The surprising urgency with which Green Hill works to find good homes for their pets is impressive. From regularly offering pet introductions at PetSmart / Petco to their weekly spot on KPNW 1120 to discuss the Pet of the Week. They've been known to slice their adoption fees in half for animals not immediately adopted; all of the animals adopted have all of their shots / vaccinations; they are potty trained and have chips implanted, too! I need a place to leave my dog while working during the day at our Roseburg office. A few weeks before I contacted them faxed all my dogs needed info so they had it on file. My dog loved his day of play. I am so happy I have found a place to leave my dog either for the day or to board while I am travel.

A few months ago I became interested in the CCC. I called to find out about their policies for…read morevaccination, flea management and also asked if they would accept blood titers in lieu of vaccination since my dog was a very healthy senior dog (13.5yrs). They hesitantly answered no, but then stated that they didn't know what titers were. A titer is when the blood is tested for antibody levels; usually a sign of immunity. I provided a brief explanation and they said they would have to ask the owners. I thanked the woman for her time and gave my number so that they could get back to me with an answer. Several days passed and I called again. I presented the same question, explaining that I was awaiting a call back. I was told they would have to get back to me. Several days passed and I called again to find out that the answer was no. I called other comparable dog centers in Oregon and asked about their policies. The majority would accept titers from a Vet. So I felt hopeful. I took my dog to the Vet who called CCC to discuss titers with them, thinking that maybe it was a misunderstanding of titers and the Vet could provide some education to help them feel comfortable. Nope. Seeing no other alternative we made the decision to vaccinate, but space them out. She received bordetella and rabies vaccine. The vet explained reactions and what to look for. She showed behavior changes within 1hr and progressively, to where she had a severe reaction. A severe seizure and has had more since. The CCC still required one more vaccine. I spoke with three different vets who recommended against any further vaccination. They explained to me that my dog posed no greater risk to other dogs or humans than any vaccinated dog. The CCC didn't bat an eye, they said I needed a medical exemption. So, I produced the exemption; then they said I had to go see another vet, a specific "trusted vet". Five days later I saw this vet who made the same assessment. They wrote a medical exemption and reassured me that the only animal at risk from not getting this vaccine was MY OWN DOG. This was the TRUSTED VET of the CCC, whose word was as 'good as gold'. The CCC employee said she would pass the letter on to the owners. The vet said the CCC could call with any concerns. As I was leaving, the CCC employee questioned the exemption from the "Trusted Vet". The CCC employee's information was misleading and inaccurate, and directly in opposition to several doctors of veterinarian medicine who had explained the risks to me in great depth. But I didn't want to push it, she was my only connection to the owners. I asked to speak to the owners a few times, but it was met with false promises, unreturned phone calls and all together deaf ears. I received a call the next morning after dropping off this 2nd exemption and was told they would NOT allow my dog. The reason: "they just can't put all the other dogs at risk." This is when I decided to write this. I did what they asked. I made every attempt to talk with the owners, Vets offered to help me and talk with the owners. I was told that the owners of the CCC would listen to the words of the experts but when the doctors spoke they didn't listen. My other MAJOR concern: This woman explained to me that if my dog-contracted leptospirosis that people and dogs would be at risk. First of all, the dogs are vaccinated so they are protected. If my dog becomes clinical ill she will be kept home. She would be the ONLY DOG to show signs or symptoms of carrying this pathogen, but NOT the only dog capable of carrying or transmitting it, potentially to humans. Vaccinated animals are less likely to show any signs of being infected. Transmission to humans occurs from contact with urine-contaminated surfaces on an area of broken skin or in a person's mouth. Lepto survives on wet surfaces and it is easily killed with common antiseptics. Apart from poor sanitation, dogs get exposed from contact with wild animals. This, and reading another review on google, causes me to question the education of staff, ethics and safety of this facility.

Adopter Beware! I recently adopted a 6 month old pup from…read morethe Oregon Coast Humane Society. A day or two later the dog was sneezing thick yellow mucus. when i called i was told maybe she was "just getting used to the new environment", but it was also mentioned that there was "some kennel cough going around" in the facility (why want i told before?). the puppy recovered, but by then my other (fully vaccinated) dog and my sons 2 dogs (including a 2 month old puppy) were all infected with this highly contagious illness. my 2 year old dog ended up the sickest, barely able to breath and not eating or drinking for several days, it took her a month to fully recover. meanwhile, we did the responsible thing (which the kennel should have done) and isolated all of our dogs so no others would suffer as mine had. I paid a higher than expected adoption fee ($500) but rationalized that it was for a good cause. however, i am now under the impression that this kennel gets shipments of dogs and puppies and after only a couple of days makes them available to go out into the community. makes me wonder if it's about turning their "inventory" quickly, even if it means starting a possible epidemic in their community? my dog was lucky, but if she'd been old or unhealthy she might not have made it through the illness. I would not adopt from here again nor would i bring an animal to this facility. ask a lot of questions and isolate any animal if you choose to adopt from there, because they don't do it for you! that being said the staff were all very nice, but they need a policy to isolate and observe for a month, rather than 2-3 days, in order to protect the animal community when they bring shipments of animals in
