I first dealt with NETR a couple years ago when they were one of the City of Somerville's official partners on a heat pump (ductless mini split) installation campaign. We wanted to install a 1 or 2-zone system, but my condo has a number of unique complications, though, so we weren't able to go forward with the project at that time. Fast-forward a couple years, and we decided to revisit the idea. We also decided to go big or go home this time, with a 5-zone system for the whole house. This time we got estimates from two other companies first, but one provided an extremely high quote and the other basically said that we were asking an impossible job that they could not do. So we reached out to NETR again, and it worked out great. The NETR price was literally more than 10K less (!!!) than what we were quoted by the other company, and they took care of all the secondary project burdens like City of Somerville building permits, upgrading our electrical service, etc. They gave us a clear idea of what to expect in terms of construction disruption, the workers were friendly and unobtrusive, and they finished the work right on schedule. It's too early to speak with certainty about the quality of the system we installed, but we are thrilled to finally have this project complete, and are very satisfied with the pricing, service, and installation work. read more

My wife and I called Netr but a Sila truck showed up so I assume everyone talking about them being a past reputable company and now being terrible is true. We called because our central air shut down. A technician ( Eric) showed up and immediately figured out it was just a faulty capacitor. We were told it would cost about $ 600 to repair with a one year warranty but if we wanted a better capacitor with a 5 year warranty the cost would be about $850. I asked him why it was so expensive if its a simple job and the part is low cost and he mumbled something about overhead and the cost of doing bussiness. When we got the bill it was $979 with the diagnostic added in. Ive since looked up the going rate for this work and it runs around $150-$300 so we were charged triple the normal cost. I really feel like my wife and I were taken advantage of because we are both elderly. Please avoid this preadatory company at all costs. read more

Beware: N.E.T.R. is not the same company anymore. They were purchased by Sila, a large multi‑state HVAC operator, and the service experience has changed dramatically. I've used N.E.T.R. personally and professionally for years -- home heat pumps and server room cooling -- and they were excellent. Installers were great, support was responsive and follow‑up was reliable. Based on that history, I hired them last fall for a whole‑house heat pump installation on a 2,000 sq ft townhouse. The installation itself went fine. The problem is support. I can't get anyone to help me with a basic troubleshooting issue. About half the time the phone system asks you to leave a message. Emails and website forms go unanswered. When someone does pick up, it's an AI front‑end that makes it very hard to reach a human. When I finally get a person, all they can do is schedule an appointment -- no technical support, no follow‑up, no callbacks. My current issue is that the first‑floor unit struggles to keep the house below 78° during a heat wave. I suspect it's a communication/calibration issue between the unit and the wireless thermostat, but I can't get anyone to talk through it. I'll try to get this resolved while the installation warranty is still active. After that, I'll be finding a different local Mitsubishi contractor for service. read more

NETR did a great job for us in about 2020, installing several units. Since then, they came back to clean the splits. Unfortunately, this year, they have been a disaster. This spring, I pre-paid for the cleaning and scheduled an appointment. No one showed up or called. I rescheduled. No one showed up. The same happened a 3rd time. Who are they kidding? read more

I called NETR and had to go through some AI computer agent to eventually talk to an actual person. They say they're local but it turns out they were bought out by private equity-backed Sila out of King of Prussia PA. Price quoted was 2.5 times higher than the local HVAC too. read more

In July 2023, NETR installed a $39,000 LG Whole House Heat Pump system in my home (3 indoor units, attic ductwork, outdoor unit, and a branch box). Since then, I've experienced numerous installation and equipment issues--some posing real safety risks. I found out NETR never pulled any permits for the work. Despite confirming their mistake and promising to fix it, as of July 2025 the project still lacks proper permits and inspections. My town Building Department has followed up several times requesting missing info and payment--NETR refuses to respond to myself or the town, and I am left chasing them. I've had to involve third-party contractors and LG's support team just to get basic issues resolved. NETR has been out to my home at least 10 times since system install, and shown no accountability for any of the downtime, frustration, and safety issues related to this expensive system. If you're considering NETR--do your homework. I regret trusting them with such an expensive and critical system. Having had a previously positive experience with this company I was very disappointed by their recent service visit. Not only was I not provided with a written review of one of my furnaces (simply told I needed a new one), but in recommended service updates they suggested replacing a thermostat for a cost of over $500! ONE thermostat!! Of course I know I can get an excellent similar thermostat from MASS SAVE for around $5!! Second, after checking the second furnace, the technician did NOT replace the filter and did not leave a report. What's going on here? Feels like an attempt to not do a proper review and to rip off the installation of a new thermostat. I am VERY disappointed. read more

I am only now seeing some of the poor reviews of Sila, and I have to add to these! I had NETR (before they were purchased) install my new system (heatpump, hi-velocity forced air unit) - to tune of over $22k six years ago. I have had annual service plans with the company ever since, and all has gone reasonably well, until this year. First up, the email to remind me to renew my service plan and schedule my spring tune-up went to junk mail, where I don't normally look. Second, my AC stopped working during this recent hotspell. When I called to request a repair job, I was told there would be a 4 month wait period (yes, you heard it correctly, 4 months! I had to ask the agent to repeat this several times as I was flabbergasted.)...basically just do without the AC unit during the summer! I requested a call back from customer service, and was promised I would be called before the end of the day, but definitely no later than the next morning. Nix, nada, nothing. Three days (after 2 phone calls and an email) I am still waiting. It's sad, because NETR were so good. But if you want my opinion, steer clear of this lot. read more

N.E.T.R. now outsources service to Sila. And Sila has a horrible reputation for continually cancelling appointments. Sila has now cancelled by service twice. If your HVAC is down, you may be out of luck for a month or two. If N.E.T.R. returns to doing its own servicing, I will change my rating. read more

I have not hired them and k don't think you should either. It is hard to get a hold of them (staffing problem?). I can only imagine what I'd do in an emergency. When they don't pick up the phone, some answering service will. At first, you need to talk to an AI robot; once you get past that, a person on the phone, very friendly, will ask you all kinds of details about the problem, and then promises a call back. That call back comes, however, the answering service hasn't given any of the information you gave them to the company so you have to explain it again and then they get rude when you complain about it. I have been through that ordeal twice now it has taken me 48 hours to get exactly nowhere. I cannot recommend this Company. They don't have their business under control. They cannot be relied upon. Run do not walk away from this business. They were recommended to me by Mass Save ( this makes it more disappointing ). Two heat pumps were installed and I was planning on paying upfront and getting a rebate from Mass Save. Installing heating units or other big household appliances is unfamiliar to me due to the fact I am a widow and my husband use to take care of these things. Unfortunately, I shared this with the salesperson, who, I believe, took advantage of me. Instead of paying up front, the salesperson convinced me to take out an interest free loan. What I did not know, was this was a credit card loan with a promotion and if I did not pay the balance after two years, I would be charged interest retroactively. Not to complicate things too much with the details , but, I now owe thousands of dollars in interest after paying monthly for 2.5 years. They should have never offered me this unscrupulous loan. There were fairer loans they could have offered to me, or, just let me pay upfront liked I planned. NETR was not helpful when I explained to them that I was mislead by the salesperson. In fact, when I told them I was going to warn people online not to use their company, they threatened legal action against me. This is not a company that cares about their customers and I highly recommend not using them. read more

Ugh. So disappointing! I thought I found a good, reliable company for our heat pump. I actually used them for mini split cleaning in the spring and everything went well. However, last week I found out that the mini split only works in cooling mode, not heating (I don't think that's related to cleaning). So, when I saw that they're advertising $49 service repair diagnostic - I thought that's great! Called them, they said it's usually $225, but someone from the office will confirm the pricing before sending out technician. Few hours later got a call from NETR office and they reassured that the price is $49 as per their website. However, today the technician showed up and while starting to setup he said that the $49 is the cost of the first half hour only and then it's $325 AN HOUR. And the diagnostic can take "quite some time". Absolutely shameful bait & switch + false advertising. Office later called and confirmed that they charge so much, despite what their own website says. They offered to expand $49 to the first hour instead of half, but still any time after that is $325. No, thank you. I will find a reputable business that honors their word and doesn't pull tricks like this. read more

This company has the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I called the emergency repair line and it still took 5 days to schedule. They were supposed to come between 10 and 3. I called several times to see "how close" they were. I literally got a bot who said " I sense frustration and wish I could help. I'll have a live person call you." The live person called 24 hours later and blamed me for not being home when the technician showed up at 5pm that night. How do you spell TERRIBLE service. read more

Had mini splits installed throughout the Mass Save Program, they came and installed them, had an inspection on the house and found out they never pulled a permit, so I got a $490.00 fine. Contacted them to get the permit pulled and took about 3 weeks to get an answer to that, they pulled the permit and have been trey in for about three weeks again to get Erika to answer my messages because payment is due for the permit to be closed. Maybe I should have waited a few months to see how I love the system overall but this is more about the installation and service from N.E.T.R. that I recently experienced and not the product itself. I started my process back over the summer and it took me about six months to get fully installed. They are now located in a nondescript building in North Andover. I decided to just show up and speak with a salesperson about products they had to offer. I figured there would be a showroom to see everything but that wasn't the case and they are apparently still working on getting one in the North Shore area. I was a total newbie at the time but knew I was looking for the most energy efficient system possible and I was pointed in the direction of those that were above 18 SEER rating. Before you do anything or think about putting in a ductless mini-split system, you need to visit MassSave's website (just do a google search since I can't post a URL) and get a Home Energy Audit completed. I can't stress this enough because you will possibly be able to receive fairly large cash rebates because of it once the install is complete. So after my visit and getting some brochures from their HQ, I set up the audit almost immediately and they came out in about three weeks time. I had baseboard, electric heat that was costing me way more than what I wanted to spend in January in February that needed to go and received word that I would qualify for the rebate program along with a 0% interest loan over seven years, both keys to making this work. After the audit, I was contacted by Russell at N.E.T.R. who did an in-person consultation, measuring rooms and laying out the amount of BTU's everywhere I wanted to install the wall units. A few weeks passed and I ultimately ended up where I wanted to be with some additional perks thrown in. The install was scheduled for about a month after contracts were signed. The install was to take place over two days and with our first winter storm on the ground, I was worried they would have to cancel. They actually do installs year round and I feel for the guys who will be outside in the dead of winter putting these up. The first day, a crew of three arrived on time along with Russell to go over the specs one more time. After throwing down clothes so they wouldn't get my carpets dirty, they immediately got to work putting up the indoor units and then began working on the siding pieces while the electrician did his part (that I also didn't need to hire on the side, they took care of this). The next day, the compressor was brought in, hooked up along with the branch box that was mounted to my cement wall in the basement. A few hours later, everything was ready to go and they took about a half hour to show me how the system worked, from the fairly complicated remote controllers to cleaning the filters. Everything was professional from day one and after our first night of wonderful sleep, we were amazed at how well the systems are already keeping the rooms warm and can't wait to switch it over in the dead of summer for centralized air conditioning. You're getting top notch service from these guys and it shows, they come highly recommended and if you have any questions about the process, reach out to me via messaging. Licks Ice Cream and we have 17 locations in and around Boston We have a wonderful relationship with them for my residential, and commercial, AC and refrigeration needs. They actually care about their customers, are very communicative, show up when scheduled, and stay until the job is done. If they're tied up on a job and are running late they call and let you know what's happening. The quality of their work is impeccable and their field technicians are polite and efficient. They are a rarity among service companies today. They're not perfect but when there is a problem they stand behind their work and remedy it as soon as possible. I used this company twice to install mini-splits in two different houses. The first installation was great. The second job was quite extensive (and expensive) and ended poorly. I noticed a necklace was missing from my room and spoke to the owner who said he would investigate and get back to me. I never heard from him and later discovered more missing, valuable jewelry. I filed a report with the police but it was too late to do anything. Too bad for the honorable workers in this company but I was ripped off and would never recommend this company. I am sorry but I cannot recommend LG mini splits from NETR. Since our unit was installed, the AC does not work. NETR sent technicians, who determined the unit was faulty. Technicians were professional and knowledgeable. But NETR will not replace the unit until a manufacturer's representative comes to look at it. Still waiting for that appointment. read more

I have done business with this company for over 15 years having done 4 different homes with their minisplits. I recently had them come do maintenance on a property in January. The maintenance person did not collect payment at time of cleaning. Five weeks later I receive a phone call from the owner stating I have been sent numerous emails and invoices, which they received no response to and that if I didn't pay by Friday I would have lawyers contacting me, a lien on my house and I would be put out for collections. I explained I have never received an invoice or an email and I only received two phone calls, which I immediately returned and paid it with a credit card that day. I Was always happy with the service but very disappointed that a long-standing customer who has spent over $30,000 with this company is Called and threatened for a $600 bill after only five weeks. I did ask for copies of the invoices that were sent to me and the emails. I was conveniently told they had a computer crash and could not retrieve any of them. There are other options out there but I always try to use local companies. But after I was treated in this manner (hung up on also) and being a long time customer, this company needs to really rethink how they Talk to and treat their loyal customers. We had a horrible, bordering on traumatic, experience with NETR. They caused significant property damage to our newly renovated space, had very unprofessional staff who were loudly yelling and swearing while working (which was particularly annoying given we were working from home), and now I noticed one of the units they installed last summer is falling off the wall. While I imagine they would send someone out to fix the unit falling off the wall, our experience with them was so bad I do not want them in my home and will now pay a different contractor to better attach the unit. read more

Had NETR install a three zone mini split system in our place in Cambridge, MA. Their prices were about average of the three quotes that we received. However, their quality and professionalism seemed exceptional, so we went with them. Then had a showroom where you could see and, importantly, hear the units in action. They also offer information seminars which are super helpful. We attended one and visited their showroom. The wait for installation wasn't bad, about 4 weeks. This was much quicker than the other companies we contacted. (This was in May/June, so I imagine a high demand time.) Installation was done by Cesar and Terry. Both were very professional. Installation was quite seamless and they definitely know what they are doing. They were very clean and careful with everything. We've had the units running for about 2 weeks now. They works great and are amazingly powerful in cooling. Much more than enough for what we need (this was 3 units for 1000SF home). The other great thing about NETR is that they offer maintenance services at what seem to me to be very reasonable prices. Given the importance of this, it is great to have them do this. Overall, have been very happy with my experience with them. Some have complained about the price of NETR on here. However, after having gone through all of this, I have learned, it is a complicated and intricate process and there are lots of ways to cut corners. I personally am happy to not pay the absolute rock bottom lowest price if the quality is good. Less headaches in the long-run. read more

I got an estimate from N.E.T.R. for a new ductless air conditioner system, nice sales guy however I don't like being taken advantage of or mislead. I was quoted $12,400 for a 3 room unit, almost $9000 in labor alone! I was also told these units alone cost $3000 each "sometime more" quoted from the sales rep.!?! Absolute BS and highway robbery to consumers. I highly suggest you do your homework before doing business with any company, N.E.T.R. does have great feedback but taking advantage of you for it is not "cool" anytime of the year. Within the video a very reasonable $400.00 profit is noted and the equipment would be less rated than what I was quoted giving them even more profit on the back end. It's a simple #'s & BS game, they can give you the dog and pony show about being a Mitsubishi Diamond Elite Contractor and tell you "you get what you pay for." (I guess that gives them the green light to go above and beyond overcharging people???) I don't have a problem with paying a premium for excellent service, but they took it to another level of greed. Only in MA! At the end of the day it's your hard earned money, make sure you do what's best for you. It's to bad these guys were greedy, I would have purchased a system from you. ----- Got to love the dog and pony show response below by the owner, they can feed you any BS to justify in their mind over charging you. Complexity? Seriously... This job could be done in 1 1/2 days with 2 people if they knew what they were doing, if it's taking you 3 people for 3 days to do a small job like this then you need to see where the times going. For example now he's adding in one more person and 1 more day to the job and exploding the "company cost" to make you feel like he's doing you a favor. $2250 for material, are you gold plating it? $750 to run one cable 30'? Unreal... I guess the sales person has no idea how to do his job now after reading this? I guess consumers can expect games and being mislead as part of the FREE estimate? We must all be stupid or think you're the only person running a business? I'm surprised to be writing a review of an AC repair company -- I normally review restaurants -- but I had a really good experience and wanted to communicate that. I have a Daikin split system with 1 main outdoor unit and 4 indoor concealed ceiling units that are in tight spaces with challenging access. I maintained the system myself for about 5 years, until I started having a problem with one of the condensate pumps that I couldn't fix. That's when I called NETR. NETR was not the company that installed the system, but they came up first when I searched for Daikin in Boston, and I saw that they had a few other good positive Yelp reviews, so I figured I'd call them. I worked with Kris (dispatcher) and Bobby (tech) at NETR, both of whom were extremely competent, professional, and polite throughout the whole process (and I'm pretty particular but tried to be not too much of a pain in the ass with them). Kris was totally transparent in his communications and pricing information, and he gave me a choice of a flat fee vs. time & materials. When Bobby came out, he efficiently diagnosed the problem, replaced the bad pump, and performed general maintenance on the system (this took 2 visits because they had to order a new pump in between visits). I watched Bobby throughout the process, and he was extraordinarily thorough. He was also really careful -- no tool belt scratching paint on the walls, no heavy crescent wrenches falling on wood floors, etc. The price was quite fair. I might've been able to get the job done for a little less money elsewhere, but "you get what you pay for," and NETR was fantastic. I wanted someone who was already intimately familiar with these systems -- someone who wouldn't have to figure out much on-site and could just do the job -- and that's exactly what I got. I had a past experience where I had a tech (not from NETR) unfamiliar with the Daikin system, and he had to spend a lot of time on the phone with Daikin, etc., which increased my cost significantly. That wasn't the case with NETR, because Bobby totally knew what he was doing. I would recommend NETR without reservation. Bobby and Kris were fantastic. read more

Spent 20k on heating/ac split vents less than 5 years ago that came with a 10 year warranty. 1) The units never worked great and 2) the pipes they installed have been leaking freon and water causing immeasurable damage to my home. When their technician responded to my home he admitted that the piping THEY installed was faulty and obsolete but the company advised me to use my home insurance to pay to repair the problem they caused! My 10 year warranty states it covers all equipment. Now I'm in a situation where I have to sue them to get them to fix the problem they caused. RUN, DON'T WALK FROM THIS COMPANY!! read more

we had a ductless AC unit installed... it took them a few weeks to schedule an installation (it was August so you figure they're busy) but they got it done in one day and it works great. They had to patch up a small hole in the wall after there was a bit of difficulty setting up the wiring and I had to wait a few weeks to get it done but that's all set now. It wasn't cheap--it might have been a few more bucks than other companies but the financing helps and I'm willing to pay a bit more for quality. So, yes, recommended. read more

NETR did a great job from start to finish. Jimmy took the time to convince us about the product and the company. The install crew - Jerry, Adam, Jeff, TIm and Matt C - were as professional as Jimmy promised. The crew was here early, was polite and pleasant to deal with. They worked smoothly with us as we made some slight tweaks to one of the installation positions and made sure we knew just how everything worked before they departed. Their teamwork was top notch, they protected our floors and left the work site tidy. We would highly recommend this company. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I used this company to install mini splits in 2018. I paid over $20k for system/install. There were some issues with one unit since the get go. Three years later had service come out to tell me the line sets used are faulty, need to be completely replaced (break down of the sets caused micro holes in tubing, leaking everywhere/mold etc). They gave me a quote for $10k. My warranty was 12 years all parts indoor and outdoor and 1 year for labor. They told me to go through my home owners (which they denied). They are telling me bc the linesets are not Mitsubishi they won't cover cost. NETR then said, ok we will make a deal with you and pay half but I need to commit before end of year bc that deal will expire. I understand they got bad equipment but why is that my problem? I signed a contract with a 12 year warranty and they are not holding their end of deal. I would NOT recommend using this company. read more

Consultation to purchase: We had a very smooth experience - just a couple of weeks between getting our free consultation (Chip was very clear and easy to understand - he explained everything really well.) to having the units installed and functioning. Installation: Brian B. & Ivan were terrific. They were prompt and efficient, and they let us know what to expect each day. They were courteous and communicated really well. They worked pretty quietly, were very considerate, and were extra careful to keep noise and dust/mess to a minimum. They actually may have left the place cleaner than they found it! I had an air conditioning/heat system installed more than a year ago.....and then forgot about maintenance until today. James came out and did a fine, professional job of checking out the system and cleaning the system. More he importantly educated me about the importance of maintenance and all the trouble the system could get into without proper maintenance. He showed me the dirty filter so everything he said made sense. I have really liked having the heating/cooling system and feel committed to keeping it going. I usually do not sign up for maintenance contracts but decided to take the plunge and sign up for yearly maintenance. There was no pressure to do so......it seemed to me the reasonable thing to do in this instance, especially since now I know the technicians know what they are doing. read more
