To start, I live in Philly & my daughter was Penn State Altoona at the time & on 4/26/26 she turned 20yrs old and this was the first time I wasn't going to celebrating with her and being hands on with all the plans. But with the secret help of her College Friends I was able to plan an amazing Birthday weekend in state college for all of them to enjoy but the most stressful thing was find her the perfect Cake!! Her friends wanted to go to pick one up from a Supermarket but because I wasn't going to be there I wanted to make everything about her Bday super special and a market cake wasn't going to work unfortunately in addition they were college kids with no vehicles I didn't want to put that taste on them and it may or many not get done. I was now less then 2wks from her Bday weekend and just now starting the search for the perfect "I'm sorry Mommy couldn't be there but hopefully this amazingly crafted artwork now called your Bday Cake makes up for it" type of Cake. So my 3-4hrs long search begun..I needed to find a Bakery that could make her a cake that not only looked good but tastes even better (I have been disappointed in the past so my research was on the First 48 level, ...a bad cake can ruin entire Bday in my opinion. In addition, I needed discreet delivery services. After hours of searching, reading reviews & scanning every social media accounts as well as any and all websites that mentioned their names to ensure all T's were crossed and the reviews were actually verified by real people before choosing Dolce Vita Desserts. Their designs were all so creative & beautifully done and after emailing a few times with Anthony he not only confirmed my specific request but he also ensure that they could/would customize to design I preferred..so I took two Of their designs (because I loved them both and couldn't decide one over the other) and made it one :) I also explained to Anthony my need desperately need for delivery ..( their site mentioned how delivery was limited) I was willing to send it as uber package delivery even I was praying I wouldn't have to do that. But, Anthony not only approved my delivery he also advised me to touch bases with the Hotel staff and provide them with the box dimensions to ensure their fridge would be able fit/store and also gave specifics on how to properly store ...information I didn't even think to consider. I whole heartily appreciate all that Anthony has done to help make my daughter's Birthday super special. Everything was executed seamlessly, even down to the delivery confirmation email I received from Both Dolce & the Hotel. My daughter not only loved her surprise bday weekend but she was in love with her cake!! I ordered the 6" inch round white cake with strawberry preserves. I thought that since only my daughter & 3 of her friends were celebrating with her that they would take the left over cake to share with others at their dorm but she told me the cake was so good they devoured it. Not one crumb was left. Which was done after making a photo shoot with the cake! She loved everything about that cake! My only regret...is the fact that I wasn't able to try it myself! I recommend Dolce Vita Desserts to every one! You won't be disappointed!!

It's a small shop located in a small strip shopping center. In keeping with bagel visit part 1, I had a poppy seed bagel (toasted) with cream cheese. The bagel wasn't heavy on poppy seeds--which I always appreciate. The shop provided a generous schmear of cream cheese and--interestingly--sliced the bagel into quarters. Haven't seen that before. The bagel was super tasty and the service was great. Bagel Love is a small shop but also has ordering kiosks. ANOTHER great bagel find in State College that I definitely recommend. I'd fallen in love with Monkey Business last summer after trying it at an ice cream shop close to my house, but somehow I'd never actually made it to the Creamery itself. Correcting that oversight immediately became part of the day's adventure plan! We arrived around 12:30 on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, fully expecting National Ice Cream Day to mean complete chaos. Surprisingly, it wasn't. Busy? Absolutely. But the line moved quickly, everyone seemed to know exactly what they were doing and the whole operation ran like a well-oiled ice cream machine. Then I looked around. Cheese. Sticky buns. Chocolate milk. Bagels. Ice cream. Ice cream. More ice cream. At one point I turned to my Adventure Buddy and said..."I could live here." Ordering couldn't have been easier. First, you tell the cashier whether you're getting a cone, bowl or shake and pay. Then you move down to the ice cream counter, where you pick your flavor. Finally...you wait for your number to be called so someone can hand you what can only be described as an absurdly generous serving of happiness. While I waited, I sampled the Grilled Stickies flavor. Big mistake! It was phenomenal! For approximately fifteen seconds, I seriously considered abandoning my beloved Monkey Business and trying something new. Fortunately...I came to my senses. Monkey Business and I have history together. When my number was called, the gentleman behind the counter handed me a bowl that was significantly larger than I expected. And yes...I audibly squealed. Again. Right there in the middle of the Creamery. I looked at him and said, "You absolutely made my day!" Because he had. We found a table outside on the patio to enjoy the beautiful weather, performed a few completely necessary happy food dances and proceeded to enjoy every glorious bite of what is still, without question, my favorite ice cream flavor on Earth. For only $6. On National Ice Cream Day. Honestly, I don't know how that day could've gotten any better. PRO TIP: Don't skip the sample spoon! There are so many incredible flavors that it's worth trying something new before committing. Just be warned...you may accidentally discover another favorite! I also learned that Berkey Creamery ships ice cream to the lower 48 states. This information feels...dangerous. Living only about an hour and a half away, I probably don't need to have Monkey Business shipped directly to my house. But...I may have to test the process someday. You know...in the name of science! If you're anywhere near State College, do yourself a favor and make the stop. Whether you're a Penn State fan, an ice cream enthusiast or just someone who appreciates an exceptionally well-run small operation, Berkey Creamery absolutely lives up to its legendary reputation. That said, while there are some really wonderful features of their ice cream, particularly the texture of small chocolate chunks they embed, it's not actually the greatest ice cream in existence.
