They helped a 3.5 year old get stronger physically and mentally, encouraged sportsmanship and discipline with kindness. The first class was free, which was nice because C just observed from the side lines for the first 20 minutes of class until the moon bounce came out (what toddler would pass this up?!). Since C didn't really participate his first class, Ms. Susan (one of the owners) was kind enough to let him try the class again the following week free of charge. This time around, C participated and really enjoyed it. The Pre-Karate class is once a week in the early evening. The class is broken up into three parts, which I like since the attention span of a toddler is quite short. Each class begins with a short story followed by stretching while counting to 10 in Korean. Then they move onto practicing their karate skills/technique, which generally consists of stance, blocking, punching, and kicking. The last part of the class consists of a sport or game with the theme changing each month. On the last class of the month, they bring out the moon bounce. At the end of class, everyone gets a sticker. The owners, Mr. Daniel and Ms. Susan, are both fantastic. They are extremely kind and really good with children. You could tell they enjoy their jobs a lot. They both have a lot of patience, especially with the little ones. The other instructors (C has worked with Ms. Stephanie and Mr. Peter) are good as well. Besides having great, caring instructors, another thing I liked about Pandas Karate was the fact that you didn't have to sign a long term contract. Payments are monthly, with a slight discount (and free uniform) if you sign a four month contract. Pandas Karate not only teaches Karate, it also enhances listening skills, teaches manners, and can enhance one's self confidence. I highly recommend checking Pandas out!

This school is very family oriented and maintains an educational yet fun environment. The pricing here is very fair for the classes as well as their branded merchandise. The class schedule is also very easy to follow. The daily class schedule for each level of students is different for every day of the week. However, this schedule is the same every week. Once you input the dates into your calendar you can put them on repeat and you'll never miss a beat. The belt testing here is also done well in my opinion. The testing dates are announced well in advance and I've also seen them posted throughout the Dojo. As long as the students attend, participate and learn the different blocks, punches, etc then they should pass their tests each time. My son has moved up to the next belt each time he has a belt test. The new location is really cool too! They now have two floors which allows them to accommodate more classes as well. I really am glad that my son attends Okinawan Karate Dojo! I'm lookong forward to him earning his black belt here one day.

Although the kids were not able to get to the pool this year, the camp was able to make up for the temporary change. The price was reasonable and manageable. The program included valuable karate lessons taught by certified instructors. This has always been a great service. The diversity of the program has always been reflective of the county. Overall, the Okinawa Dojo summer camp program met and exceeded expectations by providing my little family member with a fun, healthy and safe environment.

If you want to learn Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido or Women's Self Defense, look no further. Master James…read moreSmith, a 6th Dan Black Belt, and his group of black belt instructors are professional and knowledgable. He will push you in traditional Tae Kwon Do from forms and patterns, to mastering kicks to weapons. And then sparring class. The toughest workout I have ever done. I have played football, baseball, basketball, weight lifted etc. This night leaves me so sweaty and exhausted. An amazing workout. I signed up my son (5 at the time) to learn martial arts. We did our home work and learned from several friends and reviews that this place would be a perfect fit. He has been in it for just over a year and has belted up to his fifth belt (blue). He was never a child who needed help with focus, although if that is needed, martial arts will help. He did have issues with confidence. He is slowly breaking out of his shell. Mr Jimmy is very good with the kids. He is tough when he needs to be, but never mean. "Punishments" are wall kicks or push ups. This forces focus, while building strength. The kids love going and respect him, classes are always fun, and having fun and laughing is a big part of the learning process here. This is not just for kids though. After watching him for almost a year, I signed up. It just looked like so much fun. I have belted up to green as of this review (my 4th belt). I look forward to class every night that I have it. I have belted up faster than children. Perhaps because I "learned" all techniques watching my son. Maybe the early belts are easier for adults. One thing I have learned is never ask for a test. You will be told when you are ready. I will be signing up for Hapkido in the fall. I have nothing but positive things to say about this "dojang" or gym. Mr Jimmy (as he is known by the kids) teaches 95% of the classes himself. He has many black belts that assist so people new to a belt are never thrown into a class with people who know the material. If you want some good exercise, and are bored with the gym (I do both) I highly recommend White Tiger Martial Arts.

Over time, I became a bit confused about how the progression and belt testing worked. From what we experienced, the kids martial arts program appeared to be structured so students learned portions of material each month (for example kicks, defense holds, or parts of their routine) and then tested for a stripe. After several months of learning that material, students then waited another month to test for the next belt. From our perspective, the overall timeline for belt advancement felt longer than we originally expected. Cost was also something we had to consider over time. When we started the monthly tuition for the martial arts training was $135 and later increased to $155. By around the 18-month point we had spent roughly $2,500 in tuition. When my grandson later enrolled at another martial arts school, his belt rank from Thompson's unfortunately was not recognized, so he had to begin again. To be fair, my grandson did enjoy some of the special events like Nerf Night and Glow Night, which were fun for the kids. In the end, for our family we were primarily looking for martial arts instruction, and the pace of belt testing and overall cost just didn't end up being the right fit for us. Parents considering a kids martial arts program may want to ask about the belt testing timeline and long-term tuition costs before enrolling.

I've practiced martial arts (Karate, Taekwondo, and Wushu) for about a total of 10 years, so i've been around several different schools and Masters and Sifus. Sifu Shannon Moore teaches traditional, practical, and sport aspects of Wing Chun. Very knowledgeable and experienced as one would know from just listening and conversing with him. Sifu Shannon Moore takes great pride in providing hands on training and development with his students as opposed to some other schools i have been to where the senior students primarily teach. You may ask... well what the heck is this Wing Chun mumbo jumbo. How is it any different from other martial art styles that also teach self-defense? Wing Chun is an amazing and beautiful kung fu style different from many of today's popular styles, such as Karate, Taekwondo, and Shaolin kung fu. While these styles may focus on blocking first and then attacking, Wing Chun teaches well-coordinated angular defense and simultaneous attack, operating on the center line, not drawing back (windup) before striking; instead striking from any position. This both increases the speed and eliminates the telegraphing of the strike. Using structure of the entire body to create power in a small space. This way, in the time it takes a student of another style to throw one or two punches, a Wing Chun student will throw at least nine. This system relies on biomechanics, not brute force and is a scientific yet theoretically based martial arts style focusing on close-range combat. Wing Chun is based on the concepts and principles of simplicity, economy of movement, and economy of energy. This art is a true internal and external system designed so you can learn the system in 3-5 years. It is a science in motion that is simple yet explosive. Bear in mind, i said learn the system in 3-5 years. Mastering is a whole other story. =) Anyone who is interested the martial arts, especially Wing Chun, should definitely come check it out. Sifu Shannon Moore even offers a FREE first introductory class so anyone interested can get their feet wet. I came, i tried, and now i'm hooked. Check it out for yourself! Keep that Wu Sao up! You'll learn what that means, one way or another. =)
