Holy grail of Laos food. This is a good truck located next to a small, hole in the wall Asian market near the airport. I find that texting for their daily specials is easy. And texting my order for pick up so it's ready for me upon arrival is even better. I've searched high and low for authentic Laos style papaya salad ever since living in Charlotte. My only regret is not trying this place earlier. The Lao style papaya salad is full of padek. It's funky, flavorful, balanced extremely well with all flavors. And the spicy is spicy. I mean I was sucking in air, my lips were on fire. This is not your typical #5 spicy. I eat spicy all the time and crave for spice when eating out. No one will do it like this place. Do not order the spicy if you're not accustomed to eating fire alarm hot food. The Lao sausage and sticky rice is perfect to eat with the papaya salad too. The sausage are slightly sweet and sticky. I always get the chicken larb when they have it too. It's bright and herbaceous while being earthy at the same time. And get this - the food is affordable. It's so hard to not keep ordering because you're just like damn, I can get everything. Lol. Maybe that's just the foodie in me. I really enjoy Laotian food, so when I found out about this place I was looking forward to trying it. Covid-19: the truck is parked outside V & K Asian Market. You can text the number on the menu photos with your order in advance. They'll let you know what specials are available too. We got Papaya Salad (medium spice), Chicken Larb, Beef Larb, 3 piece Lao Sausage Combo, and Sugar Cane Juice. I honestly wasn't a huge fan of anything. The best thing was the Lao Sausage. The Larb was very dry. The Papaya Salad was ok. I like spicy food and medium was too spicy, so I'd go way below your normal spice level. OMG. I am SO sorry for not leaving this review sooner. JP Food To Go is one of my absolute favorite places to get food in Charlotte. However, I can only vouch for the following three items: 1) their chicken on a stick combo, 2) their fried egg rolls, and 3) their Thai iced tea. If you order any or all of those items, you will be in absolute heaven. The chicken is so crispy, juicy, and flavorful. And it comes with perfectly cooked sticky rice and the most addicting green sauce ever. When you order fried egg rolls, you get EIGHT, and they are massive! They come with this sweet, delicious sauce that's like the cousin of duck sauce. Lastly, their Thai iced tea is just fantastic! I think a part of me subconsciously didn't write this review sooner because I didn't want my favorite spot to get too busy and run out of food. I LOVE this food truck. I swear I have an addiction to their food. They are usually parked by the airport in the same parking lot as an asian market and they update their Facebook page regularly with specials. You can text your order and it'll be ready for pickup when you get there. Unlike most food trucks in Charlotte, they have GREAT prices. I haven't gotten the chance to try everything yet because I'm constantly craving their Chicken Larb, Beef Soup (intestines galore), and Lao Sausage with Sticky Rice. My taste buds have been in spice training during COVID and I'm totally digging the heat in some of these dishes! I've been going here for a couple years now. The food truck location is close to my work right next to the airport. It's right next to the Laos Asian Market. So you can't really sit and eat as this place is a grab and go spot. I usually text my order ahead of time but sometimes there's no response... but that's the only negative experience I've had with this establishment. The menu is very inexpensive with most of their items being $5 or less and the portions are very generous! Their daily specials usually sell out very quick too so call in early if you can! Located next to a Southeast Asian grocery store, it's tucked away so inconspicuously that at first you'd likely pass by without even knowing it was there. We were referred by a friend, and definitely wanted to give it a try. The first thing you should know about JP Food to Go is that its very cheap. I don't think I saw one entree on the menu that was over $5, which is very impressive. We opted for the Laos Sausage combo, the papaya salad, the the hot wings. Papaya Salad -- When ordered spicy, it's very spicy and very good. Definitely a go-to item if you're a fan of papaya salad (if you've never had it before, it's definitely not for everyone). Laos Sausage Combo -- Served with chili paste and sticky rice, these are pretty good. The chili paste doesn't have much flavor, but the sausages are pretty flavorful and well-cooked. I found myself wanting more of them, but for $5, the portion is fair. Hot Wings - I found myself very surprised by both how small the wings are, and how sweet they were. While you would imagine hot wings to have a strong vinegar flavor, that is not the case with these, as they are quite sweet, which is an interesting departure from how hot wings typically are. Overall, I'll be back and will definitely be springing for the Pad Thai and some of the larger entrees on my next visit. True definition of a hole in the wall type of place even though it's a food truck. It's right by the airport and has a small parking lot but you'll usually have no problem finding a spot. Their menu is on the wall and you can either call ahead to order or just order at the window. My go-tos are the papaya salad, Laos sausages, sticky rice or the Pad Thai. I usually get everything medium spicy because their medium is like any other restaurant's level 5 so there's my warning so anything higher and I'm sweating the Nile River on my forehead. A flavorful soup consisting of simmered chicken, spices and a bit of heat. The spring rolls with the peanut dipping sauce and the sugar cane drink were also good. However, the Beef larb and the papaya salad both fell slightly short. They both had great flavors but the larb was a bit dry and the papaya salad was too spicy. I like spicy food but this just a bit too much. This was my second time trying Laotian food and my expectations were not high as it was a food truck but they delivered. We drive across town just to pick up lunch from the food truck. Great menu items for about $5 a plate. It's fulfilling as well. Recommend if you're wanting to grab something for lunch but are on a budget. Everything on the menu is good so you can't go wrong with whatever you pick. In fact it's the best fried rice and Thai ice tea I have had in a long time. This food truck is pretty good, and the owner's of the shop and the good truck are really nice people. I stay about 15 mins away and don't usually come that way unless I am heading to my parents house. But usually when I go there it's because I have to get something out the Lao's store they are parked at. And when I do get food from the food truck I always get the Beef Laab, chicken Laab and the papaya salad. The Beef and chicken Laab so have a spicky kick, and the papaya salad you can choose how spicy you want it. They also have pad Thai, Lo main, Lao's sauce with sticky rice and a dipping sauce. They have a lot of choices and all of the food only cost 5 dollars each, so they do get pretty busy. When they have cane sugar juice. If you never had it you should try it. Everything I had over there is pretty good. Give them a try they are located on Little Rock road beside the old Hardee's. A young boy took my order, basically I ordered my iced coffee with light on cream and sugar, I got it loaded with cream and tons of sugar. Huge disappointment! I arrived on a Saturday around 3pm and missed out on the Nam Khao, but had the papaya salad, sticky rice, Kowloon, sugar cane juice, chicken wings w/fried rice, and the tapioca dessert. Quality food for a good price. We came here on our way to find an Asian market. The food truck is outside of a small Thai/Vietnamese(?) market. There is one picnic table for seating. The food was made to order and very tasty. We got egg rolls, wings, and pad see ew all for $15. The noodles were well made with a distinct soy sauce taste and not too salty. The guys who run the truck are very nice...and I've previously enjoyed the Thai iced tea. The picnic table by the parking lot is also quaint. However, today, we could not eat the Papaya salad or the curry. The salad was overpowering with fish sauce and the curry was not very flavorful at all. We ended up throwing out our lunches. I also had the Pad See Eu and it was my third time having it, and I realized that I did not like the flavor of the chicken or the noodles much at all. We also threw most of it away. read more
