When my husband suggested that we begin studying a martial art, I can honestly say, I said OK just…read moreto make him happy. While I had studied Tae Kwon Do in my teens this would be his first experience in the arts and I wasn't certain he knew what he was getting himself into. His short list of possible disciplines was narrowed to Krav Maga, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Kenpo; after discussing the options with friends who were also martial arts students, the search for a Kenpo school began. As we live between Frederick, MD and Leesburg, VA a long drive to and from any school was a given. We tried out a school just outside of Baltimore and were less than enthusiastic. I was becoming skeptical that this was for us. My husband then found a small school in Westminster, MD he was interested in so he set up a time for us to go check it out. Mr. Mike Guercio greeted us personally and proceeded to show us around and give us our first lesson which was both private and free of charge. I was immediately impressed with his teaching methodology and easy going demeanor. We were intrigued so we decided to come back and participate in a full class. We arrived about 15 minutes early, with our 8 year old daughter, and had the opportunity to see Mr. Guercio interact with one of the children's classes. I was blown away with how effectively he worked with all of the kids who ranged in age from 5 to their early teens. The children strove to demonstrate their very best for Mr. Guercio who reinforced positive behavior and quickly dispatched negative acts with a quick word as opposed to the corporal punishment I was accustomed to. Needless to say, our class went even better, we were hooked. That experience was almost 2 1/2 years, hundreds of classes, thousands of miles and a few belt promotions ago. Some people say we're crazy when we tell them that we drive an hour, each way, 3 times a week to go to Kenpo, but we know what we've found is worth every minute. Finding a martial arts school that treats its students as individuals with the level of respect we receive at CCKK is extremely rare. The instructors are outstanding, the material is unmatched, the facilities are spacious and the price is unbeatable, who could ask for anything more?

Accomplished local wrestler goes to San Diego to dedicate his life to training Jiu Jitsu at ATOS…read moreunder Andrea Galvao for over two years. Logan Yox is the real deal. He lived on a shoestring budget and trained with all the ATOS people you see on YouTube. Time on the mat with him is GOLD. We take our Jiu Jitsu seriously, but we absolutely do not take ourselves seriously; just read the other reviews and follow on social media. #BJJ #BrazilianJiuJitsu #Grappling #Westminster. If you have trained before here are a few details... We start standing up. We drill. We do situational rolling. We do rounds. We do shark bait. We chainsaw. We keep a bucket close. Come join us, it's fun! BTW I'm 54, you can do it.

Hands down the best Brazilian jiu jitsu gym in the area. Coaches Logan and Matt are dedicated to…read moreproperly teaching jiu-jitsu as it should be taught. You WILL become better through their guidance. They take a methodical approach to demonstrating technique. I have been training there for a little over 2 years and have 0 complaints. I think the thing that I love the most is the confidence I have when traveling to other gyms (visiting friends/being on vacation etc) and training there. I know when I walk through the door of other gyms, that I will be able to handle whatever is thrown at me. Your physical fitness will improve greatly at 150 as well. I am almost 50 years old and I am in the best shape of my life after training there. The atmosphere and camaraderie is another aspect that I love. It feels like I am surrounded by a family of brothers and sisters which is crucial when training a sport like this.
