However, as I went through the claim process with my insurer and reached out to other HVAC companies, I was given much better and cheaper proposals. Aside from that, I asked Kearney to repair everything electrical related to the fire. However, as they were finishing up the job they said they didn't have the parts they needed to do the last component, and asked if they could do it later when the HVAC replaced. Ultimately I didn't have them do the HVAC, but asked them to come back to fix the last remaining part of the electrical (which was actually the component that caused the fire and was a safety hazard). At that point, they told me I'd have to get a new quote and pay in-full for that visit separately. When I originally asked them for a quote/repair on everything electrical related to the fire, I thought they would at least repair the thing that caused the fire. But, because I was accommodating and agreed to let him come back later, I'm getting charged again. Partially, this is on me for being too trusting, but it's also on them for bad faith business practices.

Having had the experience, I will not be contacting them in the future. Started with walk-through to determine number of main lines, ducts, etc. Wrote estimate for almost $300 in addition to the $50 paid for the Amazon Local deal. Told him "I was under the impression this service was already paid for when we purchased the deal." He explained that we have more lines/ducts than covered by the deal (in our 1500 sq ft house) and we needed a sanitation service to the system. I said "no thank you" and he wrote on the estimate that he explained to me but I declined. He told his partner "it's the voucher only" and they began working. The father & son team brought an industrial vacuum inside the house and unscrewed the covers of the baseboard vent ducts. They snaked hoses from the vacuum down into the ducts. After they left I went around to each vent and they had left dust, wood particles, and other mess all around each vent duct. In addition they scratched the hardwood floor in bedroom in 2 places when they moved the bed. After the vacuuming they proceeded to tell me all the reasons why household dust is toxic and how often the system should be cleaned, according to EPA guidelines. They were here for about 30-40 minutes.

My 1500 sq ft ranch had more ducts and registers than included in the coupon. Steve priced out the cost to include the whole system and an optional Sanitizer treatment (for allergens like dust mites, etc). It was clear that my 50 yr old (new to me) home had never had duct cleaning, and it didn't make sense to do some of the vents and not all (since it recirculates anyway!) so I accepted the proposal minus sanitizer. Past owners included indoor smokers and cats, so I was anxious to get this done before winter comes and we turn on the heat (no Central Air). I'm even more glad now that I've seen what was in there- super gross! Steve was here about 2 hrs. As previous reviewer mentioned, the cleaning involved an industrial HEPA vacuum and hose with a scrubby-brush-wand to go into the ducts. It was noisy as most heavy-duty machines are, but not terrible. When done he replaced all the louvers/vent covers and vacuumed around the openings, so there was no dust or debris left on the floors. Very likely to call on Air Scrubbers again in the 5-7 years recommended for an oil-heat system.
