The shoes they say they have in stock online versus what you find in the store is not accurate. I originally went to this location to try on the shoes before I purchased them but couldn't because they didn't have them in stock. The store was clean but there was no staff to be found on the floor to assist me or any of the other customers in the store at the time. The only staff visible were at the registers. I 1000% prefer the White Plains location and will not be returning to this one. read more

This review is not based on their shoes. I have a question for you Yonkers Gateway Center-DSW. What is it with the new vertical display, Payless Shoe Store type setup? This new setup is not esthetically pleasing to me at all. The vertical row of aisles doesn't allow that panoramic view of the store. Now in order to see what's in another aisle, you have to walk through a high-walled maze. You can no longer glance up to twenty feet away and see the entire store of shoes. You're cocooned to one aisle at a time. Not fun. I've walked into the store a select few times, walked down two aisles and then I'm out. I still can't get used to the new structure. With this setup you have to interact with the floor sales reps more than not, so you can find what you're looking for without wasting time. The plus side is my encounters have been adequate. This is my take and I'm sure there are others who are head over heels for the new setup. And if so, lucky them. If all the other DSWs are scheduled to fall into this new design concept, I'll be brick and mortar shopping elsewhere. read more

I was in the area with my aunt and stopped in DSW once I realized it was open after being closed a few months due to COVIC19. As soon as you walked in, they had a little sanitizing station with complimentary masks and antibacterial for your hands which was impressive. The store was clean and only a few customers were in there around 12noon. There stickers throughout the store reminding you of 6ft social distancing. As usual I headed straight to the clearance section to see if I could find any deals. Surprisingly the deals weren't as great as I expected. LOL. However, I was still able to get 1 pair of sneaker inspired shoes for weekend wear. I also purchased two pair of cute flats closed shoes (COVID19-no mani/pedi's yet. LOL) for work. The staff were very friendly and accommodating when I asked for assistance. I noticed a few people were picking up shoes I guess that were ordered online. I would definitely return to this store and check out new and sale items. read more

This is my neighborhood DSW location and is easy to get to from my house. However, shopping here or anywhere on Central Ave on the weekend is just mayhem. Luckily, with my work schedule, I have flexibility to come here and shop during the week when it is way less crowded. The staff here is so-so. I have been to other DSW locations where the staff is overly accommodating and helpful. They offer you shopping bags and are just genuinely nice. At this particular location, I have sometimes been met with salty dispositions and I just let it roll off my back. I mean, I'm coming for the shoes, not to make friends. I would say that if you can avoid DSW on the weekends, do that and shop during the week instead. Preferably, before people come out of work/school. Shopping here can be overwhelming. It was when I made my first purchase but I am now a premiere status member and that basically means that I have made MANY purchases so I'm proof that it's definitely worth it. If you are looking for a specific shoe, you might want to check out the DSW.com website first. It's very convenient to shop online with them but you should also go in person to check sizing so take down all pertinent info, like UPC# and item #, as well as the name of the shoe. When you finally arrive, get a shopping bag and make a bee-line to the clearance section. It is a little time consuming but I have left DSW with 2 or 3 pairs of shoes that cost under $50. They have LOTS of deals, everyday. Start with the aisle that is a half-size smaller than yours and just work your way up to your size. You will be surprised by what you find. Also, if you have never shopped at DSW, become a member. It is free and you get all kinds of perks, like discount coupons towards purchases for you birthday and ways to earn more discounts with each purchase. If you have a Facebook or Twitter account, follow DSW on Twitter and "like" their Facebook page so that you can earn even more. Facebook has free contests every week that can score you free shoes. Sometimes they just randomly reward a shoe lover with free shoes. Believe me. I JUST recently won a free pair of shoes which equated to a $50 gift card and if you know how to work your purchases, you can turn a gift of a free pair of shoes into TWO pairs!! Lastly, to be clear, I have given this particular DSW location 3 stars but I give the company 5! Their customer service is AWESOME. Oh DSW... you done me so wrong. I have been a long-time fan and shopper of DSW for many years. I have loved shopping in your bright, wide-aisled stores. Everything was so easy to see and and was so logically laid out. Sadly, after my 2 most recent visits to your Yonkers store on Central Avenue, that is very likely to change and you are likely to lose this fan and shopper. Your new floor layout, I have to say, is mired in disarray. Both visits had me walking in circles... well, no, not circles because circles make sense but the new DSW store layout does not make any sense whatsoever. You can get no sense of where you are within the store now because the angled aisles are now basically high walls of product. These walls of product now make the store much darker and less airy. The new layout also doesn't lend itself to your trying shoes on and walking up and down a longer aisle to feel how the shoe fits unless you want to carry your purse and old shoes with you because you can no longer put your purse down on the small benches and keep it in your sight as you test out your new shoes. You used to be able to spot the boot aisle from the sneaker aisle and the flats aisle from the heel aisle. You could avoid a section if say you knew that you're not looking for sparkly party heels or flip-flops. Now you have to circle back and forth to the ends of each aisle to peek and find where each and every other style is now located. And it is now impossible to get your bearings and be certain that you have checked everything out in a certain section before moving on. The only good point that still exists from your past layout is the clearance section, which is still separate from all else and located at the back of the store and still laid out by size. This might be the only store section I'll revisit, but it's doubtful as there's simply less selection in the clearance section. DSW, you have also undone the hosiery section which was all in one place, close to the register and you now have hosiery at the ends of the aisles as if you were a supermarket and trying to make sure there are boxes of rice to be grabbed as you walk through an isle to grab a can of beans or chili. How am I to figure out where the Via Spiga pantyhose are and if my size and favorite shades are in stock? Walking through multiple aisles is a waste of my time compared to when I could walk up to an entire wall of hosiery and quickly surmise if my size/preferred shades were available. Add to that, husband also found this new angled aisle set up incredibly confusing and felt he had to work through the women's section to get to the men's unlike in the previous store layout where the men's aisles were also previously better laid-out and more easily accessible. I really hope this was a one-store test and not a sign of things to come at every location. I plan to visit one of your Manhattan locations to see if this is the case. If this re-vamp is coming to all your stores, I may shop from time to time on your website for hosiery but I have always preferred to shop in brick and mortar stores for my footwear. read more

I wasn't expecting find anything here, honestly. I just stopped in to kill time before my movie and mindlessly wander the isles. The store was a little out of order but it was the end of the day so understandable. I located the Adidas section and to my surprise I found a new pair of shoes that were my style, they were comfortable and affordable! A triple win. Furthermore, the service I revived at checkout was a nice surprise. Most employees want to get out fast right at closing and you're lucky if you get even an ounce of "good" customer service. My checkout clerk was polite and took the time ask for my info to sign me up for their rewards program. We made light conversation about the struggles of standing all day at work and the need to have comfy shoes. She threw in a $10 off coupon for my next visit and made my day. I requested a manager to ask a simple question and she got defensive and gave me attitude just because I asked if I could find my coupon online since I was spending $250 and was unable to locate the coupon. another store chain that has popped up a few years ago and has grown in popularity. nice selection of ladies, men and children footware and related accessories. i always recommend to check out the web site first to see if this or any place is what you fancy. i came on a sunday and place was crowded with mostly ladies and teenagers looking for sales, just like me, and place is a decent size ,so no banging into any one today. i grabbed a bag to put my picks in, which is really not a manly thing to do but whatever, i am here for bargains, not to be macho. plenty of aisles with styles, sizes and gender selections all organized properly. ok if prices are more important then current styles, then make a quick bee-line for the back of store for deals . i was able to find a couple of casual pair of shoes for 48 bucks each, which usually go for 75 bucks. i notice store staff asking around if anyone needs help or organizing shoes that slobs leave on floor or in the wrong section. the young gal who help me find a pair of comfy slippers, help me get signed up for a free perks card, which grants me discounts on footware, acessories etc on future purchases. after checking out this store ,top to bottom, i would agree that the prices are fair and reasonable and selection are good enough even for the hard to please shoppers. i would think that the weekdays are less crowded then the weekends( cause sales gal told me so) free outdoor parking in the large spread out lot, steps from store is very convient. overall if you are a bargain hunter and love or like shoes then this place deserves a look, either online or in person. read more

Recently this store has made two terrible changes that are making me reconsider shopping here again, and I am a huge DSW shopper - I buy for myself and my husband and three teens. I buy DSW gift cards for my nieces for Christmas. I spend a lot of money here. First, they now have an exclusive line for returns and in-store pick-up. In theory that is ok, but when you have over 10 people on line that are PAYING customers and the people returning get to jump in front of you - that is just ridiculous. Who on earth thinks that is fair? All registers should be for paying customers, and people making returns or doing online pick-up can wait like the rest of us, who are all spending money. Secondly, the new set-up is terrible. I used to love walking up and down the aisles - and you got to see all the shoes and styles in one place. Now it looks like a messy warehouse - and for those of us who are vertically challenged, getting shoes is really difficult. Before, you could easily find an employee if you needed help, which is important. Now you have to go through this awkward maze and good luck finding someone. Why did they change??? read more
