless, and I was able to apply the original discount to the new pair. Overall I like DSW and feel they have a decent selection for both men and women, not to mention some good deals. I am not too keen on the availability of seating for trying things on, and the lack of customer service, but I would not hesitate to shop here again. read more

I thought that this location would be better than the one at Walden Galleria, but not so much. I was looking for better brands, more selection, and perhaps more finds in the clearance section. Location itself is huge and from reading another review, it's supposed to be newer. Sales associates outnumbered the customers. Parking lot was pretty empty. I'm not sure if they were in the middle of restocking their shelves with seasonal merch, but there were quite a few that were empty. Best "brand" was Coach. :P No higher-end stuff, everything was made in China. read more

SO. many. shoes. (As I was typing that I was reminded of that horrible YouTube video from the early 2000's..if you know what I mean, sorry it's now stuck in your head too.) Anyway- if you are in need of a particular type of shoe your best bet is to come check out DSW because they have such a large selection, and you're likely to have several options. I tend to get most of my shoes from TJ Maxx, but when I want a larger selection, I always choose to come to DSW. Even though the shoes are apparently discounted, they are still pretty pricey, so do yourself a favor and make sure to check out the clearance section in the back. I've found some good finds back there. Most of them are already marked down, and then there is an additional discount depending on the color tag on the box. Happy shoe shopping! read more

DSW no longer on Maple Road?? Who knew? Made a stop at the new location on Sheridan (where Old Navy used to be) and it was great! The new space is huge and isn't as sterile and warehouse-esque as the old DSW. I liked the natural wood and painted brick design touches. Finally Buffalo is catching up on the modern updated retail store trend! There's a huge selection of both men's and women's footwear and the new space is oh-so-nice, shiny and new. So glad this plaza is getting a make-over! read more

I am a fan of good deals, and DSW is the place one can usually find some good ones. I was in need of a new pair of work shoes, so I headed over here after work. This shopping center is kind of strangely arranged, and a little run down, but there's nothing wrong whatsoever with the DSW. It's clean, it's well lit, the shelves are stocked well and although I didn't encounter any help on the sales floor (which I didn't need) I had great service at the checkout. read more

This new location is so "comfy" and more stylish then the typical, stark, fluorescent lighted other DSW stores. The store is spacious and well lit with warmer lighting. This store also has more seating in the aisles. The several times I've been here the store was kept up really well, and there were plenty of people around to help if you needed it. Got a great pair of Mizuno running shoes this last time. I was able to try on a whole bunch of sneakers and run around the store without any problem. DSW almost always has the answers to my shoe prayers. They carry a good heel, a good wedge, a good flat, a good sneaker and a good boot. Those are my essentials, and every season I can count on DSW for carrying a nice pair of one of each. While they do carry designer shoes, they have sales regularly. Their purse section is a little overpriced in my opinion. Most of the purses can be found in other stores for a bit cheaper. They have a small section of jewelry, reasonably priced. By the cashiers, they carry socks, leggings, spanx and some wallets. I never find myself waiting too long at the checkout line and they staff is nice and friendly. They aren't huge sticklers when it comes to their return policy. As long as the shoe you are returning doesn't look like it's been worn more than once to try on, they will have no problem allowing you to return it for a full refund. Don't forget about their clearance section in the back. Their clearance rack contains more than just shoes that aren't in season! They apparently have a points system here but I haven't noticed any benefits from the awards program yet and I consider myself a pretty frequent shoe buyer here. The only thing I don't love about this store is their parking lot. It is in the same shopping center as BJ's, LA Fitness, TJ Maxx, Home Goods and other stores so there is a lot of traffic flow and you need to really be observant when driving in this spot. read more

For many years I had visited the DSW at Walden Galleria and then decided to try this location. A new interior design, better selection and pretty good signage. I have always liked their selection of shoes to purchase, but this location is much larger. If I need to score a pair of shoes across the border, this will be the place to be. read more

My wife has a knee injury and cannot walk around the store yet we needed some strapped sandals she could wear on vacation. We asked a sales person named Brooke to assist us.
