My nana has loved to take me here to check out clothes and the various cats that roam around since I was little. If I could give this place zero stars, that would be too many. Wanted to look at cats up for adoption, filled out an application, and was accepted to adopt. Situation when we came back for the 3rd time, ready to pull the plug...we were told (loudly and rudely) that it was not a good time after requesting to pick up the cat we selected. How can you be expected to get to know the cat, and more specifically that Nicole is not having a bad day. I'm sorry she is so miserable and feels like she can't be kind to others. I can honestly say, (and I'm a middle aged adult) that I have ever been spoken to this way...especially when it was completely unwarranted. There are a lot of cats that need rescuing, I urge you to pass on by S.A.R.A's as they obviously do not care about there animals finding good homes. read more

We just went into o support a local business and got yelled at by the staff. My daughter has a certified service dog, with full vest and and all the appropriate training. The person behind the counter begins immediately to tell at us "We cannot be in there with the dog. They have a cat in the building at it will attack him". Really! A business that promotes it supports animals, won't let me go in with a service animal. Worst experience ever, will not support or do business with a store who treats people with service animals this way. read more

I'm happy the people there are passionate, but their cats are all underweight (only fed 1 6oz can of wet food per day, which is way too little, even on the can it says a grown cat needs 2 cans a day!) and their adoption policies are quite strict, which puts people away from adopting. I adopted a great cat from them, but the process was waaay harder than a regular shelter. I liked the cat so I went through with it, but I would not do it again. Even my vet said the cat is underweight when I took him to the vet after the adoption. Now he is a healthy weight and much less food crazy. Their two kitten adoption policy is well meaning, but misplaced, people should prioritize kittens getting homes before promoting whatever personal views they have about cats. They also require that cats are indoor only, which I think again puts people away from getting a cat, and they promote this with using very biased statistics, like outdoor cats die much sooner, without taking into account important factors, like are they in the suburbs, the city, are there nearby animals, what is traffic like, how well do the owners look after the cat, do they have good care, shots, medication etc. read more

Love this sweet little thrift shop. Bigger than it seems at first, there are three rooms, the main one, the back bargain one, and a third that has a mix of books and nicer items. (As well as cat food and new cat toys.) Shopping with the cats roaming around is a pleasure, don't go if you are allergic to cats or dislike them. There are several walk-in caged areas that you can go into and pet the kitty or kitties waiting for homes. Some the cats are advertised as needing to go to a home together because they are bonded. I don't have a problem with that. There are plenty of single cats in the world that need homes, no shortage at all :) I save my nicest give-away stuff for this place and try to bring it by when I shop. I think their mission is quite sound and the cats look happy. read more

I love this place: a combination thrift store and cat shelter! They also have a room where you can get new items for cats, such as cat food, snacks, handmade mats for cats to sleep on (sewn or crocheted--I've gotten both), cat toys, and cat trees. The main room is all thrift store (usually with kitties loose) and beyond that is a warehouse-like room with clearance items and with kennels where you can sit down and have quality time with kitties. read more

While well intentioned, I found the people at this rescue place idealistic, rather then realistic and effectual. They have a blanket policy that kittens must be adopted in pairs as they believe this is "better" for them. That's right, two kittens or none. I feel these folks have lost site of what is important; placing an animal in a good home, that will be capable of providing adequate financial support for their animals physical and medical needs, as well as love for their lifetime. I was very happy with the wonderful employee who helped me late last year. I had lost my beloved Toby on 11/8/21 and had a bunch of rx food to donate, a carrier, toys, and a couple of other things. When I had an e-mail exchange with the owner, she came across as having such little gratitude. It's been bothering me for awhile. I was browsing reviews today and the few that mention how poorly the employees are treated inspired me to speak up. I regret donating to S.A.R.A.S. and I wish I had used NextDoor to donate to members of the community. I will never donate to S.A.R.A.S. in the future. I always wonder why people start a business like this yet really don't seem to care about the people. I sure hope the cats are treated well!! read more

I love the mission of SARA but when my roommate and I stopped in a couple days ago to check out the cats (she wants to adopt one) we were told by one of the volunteers that each cat should be adopted with another because they have all "bonded" closely with one another. We thought, Um, no! No wonder these cats aren't adopted out sooner. Out of all the people who know and love animals, the people at SARA's should know that all cats should be expected to have problems meeting a new cat and getting to know their new home. I'm sure the cats at Greenhill bond with another, but that doesn't mean you have to adopt the one you like AND the one the cat has bonded with. I'm actually disappointed with SARA. My recommendation is to not pair up the cats for adoption. Also, anyone who adopts a cat from here does not HAVE to keep the cat on the food it has been eating while there. It's perfectly fine to mix it in with the food you buy already. Adopting a cat from SARA's should not mean spending a fortune, or going home with two cats instead of the one you *really* want. read more

SARA's Treasures and SARA itself as an organization is an amazing thing!!! We have always been proud to support them anytime we can. In fact, we adopted two kitties from them many years ago before we were even residents of Oregon. One of the kitties who was not available while we were visiting the Eugene area, became available a couple of weeks after we had left. I had requested if anything fell through to let me know and sure enough, I was on the road to do a "quick kitty pick-up turn around trip" from San Francisco to Eugene and back!!! Love has no limits when it comes to an awesome pet. SARA's Treasures has a wonderful selection of merchandise that obviously supports a great cause. ALL of the dedicated staff and volunteers are amazing angels!!! We have always been amazed at the selection of goods and great deals that we have found at SARA's Treasures. It is probably a good thing that I live so far away now, or I'd be surrounded by kitties. Now, I just encourage others to adopt and provide support for organizations that go the extra mile. SARA is just such a place. Eugene is very fortunate to have a place like SARA. They set the standard for what an organization should be and how it should be operated. In a purrfect world, we wouldn't have to rescue cats at all, but since this is a cold fact of life, it warms my being to know that SARA is there. read more

Great store! Clean and well organized. It's not the biggest shop, but there is always new stuff for sale. Everything you buy is in great shape (no snags, stains, chips, etc), and the prices are the best in town for second-hand merchandise. Plus: The store is home to rescued cats who are up for adoption. Your purchase raises money for their rescue program. You can tell the staff really cares about the cats and takes great care of them. read more

This is one of those odd semi-difficult reviews, as I loved a few things about the place, but despised a couple of others. First off, it's a crammed but nice spot. More interesting clothes & trinkets than many other used places. But on the other hand, there's neo-feminism propaganda here & there (which is to say, belittling an entire gender in the name of "equality", which would - ironically & hypocritically - be utterly acceptable to these people who pretend to be on the defensive against men, when in reality they're very much on the offensive, in every sense of the word). Take a peek at the bumper sticker bin, for example. If you don't get what I'm referring to, you're either in on the anger, or just plain stupid. Another troubling thing is a comment made by another reviewer: "they then told me I would have to go through an hour of counseling to adopt a cat". And that's just messed up. There are a lot of irresponsible pet owners out there, but you can't force them to put Mr Whiskers on a pedestal for the rest of his life. Life happens, situations come & go. That, and people generally aren't even considerate toward their own family members! This sort of latent "Pet Gestapo"-ish tactic is crassly ideological at best, and overty insulting in actual reality. But to swing the pendulum back the other direction again: they have cats! Just hanging out in the store. Yes, I'm a sucker and an unobjective sellout for cats. Nice kitties make everything better. That, and the chick working there was more pleasant toward me than the aforementioned deliberate vibe would suggest. Less bitterness and more professionalism than I might have expected, in other words. Anyway, had I reviewed the place just from standing in the doorway, it would have been an easy five stars. But if a place of business is okay with glibly making half the population uncomfortable, then some of that population will be docking their review of the place, and probably not ever coming back. :\ read more

I love S.A.R.A.'s! Such a great little place, it is where I donate all my new and used unwanted stuff for benefit of the kitties! I have shopped there quite a bit and found clothes, school supplies, kitchen wares, rings, and of course, animal stuff! I always recommend starting thrift shopping here before anywhere else! I love Sara's and I think their policy of adopting out 2 kittens is excellent. Cats are social animals and they like to keep each other company and play with each other. Why would you just get one kitten and make it lonely? Besides it's great fun to watch them play together. We adopted a brother and sister pair and they still play together at 4 years old. read more

It's a cool thrift shop filled with everything you could ever want (dishes, records, clothes...), but it has way better prices than most thrift shops and everything is in way better shape. I too was denied the adoption of a kitten only because this woman refused this kitten a house without another kitten. She acted offended she was rude. And basically she exploits cats and commingles her private business with her cat's business. There is no excuse for denying a kitten a new home; her 2 cat adoption policy is discriminatory. And how do we know this policy applies to all individuals that walk into her shop. i sought out SARA's when I was looking to adopt a kitty. They're apparently lesser-known than Greenhill, though I'd heard they feed their cats "better" food. I also love to support a local 501(c)3. I called ahead to figure out the adoption process, and told the woman on the phone which cat I was interested in. When I went in, the store workers knew exactly which cat I was there for. They'd been told about my call, and led me back to see the kitty immediately. I fell in love with him and went through a couple interviews - one about my general interests pertaining to cats, and one about the cat himself... how to take care of him (trimming nails, where he shouldn't sleep), what to feed him, etc. I was given a lot of information about him specifically. For the second interview, I even sat in his cage with him! When I came to pick him up, I was given a bag of treats specific to his interests and some coupons. I went in a month later to buy some food and was asked how he was doing. I received calls about him once a week for a month - how is he? Is anything alarming happening? Whatever trouble I had, they answered my questions accurately and quickly. Case in point: SARA's really cares about its kitties. The employees and volunteers know what they're talking about. Their stuff - food, treats, litter - is a bit pricey, and as a lady on a budget I can't always shop there - but I know they care deeply about animals and take their time to answer any questions that may arise so their cats are taken care of the best they can be. In spite of SARA's commitment to cats, I would think twice about supporting this organization. Today, I witnessed extremely rude and aggressive behavior from the Executive Director and the Cat Rescue Coordinator. A friend who adopted a cat was reaching out to SARA's for help in getting the medical treatment she could not afford for her cat. In response, she was berated and angrily accused of negligence and her cat was confiscated. I was appalled at the disrespect and judgment with which they treated my friend. A non-profit funded by contributions from the community deserves to have a professional executive director and program coordinators who can be supportive of two-leggeds as well as four. (Melinda admitted she does not care about people. Just cats.) Unfortunately, there appears to be is darkness at the heart of SARA's Treasures. read more

If you are in the neighborhood anyway, you can stop in at the other thrift stores & have a great Chinese meal at Twin Dragon, which isn't super cheap but it's GOOD (better than GOOD TASTE was last time I tried them). I had to see it to believe it. The place is actually full of kitties: snoozing on the scarves, helping out at the register, monitoring loss prevention from the tops of shelves. They don't have a huge selection of wares, but he prices are decent -- better than some of the bigger chain thrift stores. And they also sell high quality cat food. read more

Although the idea behind SARA's is a great cause the staff will turn you off. They are self righteous and downright rude. I asked about an item in relation to the price and was explaining why I was asking the question when the MANAGER interrupted me in a borderline yelling tone and gave me a snot-nosed, short, demeaning answer that made no sense. She must have been offended that I was questioning the price of an item. Saving cats is great but leave your attitude at home. I would not recommend this place for anything but adopting cats because it is quite dirty. They let the cats roam in the store where all the merchandise, including clothes and eating utensils, is located. read more

Cats and thrift store finds!? What more could you want? For a truly unique experience you should make your way over to this cat rescue/thrift store and see if you can find your own treasures. When you walk in (don't let the kitties out!) you will find a small thrift store with two rooms and a back room with clothing, decorations, furniture, dish ware, shoes and even cat food. Among all of these items are purring cats who are looking for their forever homes. They are sleeping on perches, in their cat beds under racks of clothes or in their kennels in the back room. I didn't really see anything that I wanted to buy and I can't commit to taking in a new kitty but I do appreciate what they do and that they are helping these felines in need. I did notice a lot of cats needed to be adopted as a pair which might make it hard for them to get adopted at all but hopefully they get new homes often to make room for new rescues. read more
